I think 2020 will be it for PS3's PSN (unless the trophy system and profiles will carry over to PS5 anyway).Β As far as I know when I have very simular questions. The PS3 trophies will still exsit because the trophies are coded in the game itself and if they want to remove PS3 trophies they need to shut down psn all together & build it all over again to do so
Ghost
Play Has No Limits: Digging deeper into yesterdayβs PS5 announcements Β Eric Lempel is PlayStationβs Head of Global Marketing and Consumer Experience. And he has a deep history with the company, spanning way, way back to the pre-PS2 days. That made him the perfect guy to shed new light on yesterdayβs PS5 announcements and hardware reveal.Β Β Listen to the chat on the new episode of PlayStation Blogcast. Read on for some key excerpts from the conversation, condensed and edited for readability. Β PSB: Why has it taken so long to see PS5 games in action? Β Eric: Coming out of PlayStation 4, all of the success weβve seen, and the fansβ passion for the brand, we really wanted to make sure we delivered strongly with PlayStation 5. Β As weβve said many times, PS5 is truly a next-generation console. Itβs a leap ahead. And we wanted to wait for the right time when everything lined up. And I think, and I hope, that fans saw that we had a great mix of content from our partners and our studios, and that we delivered on expectation. Β PSB: We also got our first look at PS5. Can you give us any insight into how the console design made its way out to the public? Β Eric: Iβll give you a little story. Many months ago, I was in Tokyo. I got an invite to a meeting with Jim Ryan, our President [and CEO], and a bunch of other people. Pretty small group. And it was on a floor in the Sony headquarters building that Iβd never been to before. The subject of the meeting was, βdesign.β So I thought I was going to a design meeting. And I got to this floor, andβ¦ there were a few doors you had to get throughβ¦ you finally end up in this mini vault, a walk-in vault type of thing. There are these nice lights up above shining down. And there it was. Everything you saw todayβ¦ PlayStation 5 was there, both units. The whole line of peripherals. Β And while I think everybody got a good view today, with all the shots you saw in the show. When you see this thing in person, there are a lot of nice, surprising featuresβ¦ itβs gorgeous, itβs just a marvel. I think people are going to love having in their home, itβs something theyβll want to show off. Β PSB: Weβve learned that there are two PlayStation 5 systems. What can you tell me about the logic and the strategy there? Β Eric: The idea here is, thereβs a second [PS5] that represents the growth of the digital business over the yearsβ¦. And a lot of consumers have shifted the way they interact with our products. Part of my job, and my teamβs, is to talk to consumers all the time, understand what they like and what they want. And thereβs a segment of consumers that just want to go digital. Β So this is the answer to that need. Itβs a discless version [of PS5]. Itβs important to note that, itβs essentially the same product. Youβre not talking about any change to features, or any change to power. Itβs the same product, with slight cosmetic differences, and no disc drive. So itβs all digital. Β PSB: What is the strategy with PS5 when it comes to exclusive titles and working with partners? Β Eric: Similar to what we did with PS4, our teams spoke with developers well in advance of releasing the product. And we talked to developers about what they wanted in a next-generation consoleβ¦. and a lot of their feedback went into the design of the PlayStation 5 architecture. And with that, we found that along the way, they were creating some great games that matched up so well to the platform and the ambition weβre trying to achieve. So weβre really fortunate because there are a ton of great titles, as you saw today, and a lot of them are exclusive. Β All in, we showed about 13 titles that are launching exclusively on PlayStation 5. And those exclusive arrangements range from a few months to a couple of years. You saw some great titles: Godfall from Gearbox, Death Loop from Bethesda, Project Athia from Square Enixβ¦ Β What Iβm really happy about is that, this time around, there are a large number of independent developers who are also going to be with us around the launch timeframe. So you saw some of those titles today: The Pathless from Annapurna, Bugsnax from Young Horses. And then a franchise that goes back to the first PlayStation, with Oddworld. We have Oddworld Soulstorm from Oddworld Inhabitantsβ¦ itβs great to see how far that franchise has come, and how it will be introduced to a whole new generation on PS5. Β PSB: I was somewhat blown away by the number of titles that were shown by PlayStation Studios. Is it the most that have ever been debuted as part of a new console cycle? Β Eric: This, by far, is the biggest [first-party] lineup we have ever had in the history of PlayStation. Weβre so fortunate that we have so many beloved titles and characters that people have grown up with over the years. Iβm amazed at how well our studios are delivering against the launch timeframe. Today you saw really big, well-established franchises that people have known for yearsβ¦ Gran Turismo, Ratchet & Clank.Β Β Then youβre seeing somewhat new franchises making an appearance on PlayStation 5, like with our big closer [Horizon]. Then we have one of my favorites with Marvelβs Spider-Man, Miles Morales. Miles has become such a beloved character, people are absolutely obsessed with him. And now youβre going to get to play him on PS5. Marvelβs Spider-Man was one of my favorite titles, itβs the last Platinum trophy I receivedβ¦ we canβt wait to get these out. Β There was another big one in there, people have been looking for it for years. And that was the Demonβs Souls remakeβ¦ Iβve been fortunate enough to see it, and play it just a bit. Itβs absolutely beautiful, itβs stunning. When people see thisβ¦ especially if theyβre fans, theyβll be amazed. And if they havenβt played it, this is the way to do it. Ghost
This is good to hear. It also makes sense to double the units to be produced since there's two versions. Β Quote Sony is reportedly increasing its PlayStation 5 production to 10 million units in 2020 as it "sees the prolonged effects of the COVID-19 pandemic boosting demand for gaming." Β As reported by Nikkei Asian Review and Bloomberg, Sony had originally planned to produce 5-6 million consoles by the end of March 2021, but the change in demand due to the global pandemic has caused it to change course. Sony is said to have begun PS5 mass production in June and "under the latest plan, expects to assemble 5 million units by the end of September and another 5 million between October and December." Β Not all 10 million may make it to store shelves in 2020, however, as logistical delays may delay a percentage of the PlayStation 5 consoles to 2021. A big factor in the potential delay for some of the stock is due to shipping constraints, as "a large proportion of Sonyβs consoles are made in China and sent out via sea around the world." It can take months for these consoles to make it from China to the U.S. and Europe via ocean lines, which can cause issues keeping PS5s in stock. Β Sony is also said to be increasing production for PlayStation 5's DualSense controller. It had originally planned on producing 10 million units. ziggypossum
Β Β Β Quote Β Sony has a currently unnamed event planned for the 18th September during PAX Online Β It's one of the only upcoming PAX events that doesn't have a title β it's simply called 'Sony Holder' at the time of writing. And so the speculation begins. Β It could well be that Sony has something big planned for whatever this PAX showing is β or perhaps it plans on using this event to expand upon upcoming PS5 announcements. Again, the fact that this slot doesn't have a name suggests that it's all very secretive. Β Of course, following theΒ Xbox Series X and Series S price and release date revealsΒ earlier this week, many are demanding that Sony breaks its silence. The bottom line is that the Japanese giant has no choice but to give us more information on the PS5 soon β the next-gen console is supposed to launch before the year is out, remember. Β Could this PAX showing be the event that we've been waiting for? Or perhaps it at least has something to do with upcoming PS5 news? As always, we'll have to wait and see.
