We have some more details on the main characters set to appear in Root Letter. http://gematsu.com/2016/10/root-letter-details-main-characters

Fumino Aya

Root-Letter_10-14-16_001.jpg

Born in Tokyo an only child, Fumino Aya is a senior at high school who loves history and mythology. She’s also the lead character’s (that’s you!) pen pal from 15 years ago. Back then, she came across as kind and compassionate – but as you investigate her disappearance, you begin to question everything you thought you knew about her.

Ishihara Yukari

Root-Letter_10-14-16_002.jpg

The daughter of an advertising exec and a waitress at a diner – Yukari grew up to be curator at the Shimane Art Museum. Always in the shadow of her older sister who had the privilege of going to a prestigious university, she developed something of an inferiority complex. Now that she’s gown up and her career is going well, she’s a little more optimistic.

Omori Jun

Root-Letter_10-14-16_003-600x434.jpg

Dedicated to the art of making exquisite pastries and sweets, Omori owns one of the best patisseries in Shimane. He has a kind and gentle demeanour, but does this hide a dark secret? Fun Fact: The Pastry shop in Root Letter is actually based on a real world shop called Patisserie Galette. Thestor’s primary mission is to make French pastries that suit the Japanese palette!

Tanaka Kousuke

Root-Letter_10-14-16_004.jpg

Mild mannered and suffering from lack of confidence, Tanaka has a mild speech impediment. As a kid he was always the smartest boy in school and was destined for great things. Then all of a sudden his grades started to crash. What was it that happened 15 years ago that ruined his once-perfect academic record?

Watanabe Masaya

Root-Letter_10-14-16_005.jpg

One minute he was high school’s star athlete dreaming of becoming a professional baseball player. The next minute he’s injured and consigned to the side-lines. The tragedy was too much to take and so he fell in with the wrong crowd and was destined for a life of petty crime. Now, as an adult, he’s turned himself around, teaching PE at the local school. What was it that brought him back from the brink?

Murakami Misaki

Root-Letter_10-14-16_006.jpg

A television presenter for a local channel, Misaki’s family runs a sake brewery. She is sometimes a little blunt and rude and craves the life of a serious news reporter. She believes that she must be impartial and report the truth – but isn’t that just a little hypocritical given the events of the past?

Nozu Shota

Root-Letter_10-14-16_007.jpg

Shota was a spoilt kid who had a life of wealth and privilege. When his father’s company brought shame on itself or being involved in fraud, Shota went from having it all to being on the brink of poverty. He now works as a bartender, which is hardly where thought his future would be. You can’t blame him for being bitter, but why does Shota still blames someone else for his misfortune?

Sasaki Riko

Root-Letter_10-14-16_008-600x765.jpg

Riko is just an average housewife married to an average guy – which is a long way from where she wanted to be. Pretty and talented, she always wanted to be an actress, so that she could become rich and famous and look after her parents. Still, her daughter looks like she may be following her dreams for her, but… is that a hint of jealousy we detect?

I love how the character descriptions make them all sound suspicious. xD I can't wait to find out what happens. I'm getting more and more excited about this game by the day! :)

Why do I feel they did their utmost to model Aya but other characters look a bit bad? :/

This game is getting better and better. I like a good mystery-solving game.

Tanaka's glasses seem a bit small :P.

It's clearly because Aya deserves all that extra attention.

But I dunno, I don't think they look THAT bad. :P

Me too. They're my favourite kind of VN. :)

I don't know it's just me, but Ishihara Yukari reminds me of Yuri Lowell from Tales of Vesperia.

Tell me you see the similarities too. :P

Nice :highfive:.

That gif brings back memories from when I thought that would have a happy end.

Hehe, we were so naive back then... :giggle:

They aren't weeb enough :awesome:

Needs more lolis. :P

Why did you say that, what has been seen cannot be unseen :shakefist:. But yeah, she does resemble Yuri

Yep, to make matters worse: I hadn't seen any TWD episodes before that nor read the comics, went in completely blind.

*snip*

I like the character descriptions, all of the characters are looking to be so interesting.

Yeah, I feel the same way. Aya looks great and Yukari is not too bad either but all other character seem to be a bit rushed or something :/.

IMO only Riko and Kousuke look a bit weird, the others look normal to me.

i wanted to buy this game, but after reading you play a old guy and there are no loli's in the game i'm not intrested anymore

Those are some odd reasons to write the game off if you don't mind me saying. :P

I mean I like lolis as much as the next guy (probably way more actually :giggle:), but it's a mystery VN, not a dating sim. The main appeal of the game is the story, and uncovering what happened, not the sex appeal of the characters. :P

Besides, having some adorable lolis probably wouldn't fit with the tone this game is going for, and I'd be way too distracted by their cuteness to solve the mystery. :awesome:

I see the trophy list is up in English now: http://psnprofiles.com/trophies/5464-%E2%88%9ALetter

Since it's a niche game, I doubt many people would be interested in a thread dedicated to discussing the trophies alone, so I figure I'd leave my thoughts here instead.

For the most part, it seems to be your typical VN trophy list. There's a few things that stand out to me though. Acquiring all of the items sounds like it's missable. I'm sure we'll have to investigate areas thoroughly. That's where the trophy for using the "Check" command 200 times comes in I suppose. I wonder if that will come naturally or not. There's a trophy for spotting SHIMANEKKO 10+ times... I have no idea. :P My best guess is that it's some kind of collectible, and going by another trophy, it looks like you speak to it. Maybe it gives you clues or hints? :hmm: I'm not sure what selecting all of the letter replies means, and then of course there's trophies for finishing all of the different routes... or should I say Roots? ;)

I guess you could say I'm pretty excited about this game. :P I've got that limited edition pre-ordered and ready to go! Of course it's unlikely I'll play it at launch though because I'm useless without a guide. xD

I have this on my want list because well...it looks to be a good VN! I really have high hopes for this one but I don't think this will sell well sadly.

That depends on your definition of selling well I guess. It's obviously not going to sell hundreds of thousands of units or anything, but I think it still has a good chance of being profitable. It's a VN after all, so I doubt it cost very much to make. We just need to spread the word to any that will listen. ;)
