Funny, I'm the reverse. I've played through the PS3 version and have wondered if there is a point (other than trophies) to picking up the Vita versions. Popular Post Kevvik
Game #10: Mary Skelter: Nightmares Day 3/Initial Impressions Time played : 3-4 hrs This is a dungeon crawling RPG. You play as Jack, a prisoner in Jail, a supernatural living prison which arose and consumed a city. You are there with your childhood friend, Alice. All sorts of things happen here, torture and other fun things like licking blood off the walls. Jail is staffed by the Marchen, an alien/demonic race of creatures. One day, Red Riding Hood shows up to bust Alice out of her cell and you sort of get dragged along. You fight your way to a safe place within Jail where people who dream of escaping have made their base. Did I say you fight? No you don't. In fact you seem to be pretty useless at first. Alice, however, is a Blood Maiden (who knew) who can fight the Marchen like Red and other girls you meet later. This is not without consequence though as if they fight too long they can go into Blood Skelter mode where they attack everything, friend or foe. There is no cure for this state and girls stay in it until they die. Until you, that is. If you bleed on a girl in Blood Skelter, they get cured which is a good thing for your friend Alice when she loses it. Make sense? This is also from Idea Factory/Compile Heart so it doesn't really have to. It just adds up to one guy hanging out with a bunch of supernaturally powered girls who do the fighting for him. Avoiding spoilers, the storyline so far isn't too painful and I'm still exploring depth of combat/skill use. Otherwise it's a fairly straightforward dungeon crawler. I haven't really advanced far enough to give it more than a cursory opinion so far but it's good at the basics. Popular Post Kevvik
End Event Summary Ok, it's time to wrap it up. From first to worst, let's revisit this month's selections... The Bard's Tale - 8/10 - a snarky, sarcastic and utterly charming action RPG that shows personality can make something greater than the sum of its generic parts Cat Quest - 7.5/10 - cute little action RPG that's just the right length not to overstay it's welcome Song of the Deep - 6.5/10 - underwater Metroidvania with smooth controls and maybe a bit of story thrown in Moon Hunters - 6/10 - action RPG with quick short playthroughs to offset the many you'll need to do for the plat, still fun though Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken - 6/10 - side scrolling 2D action with chickens, guns and fun Mary Skelter: Nightmares - 5/10 - fairly standard dungeon crawler fare from IF/CH that will take more time from me to really flesh out my thoughts on it Omega Quintet - 5/10 - more IF/CH fun with idol wannabes instead of prison occupants and put the dungeon outside instead of in Outcast: Second Contact - 4/10 - 3rd person action/adventure reboot of a 20 yr old game that didn't age well. Needs a rebuild, not a reboot. Inner Space - 3.5/10 - an exploration game that needs to give you a reason to want to keep exploring Monster Monpiece - 2/10 - a germ of a good card battling game is drowned in juvenile fan service 3 out of 9 achieved 220/352 trophies earned -0.91% completion rate for the event A weaker selection of games for me than usual but now it's time to start cleaning up. Thanks to everyone who participated and spent valuable gaming time re iewing for us. Also, thanks to our gracious host @voodoo_eyes for keeping this event going. ??? Keep on gaming, folks! From what I've read (and glancing at the trophies) there are only six possible relationships in the PS3 version? Compare that to twelve in the Vita versions. Should be quite a bit of new stuff to read.
