Your Next Game - The Lottery 3 (event closed)

Recommended Posts

You need to do a 4th one or else that lovely spot your holding for me will vanish forever haha. I'm in the same boat with you though. Had ten people in mine and only 4 real people being active. It's tough to keep going but even with this being the third installment, it's getting more views/replies than mine and that counts for something:)

As for not having a good time; it's more actually on the contrary, really. I feel like I'm the only one having a good time. Like I'm at a party, drinking and dancing by myself in the middle of the room and everyone else is sitting silent in their chairs, with their faces glued to their phones, texting and Facebooking.

I am enjoying your party, effdeegee! Sure, I have got my face glued to my phone, but only because that's how I check the forums.

To be honest, I forgot you offered prizes. I think the event would be fun d enough without them. I have been enjoying these events since the first one, hoping to be able to join after the wedding.

Ultimately, as the host, it's up to you whether you will run the event again or not, but I am hopeful. Goodness knows, The Lottery has sparked a lot of life in this part of the forum. Regardless of whether or not it continues, it has already left a positive mark. But I am hoping for more seasons!

Assignment is handed in, YouTube subscription box is overflowing with unwatched videos - time to begin playing FFX! xD

...After I reply to things again :P

Good luck with your school assignment and hopefully you won't be too stressed out soon.

For the 99,000 damage trophy I would recommend using Bahamut's Megaflare as that allows the trophy to pop before you acquire Celestial Weapons for your crew. Unfortunately my Auron was a bit overpowered with a fully-powered Masamune and he killed the final Seymour in one hit, making it an anti-climatic boss fight. One problem with FFX is the leveling system as it's a double-edged sword; it allows for free character customization in terms of their skills, but it's difficult to tell just how strong a character is until they're in combat. As for Level 3 Key Spheres, I think there was an enemy in Zanarkand that rarely dropped it and it might as well be a good place to farm levels and a few of those spheres. Good purchases there and it's interesting to see how Murdered: Soul Suspect is as the swan song for that development studio.

I've played a bit more of Dynasty Warriors 8 and I'll get into spoilers in a bit. Kitty is right in that the game becomes easier as you level up as the last three battles I had were was easier than the beginning chapters. Another thing I noticed about the game is how Koei Tecmo has hired some veteran voice actors as aside from Kyle Hebert providing his talents we also have Vic Mignogna voicing Jia Xu, a crafty tactician who uses a sweet sickle. I've gotten a bit more accustomed to horse combat as there was an escort mission that started off on a horse and I decided to do most of the mission like that. Luckily I noticed that horses provide good shielding against ballistae and I could ride to destroy them without getting flinched to death. Now I'll get into the bit of the story that I did get to.

As mentioned before there's an escort mission and that was to lead the Emperor away from Lu Bu, who became a pushover and was easily defeated rather than a force that one-hit killed me. Cao Cao gained the trust of the Emperor after proclaiming his ambition to end the chaotic feuding, which led to some lords becoming alert of Cao's progress. In the next chapter Dian Wei got fatally injured while protecting Cao, giving Wei a pretty good sendoff as he did show loyalty in protecting his lord over his own skin. Jia Xu was the tactician behind Wei's death yet Cao recruited him for his intelligence, yet was unwilling to show the same fortune to Lu Bu later.

I'll aim to do a few more chapters on Sunday and maybe even finish up the core of Wei's story then or by Monday. For now I'm 5/41 in regards to trophies.

Thank you!! It's handed in so it's all good now ^_^

Currently for Bahamut I think I'm doing ~20,000 so so I think I have a fair bit to go before I'll do 99,999 damage xD that sounds insane! I need to find a way to get those weapons soon, but I'm avoiding looking for anything online so I don't encounter spoilers. I both love and hate the sphere grid because of the reasons you listed, I've also realised that I don't have any spheres to unlock luck spheres so I have quite a few just sitting there unused . I remember hearing about the studio who worked on Murdered: Soul Suspect, it doesn't really instill much confidence tbh :P

Finished up the Wei story in Dynasty Warriors 8 and I guess I'll go into the climax of the story.

