VA-11 HALL-A is a cyberpunk bartending game. Mostly visual novel with drink making. Great story, awesome visuals, fantastic music. Can not recommend it enough.

Exactly the game I was going to say ?

Haven’t played it myself yet, but it came highly recommended by someone who’s taste I trust, and from what I know of it - and Coffee Talk - I’d say it’s exactly the game you are looking for!

VA-11 HALL-A would be the moat similar, because it's also a visual novel that has making drinks as a gameplay mechanic. But besides that, I can only suggest other games with similar themes:

- We should talk.

- Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan

- Teacup

- Tacoma

- Beholder

- Persona

The first result is Zero Escape which is nothing like Coffee Talk except for also being a visual novel. A psychological horror VN about being locked in a coffee shop and trying to escape might be cool though.

50gameslike.com just uses percentage matches across various genre criteria, then looks as the average across all of them and chooses the closest games based on those…

…but has no “human element” to actually look at what about a games makes it what it is, and makes it feel like the game it does.

It’s “matches” are basically the videogame equivalent of when you order your shopping online, and an item isn’t in stock, so they send you a computer selected ‘equivalent’.

You know - when they don’t have a chicken, so they send you a chicken stock cube.

Or they don’t have red onions, so they send you a tin of red gloss paint.

Or they don’t have broccoli, so they send you a copy of the latest James Bond movie, produced by Barbara Broccoli.

To me, Coffee Talk's main appeal was its genuinely mature, human life and problems that the characters face and discuss. So that's what my recommendations are based on

  • It's gonna sound like I'm messing with you, but Bugsnax, the side characters have got bundles of mature themes I mentioned. Of course it's a puzzle pokemon type game too, so slightly trickier.
  • I'd also say 2064: Read Only Memories has a major character focus, but it is an actual progressing story, so some characters to feel a little rushed over, and it's branching narrative is kinda dumb by the options being, "be nice" or "be a jerk for no real reason." It's a point and click mystery game with a similar pixel artstyle.
  • Headliner Novinews is a good character focused game, with overarching themes of the news's impact on society, with characters experiencing different troubles based on the articles you do and don't publish.
  • Spiritfarer's a farming management game where you escort people to the after life, It's natural to get attached to the character how talk about their life and what they never resolved and also cry when they leave you (and yes I did cry too)
  • A game that is the embodiment of big character with writing alone is Thomas was Alone which successfully makes you care about rectangles with writing and narration alone.
  • Everyone is saying VA-11 Hall A for good reason, it's basically the exact same as Coffee Talk.

There are other ones, like Persona, and Evan's Remains, but it's nearly midnight and I'm doing a 100 mile drive in the morning.

It's more of a reference tool. I know nothing about Coffee Talk or Zero Escape.