Popular Post PerryToxteth
KYC 9 Game No. 10 Playing Time: 3 hours Trophies Earned: 14/30 (26% E ranking) Final Thoughts: Artifex Mundi games always have storylines that teeter between mystical and corny. But this game's story is bat-shit crazy. A hit of LSD might be the only way it'll make complete sense. I tend to play these games for laid back gaming sessions, a wind down before bedtime. True, they are puzzle games, but it doesn't take much brain power to figure it out. If you can't solve the puzzle within a couple minutes, you probably misread the instructions. Anyways, for the story. You obtain a talisman, which puts a tattoo on your arm that occasionally interacts with your environment. You meet a companion named Darius, who seems to have anger management issues. The antagonist is a Grand Vizier who shockingly, wants to obtain absolute power (pretty sure every Artifex Mundi game has a character like that). My journey so far has included coming across a land with mystical birds named Simurghs who are in a everlasting slumber. In this game, puzzles include making potions, which you do to wake them up. Then a teenage, high school dropout genie meets up with us and opens a portal into a world in the clouds. I'm still up in Cloud City now, no Lando to help me out though. I'm not really sure where the story is leading, but I assume I will have a grand battle with the Vizier at some point. Puzzle-wise, I've played enough Artifex Mundi games to see how they have evolved over their earlier games. A bit more complex and varied, but again, nothing remotely difficult. The hidden object puzzles that were so heavy in the early games, seem to have taken a backseat. What might be the most difficult part of the game is finding the 30 collectibles. They are small pictures of a palace and are really well-blended into the surroundings. Of course, you can just Zamboni over your TV screen with your prompt and it will state "Pick" if you run across a collectible, which makes it easier. But I suspect, I've missed a few which will require a half playthrough (Collectibles are cumulative in Mundi games!). The game is pretty much what I expected. There's more engaging Artifex Mundi games out there though. Also, don't ever buy them at full price. Every couple of months, they are included in PSN store sales. I'll give it a . - Somehow, I fit in 10 games this go-around, despite the sky falling (or in my house's case, the ceiling). Sad I had to improvise with half the games, but my miniature TV wouldn't do graphical justice to a big AAA game like Uncharted 4. I will write a wrap-up tomorrow.
Popular Post GraniteSnake
Guess I'll wrap this up with yet another short review. Game 5 Review: Mafia III Game rating: 8/10 Time played: ~2 hours Trophies earned: 1/86 Another game that I've spent too little time on, but just enough in order to further lower my completion rate. My first time trying out a Mafia game, and it's been relatively enjoyable so far. I'm enjoying the way the story is being told, with snippets from the future mixed in with what's occurred in past. It's led to a pretty engaging introduction to the game so far. I'm not entirely sure if the people in this game are recurring characters throughout the series, but I'm guessing it doesn't matter too much. The story has been easy enough to follow so far, with the protagonists motives being pretty clear. As regards game play, driving will take a bit of getting used to as the camera seems a little off when driving. Hand to hand combat is pretty basic, as too is the weapon combat. There has already been a plentiful selection of different weapons and throwable items, and I look forward to seeing what else comes into play. Stealth plays a part in this game as well, with silent take-downs and the likes. I haven't been introduced to much of the games mechanics, but that'll come with time. From the few hours I've played, I've high hopes for this game. As long as it doesn't end up being too repetitive or a drive-fest, I can see myself enjoying my time with the game! KYC Closing Stats Games played: 181 (+23) Games completed: 134 (+2) Trophies earned: 5782 (+77) [38/389 of the games I've reviewed this month] Trophies unearned: 885 (+364) [1,751 if I include all of the games on my profile sitting at 0%] Completion: 88.96% (-3.63%) Well, that was a pretty poor month of gaming overall. This event has opened my eyes a little though... and I've decided I'm no longer going to pick up anything from the sales for the foreseeable future. My backlog is ever expanding, as I plan to make the most of my PS Now subscription, and needless to say I've plenty of games to keep me occupied. I do plan on going back to the 5 games I started at some point, I'm just not sure when. It's been fun, I'm just disappointed it came at a time where I haven't felt like gaming much. Regardless, I've enjoyed reading everybody's reviews and may be back for the next installment!
voodoo_eyes
Already started the clean up process and platted Blue Reflection. Nothing changed in regards to my opinion about it. Subpar story, lack of variety and enjyable combat is all it has to offer. Not going to go right into Ni No Kuni II after all, as there's a lot of cleaning up to be done in that game. I'll probably see how much I can stomach of Akiba's Trip and GTA San Andreas and alternate those with Riddled Corpses EX. With the last few reviews trickling in, I'll go ahead and thank all the participants. AS per usual, progress update is welcome and the next event will be announced here as well when it draws closer.

