Final Fantasy‘s first original TV drama series featuring Final Fantasy XIV is heading to Netflix around the world. The online streaming service is set to bring the show to international viewers starting this Fall.

According to an update on the official website, “Final Fantasy XIV: Daddy of Light” will air in Japan on MBS and TBS starting April 16. The show will also be available on Netflix in Japan starting April 20.

This drama coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Final Fantasy mainline series and is inspired by the true story of a father and son’s relationship that gradually changes due to their encounters in Final Fantasy XIV. The series will feature the real game showing what it’s like to participate in the online game world and stars Japanese actors Yudai Chiba and Ren Oosugi playing the part of the main characters.

Square Enix has provided a new promotional video, which we’ve linked below.

Japan's unique Final Fantasy XIV-based drama is making its way to the rest of the world thanks to Netflix. Daddy of Light isn't really an adaptation of the hit MMO -- it's a live-action show that focuses on a father and son who play the game together.

"The series will feature the real game showing what it’s like to participate in the online game world..." So in a sense, we will be watching actors not twitch users play FF14 but with some story outside.

anyone also not liking the whole "daddy of light" title? Feels, wrong.

Not really, it's actually about father and son play the game together, that's why they made a name like that.

I'm sorry, but that title drains all the interest I could have in this thing.

"Daddy of Light?" Seriously?

That because it's actually about the father and son that plays the game together, there's nothing wrong with that.
