Popular Post DetectiveCJ
(Credit to Soultaker655 for letting me do this thread. ) Many people are raving about the release of Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 2.8, but before it was absorbed by Square and had its name tacked onto the new merger RPG juggernaut, Enix Inc. was the one who put RPGs on the video game map long ago with a little ditty called Dragon Quest(which was renamed Dragon Warrior in the US because of copyright issues with a certain Pen-and-Paper company that went under in time for the eight game in the franchise to be released with the proper name that it should have ) which is the Japan's cult favorite. In fact, the governments over there were forced to pass laws forbading retailers to release the games on weekdays for fear of people quitting work and school to swarm the stores! (I do not own these screens, I copied them from a Google Image Search.) Over the 20 years of its life, Dragon Quest has released ten games in the main series with many memorable characters, and Square-Enix has shown off the eleventh game releasing on 3DS and PS4 in 2017. But this is NOT about those games. You may have head about Dragon Quest VII being remade for the 3DS and Dragon Quest VIII coming out for the 3DS later this year. Well, in truth, those games were released to us on the Playstation and Playstation-2 respectively. (If you have read my threads on PS2 classics, the people who made Rogue Galaxy and Dark Cloud, LEVEL-5, were responsible for co-creating Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, which explains the graphic quality.) However, Square-Enix has made peace with Nintendo and started releasing the Dragon Quest series on the Nintendo handheld, remaking the older games for the DS and 3DS so US players can meet characters from Dragon Quest V and Dragon Quest VI which never came out in original form in the US. (Before then, some people made rom hacks that translated everything in the Japanese ROMs of those games.) After striking an unholy alliance with Koei, they got a Dragon Quest game on the PS4... and yes, since they made that alliance with Koei, who you might recognize for their infamous Dynasty Warriors series, you can guess what sort of game this is. Dragon Quest joined Legend of Zelda(aka Hyrule Warriors) in having a spin-off with the Dynasty Warriors combat system of slaughtering millions of enemies with rapid-pace action combat! Not that that's a bad thing. As you slash and hack through every critter in the Dragon Quest mythoes from lowly blue slimes all the way up to Zoma himself(yep, you have to defeat the final boss of Dragon Quest/Warrior III, which was an optional DLC boss in the Japanese version), you'll ally with various returning faces in the Dragon Quest franchise from Princess(ahem, Tsarvena) Alena to the two potential wives of the main in Dragon Quest V to Terry, the badass swordsman of Dragon Quest VI... even Psaro himself. Yep, you recruit the final villain of Dragon Quest IV, and boy howdy will he force you to earn his trust! The trophy list is a VERY grindy list, though, so only the brave and patient should apply. On the bright side, the game actually has an NPC who will reward you with mini medals(those required collectible in any Dragon Quest game) to exchange for all sorts of rewards up to the best shields in the game! Japan has already released a sequel to this popular game and may localize it to English IF this game sells exceptionally well, so I want to encourage anyone who reads this and doesn't have the game to buy it and try it so that we can convince Square-Enix that YES, we do want Dragon Quest Heroes II: The Twin Kings and the Ancient Prophecy with its class system(the main characters of that game can have all sorts of classes like in several of the Dragon Quest games) and its own roster of familiar faces(Alena, Kiryl, Terry, Jessica and Maya return, but we get other characters like Maribel and Ruff/Gabo from Dragon Quest VII, Angelo from Dragon Quest VIII, and Carver from Dragon Quest VI) that badly! Our Mandatory Objective: To get the Platinum Trophy for Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and The Blight Below, before Dragon Quest Heroes II is released(or we're told it won't come out for us, which I hope is not the case). Who Can Join: Anyone who has the game and hasn't gotten the platinum trophy yet. Also, I will put in a waiting list for those who want to get the game. (It's $50-60 at Gamestop and I believe there is a PS Vita version, though the PS4 is the one which is the easiest to handle.) If you have the platinum already, don't despair, you can come in and mentor those who need help. Is There a Deadline to Join? Don't worry too much, we still haven't heard anything about Dragon Quest Heroes II coming out, but if it is coming out in the US, then you are free to join until that game comes out - after all, once Dragon Quest Heroes II comes out, there'll be less of an interest to platinum this game and the thread would become pretty stagnant if I kept letting people join. This thread, unlike my Kingdom Hearts thread, will not have any reward for getting the platinum except a pat on the back, so you shouldn't feel pressured to join this event unless you want moral support or really love Dragon Quest. Is This The Speed Run Page? No, this is not the Speed Run page. Go through this game at your own pace and enjoy the Dragon Quest culture, don't give yourself a stroke trying to rush through the game. As I said, some parts take a VERY long time to complete and rushing through it is only going to hurt you in the long run. Oh Great Almighty, I Can't Finish This In Time! Don't worry, as I said before, we don't know whether or not DQH2 will come out in the US. But even if it does, I won't crucify you if you fail to get the platinum before DQH2 comes out. I've got a lot on my own plate(just bought Final Fantasy XIII-2 to try to play it). Go at your own pace, okay? Some of these quests are very difficult to go through at low levels so you may need to hunt Liquid Metal Slimes to get some of your party members up to snuff. There's this thing called Platinum Rain... I am fully aware of and participating in Dragon-Archon's Platinum Rain Day as of the creation of this post, and this game is one of the games on the list, so if you have this game on your list for Platinum Rain Day, then I will add you to the Hall of Fame even if you are holding off on the platinum until 2017 for the event. viech54
I don't have the game. This would be my first Dragon Quest, would you say it's a good idea to start with this (story-wise)? Do I need to know anything about previous Dragon Quests? No need to add me yet, without knowing anything about it or at least watching a trailer, I can't make up my mind. And the price over at Gamestop does concern me. I can get it in my country for 20 bucks on Amazon. Also, way to go butchering the game's subtitle in German. As expected of the localization team. Roughly translated to English, it says Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree and the Tyrant from the Deep. No idea if the German subitle or the English one is closer to the Japanese one. Zangril
I'll go ahead and sign up for this. I'll be holding off on the plat since I'm using it in Project Platinum. I still need these: Variety Clubber Awarded for defeating every single species of monster. Master at Arms Awarded for obtaining each and every weapon and orb. Avid Accessoriser Awarded for obtaining every variety of accessory. Restless Quester Awarded for completing every quest. Veteranarian Awarded for defeating every variety of veteran monster. Accessory to Alchemy Awarded for creating a total of 100 accessories by alchemy. Puffington Host Awarded for treating every character to a Puff-Puff. Map Maniac Awarded for completing a total of 50 challenges in the grottoes marked on mysterious maps.