Popular Post dizzyshadow
Game 10: Astro Bot Rescue Mission Didn't get a ton of time on this game as i was too busy sorting out things for my daughters birthday party, but what little i did play really impressed me. Astro Bot is a VR platform game, where you have to help find and free little robots, you do this by controlling a an astrobot and working you way through the level, its a 3d platforming game and given that it borrows a lot from the Mario mechanics, in fact if i didn't know better it wouldn't have surprised me if Nintendo had made this game, The actual platforming is fairly basic (although this may get tougher as i progress through the game) the bots are quite well hidden and the game makes good use of the VR aspect by requiring you to really search around and look high and low to find all those bots. Its up there with Moss as one of the best VR games around in my opinion. I need to play more to be certain but this could be the best game I played during the event of the event Playtime: 2 hours Trophies: 6/37 Rating : Completion 56.28% (-0.49%)
Popular Post dizzyshadow
Final Summary so time for me to summarise the event, quite a unusual one for me 3 games completed, 4 likely won't touch again, and another 3 that i will definitely want to finish off, but a quick check recap on the game in order: 1) Astro Bot Rescue Mission : Brilliant platforming game, and one of the best VR titles around 2) Subnautica - Excellent underwater survival game set on an alien world. 3) Batman : the enemy within - another solid story outing from the Telltale world 4) Chroma Squad : fun SRPG based on a power rangers style TV show, let down by its glitched trophies 5) No Heroes Allowed VR! - surprisingly fun VR RTS just too short 6) 11-11 memories retold - mediocre Story game about WW1 7) Unravel - wool themed platform game, good but not great 8) Snake Pass - interesting platform game where you have to think like a snake, but just too frustrating for me. 9) Bridge Constructor Portal - trademark portal humour can't overcome disappointing core gameplay. 10) Little Dragon cafe - cute little game but let down by poor pacing and the lack of interesting things to do thanks to everyone else who participated it really is great to read all the reviews of games, and a special thanks to @voodoo_eyes for hosting the event. See you all in July.
Popular Post PerryToxteth
KYC 9 Wrap-Up Well, another one in the books! I'm pretty sure I've swapped out at least one game in every KYC event, but a snowy, rainy, ice dam-filled March forced me to improvise my list, and I ended with four substitute titles. Sadly, no new AAA games for me for the foreseeable future. Thanks again to @voodoo_eyes for running the event, as well as to all the veteran participants and newcomers. Always fun to see the diverse set of games people play. Here's a quick review: Level - Batman (Telltales). Just one episode in, but a strong start for the Caped Crusader. - Word Search by POWGI. Not everyone's cup of tea, but POWGI produced a well-functioning game at a very affordable price point. You might not do any word searches for awhile after platting this. 300 puzzles! Level - Maize. I will likely get back to this quick soon to finish the story. The second chapter is much more engaging than the first. - Persian Nights: Sands of Wonder. I generally like Artifex Mundi games, but this is one of their lesser titles. And a shame too, because I think it's their newest game. - MXGP3. Motorcycle racing game that doesn't offer much in driving diversity. It's pretty much the same track race after race. - Bridge Constructor. Physics game that's faulty because it's not realistic. YouTubers are beating this game by building what looks the the Temple of Doom swinging bridge to complete levels. Had a fun start though. Level - The Golf Club 2019. Highly advertised as having the PGA license, yet having almost no content to show for it. Mechanics are shaky in putting and pales in comparison to golf games on the PS3 from five years ago. Incomplete - Dishonored. I just didn't get far enough into this game to give it a fair grade. I didn't care much for the stealth aspect of it at first, but as I unlocked more goodies, it got much more enticing. Unfortunately because it's on my PS3, I won't get back to it for months to come. And my awards for this KYC go to: Perry's Platinum Award - 1979 Revolution: Black Friday. Yeah, I'm a sucker for historical games. But this story-driven game does it really well and is able