Popular Post AuroraHistoire
The Best Ending I Could Have Hoped For Most of the games were pretty good this time around. I went back played every game from the list in the last 2 days. I tried to give every game an hour but it turned into until I got bored for most of them. I picked the games with the help of a random number generator, so I'll go over them in whatever order the random number generator decides. Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise - Basically a Yakuza game with a Fist of the North Star skin slapped on top of it. The devs were not lazy and did a lot to make it different. I spent of my time playing the bartending mini-game. I am happy to say my hands have fully recovered from the damage it caused. Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time - Worst game of the bunch! I am lost and confused during the adventure sections. The beat 'em gameplay is a bit shit. I give myself a headache trying to figure out how to make progress. Stikbold! - This was the quirky twin stick shooter dodgeball game. It looks a pretty good party game to me. I was planning to play the mini-games on my second look but those require a second controller and I couldn't be bothered to get one of my old controllers working. I messed around with the bots instead and had a lot of fun. Vambrace: Cold Soul - I may of warmed up to this game a bit since I accidentally played this game for 3 hours. Nothing about the game has really gotten better or worse. The story got a little more interesting and it was hard to find a good spot to save and quit. I find this game chill and relaxing. No Straight Roads - The rhythm beat 'em up game. It had several minor problems but the fun outweighs them by a lot. I also have had a few of the songs stuck in my head for the past few days. Zero Escape: The Nonary Games - A combo pack game of 2 Zero Escape games, 999 and Virtue's Last Reward. I played Virtue's Last Reward because what I saw of 999 scarred me. I didn't like it very much and the puzzles were really difficult for me. During my second look and I got a little braver and played 999. The experience was mostly trying to escape a room on a sinking ship that was quickly filling up with water. I took so long solving the series of puzzles need to escape, I would have drowned. I got out eventually and had to face my digital root fears. I refuse to go back to this game anytime soon. Megadimension Neptunia VIIR - A remake of Megadimension Neptunia VIIR. The story is the same, the gameplay has been altered to the point where it is almost unrecognizable, added some VR events where you sit in a room while a character from the game talks about stuff and the graphics look slightly worse. I feel like it is on par with the original. World of Final Fantasy - A pretty relaxing turn based RPG. It is kind of like Pokemon but all Final Fantasy and stuff. Minoria - A very good metroidvania from the developers of the Momodora series (just found out there are 4 of those game 0_0). I felt like Minoria was good at everything while not being great at anything. Pretty fun time regardless. void tRrLM(); //Void Terrarium - Best game of the event, followed closely by No Straight Roads. Void Terrarium is a fun dungeon crawler roguelight. The story is super good and I cried so much. The soundtrack is one of my favorites from any game I have ever played. Alright, time to talk about every other game I played this month. I'll try to be brief but no promises. Dreams - Game creation software that is packaged like a game. I don't have the patience to create anything good with it so I mostly just play other people's games. Most of them are not very good but there are still plenty of good games in there. Good by like 1 dude making this in their free time standards. I have seen some games good enough to be sold if they were fleshed out a bit more. I have spent 1-2 hours playing a single game on a few occasions. I did get to level 30 in Dreams and it was 4 days of leaving the music creator open and tapping buttons with my feet while I played Yakuza: Dead Souls. Mom Hide My Game! - This is a point and click game about a boy trying to find his "portable game console with two screens that looks similar to a DS but not exactly so Nintendo doesn't sue". Everyday his mom hides the Mintendo FS for reasons and the kid has to find it without mom finding out. The kids mom is kinda a psychopath and will set up convoluted ways to hide the Mintendo FS that can lead to the boy get killed... Well, not killed but in the hospital. The game's fun comes from seeing what "wacky" ways mom can hide the Mintendo FS. The game is a port of a poorly translated phone game (I think the translation has been cleaned up a bit and there is not much text anyway unless you're asking Grandpa for a hint every level) and is $5 full price. Hide & Dance! - Same devs as Mom Hide My Game but this is a rhythm game for the same price. All my instincts told me this would be terrible but it is so much better than it has any right to be. There are 20 songs, 3 levels of difficulty and 6 playable characters. The songs are on the short side; they all sound like J-pop or EDM that would be in a Katamari Damacy game. The rhythm game plays well but they made the notes look like the circle button and red, so it is a little confusing at first. The game is on the hard side since if you miss 5 notes you fail. Also, you need to hide when mom peeks her head in so she doesn't see you dancing or it is a instant (and embarrassing) fail. Characters have multiple sick dance moves and hilarious ways of hiding themselves. I especially like the one where Grandpa sets up a murder seen and pretends to be the dead body; Mom just peeks her head and sees nothing to worry about. Yakuza 4 - I was originally going have Yakuza 5 in the list but I was being lazy and had not finished Yakuza 4 before the event started. I finished Yakuza 4 on the 4th day so look forward for Yakuza 5 next time. There is too much in Yakuza 4 to talk about and I don't want to start now. 10 Second Ninja X - This is a simple platformer where you try to kill all enemies in a level as fast as possible. All levels have a time limit of 10 seconds but your true goal is to get 3 stars and that requires you to play the level perfectly. There is also a quirky little story going on in the background that is a good laugh. ClusterTruck - This is a first-person 3D platformer. Each level has a bunch of trucks that are heading towards the goal at the end. Your goal