Popular Post TheWayne-o
Hi all, I have an idea for a new contest of sorts and just wanted to gauge the level of interest before making it an official thing. Basically it's a competition for Australian members of the PSNP community that spans a full year as a 'season'. Points will be awarded at specific intervals throughout the season (some monthly and some less frequently, see below for a full breakdown of proposed categories) and the member who has accumulated the most points at the end of the season is declared the winner. The winner, or perhaps a top 3 if we get enough contestants, will receive a prize (I was thinking a custom trophy for their signature, something like "The Great Australian Trophy Hunt Champion - Season 1". If I don't get enough interest from the Australian community then maybe we could do a worldwide competition and have a few different divisions for a country or region? This would require some extra people to look after each division. The competition will begin at 12:00am 1st January 2016 and end 11:59pm 31st December 2016. Scores will be updated a few days into each month, however the stats used to earn points will have a cut-off at the end of each month (i.e the first update will be in early February but only stats until 11:59pm 31st January will be considered for scoring points). This allows people some time to update their profile ready for score updates. To be eligible to enter you must: be Australian, have no hidden games on your profile (as this will skew some stats that will be used for scoring) (see below for update**) and only have one player using your PSN ID (this will be tough to prove so as long as you don't have something like 500 games earning 7 trophies each day consistently then you should be okay). Scoring: There are a total of 9 categories that will earn the contestants points, as mentioned above some will awarded monthly and others less frequently. I also thought that it'd be interesting if the last 3 months were 'blind rounds', i.e. the scores will be updated with ?s for October, November and December with a big end of season reveal of the final standings and crowning of champion(s). In the event of a tie (where possible) for scoring positions, all contestants that tie for the position will be awarded points associated with that position (i.e 3 people can be awarded 1st place in that category and so on). Games that have multiple trophy lists can be used to earn points with the exception of games that auto-pop trophies from save data of other versions. Anybody that is found to be hacking/cheating will be disqualified and removed from the competition. Contestants can sign up at any time, however they will only be added in at the next update and will receive a score of 0 for all previous updates. The contestant with the highest points tally after adding up all the points earned from the below categories will be declared the champion. Anyway, here are the 9 ways to score points: Bronze Trophies = at the end of each month points will be awarded to the 3 contestants that earned the highest number of bronze trophies for that month, 3 points for the highest, 2 points for the second highest and 1 point for the third highest. Silver Trophies = at the end of each month points will be awarded to the 3 contestants that earned the highest number of silver trophies for that month, 3 points for the highest, 2 points for the second highest and 1 point for the third highest. Gold Trophies = at the end of each month points will be awarded to the 3 contestants that earned the highest number of gold trophies for that month, 3 points for the highest, 2 points for the second highest and 1 point for the third highest. Platinum Trophies = at the end of each month points will be awarded to the 3 contestants that earned the highest number of platinum trophies for that month, 3 points for the highest, 2 points for the second highest and 1 point for the third highest. Game Completion % = every 3 months each contestants average game completion percentage will be compared with their game completion percentage from the previous update and the highest increase (or lowest decrease if less than 3 contestant's goes up) will be awarded 15 points, second highest increase/lowest decrease will be awarded 10 points and third highest increase/lowest decrease will be award 5 points. Average Rarity = every 3 months each contestants average rarity will be compared with their average rarity from the previous update and the highest decrease (or lowest increase if less than 3 contestants goes down) will be awarded 15 points, second highest decrease/lowest increase will be awarded 10 points and third highest decrease/lowest increase will be award 5 points. MVP = every 3 months each contestant will vote for an MVP, how a contestant determines who they will vote for will be completely up to them (you can't vote for yourself). Maybe someone has contributed to the thread the most, maybe they've had an impressive few months for number or trophies earned or maybe they've earned an ultra rare platinum or two that you could only dream of achieving? The contestant with the most votes will be awarded 15 points, second most votes will be awarded 10 points and third most votes will be award 5 points. Backlog Challenge = each contestant can nominate 6 games from their backlog (because we all suffer from this dreaded curse ) that they plan to play throughout the season and earn points for completing them. Once you have named your 6 choices you won't be able to change them so pick carefully, choices must be submitted by the commencement of the competition. To be eligible for this category games must: not have been started by the contestant prior to the commencement of this competition (so it must not appear on your profile), the game must have been released prior to 31st December 2014 (it can be on any platform) and the game must have a platinum trophy (it can be a retail or digital release). Points are awarded for obtaining the platinum trophy only, each contestant will be awarded 20 points for an ultra rare platinum, 15 points for a very rare platinum, 12 points for a rare platinum, 9 points for an uncommon platinum and 5 points for a common platinum. Platinum rarity will be taken from the date that the next update occurs. Total PSNP Points Earned for the Season = this category is awarded at the end of the season for a final points grab before the champions(s) is/are crowned and is a one-off. At 11:59pm 31st December, the total PSNP points earned by each contestant will be calculated (the points as shown on this site, i.e. 15 points per bronze, 30 points per silver, 90 points per gold and 180 points per platinum). The contestant with the highest points tally as a result of earning trophies throughout the season will be awarded 100 points, second highest tally will be awarded 75 points, third highest tally will be awarded 50 points and fourth highest tally will be awarded 25 points. **Update: a contestant can have hidden trophies. However they must disclose the trophies that have been hidden prior to the commencement of the competition (i.e. 4 x bronze and 1 x silver for game X). If the number of hidden trophies changes during the course of the competition then the contestant will be disqualified from the completion and rarity categories, any points earned from these categories to date will be stripped and a review will take place so the points can be re-allocated. So let me know if you'd be interested in participating in this competition and we can go from there. Is it a good idea for a competition or is it so terrible that I should drop the idea immediately? Any and all feedback is welcome so the idea can be refined and improved If we go ahead with this competition then I will need some help organising a banner, custom trophy/trophies as prizes and advice on the best way to upload the spreadsheet of current scores (it's probably best to just attach the file to the thread but are there any other options so people can quickly and easily see the scores?). Lightning_0608
I'm in but I have a handful of hidden trophies, so can you please explain how hidden trophies can affect the stats you'll be using from this site? I'm okay with unhiding them, I just would like to know why first lol