to convey the historical era the game is taking place in. The developers also do an incredible job of telling an objective story and not taking sides in what is today, one of the most contentious places in world relations. There better be a sequel! ? Turd Award ? - Burly Men at Sea. Unless there is a grandiose ending I just haven't got to yet, this is just Trophy Whore bait. A little bit more content could've made this into a better game because the foundation is actually there for something decent. Final Stats: Pre-KYC 9 statistics in ( ) Games Played/ Completed: 131/90 (121/90) Trophies Earned: 4270 (4141) Unearned Trophies: 719 (484) Completion %: 84.75% (89.62) Percentage Drop: -4.87% In 8 KYC events, I have topped the 100 trophies earned mark six times. That said, I'm pretty sure this has to be the highest my unearned trophy number has ever been. A nearly five percent drop in the completion hurts my quest for the vaunted 90% mark. See y'all in July - hopefully I will have a ceiling by then! ? Edited April 2, 2019 by PerryToxteth
voodoo_eyes
@PerryToxteth The Artifex Mundi games have generally dropped in quality ever since they increased their prices by 100%. Funnily enough, the steam version is still at it's original price 7,99. It's also not really new, as it's original release was mid 2017. Personally I only buy their games now, if they drop to the 4,99 mark or lower, just for pulling the dick move of a retroactive price hike.
Popular Post Arctic Cress
Game #5 - Fill-a-Pix: Phil's Epic Adventure One last review for the road. Basically in this game, you are uncovering pictures by coloring in squares on a grid black. Several squares on the board have a number, which tells you how many adjacent squares plus itself should be covered in. So a 9 would have all the squares around it and itself colored black, while a 0 would have none of them colored in. Basically, that's how to start almost all of the puzzles - fill in the 9s and 0s, plus any 6s on the side or 4s in the corner (as they have less squares around them), then use those as a building block to fill in the rest of the puzzle. I recently completed this on the Vita, but i find the PS4 version is a lot better in many aspects simply because of the size of the puzzle they use. The Vita version feels cramped and it's hard to really find the next move to make because you can't see as much of the board at a time. The PS4 simply gives the board a lot more room and you can easily see moves to make on the board. What's more, remote playing the game changes nothing and is still easily read on the Vita so I'm not sure why this design was even implemented in the first place . Which might make it harder to achieve the hint trophy in the end, so I'll probably just have to spam that button in some puzzles just to unlock it. Anyway, besides that, the game is still fun, and I'll be chipping away at its remaining trophies over the next few months. Roundup: Yakuza 0 - 14/55 (20% - D) Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal - 31/51 (55% - C) Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds - 2/36 (3% - E) Plague Inc: Evolved - 3/55 (4% - E) Fill-a-Pix: Phil's Epic Adventure - 17/30 (52% - C) 69.87% completion at start 69.52% completion at finish - 0.35% difference You'll notice that Yakuza 0 and Senran Kagura both unlocked a ton of trophies after their respective reviews - both were extremely helpful in the TrueTrophies event and were both integral at getting my chain of 54 over there. Because of that event though my completion didn't go down as much as I would have planned for - but that's ok, since I'm still committed to hit at least 75% completion by the end of the year. Thankfully, none of the five games this time around are really bad games either - I enjoyed my time with each and I am looking forward to finishing each one of them up. Even Senran Kagura - my original few hours wasn't exactly the best start, but some of the later missions made it more enjoyable. Compare this with KYC 8 where I played Shining Resonance Refrain, KYC 6 where I played New Little King's Story (and Exist Archive), or KYC 5 where I played Touhou Genso Wanderer. None of these were touched after the initial few hours. As for the three games I didn't start during this event, I'm not sure whether I will start them sometimes over the following months, or save them for KYC 10 down the road. I'll figure something out eventually, though! See you next topic, and thanks @voodoo_eyes for the event.