is to use those trucks to get to the end of the level because touching anything that is not a truck is instant death. The levels get chaotic and you will be restarting a lot. The trucks have a bit of RNG in them so it can be a bit frustrating. There are powers you can unlock but a trophy requires you to beat the game without them so I haven't touched them. Xenon Valkyrie+ - Sucks. Minecraft - The biggest game of the last decade and the best selling game of all time. It is pretty good. Kandagawa Jet Girls - A Jetski racing game with water guns. The AI is so damn slow I could beat them using my feet to play the game, with no upgrades. That is not hyperbole, I actually did that; I had one failed attempt because I couldn't get out of reverse for 30 seconds at the start. The vehicle handing is pretty good and the races are fun. The character customization is absolutely insane, in a good way. There is online multiplayer but it have yet to try it. School Girl/Zombie Hunter - A previous KYC I play occasionally. It is a very mediocre zombie 3rd person shooter. Genshin Impact - It is free but getting 100% took playing an hour everyday for 3 months. I mostly just play with my friends now and do my dailies when I have nothing better to do. Inertial Drift - This in an arcade driving game where the gimmick is that you use the right stick to control your drifting. It is not the easiest game but it feels very rewarding once you get good enough to win. All the cars feel different to drive and require you to learn all their quirks if you don't want to crash and burn. Sadly, the soundtrack isn't eurobeat. Danganronpa 1.2 Reload - The same Danganronpa collection from last time. I guess for a update, I played through the first game and didn't really like it. My dislike mostly comes from hating almost all of the characters. I have started the second game and I like it more so far. There is a new cast of characters and I like most of them a lot more than the old ones. There were a couple I didn't like but they died, yay. They still kept the worst character, Monokuma, around for the sequel. The second is mostly the same as the first but everyone is on a island this time. There is a pet raising thing in the game now. All the mini-games in the class trials has been changed; some are better and some are worse. Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix - A very good rhythm game on Switch. Literally Future Tone but with less songs and T-shirts; I own half the DLC and the song list is 141 song while Future Tone had 200+. There some brand new songs that haven't been in a Miku game before tho, 10 at most. There is also a game mode that uses motion controls that is borderline unplayable. Monster Hunter Rise - You (and up to 4 people in online or local multiplayer) use a bunch of really big weapons to kill a really big monster. Then you use the body parts of that monster to make new weapons and armour. Then you use your gear to kill a stronger monster. You repeat that for at least 200 hours and you have a Monster Hunter game. Rise added dogs that you can ride and do sick drifts with. I didn't mention a few games but I'll call it here. See you all next time.
Popular Post voodoo_eyes
Thanks to all who participated. As always adding a few games to my wishist, and looking out for games to avoid. Well, who am I kidding I'll probably still try the shitty games as well and then complain about it Next event will be in July. Hopefully I'll have finished the odd game by then as my HD is starting to fill up with just started games.
Popular Post Edward_FOX_86
I'm really sorry for the late reply, but hey better late than never... Game #5 Last Rebellion Ok so to be honest I did not put as much effort into these two last games as I did with the others, life got mixed and wrapped in between (i don't even know if people say that but whatever :P) Last Rebellion, need to play more, definitely, but still not a game I'm really excited about, I'm so crapy at the game that I think I was 1,5 hours in the game and 0 trophies Won. Graphics are Ps2 like BUT graphics ain't all in a videogame. It's a turn based RPG which I still need to learn about because the mechanics are kinda strange to say the least. I can't really rate it but definitely above 5 out of 10. Game #6 Deponia Adventure Game which I also did not play as much as I should have. Even so, solid story, plays like other adventure games, you have to find objects, mix them, detect problems and come up with a solution, you get the point right? For a Ps4 game I would say this one is a Good. Its humorish and the art style is very apealing. Probably 8 out of 10 This one I'll probably come back sooner than last rebellion. My completion basically stayed the same. I think it went up like 0,5% cause I platted League of Evil on the Vita and Ps4 ssoooooooo yeah ^^ Again I apologise for the delay and hopefully meet you in July without this Covid nonsense preferebly, that would be awesome. Cheers everyone and happy easter , happy hunting and happy everything really ^^
Popular Post PerryToxteth
KYC 15 Game No. 8 Playing Time: 3 hours Trophies Earned: 2/73 (2% E ranking) Final Thoughts: Been crazy busy the last few days. Hopefully, I can get my final reviews in today and do a wrap-up tomorrow! My introduction to the Far Cry franchise was FC3, after a friend’s recommendation. I reluctantly started it bc it didn’t look like my type of game, but I ended up loving it. Characters were quite memorable, the landscape was great, and I already loved climbing towers from my infatuation with the Assassin’s Creed franchise. I even enjoyed the soil-your-pants jump scares when you were trailblazing through the jungle, hear a growl, and suddenly get mauled by a tiger. Since that game, I have played Far Cry Primal, which had an incredible premise, but fell flat for some reason. I also platted Far Cry 4 and that one was not as special as FC3. The one I have always had great reservations about is Far Cry 2. Sounds glitchy and the MP trophies appear to be quite daunting. Heck, if the King of Perseverance @DamagingRob, can’t earn the , there’s no way I could pull it off. So on to Far Cry 5! Can it deliver the magic of FC3? Well, after playing for a few hours, I can definitely state that I am a bit worried. Hopefully, my initial feelings with it will be similar to Watch Dog 2, where I was pretty underwhelmed with the game for the first dozen hours, but by the time I earned the platinum I thought it was better than the original. So