I'm okay with unhiding them, I just would like to know why first lol It mostly affects the completion percentage but i see you have only hidden 11 trophies so it wouldn't make much of a difference in your case. TheWayne-o
I was going to join but I've got hidden trophies so I'm out. No problems feral611, you can always join up later if you change your mind. This sounds great Wayne. Very well thought out. I would definitely be interested in joining Thanks cjshaitan, welcome to the contest! Sounds great, I'll join Added, welcome to the contest The Three Stooges! I might give this a go. As long as i don't have to do the adding up Guess i wont get any points for the backlog challenge haha Thanks Gibbo_0113, I tried to incorporate a few ideas so even people who don't play every day can still be competitive with the completion, rarity and mvp categories. Nah I'll do all the adding up for the scoring, well the spreadsheet will do it but I'll take the credit . For the backlog challenge, you can nominate games from 2014 or earlier that you don't currently own but plan on buying and playing throughout the season so you still might be able to get something out of it. I'm in but I have a handful of hidden trophies, so can you please explain how hidden trophies can affect the stats you'll be using from this site? I'm okay with unhiding them, I just would like to know why first lol By hiding trophies, PSNP adjusts you completion and rarity accordingly. So if people were to un-hide trophies before an update, it could potentially give them an unfair advantage by boosting either statistic. I'm not going to be going through everyone's profiles (if they're hidden trophies) and recording all the games listed on your profile prior to the competition so I can work out which trophies people hide/un-hide during the competition.
patrickogorman19
I would love to join but this is a disadvantage for people like me who don't have many games. If someone just bought 100 games than they are already have a step ahead of everyone.
Jeygopi
Hey Wayno, I'm from Australia, I'd be interested in this, had a read of everything I agree a bit with I would love to join but this is a disadvantage for people like me who don't have many games. If someone just bought 100 games than they are already have a step ahead of everyone. I don't personally have this problem, but people who may not have that many things in their backlog, or a lot of games in general might suffer from this issue, there's a possible 120 points alone from the backlog games if you plat all 6, which is very possible, I think something needs to be done to fix that,Also, if you need help with a banner I can help, if you pm me I can show you my previous work, Thanks for organizing this

TheWayne-o
I would love to join but this is a disadvantage for people like me who don't have many games. If someone just bought 100 games than they are already have a step ahead of everyone. I personally don't see it as a massive disadvantage, yeah sure some of the people competing may have a large pile of games to play but if they add too many to their profile then they're hurting their chances at the completion category and potentially the rarity category if they only get easy trophies for a lot of games instead of going to harder trophies on fewer games. The mvp category isn't necessarily related to the shear amount of trophies you earn and also the backlog challenge only allows 6 games so if you achieve 6 ultra rare or very rare platinums then you're still in with a chance. I personally only have a record of 0.91 trophies per day which is less than 30 trophies a month, which equals finishing less than 1 game per month in most cases so worst case scenario for you is that you're competing with me at the bottom for the wooden spoon . Hope to see you sign up patrickogorman19! Thanks for the offer, I would definitely like to see some of your work. I will pm you later regarding this. Come on.. Why Australia only? At this stage it's Australians only but if there is enough interest from others then maybe I could get someone else to help create another division for other countries/regions. Not Australian, but I did live there in 2006, does that count? Well I'm sure us Aussies can come up with some sort of test to determine your eligibility, how do you feel about eating a jar of Vegemite?

It's a nice little trick that we like to play on foreigners because nobody (well at least nobody I know) eats it like that. Tim Tams are excellent! I though that we started exporting those ages ago, selling them to the US seems like a no-brainer. You can count me in! Added, welcome to the contest bwt1088! Not at all. If a contestant provides a list of games and the number of trophies for each game they have hidden then it could work, that way both yourself and feral611 can enter. Although it does create extra work and would rely upon contestants being completely honest by providing accurate information and not hiding or un-hiding trophies throughout the season. Also by allowing it then it opens the door for contestants to hide trophies before the season commences to alter statistics. I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks about this, I'm still on the side of no hidden trophies as it's nice and clean.

I though that we started exporting those ages ago, selling them to the US seems like a no-brainer. Nah, we were close (like almost more than friends), she wouldn't do that to me. If my memory serves, she spread it on toast, but it was still pretty awful. And tim tams are so awesome, but I have not seen them here anywhere. One of my coworkers is Australian and whenever she goes home to visit she comes back with a few packs of em. You would think that in a country like the US where everyone is obese and loves sweets that you'd be able to find such a delicious treat.
