Quite a big fan of the atmosphere of this game. Just wish it wasn't so linear in parts.

 

It has some good levels though, the first one in Chinatown being one of the strongest by far.

PAC-MAN 256 Master (Bronze)

I'm now back to hunting in PAC-MAN Museum+, now that I've done with the Dreams grind... and proceeded to jump right into another grind. Yeah, I'm not expecting to get this done until October at the earilest. I'm focusing on the in-game missions first and foremost, starting with PAC-MAN 256 because I heard it was a ludicrous grind and wanted to get it out of the way early. My idea was that after 256 was finished up, I could then work my way down the list of everything else and complete the remaining games starting with my least favorite titles, working up to the ones I love. After completing this grind... this might be my new least favorite game in the collection now.

 

I'll save you the rant, so to keep it brief, I think this game sucks for a few reasons, the main one being how luck-based it feels. It always felt like I was at the mercy of the game's random level generation, with me constantly being cornered by ghosts that put me into inescapable situations all the damn time. Wandered into a normal-looking corridor? Sorry, pal. You should have just known that this random part would automatically kill you! Does that sound fair to you? It's not! I'm not lying when I say that a good 80% of my deaths were at the hands of stuff like that. Dying rarely felt like my fault in this game due to this RNG-dependent BS, which made it no fun to play. It is not a well-designed or fun game. It honestly feels like this is specifically designed just to piss you off at times.

 

And then there's the ludicrous grind. It is awful. It took me 20 hours and 558 runs (no, seriously) to do this one game because of how slow the progression is. It gives you barely any coins, so you just have to play this frustrating and unfair game over and over and over again until the game mercifully lets you get the last level for the power up you're working on. It is absolutely miserable in every sense of the word and I am so glad it's finally over. I greayly anticipate playing literally anything that isn't PAC-MAN 256. I'll be doing Pac-in-Time next.

After a long journey, I've completed revisiting this game. Before I say anything about it, let me say a couple of things.

 

First, the final area. I said it once, and I'll say it again. It's awesome. Going through all the familiar areas mixed made me feel nostalgic. The only thing I don't like are all the mandatory encounters which can't be avoided, no matter what. I wouldn't mind it so much, except that there are too many of them, and they become tiresome sooner or later. On the other hand, it has easily the best boss battles in the game. The battle against Dominus Circus was already something because of that song, but the final battle is what takes the cake. The first phase is already great, but it really kicks off with that awesome second phase and its kick-ass song. Once those bass beats drop in, you know it's going to be awesome. Yup, for everything you have to go through in the game, the final battle is a worthy reward.

 

Then there's the gift-giving, which went much better than last time, as I only had to grind materials for one of them. I remember saying that I found a good farming point for that, but I couldn't remember it till I was done. Then again, it doesn't matter, because I found another good spot and it was only a matter before I got everything. I still like some of the reactions the characters do. Gemma is easily one of my favorites. Hearing him saying "This is for me?" is amusing and always will be. Same goes to Arashi's "You know what I like, thanks".

 

And so, the revisit for this game is over. Did I enjoy it? Of course. To keep it as short as possible: the gameplay (especially the combat), characters (with a few exceptions) and soundtrack, they're still awesome. It also looks visually great. However, the thing I don't like that much are the side quests. They're not the worst I've seen, but they're not the best either. I also find the plot rather ok. It has a few good moments, like the tragic ones, but otherwise, it's nothing special. Finally, Kodama is still annoying as ever, for the following reasons. Her personality, what she did in Kasane's story, and her English voice which hurts my ears, if I'm being honest. At least she sounds better in Japanese, but the thing I hate is that whenever you want to switch between the English and Japanese audio, you have to go to the title screen and change it there. You can't do it from the pause menu. Why?

 

That being said, revisiting was worth it. Maybe someday I'll complete all the challenges, side quests and such, but that's for another time.

 

Speaking of revisits, time to focus on that trophy guide I've been planning to create for a long time. After that, I might start something I've been saving for a while.

 

 

By the way, I had completely forgotten this image. Before I was finished, I decided to do the EX Bond Episodes, with one of them giving me that. Even though their relationship didn't go that far, I'm still satisfied with this. And yes, Hanabi is still my favorite character. I like how her name literally translates to "fireworks" which suits her ability (pyrokinesis) perfectly.

I retract my statement about PAC-MAN 256 being my least favorite game in the collection. The grind made me forget what this game was actually like. This was absolutely miserable. For those who are unaware, Pac-in-Time is an old 2D platformer starring PAC-MAN developed for the Super Nintendo (yes, a SNES game on PS4. Weird, ain't it?). This seemed like an interesting and unique addition to the collection at first, until I actually played it and realized that damn near everything about this game is severely flawed in some way, shape, or form. The concept isn't very interesting; it just involves eating all of the dots in these maze-like levels and reaching the end. A very literal translation of the original PAC-MAN game's formula into a 2D platformer, but not exactly very fun concept to base a game around. The levels are extremely labyrinthine, often have moments where the way to progress or reach the remaining Pac-Dots is incredibly unclear, and are overall excruciatingly cumbersome to navigate. Worst of all, the controls and physics are awful. PAC-MAN feels both unresponsive and overly responsive at the same time, has the tendency to bounce off of goddamn everything while jumping, and will slide down, often times into something that will hurt and/or kill you if you even look funny at the smallest possible slope.

 

This game just feels absolutely awful to play, has unfun mechanics, and suffers from some of the most cumbersome and poorly-thought out level design I've suffered through in a long time. Pac-in-Time is wretched and I'm so glad I never have to play it again. Without a doubt, thid id the worst game in Museum+, no contest. At least this mercifully only took around three hours to knock out. And on the bright side, I have now completed the missions in both of the games in this collection that I outright dislike. From here on out, every game I'll be doing are games I'm either just neutral towards or ones I actually really like. It's all up from here, now that I've gotten the trash out of the way. Really looking forward to playing all of the really good ones. The next game I'll finish up is PAC Motos.

 

And before you ask, yes, I will be posting here every time I finish up the missions in a game in Museum+. Hope you like reading what I have to say.