what rubbed me the wrong way with FC5? For starters, the game dropped the tutorial too quick. More times than not, Ubisoft is guilty of too much hand-holding (hello Assassin’s Creed III!), but after the story set-up, I am into full-game mode. That’s problematic for me bc I like the game to gradually introduce your abilities. I feel like in this one, Ubi just handed the keys to the Porsche without explaining any of the bells and whistles. Right now I can craft items. Do I know why? No. Do I know how? Not exactly. I just keep collecting ingredients and parts, but have no idea what the purpose is for. Same with fishing and hunting. I can do those things right now. Does the game give me an objective to pursue those ventures? No. Also, It seems like I have full arsenal from the get-go. Full auto rifle? Check. Handgun? Check. Grenades, dynamite, Molotov cocktails? Check, check, check. Maybe I will face some well-equipped baddies soon where I will need to upgrade weapons before taking them on. I guess what I am getting at is I wish the game slowly introduced these things one at a time and gave a clear objective on what to aim for. If this was my first Far Cry game, I would hate it because no explanation is really given on what to do. Given my experience with Ubisoft games, I know I need to clear out areas of the map of baddies, and when attacking an outpost, it’s best to come in quiet and use stealth as long as possible before lighting things up. (Let’s be honest - Ubisoft regurgitates the same style of gameplay for so many games, but who cares? I love it!). What made Far Cry 3 so great, was that you started out with a character as tough as Neville Longbottom, but by the end you were the epitome of John Matrix, gunning down everything that moves. (Bonus points if you know that movie reference!). Secondly, the story has bad timing given today’s political and social landscape in America. You play as a deputy who is being pursued by a wacky religious cult led by a character named Joseph Seed (who resembles David Koresh, but with a man bun. Coincidence? I think not.). You are trying to take back territory from them in rural, mountainous Montana and you need local help. That’s fine, except some of your allies start spouting anti-government dribble. Sorry, but for me it’s tough to see the Make Murica Great Again militia members in a positive way after the January 6 debacle at the US Capitol. I know the game was released a few years ago, it’s just bad timing on my part to play it now. I digress. I’m sure once I am in 12-20 hours, I will want to play non-stop. But at this point, I’m jumping into most of my other KYC games before returning to this one. And I am less than excited to have to tackle the MP trophies. Popular Post PerryToxteth
KYC 15 Game No. 9 LEGO Harry Potter, Years 5-7 Playing Time: 4 hours Trophies Earned: 5/49 (8% E ranking) Final Thoughts: So a bit of backstory. I have been sitting on this game for more than three years, mainly due to the fact that I wanted to finish the book series with my son first. Since 2015, I have been reading the Harry Potter series to him every once and awhile before bedtime. This approach worked fine when the books were a few hundred pages, but The Goblet of Fire was quite lengthy and the fifth book, Order of the Phoenix, drained my energy to read them aloud to him. It’s hard to read a 700-page book out loud! My vocal chords still tremble at the mere thought of that book. So we tackled Book 6 and 7 by reading to ourselves, then discussed over breakfast. It’s a great series and a fun experience to share with a kid. Though in hindsight, I wouldn’t have started the series when he was in Kindergarten. My son still thinks girls are gross and annoying (puberty will cure that soon), so the last couple books of Harry and Rob “snogging” with girls were over his head. After we finished the fourth book, we played the first game in this series, Years 1-4. The nice thing about most LEGO games is that you can play them in co-op, so we played the story levels together, then I did trophy clean-up afterwards. No reason to introduce Trophy O.C.D. to someone so young! Fast forward to this month, and we finally started playing this game. It is your typical LEGO gaming of plowing through levels and not worrying too much about collectibles until the second play through. And of course, there are a TON of collectibles with gold bricks, red bricks with perks, and character tokens. (Free admission- I don’t mind collectibles at all. I find it relaxing to run over rooftops in Assassin’s Creed and collect feathers and open treasure boxes. I know, it’s very odd.) It’s been a few years since I read Order of the Phoenix so some scenes I recognize, while others I have no clue as to what is going on. It’s also my least favorite book so that could be part of the reason. The game is fine, but it’s hard to get into full swing. Instead of going from level to level, there’s lots of required stuff to do between levels, such as unlocking spells. It seems you are jumping locations constantly (mostly out of Hogwarts) but I think the book was similar. I’ll be happy when we can just concentrate on level play. I was looking forward to this game more than the first one, because it didn’t seem the first year books were action-packed enough to warrant an action game. You can only shoot so many spiders, right? When we have done level play in this game, the developers seem to have incorporated book material in a clever and fun way to make the gameplay entertaining. And I’m sure it will get more action-packed as we get into books 6 and 7. If you’ve never played a LEGO game before, try one! They are more fun than you think!! DamagingRob
2 hours ago, PerryToxteth said: Heck, if the King of Perseverance @DamagingRob, can’t earn the , there’s no way I could pull it off. Yeah, I'm surprised I even got the online done. Would be one of my rarest plats if I finished it, but I just don't like the game.. That and not liking playing on the PS3 anymore, is not a good combo. Even going back for Child of Eden during this event was quite painful. Took multiple attempts just to get the special password to work and log in, then the DS3 feels like it has issues (getting a new one of those now is unlikely), and trophy syncing takes an eternity. Blegh. I'm prepared to just let it die, though there are a handful of games in my backlog that I really want to play on it still... Mostly third entries in trilogies that I've put off for far too log.
