gum chewing and gaming

So i been to a few gaming tournaments and a few times i have noticed participants put a stick of gum in their mouth before playing. I asked why and most just shrug and some don't even realize they are doing it. I was at a convention one year and during the Smash bros brawl tournament one of the participants asked the crowd if anyone had a stick of gum. Is this a joke i'm not aware of or some secret winning thing? just curious

I've kicked someone from a gaming session because he insisted on chewing gum while on headset after he was asked multiple times to stop.

I think it helps focus somehow. Or it helps you not grind your teeth if you get tense.

I don't know the reason, but I assume it's like how chewing tobacco and baseball were a thing.

Chewing gum is a coping mechanism for OCD/A.D.D., people just need to be doing SOMETHING to keep their brains/bodies occupied. 

It also becomes habitual.

They have a special place in hell if they decide to stick that gum anywhere else besides a garbage can when they are done with it though.

I know that I often chew gum to help concentrate on certain things or for when I feel stressed/anxious.

Maybe there is something in the gum that enhances their gaming skills and helps them win?......... Nah its probably just because of habit.

Maybe it helps them focus and feel the good taste . Unless that certain gum contains a drug to increase their agility in gaming, I really don't know. I haven't heard of such thing either .

I once heard that chewing on gum burns the fat in your face. Perhaps this is so people can get some type of workout while they sit around playing video games.
