Microsoft to acquire GitHub for $7.5 Billion

I don't think anyone in the gaming world would be greatly affected by this. Microsoft already said they will keep the open source stuff free and mostly just try to improve github's support for enterprise sized code bases. I don't think there is any plan in the short or even long term to shut down a code base or anything like that. And even if that happened, there are plenty of rivals offering similar services, or the company could just host their code locally.

well microsoft does have a lot of money and the A I industry has been growing, plus they're a software company

I use Ms for my pc, so lets see what they do and hope it's going to help the world code

GitHub Inc. is a web-based hosting service for version control using Git. It was acquired by Microsoft as of June 4th, 2018. It is mostly used for computer code. It offers all of the distributed version control and source code management (SCM) functionality of Git as well as adding its own features. It provides access control and several collaboration features such as bug tracking, feature requests, task management, and wikis for every project.[3]

GitHub offers plans for both private repositories and free accounts[4] which are commonly used to host open-source software projects.[5] As of April 2017, GitHub reports having almost 20 million users and 57 million repositories,[6] making it the largest host of source code in the world.[7]

I bet they won't change anything, they are just going to take all the money that github makes, take for example whatsapp, facebook bought it but they never do drastic changes on the app, of course they had made some improvements and extras  for the app but honestly nothing that big.

Not that this is something significant compared to Comcast and NBC merging together years ago.

Still, it sickens me that these giant corporations feel they need to buyout another company. Maybe that wasn't the intention here but these days I'm not surprised anymore.