Popular Post Lodbizarro
Game #6 Review Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc well here we are the last game of the event this is my first glimpse into the Danganronpa universe never played none of the other titles or watched the anime. I must say this has been a fun stroll it starts off kinda slow as they set up the world you live in as a average kid among elites trying to navigate the precarious situation you and the other students find ya selves in. While nothing much happens as you search and adjust to daily life I didn't really mind it as you get to know some of your other classmates. But man when murders start happening and people start dying that's when this games true brilliance start to shine, I love the investigation segments and the trials they're so fluid and unlike anything I've played before (I say this as a huge fan of the Ace Attorney series) While I'm honestly not sure which series does it better I love the approach THH takes with the whole aim and shoot through the statement playstyle or putting the puzzle together closing argument segments really add variety and the humor is about the same with ace attorney as well. Honestly I'm pleasantly surprised and while I haven't finished the game I'm currently in the 3rd Chapter I'm having a blast and while I can't say its better than AA I will put them in the same league (that's a huge compliment). Honestly I kinda wished I did start this game earlier as I probably could have finished before the event ended unfortunately since I didn't THH will not beat out Tales from the Borderlands as best game this event though it's a good second. Rating 8.5/10 Playtime 9 hours Trophies 6/45 Completion 17.9% End of Event Wrap Up I originally wanted to shoot for 10 games this event unfortunately a unexpected injury sidetracked that goal so I fell short t still I think 6 games is a great accomplishment and I'm proud of myself. I had such a great time I truly love this event thank you everyone and especially @voodoo_eyes I'm putting it out there now that I'm definitely participating in July. Popular Post Psy-Tychist
Not the after school class I was expecting. Trophies Earned: 7/8 Percent Complete: 90% Completion Percentage: 66.02% + 0.20% Times I was transported by demons: 4 This game was nothing like I was expecting, and I like that. Detention takes place in a Taiwanese school set in the 1960's where censorship and martial law were in place. You start as Wei, a male student who falls asleep in his teachers class. You see the female teacher being questioned by an Instructor Bai who wants to talk to her away from the pupils. When Wei wakes up, the entire class is gone and the school is dark with pouring rain outside. He searches the school and finds a female student, Ray, in the auditorium looking asleep on the chair. He wakes her up and they both go looking for a way out of the school. A typhoon has swept the bridge away and they cannot leave the school grounds, so Wei says that he will go look for the radio in the Principals Office. Ray falls asleep and finds herself back in the auditorium with Wei hanging by his ankles and quite dead. Thus begins Ray's journey into the hellscape that the school has become, with demons called 'Lingered' wandering the halls. The game itself presents itself in a very washed out 2D perspective, the characters looking almost like silhouettes cut out of paper. The only comparison I can give is to a game called The Cat Lady, very similar in style and tone although wildly different settings. It has a disturbing atmosphere that is accentuated with the sounds and general soundtrack of eerie creaks and whistling that occurs. You progress by finding certain items and trying to piece together why you are here in this place. At certain points, there will be a chase with an entity that tries to capture you and you will move to a new area or place in the school, or beyond. The puzzles aren't overly complicated, but remembering piano tone keys when you are tone deaf can be quite challenging. The experience is a short but succint look into a completely different culture and timeframe, where you almost can't believe that it existed. I know I'm not that old, but martial law and censorship hasn't really been truly around for a long time, so to find out that the 'White Terror' period in Taiwan lasted until 1988 still fascinates me. Trophy wise, the game is very simple, it only has 3 missable trophies, the rest are to do with the story. The main one which will cause issue, is the collecting of all the notes. If you miss one from an earlier chapter, the chapter select will not register you picking the missing ones up. You will have to complete the collectibles in one playthrough. It should only take about 3 hours, but still a little bit annoying to be honest. Truly, this game has a setting that has been mimicked time and time again. What makes this different to me is that the story is quite simple and doesn't over complicate matters about existentionalism or life after death or making the game overtly creepy or gory. It tells the story based off true events and what was real at the time and has a bittersweet yet believable narrative woven with the supernatural elements. Popular Post MarkusT1992