Edunstar84
Platted Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana. The first play through was great, and I enjoyed it. But the plat experience was frustrating! I wouldn't recommend the Vita version. I heard the PS4's nightmare run is scaled better.
Popular Post Kevvik
Finished the platinum on Mary Skelter and enjoyed it quite a bit. The story was better than expected although a lot was fairly predictable. The fan service was minimal for the most part but it had the usual juvenile situations as you increased your heart factor (relationship) with each of the girls. The grind post-game wasn't too bad as I tend to grind a bit along the way. Overall final score - 6.5/10
voodoo_eyes
I tried to go back to both Akiba's Trip and GTA San Andreas. Couldn't get into either one though. While Akiba's Trip was passable enough to play through it once, doing it a few more times is not something I care for as the gameplay loop is just boring. GTA San Andreas was worse, as it just plays poorly in general. Controls are jank, driving is jank and it looks horrendous. Some games really don't age well and this is one those games. I'll probably try to pick up some 3rd party PS3 controller soon, so I can go back to a few games from that system without having the hassle of pressing the thumbsticks not working.
Popular Post voodoo_eyes
So... I reached my limit with another game from the event. This time it-s Saw 2. I almost managed to finish the story, being in the last chapter. Just getting there has been a rather painful experience. The bit where I drew the line is a carousel "puzzle". Said carousel moves clockwise, while you have to move counter clockwise avoiding red lights shining down from the top. Zou can only proceed through the outer border of the carousel as the rest is fenced off. Incidentally the red lights are only in the area where you need to go through. THe problem is that there is often only a very small tim-frame between two red lights and the hit detection is often very dodgy. Worse is that halfway through some lights stop having the redish glow and just blend in with the brownish floor. Went at it for 20 minutes and called it a day after reading that that section needs to be completed twice (once for each ending). Well, fuck that. Apart from that it generally gets worse as you go in general. While at the start it is still somewhat passable, it soon begins to regurgitate the same puzzles and enemy encounters over and over again. Especially the enemy encounters are just vomit-inducingly awful. This game drops down to a . Not going to go back to the remaining games just yet. I'll probably be trying one of the games reviewed during this event though, which is 1979 Revolution Black Friday (on sale in EU as a bundle with 3 other indie games for a tenner).
Popular Post DamagingRob
Nearly made a full completion recovery after that Bulletstorm Plat. Aside from one particular section on Very Hard, I didn't have much trouble with the Story mode. Then I moved on to Anarchy and Echo modes, and learned why this Platinum is Ultra Rare... Some really annoying trophies in there that were originally DLC, but they just shoved them into the Plat requirements on the PS4. Glad to be done with it. Also wrapped up Deus Ex. Cleanup and DLC may have actually been more enjoyable than my first playthrough. The story DLCs were fairly short, only taking 2-3 hours each. And there was nothing really difficult in them. Breach mode was a bit longer, taking 7-8 hours. That might have sucked, had it not been for the infinite energy glitch. And a speedrun on the highest difficulty was a lot faster than I could have imagined. Finished Hakuoki, as well. Not sure when I'll get to the second half, as it got a bit tiring reading through so many routes.. Other than that, I've only been back to FighterZ. Since I bought a turbo controller, the Zeni grind won't be an issue. Though I have to stop playing on my PS4, if I'm going to actually use it. Until I get the BP trophy, though, it's not like I'm in a real hurry.
Popular Post Kevvik
One more down. Finished the platinum on InnerSpace. I really wished I liked this game more. The controls were well tuned, the game looks good, potential for some interesting lore but unlike Abzu where I actually wanted to explore, I just wanted to finish this and clear it off my drive. I think that if the game had had an in-game map, I might have thought completely differently about it. I know that exploration is the point of the game but even if the map showed where you had been and left the rest blank, I could have done with that. Your character is called "The Cartographer"! You know, people who make maps? If I'm not making a map, give me a different bloody name! Anyway, no change in my score for this one. Maybe others will like it more than I did... Final score: 3.5/10 Off to run around with my Verse Maidens in Omega Quintet...