Wang Yi was okay to play as but she really didn't have anything to stand out from the crowd. Cao Cao wanted to speak to an old friend but I wasn't able to distract an officer, so maybe a future retry will rectify that. One noteworthy scene was when Xu Chu protected Cao and managed to handle himself against the enemy general. The next chapter started with a weary Guo Jia and the disease has shown its effects. It was the first time I played as Li Dian and he felt easier to play than Yue Jin. The penultimate battle has been the highlight so far as Zhang He stole the show; he's flamboyant and has a similar aura of narcissism like Street Fighter's Vega. Zhang's Musuo Rage attack can have him sprout butterfly like wings and drill through the enemies when landing back. When Zhang strikes with his claws it looks a bit like he's dancing to the rhythm of his strikes and that's pretty neat. Unfortunately I let Xiahou Yuan die, whoops. In the final battle I did manage to save Pang De and I was motivated to do so by the speech he gave about his willingness to fight and not to fear death, all while carrying a casket. The stage was pretty unique as there was a moat and Guan Yu, the God of War of that generation, died and sprouted a green beam of light towards heaven. Back home Cao Cao told his son Cao Pi to carry on his legacy as Cao's generation is coming close to ending and soon he'll join Liu Bei in the twilight years.

Cao Cao seemed to face retribution from his former allies for his quest for peace yet won't be able to meet that goal during his lifetime. It's a nice parallel to Oda Nobunaga's campaign and I do wonder if DW8: Xtreme Legends continues on from Cao Pi's perspective. Hopefully the other campaigns are just as good and I'll continue on from the perspective of Cao's main rival, Liu Bei.

Quoting this because there's something I want to point out about Wei's 'Battle of Tong Gate':

That's where you get Wang Yi's 5th weapon by reaching the farthest area of the enemy camp in 8 minutes - when Cao Cao meets up with Han Sui (I think) and Pang De goes to see what's happening, fail in distracting him to make it easier. I think in the videos I linked to at the bottom of the weapon trophy it says this, but I thought I would reiterate it for when you go to get it xD

Also, as far as I'm aware Xtreme Legends adds more characters, a story line for Lu Bu and more things to do when you complete the Tongquetai in Ambition Mode so I don't think there's more to Wei's historical route (which sucks, because despite them tying for the most battles in story mode I wish that the historical route delved deeper into their story). Also the parallel between Cao Cao and Liu Bei is one of my favourite things about the series, I hope you're enjoying the game! ^_^

*snip!*

Just from watching it from the first lottery, even though I know that you've talked about this before, a solution to this might be introducing a minimum post requirement (like minimum of 50/100 posts for someone who wishes to join) - I think it might isolate some people who would love to join, but at least you know that they'll post in a timely manner. The prizes are cool but I like just being able to play a game that I wouldn't have considered in the past, and you could make it bi-annual to increase the hype? If these are silly suggestions feel free to ignore me xD

(Also, in case it's not coming across - I'm totally having fun! I don't drink/dance so I'm not on the dancefloor with you but I'm having a blast sitting in the corner on my Vita :P)

I managed to play some more of FFX when I came home last night:

I reached Zanarkand (yay!) and Rikku and Yuna had a really sweet moment (awww), reached Yunalesca (booo) and defeated her (fuck mega death tbh) and I unlocked the airship. I'm currently returning to the different areas of Spira to pick up on the things that I've missed and collect some creatures for the guy at the Grassy Plains, so I may be roaming around for a while xD

I'm going to return to my exploring now and hopefully when I'm done I'll make my way to Bevelle to continue the story.

Also, I have a question for people who've played FFX in the past: while I've been roaming around I can see chests and paths that I can't reach, but near them are yellow/gold lines/levers in the ground. Am I seeing things or is there a way for me to trigger them so I can reach those places?  :hmm:

there is a way, if you want to know now

you need to ride a chocobo, hence the very easily identifiable feathers. O.o The calm lands is pretty much the only place you can get one.