I'm again missing two reviews so here they are, Game #5: Star Ocean: First Departure R First Departure R is the remake of the first Star Ocean game originally released on the SNES. Before this version there also was First Departure without the R for the PSP. Also the First Departure versions changed some things compared to the SNES version like city layouts. The game starts in a small town whose name I forgott if it had any. Roddick, the character you play, is a member of the town patrol unit. Together with the other two members you protect the town but nothing really happens ever until to the day the game starts. Some bandits attack the town and you fight them off. The next day you have a meeting with the leader of your unit, an older man, and learn about a mysterious disease that turns people into stone that appeared in a neighbour town. Naturally you want to go investigate but are stopped by the father of one of the other members who is going himselfe. A few days pass and he still isn't back so your friend wants to go after her father alone. In the end all three of you go. Arriving in the neighbour town and finding her father you learn that he got infected and is turning in stone soon. There supposedly is a herb that can heal every disease on Mt. Metorx so you head that way to get the herb. On the summit you find that herb but get interrupted by two people that teleported right infront of them. They both are from the Terran Allience and tell Roddick and his crew taht the disease was brought to the plant by an alien race that collects the stone turned people. All of them then return to their ship and try to find a cure. Did I mention that one of your friend got infected as well. It'a a diseas that transfers by a single touch. Later we learn that the only cure is a long dead creature. That sucks obviously. The only way to get that cure is to find this creature and to only way to do this is to go back in time what they do. The battle system is active but in a seperate battle screen. You can walk freely in battle and attack. I don't know if you can block or not yet. So far I havn't found a way. Your allies act on their own but you can play as them as well if you want. With and you can use a special attack. In the first battle I didn't know that I can move so I was just standing around and watch the others do everything. That's where one of the most annoying parts of the game comes in play. Not only does the game not tell you how to fight, it doesn't tell you anything. You don't have a questlog or any other hint what to do. At the beginning for example You progress after entering a house after talking to the right person. That leads to you running around towns several times to find the next trigger for the next story part. I already was out of the town and on my way to other locations on the world map before deciding to go back. Then I entered a house again and the story continued. I know that you didn't have quest logs in SNES game but the could have added something in the remaster. Time played: Around 2-3 hours Trophies: 2/37 Rating: Game #6: Onrush Onrush is a racing game unlike other "normal" racing games. It's kind of a hybrid between racing and demolition derby. The games has 4 different kind of races and I'm going to describe all of them briefly a bit later. But first comes the overall gameplay. During the races you have differnt goals depending on the type of the race. You always play in a team against another team. If playing alone they all are bots but you can play in multiplayer. Then you have grey cars called cannonfodder that are destroyed easy and refill your boost. You can use your boost by pressing and that's what you should do most of the time. Boosting across the map whil destroying the cannonfodder to refill your boost. Boosting also fills up your your rush meter. With rush at 100% you can activate it which gives a boost to your speed and depending on your car a buff. It also is easier to destoy the other team's cars during a rush. That being said you have 8 cars to choose from but most events limit you to a few cars. Destroying enemies or jumping over ramps also refills your boost. The first is Overdrive: In this mode you have to earn points by using boost and rush as much as possible. I'm not quite sure if destroying enemies also gives you points or not but it could be. The second is Countdown: In this mode you both teams have a time running down. You have to refill it by driving through checkpoints which you also can miss. The team whose time reaches 0 looses. The third is Lockdown: In this mode a zone is appearing and going around the map and you have to conquer it by driving in the zone. You need mor people of your team in the zone than the other team has and stay in the zone for 5 second to conquer it. The last one is Switch: In this mode you start with motorbikes. After you get destroyed you switch to the next class of cars. You have three switches which act as lives. After you reach the last class of cars you can't switch anymore but can still respawn after being destroyed. You goal is to deplete all the switches from the oppenents. And thats basically all there is. There is a story mode that leads you from event to event and tells a bit how this "sport" was created and how it developped. You can customize your cars with skins as well as your character and your crashtag but in singleplayer there is no real point to do so. Surprisingly I enjoyed the game a lot. During the races you have some additional task to do like destroying a specific amount of cars and getting everything done is starting to get harde now after completing three events out of five or six. Time played: The game says around 3 hours but I think it should be more Trophies: 18/33 Rating: Start of event stats Games played: 287 Completed games: 168 Unearned trophies: 3730 Completion %: 64.17% End of event stats Games played: 293 Completed games: 169 Unearned trophies: 3873 Completion %: 63.29% I played and completed Assassin's Creed Liberation during this event so that's the one completed game. I lost 0.88% and got 143 new unearned trophies, so it wasn't too bad. I got 57 new trophies in March which is more than the previous months. Popular Post PerryToxteth
