Box: Green Game: "Chained Echoes" A decent enough effort at making a ChronoTrigger inspired pixel-art RPG, it's got some good elements, but some real rough ones too. The actual world and pixel art are pretty strong, and there is the spine of a really good narrative... ...but the actual story is paced pretty badly, with the early game being hopelessly and unnecessarily complicated, featuring constant references to warring kingdoms and intrigue involving characters who largely don't matter (and in a few cases, don't even feature,) and ends up only really finding it's feet in the later game... ...only to then over-shoot, and fail to stick the landing, by introducing a rotoscope of barely-touched on characters, and trying to "one-up" its own plot twists, seemingly with every single cut-scene, to the point of absurdity. The side content narrative are good, and inject some needed humour and whimsy, but the main story is oppressively humourless and straight-laced, in a genre that works best when it's light-hearted and fun... ...and the combat and progression is absolutely saturated with cumbersome and unnecessary systems slowing down the pace. Not a complete flop, but also not a game that could live up to my expectations - particularly coming off the back of Sea of Stars, which did the ChronoTrigger-alike thing so much better! A touch borderline this one - but the overall effect seems green to me - and has been confirmed by my cartel of secret colour police! - so I'm happy enough using it - just need make sure the other green one is as solid as possible to compensate! 22 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Popular Post GT__Jedi Posted February 6 Popular Post Share Posted February 6 Finally getting around to posting my card with a few entries: Black: Pinball Heroes - Old style pinball game with 8 different tables. Trophies consisted of playing each table, beating the high score and a few other accomplishments. 2 of the tables gave me a little problem, Fat Princess and something else, that were unforgiving on any mistakes. There is a "reverse time" option that allows you to replay the ball if you need to. If you like pinball, I suggest going with a better game such as Pinball FX. Blue: Carto - Really a fun game where you play as a cartographer looking for pieces of a map and visiting different locales. Challenges at each location that were fun and made you think, and the storyline flowed and kept my interest. Map pieces can be placed/rotated to allow you to reach different areas to accomplish your goals. Recommend this for your library and it is available on PS Plus. Light Blue: Roki - Really thought I'd give this one a glowing review but by the 3rd chapter I was over the game and ready to just finish it. First 2 chapters were interesting, nice puzzles and characters, and the story made sense. The 3rd chapter had you playing 2 characters, switching back and forth, and that wasn't too bad - but the game just seemed to drag on, and on, and on....you get the drift. Well I'm using Saints Row for Light Blue and The Heist and The Hazardous DLC for Blue. This might sound weird but I quite enjoyed the game. It does have that Saints Row 2 feel to it I thought. The game suffers from some performance issues tho... npcs, weapons, cutscenes not loading right sometimes and the game crashing a few times on me. As for The Heist and The Hazardous DLC (yeah it's SR's version of Fast and Furious) is not bad but way too short and not worth the money on its own... good thing I got the season pass on discount (the other DLCs are a bit meatier/better). Oh well, I had to get the curse of replaying a game from start to finish one of these days. It's like Tales of Arise meets a more casual Monster Hunter. Green due to the grass or yellow due to the letters, but I'm no color police. Maybe light blue from the rays in the background, but that's probably a bit more of a stretch. I think no one answered you because we see the same thing as you which is just a giant question mark. I think no one is answering 'cause no one can figure it out 😆 If I'm honest, I think that one fall in the "it's too many colours, so it doesn't fit anywhere", as even trying to fall on the background is tough, since it has multiple... ...but if you want to use it, it's going to probably depend on what else is on the card around it. I'd say either Light Blue for that woman's hair filling up most of the image, or maroon as the top part of the image is all a red-brown color. I enjoy sports, and I enjoy when a sports game isn't an overly long drawn out platinum (I'm looking at you Madden 23/24). PGA 2K23 was simple, fun, and short at around 16 hours. Its a great game to throw on when you only have 20-30 minutes as it is enough time to knock out a round or two. Was fun enough I actually considered going back to 2K21, but I've got other, bigger, priorities right now. Next up: Light Blue - Crisis Core. The game has been very enjoyable. Missions are another great aspect of that game I can leverage in shorter play sessions, and what I've seen so far, the story has been entertaining. I did not see a PSP game being as strong as this one is. Glad they remade it for PS4/5 and I'll finish it before the release of Rebirth. Year Long Goal: Grey(Will replace 2K23) - Persona 5 Royal. Went shopping for my kid and a local gamestop had the steel book version, used, for $23. I couldn't pass it up as the box around the steel book and steel book were in fantastic condition. So, I started it. I plan on taking it in chunks like I did Persona 4 Golden, but I should be able to work it between other games, 10-20 hours at a time until I get it all finished. My personal gym coach is also playing that game, he's at the final palace and playing with his four-year old daughter, having a blast! I intend to play both versions soon, but for now I'm taking in other games, like Wild Arms(both versions) and Chicory: A Colorful Tale(both versions). I had a better start last year 😀 So I've got Mafia 2 for Tan Oh boy. This game is.... rough. Mafia 1's story was at least a bit more interesting... but this one is just all over the place.... and it doesn't hold up at all. The story, the animations, the voice acting... none of it worked for me unfortunately. Gonna be skipping Mafia 3 And the less said about the drive 1000 miles trophy, the better.