So how's everyone doing trophy wise? Are the trophies easy? Are you going for the platinum? I want to try to plat Freedom Wars, but in order to keep what's left of my sanity intact, I'm taking a break from it.

How far have you gotten? I just remembered I skipped most of the story by playing coop. When you play coop it gives you all the missions available from your current CODE level and then once you beat them all, you have to go to single player to get through all the pedandtic stuff like your final test for the CODE level and some minor plot details. It didnt even occur to me that playing solo you have to deal with constant streams of plot.

I just did the choice in CODE 5 between 2 characters I don't give a crap about. If the missions were longer, or there were more of them compared to the story, I'd be compelled to play it more. The story outweighs the gameplay and it's annoying. I've never hated the phrase "go get some rest" more.

I was just contemplating turning on the PS3 as you were writing those questions.

Chapter 4 of Castlevania is only 2 levels long so, I'm close to another trophy or two.

I've been spending the last 20 minutes or so combing the internet to research whether or not I need to complete the entire level if I replay a level just for a collectible. I'm becoming stronger with combos and gear but, most of it isn't very usefull without heath and magic to support them so, I'm looking to go back through several of the levels and pick up some more collectibles before venturing on.

No sense buying a combo if, when I go to actually utilize it, I die in two seconds from a couple of swats to the head from a basic enemy.

Yeah I completely understand. Are you guys not doing coop in the we play thread? Seems like a missed opportunity there...

After searching around the internet for a bit, I found a neat little exploit for going back for collectibles, but without having to play the entire level, so I replayed a few sections and scooped up a bunch of gems, upgrades, xp, combos and completed a few level trials along the way and then saved it all for the night.

I even managed to score a new trophy. woohoo me and such. Although, 6 trophies in 10 days isn't exactly lighting up the leaderboards. =P

Good to hear about your school assignment as those final assignment are always a pain. I think Bahamut might be doing that amount of damage because Yuna hasn't leveled up enough; the strength of aeons correlates to Yuna, as she levels up so do the aeons. You can also give them spheres to power up but that could be costly and not worth it if you want to level up the main cast. Since you have the airship there's only a few things left to clean up before the finale. As Hemiak said chocobos can lead to some passages; the chocobo trainer in the Calm Lands is located close to the entrance from Macalania Woods, I believe on the cliff at the beginning before it starts to slope to the plains. Other treasures can be obtained from imputing passwords or looking at certain coordinates in the airship, I'll give the weapons list on the first spoiler tag and the coordinates in the second tag in case you don't want to be spoiled about an aeon's location.

MURASAME for Auron's Celestial Weapon Murasame.

GODHAND for Rikku's Celestial Weapon Godhand

VICTORIOUS for Rikku's armor Victorious that nullifies elemental damage.

Baaj Temple X=11-16, Y=57-63 (Anima's Temple, but first you'll have to fight the fish boss from the beginning of the game.)

Battle Site X=39-47, Y=56-60

Besaid Falls X=29-32, Y=73-76

Mi'hen Ruins X=33-36, Y=55-60

Omega Dungeon X=69-75, Y=33-38 (Optional difficult dungeon, has enemies a bit harden than Inside Sin.)

Sanubia Sands X=12-16, Y=41-45

Hope that helps and it's good to hear that you're enjoying the game. I've played a few stinkers lately, (Hyperdevotion Noire, Pier Solar, both Alice games, Freedom Wars) so it's refreshing to play Dynasty Warriors 8 and have a game that has a comprehensible plot, good at being a spectacle, and knows how to have differences of scale and kind to not make it boring and repetitive like the aforementioned games. Wang Yi's fifth weapon, in which there's a trophy for collecting all weapons, I'll have to get it eventually and I guess I could retry after I leveled up my skills more. I'll check out those videos in greater detail once I start going for that trophy. It sucks to hear that Xtreme Legends doesn't expand on the Wu kingdom's story but it's surprising to hear Lu Bu have a campaign based on what happened on the Wu kingdom's campaign. The dynamic between Liu Bei and Cao Cao is interesting as not only do they have conflicting purpose for their quests but their soldiers also reflect on why they joined their leader, something a few games I know of royally screwed up on that aspect.