KYC 15 Game No. 10 Playing Time: 2 hours Trophies Earned: 7/26 (26% D ranking) Final Thoughts: So I didn’t get as much time as I wanted to with this one, but for good reason - I got a COVID vaccine! Crazy that it seems like it’s “survival of the fastest internet” but no apologies here! I had to drive over an hour on Tuesday to get my first dose but so glad I scored a vaccine, especially that numbers are spiking in my state. I sincerely hope that you all will be eligible soon and will have ready access to a vaccine!! As for the game, Ken Follett’s Pillars of the Earth is a game based on - wait for it - the book, Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett! I read this book many, many years ago based on a recommendation from my wife. It can be categorized as Historical Fiction, though it is more fiction than historical. It takes during the time of the Anarchy in 12th century England. Quick history recap: King Henry I, William the Conqueror’s grandson, lost his only male heir when his ship sunk in the English Channel. Henry’s daughter, Empress Matilda, had a big brawl with her uncle Stephen for a few decades before it was decided that Matilda’s son, Henry II would become king. What is really cool is that Henry II had two of the most powerful women in English history in his life. His mother Matilda, and his wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine (Richard the Lionhearted’s Mom). At a time when most Queens were expected only to procreate, these two women wielded some pretty serious power. Read Dan Jones’ terrific books for more info! Sorry about that - back to the game! It’s a point-and-click that centers on a variety of characters from the book. None of the characters are based on actual historical people, but they are a mix of what you would find in medieval England; journeyman worker and family, clergymen, minor nobility, etc., etc. Each of the characters’ chapters are stand alone’s at the outset, but eventually they will intertwine at some point in the novel. I was only able to get through the Prologue and Chapter One but even though I read the book 10+ years ago, I easily remembered some of the characters. Follett is a good writer and can really weave a traumatic tale when needed, and there are a few incidents in this book I still haven’t forgotten about. One happens in the Prologue and I thought the game developers handled it well, though it wasn’t anywhere close to as emotional as the book. That’s okay though, this is a video game, right? After finishing Chapter 1, I realized I had missed two trophies. Turns out the game is like so many in the point-and-click genre. If you don’t respond to every question accurately, or miss speaking to someone at a certain time, you will negate the trophy requirements. I went back and earned those trophies but going forward, I am going to use a guide. I figure I already read the book so a walkthrough isn’t going to spoil anything. In conclusion, this feels like it’s going to be a great game. It has a fantastic story to work with, and so far the developers have done really well. It is a 900+ page book though, so I am curious what characters and/or side stories get cut. The trophies seem a bit odd too. You can earn eight trophies in Chapter 1, but then there are only four trophies for Chapters 8-21. What the??? Grade: - Wrap-up coming soon!
Popular Post PerryToxteth
KYC 15 Wrap-Up I haven’t done 10 games for awhile in one of these events. Frankly, I’m exhausted! Thankfully, I picked some good games so I’ve got plenty to do in the next few months. Here’s the rundown: 1. Sudden Strike 4: Might be the best military strategy game on the PS4. 2. Peaky Blinders: Odd puzzle game with the use of rewinding time, but it’s been fun. And I’ve almost finished the first season on Netflix and that deserves a as well! 3. Ken Follett’s Pillars of the Earth: Point-and-click in 12th century England. So far, it’s honored the book very well. 4. LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7: Great game in co-op. Be prepared for collectible craziness. 5. Concrete Genie: Seems like decent fare from a recent PS+. No chance of getting 100% without VR. 6. Far Cry 5: I am sure I will eventually like it. Pretty rare that Ubisoft lets me down. 7. A Tale of Paper: Not as polished version of Unravel. But with much easier trophies. 8. Garfield Kart Furious Racing: A pretty ho-hum Kart game. 9. Irony Curtain: Didn’t get enough time to give a proper review. Incomplete Which means, my KYC ? Award goes to......Snow Moto Racing Freedom! To be honest, I don’t think I had a turd-worthy game on my list. This game is alright. There’s just better racers out there. KYC 15 (pre-KYC) Games Played/ Completed - 172/123 (162/123) Trophies Earned - 5613 (5518) Unearned Trophies - 950 (655) Completion % - 85.84 (89.98) Completion drop - 4.14% As for my stats, this KYC really eviscerated my completion percentage and unearned trophies. I don’t think my unearned trophy number has hovered near 1000 since I joined this site! But it’s been fun! Great participants this month and thank you to everybody on some great reviews! And as always, a big thank you to @voodoo_eyes for hosting! We will see you in July, my friend! Edited April 2, 2021 by PerryToxteth
Popular Post Psy-Tychist
Sci-Fi Anime with some fighting involved Trophies Earned: 5/43 Percent Complete: 7% Completion Percentage: 65.93% + 0.11% Fighting Matches Completed: 0 This was a little unusual as I never got into the actual fighting so much. As such, this will be quite a small review and a little disappointing overall. Guilty Gear has been going on for a while now, celebrating 20 years in the EU market as of last year but I've never played any of the series before. The style is very much like Skullgirls or the BlazBlue series with hand drawn sprites with intricate movements in the traditional anime-style. Very pretty to look at and visually a feast for the eyes, the characters and the movements are smooth and interesting. That unfortunately is all I know on it. I played the tutorial to get a base understanding of how to play, but unfortunately it isn't really in depth enough for me to come away from it with any great confidence that I would even complete the story mode, let alone compete online. I never finished the tutorial, because it doesn't give you a great deal of instruction on how to perform base combos with the instructed buttons. It just implies that you can create combos enough to complete each section, but with no direct guidance. I started the Story Mode, but I didn't get to any fighting as of yet. I saw about 10 or so minutes of cutscenes without any indication there would be any combat and haven't gone back to it enough to see how much further I need to go to get into a match. Trophy-wise, this will be a pain to complete. There are so many online trophies and there was literally no-one online. I stayed in the lobby for over ten minutes waiting for just one person to show up with no joy at all. I made coffee and a sandwich with not even a flicker of online connectivity. This will be a slog to get anywhere close to completion for me. Overall, I only have superficial information about the game, mostly on how it looks and sounds. From the little I've seen, it has an interesting backstory and style with some great background tunes. Will have to try more of the game later on. Gretchen27
