No surprise here since it is a Gust game, but Atelier Ryza 3 has some black void censorship. It looks as bad as you would expect.

That's another game I was looking forward to that I'll now either be getting second hand, in a deep sale or skipping entirely :(.

At this point, I fully expect the Lollipop Chainsaw Remake to have a black void under Juliet's skirt. If I were to play the remake and I get a trophy for looking up her skirt and I see a panty shot, that would blow my mind. In todays gaming climate, Twitter would have a fuss about it xD

You should watch the Zero Punctuation review of lollipop chainsaw, it was pretty funny. Yes that would be surprising

I don't know if it's there in other outfits too, but there's a black void under this dress Tifa can wear.

Did that black void get patched in?

My understanding of this thread (or at least I thought it was) is that games ALREADY released, getting a re-release getting censored / censored in a different region.

I mean sure you can't see Tifa's pants, I see the reasoning there since pants have been covered/censored, but I think it's a bit of a stretch to say FFR7 remake has been censored if no versions exists without the pants. I assumed this thread was so people can realise what is censored and then seek out the uncensored version. (I think this is almost a non existent complaint, I mean, have you seen the full nude mods in action for this game?! lol)

Same goes with RE4 remake, I mean sure bits of the old game are not in anymore, I don't have RE4 remake yet but I am assuming they changed quite a lot and a whole ton of stuff has been removed but new stuff added.

Also, in that case

THE DOOR GOT CENSORED!!!      (movie is spoiler free)

if people werent such sensative morons, censorship probably wouldn't be as a big as it is. But you know, for every panty shown, someone has to bitch "think of the children!".

That Ryza censorship is brutal....

It’s Gust/Kt preemptively censoring I think,

i don’t really get it though. They censored the steam version of Ar No Surge+ but left the PS4 version the same as vita/ps3

I would assume it's a matter of them making a judgement call on 'are we going to get bitched out for this'. There are really only two options: Leave it with the ability to patch it out later if needs be or change it ahead of time and call it gravy. The second option is less work simply because they won't have to revisit it later for a patch.

Sort of wonder how it shakes out internally at Sony. Sure, they say change it/remove it or it won't be published, but are they actually going to block a known money making animu game from making said money? Particularly so when the main audience is the JP PSN, who aren't going to be down for western censorship?

That's a pretty odd thing from valve, considering there is hundreds of uncensored porn games on steam

apparently steam still forces lots of japanese games to be censored or banned like dungeon travelers 2

The Ryza thing isn’t really censorship, censorship is something governments do…

This is more a case of a producer/marketing department saying the main character having a constant wedgie and/or vaginal crease may be a net negative for reception/sales and then a petulant dev team have gone away and, in protest, implemented the change in the laziest, most eyesore of a way.

Sure, it  looks just ridiculous but you can’t blame culture wars for this one, blame the devs.

That's factually incorrect, censorship can be performed by anyone or any institution

Well then that person needs firing as they obviously do not understand their own fanbase

It's not like people screech at anything they don't like and harass and bombard the companies till they pander... (Hogwarts Legacy, Atomic Heart etc)  KT just probably can't be bothered to deal with them.

Totally, but in this context an actual example of censorship would be say the German government outright banning games that glorify Hitler or China banning something critical of communism.

KT self-editing to achieve a specific ESRB/PEGI/CERO rating or to comply with Sony/Steam’s “taste and decency” rules for games to be featured on their store fronts isn’t censorship, it’s a marketing decision/cash grab by the publisher/developer with perhaps a slight undertone of suppression.

Personally, I couldn’t care less if these games went as far as having the characters run around “commando” with an option to increase/decrease “the junk in the trunk” and labia sizes or conversely if they just plain erased all texture/contours inside the underwear-zone but the implementation of the extended black cloud in this case feels like the devs trashing their own (acclaimed) character designs to prove a needless point.

It looks like the German release of WW2: Bunker Simulator is censored: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1155870/discussions/0/3371530631536117966/. The other versions have an optional censorship mode for streamers so they can turn off the swastikas but both that and the swastikas have been removed from the German release.

I wonder if they are aware that swastikas are allowed in videogames in Germany...