DetectiveCJ
Add me to the Waiting List. Wow, the guy who gave me a blessing for this thread wanting to play this game? J/K, I'm not mean. Welcome to the thread! I don't have the game. This would be my first Dragon Quest, would you say it's a good idea to start with this (story-wise)? Do I need to know anything about previous Dragon Quests? No need to add me yet, without knowing anything about it or at least watching a trailer, I can't make up my mind. Roughly translated to English, it says Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree and the Tyrant from the Deep. No idea if the German subitle or the English one is closer to the Japanese one. I added you to the waiting list, welcome to the thread! IMHO, the German subtitle is similar to our subtitle(The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below, never use the subtitle because it's LOOOONG) so I wouldn't say it was butchering, but then again, what do I know? And if you can buy a used copy on Amazon for $20, go for it! Maybe I should see if Amazon can get me a copy of Dragon Quest Builders for PS4 for that price. Puffington Host Awarded for treating every character to a Puff-Puff. Map Maniac Awarded for completing a total of 50 challenges in the grottoes marked on mysterious maps. Wow, those are almost all the trophies I need to get, add in for me the one for finishing the story. Welcome to the thread, you're added! You can add me to this list, I still need a 11 trophies to plat this game and this might get me to do it again Sure thing! Welcome to the thread! CediFonei
OHHHHHHHHHHH BOY! I've not played this game in so long, but I love it as both an original action RPG and a homage to my personal favorite JRPG series. Sign me up! I've finished the story a while ago, but I still have a lot of postgame to catch up with. Edited October 9, 2016 by CediFonei

I apologize, I'll edit the guides to include the PSN Profiles trophy guide. The Playstationtrophies.org one is horribly out of date, it doesn't cover the English version. Oh, and welcome to the thread, you're in. (Don't worry if you don't see a change right away - I updated the thread as soon as I posted this, it takes a while to copy and paste all of your profile URLs.) Thanks. It's not even used, I can buy a new copy on Amazon for 20 €. Builders' release date is next week (US release: October 11th, EU: October 14th), you'll have to wait a bit for a price drop. Anyway, what about the story? Do I need to know anything about previous Dragon Quests? Well, I changed my mind about DQ Builders, I'll go tomorrow and pick up the PS4 copy even if it's outrageous - I have enough cash on hand for it and I love the idea of a Dragon Quest Minecraft clone, also the trophy list looks easy enough. You don't need to know anything about previous Dragon Quests; Bianca and Nera mention their wedding sub-plot in their game(Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride - the sub-title is for the DS remake), but it's not that important to the main plot, and you'll get the backstories of each character if you do the side-quest lines for each of them which pop up at the final story part of the game. However, I urge you to at least watch a Let's Play of the DS Remakes if you want to know about these cameo characters like Alena/Kiryl, Bianca/Nera, Terry, and Jessica/Yangus. You can find people playing the games on Youtube for free.

Fields Of Goold - Showdown - Slimy Soldiers. It's easier to farm mini medals here too. Have Bianca with your strongest bow, Meteorite Bracer, Allure Ring, and Ace of Spoils. I was getting anywhere from 13-20+ medals every 3-5 minutes (how long it took me to beat that challenge), I would very rarely get below 10 in a run. I know you are going to hate me, but I got two more Puff-Puffs; Alena's and Bianca's. Did you use Kiryl in your party all the time? It seems that the more maps you do with a character in your party, the better the chances, although I still haven't gotten the opposite lead's Puff-Puff yet. (I am playing as Aurora, the girl, so I am talking about Lucien, the guy.) Also, no need for you to give advice on Grottos. After 14 revisits from the Fire Place, I got the Map Maniac trophy. After that, I got the Accessory to Alchemy trophy, then the one for collecting 200 mini medals and I did a quest to get the Really Healy trophy and got the 100% alchemy ingredients trophy. Then I finished the main story for Daylight Savior, but I completed Maya's storyline to get the magnetic necklace and used it in the Hero Rank Arba Town Battlefield to coax out four King Metal Slimes and managed to crit the last one to get King Klanger. So now my % is 68%. I also did a couple of quests - the first of Terry's story and a few quests for Bianca/Nera's story(the second quest is really easy, you just need to own three Fresh Waters). I'm going to take a break now; got a couple of games that I want to try out for a while. But I'll be back to get Psaro(he WILL join me) and some more trophies.