Double Pack of Final Reviews BONUS For the late posting: Wrap-Up Life, what can you do when there's no pause button? At least, I did get to play my listed games. Final Fantasy X-III I'm tired of the over saturated Troy Baker voice acting appearances. Playtime: 2hrs, 30min Trophies: 2/36 (2% complete) Enjoyment: 8/10 FF games don't need introductions. If you don't know the gist of them, pick a number 1-15, then start one up. What I will comment on is how stunning, graphics wise, this 11yr old game has been. It's age really only shows in the font, that slanted Spider-Man/PS3 one. Other than that, it's held up great. It starts off strong with an action packed scene. -You'll have to excuse my further descriptions. The game seems to do the telling via required reading in the menu. & as you can probably guess by my playtime, I haven't read it yet. - Lightning & Sazh (the comic relief character with a chocobo chick nesting in his afro) are on a monorail heading towards a not so happy place. I gather there's some kind of alien invasion or maybe an infection going on outside, & percentages of the population are to be curbed. Lightning sneaked on board with Sazh because both have agendas in this place, conflicting ones though. In the opening cut scenes, as Lightning is wiping the floor with the train guards, a flying shark mech enters the fray. This FF seems more sci-fi than fantasy world, which I'm happy with. Anyway, a funny scene happens when the mech tears into the carriage. Sazh shouts, "Run!" Lightning runs toward the danger. & staring dumbfounded, Sazh adds a helpful, "I meant away." He's had several gem quality quips like this. Quickly earning him points to favorite character in this game, but it's still early. The game drops you into the combat tutorial here. It's the not so fun real time while searching through list menus for attack commands. Right now I'm only able to control Lightning for her story highlight (I'll explain that in a minute), with 2 different attack options, so the imposing built up fight was easy. I expect more will come with progression, & with it more of a strategy aspect planning along enemy weaknesses. Sazh is an NPC for the moment (hopefully), contributing better than the average for fights. Maps are linear walkways through the facility with a sprinkling of automatically jumping over debris blocked sections. Along the way, you can find floating orbs containing items. & as this is a FF game, I did take a glance at the missable section of the trophy guide. Those items seem to be the only collectibles I need to look out for, so I downloaded the checklist. 80hrs once is enough for me. I've got other games to get to after all. Back to the story: as the pair are making their way through this facility, the viewpoint actually switches & you're taken across to play as another character. He's biker meets beanie wearing punk, voiced by - if you already read my subtitle, you know- Troy Baker. Oh, joy (read that sarcastically). This dressed in white man is cleverly called Snow. Also, forgot to mention, Lightning has an electric force field device around her body (imaginative much? These better be codenames). Snow is there with a rebel group to fight whomever is gathering all these people up for the slaughter. Intersecting directly with Snow's story, though entering spoiler territory to explain, the main viewpoint has just switched to a child character. Who is also now fighting. It's FF, anyone can just pick up a weapon with a motive & wreck some enemies. That's pretty much what's been going on in the prologue through chapter 1. I know there's a lot to go, I've only seen the tip of the iceberg. Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time Modern games have spoiled me. Playtime: 3hrs Trophies: 5/50 (7% complete) Enjoyment: 6/10 Sly Cooper is an adventure game that's - insert your favorite heisting movie meets wibbly-wobbly time travel, all neatly wrapped in a family friendly way. The titular character is a thieving anthropomorphic raccoon that comes from a prestigious line of thieves. Though they only steal from other thieves...& keep it for themselves? I really don't know, haven't gotten that far into the back story. I'll mark it a half Robin Hood thing for now. Anyway, currently Sly is trying his hand at a grift in the name of love. Playing an amnesiac for his girlfriend, who is some top agent that's been hunting him for years. I'll give the cops & robbers trope there a pass, as I admittedly like it. But the antebellum is tested when Sly starts getting the itch to steal again, & risk blowing the couple's happiness. That teeters right over the edge when Bentley, the old heisting team's wheelchair bound brainiac/quartermaster turtle starts noticing Sly's family thieving compendium is starting to fade. Almost as if history is being rewritten. Oh, & his girlfriend disappears into thin air. I put that in order of importance, right? Well, no worries, Bentley just so happened to be working on a time travel machine. All it needs is a reference piece from the time period you want to reach. & it also just so happens, the perfect artifact can be found in the place Sly had the urge to steal from. It's time to get the gang back together. In comes Murray, the hippo Wheelman. You get to play as each character for certain sections of the tutorial heist. Each has special abilities: Sly is limber for platforming & pick-pocketing, Bentley can throw bombs & do hacking through a top-down tank mini game, Murray