The difference is that its not the ESRB who restricts the developers its the companies like MS and sony who dont allow some ecchi content and AO rated games on their platform.

 

The best ratings board is EUs pegi bc there are no restrictions and an 18 rating can be for a game like Callisto protocol as well as leisure suit larry but in most cases, games with sexual content dont get an 18 rating in the EU.

 

The esrb should just get rid of the M rating in exchange for the AO bc a 1 year difference between ratings is ridicilous

Disagree about Pegi being the best because some games in Europe have been censored to avoid getting an 18 in order to get a 16. Even though its only 2 years apart, devs still feel the need to do that. Granted, not many games have been censored to get a 16 instead of an 18 unlike tons of games getting censored to get a T instead of an M. Imo the Esrb should just get rid of the AO rating and just ban pornographic games from consoles. Getting rid of the M rating wouldnt make any sense. As you said, its only a year apart from the AO rating. Not only that, the M rating has been around for over 20 years. And its on thousands of games. Seeing it gone would kinda suck.

Hot Tentacles Shooter will have extra censorship in the PlayStation versions compared with the Switch version. It seems like Sony has a problem with the "undressing mechanic" in particular, so the girls you rescue will only have the one outfit. Also, the PC version has nudity which isn't in any of the console versions.

At least the Switch gets it at all but it's annoying that Nintendo seems to be back peddling a little bit on their promise of no Third Party censorship, I just hope this isn't the start of a swing back to their bad habits of the 80's and 90's .

They've backpedalled in the sense that they aren't allowing full-on nudity anymore, but that felt like a bit of an anomaly anyway. It still sucks of course, but it's a far cry from what Sony have been doing. Nintendo still seem pretty hands off when it comes to third party titles and I don't think that's going to change anytime soon.

Here's some good news for a change, Hell Pie had its Australia ban overturned and is now available uncut with an R-18+ rating but I don't know if New Zealand has also unbanned it.

It looks like Samurai Maiden was censored by replacing the panty shots with a black void. Whether it was just for the trailer or not remains to be seen, but past trailers had no problem showing it, so I have my doubts.

The top image is from the announcement trailer and the bottom image is from the new trailer for Komimi.

The black void is bad enough but butchering the translation like that, is more than enough for me to just avoid this game outright and buy something else instead. I wish these waifu centric devs would focus on the Switch/PC and tell Sony to get lost .

it seems like the panty shots are still there in the new trailer. looks like it might only the trailer that was censored and not the game

Ah okay, so that's what's going on. The black void appears when you pause/go into photo mode but not during gameplay. Lame.

I found a video that shows it a bit more clearly. I've added that extra info to the game's entry on the list.