So how's everyone doing trophy wise? Are the trophies easy? Are you going for the platinum? I want to try to plat Freedom Wars, but in order to keep what's left of my sanity intact, I'm taking a break from it.

Most of the trophies for Dynasty Warriors 8 seem to be based on Ambition mode, but I'm trying to clear the campaigns to get an understanding of the characters and to level them up as well. I'll aim for the platinum but I probably won't get it until the late-spring or early-summer of next year. I'm also playing Freedom Wars and I share your pain. I heard about a choice in which one of two characters dies and I hope it gives the opportunity for Mattias to disappear for the rest of the game.

As per usual I'll share some of my thoughts on the campaign portion I've played recently.

Guan Yu reappears in the midst of battling against Cao Cao's forces, which he was serving under for a while for survival. After that happy reunion Xu Shu shows up and tells Liu Bei to ask Zhuge Liang for help as a strategist. Xu Shu was pretty cool for a strategist as he felt more like a warrior than those from the Wu kingdom, quite a shame he left to join Cao Cao. Zhuge Liang seems to think long-term plans as after the Battle of Chibi, the same one which had Cao Cao suffer a massive loss, Liu Bei happily marries Sun Shangxiang of the Wu kingdom and obtains a province to rule over. Unfortunately Liu Zhang attacked Liu Bei's territy and a relative conflict led to Liu Bei taking over the province. It reminds me of how the Byzantine Emperor Justinian wanted a reason to invade his Ostrogoths allies to regain the city of Rome. Somehow Pang Tong died on me even though I was surfing on his fan and crushing foes with his phoenix wings. Ma Chao and Ma Dai were recruited with the former looking like a fierce warrior that loves the idea of justice while the latter looks like his lackey and sounds like a dork. There was also a berserker that wears one of Rey Mysterio's mask so I'll have to try him out eventually to see if he does a hurricanrana or even a 619 somehow.

Inspired by this event (and a lack of other games I particularly wanted to play), I returned to Okami... It's quite repetitive and the combat could be better, but it's fun if you don't play it for hours on end like I did. Taking a short break because of how repetitive it is...

Another day another plat. This one was a quickie though for the trophy hunters league (which just now ended) and I was at school all day for finals so Okami wouldnt have been possible. I've got some coop plans for Gauntlet but other than that I forsee a lot of Okami this weekend. I wanna get atleast halfway through the story before the weekend is done. I've got zero plans so I reckon that'll be doable.

Still wanna semi-focus on my yearly goals though. Closing in on 14k trophies and im only 2 plats away from reaching 230. This week has been kind to me so far :awesome:

I'm just trying to finish the story for now - Catherine's platinum is very difficult and most certainly beyond me, given my current skill level. Also, there's my backlog that I need to start whittling down.

As I mentioned in my last post, I'm on track to get a fairly large haul of trophies at the end. I think I can get 10 more on this playthrough (4 for the alcohol trivia, 3 for saving my remaining drinking buddies, and 3 for beating the last stage) - that will get me to 35% trophy completion.

Wow. 2 posts in 41 hours. Clearly, I can't leave you folks alone for any period of time without you spamming up the joint to no end.

I'm gonna sip on a post-sandwich coffee and see what's up with chat; after which I might replay a few more levels in Castlevania and then either shut it down for the night, or play a few new levels with my newly stocked badassery.

You could go replay all the levels on normal for gold rankings.  This would open up all the babel stages (4 more trophies) if you wanted to dip your toes, and it also makes replaying the story for the remaining endings much faster.  You can skip every puzzle level you have already earned a gold rank on.