doubles as the driver & muscle, punching his way through enemies & obstacles. They retrieved the artifact & headed back in time. Of course, Sly's agent girlfriend found out they were back to stealing before they left. It's okay though, that's what a time machine is for. Arriving at their first point in time, feudal Japan, they find their suspicions were correct, someone else is playing with time. I'd put money down they used Bentley's time machine at a later date & that's how this all started. The first correction is to rescue Sly's ancestor from imprisonment, then get his sushi restaurant back up & running. Now this is where the game opens up, literally. There's a generous map to explore of the village, & it's packed with points to explore, respawning enemies to steal/defeat, & items to collect. But this is also where my enjoyment gets tempered by modern open worlds. Playing on the Vita, the world feels cramped. Building & character models are disproportionate, the camera does its best, but it's not the best. I feel like I can play this in short burst, long periods though & I might get a headache. I like the light humor storytelling though, & the general cut scene styles. There's plenty to explore & collect that I've been too distracted to play the story. It's a nice, chill game. Not sure yet if the collectibles will be a pain or if I'm willing to play the series from the beginning. Time will tell. Wrap up Completion Percent: 86.54% (-1.89%) Games Played: 189 (+5) Completed Games: 143 (+1) Unearned Trophies: 991 (1,059 with DLC) +149 Even going for the minimum number of games to start, I feel off the wagon near the end. But I'm glad I was able to start up these titles. Now I get to pit them against one another! 1. Muv-Luv My favorite this round may come as somewhat of a surprise considering my short playtime & doting on Danganronpa, but this VN is a joy to read. Dark humor doesn't always win out. Screenshot: Spoiler 2. Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc A close contender for first, I almost was going to claim both deserving of the spot. Now I need to hunt down the sequels. I know the collection has been released on PS4, but I'd rather have it physical on Vita, & finding reasonably priced copies of those are going to be a Monokuma. Screenshots: Spoiler 3. Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time Like the ones above, I've gone back to play this for the fun of it. 4. Final Fantasy X-III Not enough playtime & sparse back story so far bumped this one nearer the end. I haven't been back to play it since my chosen days. No screenshots to share for a PS3 game. 5. Dark Rose Valkyrie The one with the most playtime hits the bottom of the rankings. I logged the most time here because RPGs are my go to, & this was right there loaded up. Not because it's engaging. Screenshots: Spoiler @voodoo_eyes Thank you for continually hosting KYC! I don't know when I'd start some of these games without it. Or find some new ones for that matter. Catching my interest this round was: Vita Pets & Deponia. Maybe I’ll add more to that later. I’ve got reviews to catch up on. Edited April 11, 2021 by Gretchen27

I might have to watch a bit of a playthrough before deciding if I'd be better off switching to the much cheaper PS4 versions.

I will agree though that the spinoff is not worth the time looking into and was pretty much a waste of time to play.
voodoo_eyes
So I've goten the plat for Cyberdimension Neptunia by now. Took way longer than the guide indicated and was a lot more boring than I thought it would be initially. This game has some major issues, not only the recycling of hte bosses, but the bug that may get you stuck in the environment when a boss hits you. That means no doding and considering some of hte boss attacks can one-shot you, if you don't get out of the way, it's a major pain in the ass. It happend at least a dozen times across several bosses, which meant certain death and buying new items and going through the dungeon again to get to the boss for anotehr attempt. I also went back to another game I played during KYC 11, which was Hitman Blood Money. I remain by my rating for that game ( ) although it became a little less enjoyable due to the dated controls and occasional poor hit detection/clipping.

I will agree though that the spinoff is not worth the time looking into and was pretty much a waste of time to play. I mostly agree with this. The second game is the worst of the three to me, but the third is the best to me. I'd say play them all and form your own opinions because which games are better than others depends a lot of which cast and protag you like best. Now trophy wise, it is indeed true that the plats get more annoying and the 3rd game has a very annoying plat to get with it taking longer to wrap up the post game stuff than it takes to beat the game. Anyway, I wrapped up Trials of Mana and it ended up taking a bit less time than the guide indicates (about 37 hours for me when the guide says 40, but usually I go over by 10+ hours from guide estimates). Three playthroughs was definitely too much for that game because unless you purposely skip using a character or two, there's really very little new content to that third run outside of a different final boss and pre-final dungeon. That last playthrough was a complete waste of about 5 hours of my time. The game has decent enough content for two runs. Overall, it was decent enough but there are way better action RPGs out there. Still, it was nice to see Square/Enix actually not ruin the game like they did Secret of Mana, so maybe the Legend of Mana remaster has some hope to be decent enough. Currently chipping away at Labyrinth of Refrain and so far it's just more of the same, really bland and tedious at best.
Maddawgmax
I was in the very first edition of this. I failed miserably. One of these days I'm going to have to try it one last time to redeem myself. I do rememeber my Sherlock Holmes game broke on me and wouldn't work and I couldn't get a replacement copy. I think I just got pissed and quit doing the rest.
