I don't want to play a game rife with hackers, modders and cheaters. The PS4 version has more than plenty of these types of players. The version that Rockstar Games is still adding content towards.

hold up here...when were gamers able to break sony's encryption and use mods online?...the ps4 version does not have any modders or hackers since the claims of being able to use online menus has not been proven as far as I've seen...only using lan are people able to access them so basically only privately "online"...do you have inside knowledge? ...and what are these cheats you are referring to that are so prevalent and that ruin the experience?...it seems evident to me you that haven't really played the online much...

The PS4 version is much better than the PS3 version, but it definitely doesn't mean there aren't cheaters and assholes who will try anything to get an unfair advantage. As with any hugely popular game.

I only played the PS4 version online a couple of times purely for fun, and I didn't enjoy it that much.

so then you didn't actually encounter any modders, hackers, or cheaters?...why lie?...you could've just said you didn't find it enjoyable in the first place...haha...an odd thing to lie about...

on topic : I've played and liked all of the gta titles up to this point and this goes way back to the original gta (one?) on pc...i even bought a psp just to be able to play chinatown wars...i don't really find them comparable to each other since they were all released at different stages of gaming generations...the other thing is that I've pretty much played all of them upon release and all have stood out as pretty epic for their time...the worst gta for me was vice city but only because I really don't like the era it was set in...the rest were all pretty equally enjoyable and unique in their own way...

there is one awful trophy in the storyline that if you choose one route you can glitch the entire story. i made a video of it years ago and found thousands of people encountered the same glitch. there was one possible fix of going online to make the section accessable again in sp, but it only had a %20 percent chance of working. next thing i knew people were giving me their usernames and pws to try to unglitch their game for them so they could progress.

i tried contacting rockstar multiple ways. first the tech support simply writing them. their automated messaging of problems they read off a screen had absolutely nothing to do with the issue. they said shit like "unplug and replug your router". i actually posted all of the messages in a gta forum years ago. i made a specific video and asked if they could please pass it along to a programmer or someone higher up. they continuously wouldnt. i then got the address to rockstar, printed a map, a very detailed letter of the error, where it was caused etc and mailed this giant envelope of instructions to them. as far as i know they never fixed it

heres a video of the bug, sorry it was recorded on a old camcorder and the battery had no life to it. its the only thing i had back then unlike camera phones of today.

if you have the time for entertainment and want to read their stupid chat transcripts, some i posted here years ago

i did this trophy for both ps3 and ps4, no issues. Also there are 21 stores to rob. not 20.

A lot of complaints here, just about any online game is going to have cheaters, trolls, etc. I think alot of the issues come down to fatigue with open world games. how many can you play before missions and stories become redundant?

Well said. I wish people would get there facts straight before they lay into an obviously fantastic game.

Edit. I might need to take that upvote back off you because ive just realised you said vice city is your worst gta ?

Getting an unfair advantage is different to cheating/hacking. Just look at cod, camping gets you an unfair advantage but its defo not cheating/hacking. Like a said i only experienced 1 hacker in the game and rockstar dealt with it straight away

my guess when he says hackers modders cheaters, might be the fact people were abusing the hell out of the online the first few months it came out. i havent really played it since then. but there was people being banned for having way more money then is even possible to earn lol. and then they were sending the money to random players and random people were being banned for it. they banned alot of people. there was a car glitch when you went to repair it you could earn money i cant remember how it was to long ago but they patched it. also i remember me and my friend were trying to reach level 100 doing the same circle track over and over again because it gave the most legit xp. some guy joined our match who was level 1000 LOL. im talking this was the first week of online. theres no way that guy could be level 1000 in a week. we were racing nonstop night and day for hours to try to hit 100. i have no clue how that person ranked up so high that fast back then but we seen a few others around level 500-750 as well once in a while which just couldnt be possible legit in that timeframe.

abusing the hell out of glitches is great and all but the question is: did other people's 8000 rank ruin the experience?...and if so, how?...

beside the point though...i think it's important to make a clear distinction between the ps3 and ps4 versions...i'm gonna come across as both an r* and sony fanboy here but I think it's important to kind of rationalize some of the myths...

fact: the ps3 version public online is bad...haha...in my experience, most games that have vast online communities are also the most popular for hackers and always have been...there is a myth that companies like r* and treyarch (cod franchise) don't do anything about modders...run like the wind trophy aside (where r* blocked a trophy because of modders only to make it accessible exclusively to modders...irrational...i've done my part and filed numerous complaint tickets on behalf of gamers despite already having the trophy) both companies have released a plethora of patches to block mod menus...i've dabbled with online menus for both gta v and blops2 and installing out of date ones gives you an error saying basically "f**k you hacker...kicking you back to singleplayer now...you're risking a permaban if you try to get online again"...and some just outright ban your account...

the thing is, the problem actually lies on sony's side with the ps3...the encryption for the ps3 was way too easy to crack and this includes not only in games but also access to the store content...thankfully, they have done a much better job with the ps4...no one has cracked the online yet as far as I've seen...only myths of one german and one french player who provided sketchy evidence...i don't find it surprising that companies have stopped investing in their ps3 content and focused on the ps4 stuff instead...

which brings us back to gta v...the ps4 version was released in late 2014...so like 5 years ago...anyone who has consistently played gtao over the years  knows that new content has been added regularly...and at times, on a weekly basis...and not just superficial content like clothing and weapon/vehicle skins...they have tried out, added, and expanded on so many game modes which includes the addition of some pretty epic heists...i mean just over a month ago the casino heist was released...if anyone hasn't played it, I highly recommend it...it's expensive to start up but ranks as the most enjoyable of the bunch in my books...

and yes, there are hacked rank 8000 players online in the ps4 version who carried their characters over from the ps3 version when it was possible but they cannot use any mods...yes, r* has given up on the ps3 version and have publicly said so...my guess would be that they didn't find it worth their time, money, and effort to work on a game that would be hacked within a week of a patch to remove modders...does it suck?...yep...does it make sense?...debatable but I'd vote yep... investing that same time, money, and effort without having to waste any resources on hackers is completely reasonable imo...is the online still accessible and playable?...slightly broken in some areas but yep...are there exploits?...r* tries to patch them out but there certainly have been over the years...are these exploits so prevalent that it could ruin the gtao experience?...i guess it depends on which ones and what a person's mindset is...if you're looking to have fun, there is plenty of fun to be had and particularly if you enjoy playing online with friends...if you're looking for excuses to criticize it or simply don't enjoy online play then I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for ...

the whole thing is though, it's a logical fallacy to form an opinion of "I didn't enjoy the ps4 online because of all the hackers and cheaters" when you actually didn't come across any during the very limited time you played...not an invalid opinion, just a highly irrational one...