Popular Post Arctic Cress
I completed Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal a few days ago. One thing I'm surprised about is there are less free missions overall compared to the 3DS game, which is a very strange design choice. Also, the endgame missions have been changed a bit, but they're also easier as well. Burst is still my favorite Senran Kagura game, and the remake is a good one but it's not quite at that level. I did recover my completion % of the small drop from this KYC. However, I'm still a way off from recovering from KYC 8, which had my starting % at 70.70%. That will be a difficult one to crack, but I should be able to make it provided that I don't start too many games over the next two months. Thinking of going through Hakuoki next, as a lot of trophies from that fit in to the categories in the May Trophies for Trophy Hunting event.
Popular Post voodoo_eyes
Finished the story in Tales of Xillia yesterday. Was fun for the most part, but the gameplay eventually starts to cycle and makes it feel like the length is being padded. It happens time and time again, that party members leave the party and you have to find them again. Also for some reason I can't help but think that Milla and Velvet (Berseria) use the same character model. Maybe it's because of the art style or it's really just copy-paste. Either way I preferred Velvet as a character. I don't have any intentions going for the plat, as it just boils down to mundane grinding. If these games were just require to complete all quests/events and kill each enemy once or so I'd consider it. Unfortunately it's always a boring laundry list where you have to do all the things, that have no purpose. Still a good game overall, although Berseria is better. Popular Post Arctic Cress
Finished Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds earlier today. I got the normal ending on my first playthrough blind, which doesn't surprise me as getting any route has very little room for error. I wasn't a big fan of the first few routes that were part of the main game versions, but the latter half and the newer routes added in this game were a lot more interesting overall and kept me playing through. You can tell that too just by looking at my trophy log, since I sped through the last few routes a lot faster than the others. I'm not going to start Edo Blossoms at the moment, but that might be a good choice for the next KYC To those that were wondering about the difference between the PS3 and Vita versions, I did some research and while the Vita duology versions have the additional six routes, the PS3 version also has a number of sidestories that are not present in any other English release of Hakuoki, so there still might be a good reason to play through either one if you've played the other. I might take a look through it later on. My completion percentage has jumped all the way up to 70.46% following this completion, giving me only 0.24% to recover the percentage I had from KYC 8. 71.13% was the percentage from way back before KYC 5, and it actually looks within reach if I can keep this up, having 0.57% this month so far with another month to go before KYC 10.
voodoo_eyes
In a couple of weeks I'll be putting up the new thread for the next KYC event. Time to start contemplating on what games to pick .
Popular Post Kevvik
Completed the plat for Omega Quintet. Many hours of my life I won't get back. On another note, was moving along well in Moon Hunters, 5 trophies left, but it appears my system data for the game may have corrupted. I can still play the game, watch the ending sequence but instead of moving to my constellations to let me know if I have any new ones, I get an endless black screen. I can still exit to the main hub on the PS4 but multiple attempts, a delete and reload on the game have left the same result. Hoped it was a game save but I get the same result with a new game. Lot of progress lost which sucks. The game is quick (0.5-1.5hrs for a run) but a ++ number of playthroughs are needed for this game to get the platinum. On yet another note, my completion rate has completely recovered. In fact, it is currently at its highest since I came on the site, almost 84% (83.99% at this writing)! Just in time to totally butcher it in the next event. Edited June 18, 2019 by Kevvik
voodoo_eyes
Not too long now until we begin the 10th edition of Kill Your Completion. I'll probably put up the new thread tomorrow. Still want to try and finish HDN Rebirth 1's story before the new event starts. I've already started putting aside some interesting titles and will hopefully be avoiding games that are complete garbage.
