SideEffect23
I'm looking for a free Antivirus software. Basically out of Microsoft Security Essentials, Comodo, or malwarebytes? Which do you use? What would you suggest I use? Any help is appreciated.
ille1234
I've found that Kaspersky is really good, I'd definately recommend that Edit: Just noticed the whole "free" part. In that case go for Avast
Sly Ripper
http://www.avast.com/en-gb/free-antivirus-download Get the free version, it's light on resources and better than most paid apps.
RHGSniperFox
MSE by a long shot. Malwarebytes is something different - it's not necessarily active protection, and more meant for actual clean up. As I said in the CB, COMODO is good, but paranoid as hell. PSXtreme_
Now let me tell you that you get what you pay for. Currently I'm using ESET's Nod 32. It's not free, but it's the best antivirus program you've never heard of. It's recommended by Leo Laporte (If you know anthing about tech/computers you should have at least heard of him http://techguylabs.com/ ). ESET NOD32 holds the world record for Virus Bulletin VB100 Awards, never having missed detecting an "In-the-Wild" worm or virus. It's what I currently use. It updates 1-3 times a day with new perameters and I've have had nothing infect my brand new custom built system since getting it 6 months ago.
DanielVT
AVG Security is my weapon of choice. Yep, mine too! Although Norton isn't too bad either.
AlteredFormula
With AV, I would always suggest paying for a decent one, but thats just me. If you're going free, go with Avast. Why people rave about AVG, I'll never know, the amount of my customers that swear by it for their home PC's, that are then riddled with shit is unreal.

Yeah, why anyone would want to use, let alone trust, AVG is beyond me.
hunglikeamuppet
I'm trying to dump my old Dell laptop, so I signed-up for AVG. I'm thinking about hooking-up with this MacBook Pro I saw the other day - what a bombshell!
ShadeSplit
MSE by a long shot. Malwarebytes is something different - it's not necessarily active protection, and more meant for actual clean up. As I said in the CB, COMODO is good, but paranoid as hell. I was going to recommend exactly that, but I thought I'd make it clearer that Malwarebytes is not an anti-virus. It's just for spyware/adware. You should use that in conjunction with MSE. And I will second the notion of NOD 32 being very good. I've been using it for years now.
Dreakon139
If you want to pay, ESET Smart Security/NOD32 is one of the best brands on the market. For free, I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials. It meshes with Windows well (obviously) so it's not particularly intrusive/disruptive... plus as far as definitions go I believe it's one of the higher ranked anti-virus solutions these days. This, and common sense, should help keep your PC clean.
PSXtreme_
If you want to pay, ESET Smart Security/NOD32 is one of the best brands on the market. Last night, my NOD 32 was setting off warning for a "Black Widow" spambot attached to a pic on a website. This thing don't let anything slip through. LeeMcD-
I use a combination of Avast and AVG (both free versions) and have never had an issue with viruses in the 2.5 years I've had this computer.
