Popular Post crimsonidol38
Game #4:La-Mulana EX () As I don't know if I will play this or Odin Sphere this evening I'm posting my update now instead of tomorrow.La-Mulana is a Puzzle-Platformer/Action-Adventure with a 16Bit pixel look that takes places in the ancient ruins of the imaginary land La-Mulana. I don't know what the main goal is but it you are controlling an archaeologist called Lemeza on the search for some treasures. After pressing the "New Game"-option you are more or less directly in the game. There's no long introduction nor many explanations. Instead you directly take control of Lemeza and can go wherever you want (more or less). I first started to explore the village and get some of the basic gear. One main item is a laptop I received from the village's elder. This laptop has a one-way e-mail program installed (the elder can send me emails with various advices or nonsense) and I can install other programs to decipher/read the ancient language or a program to show a rudimentary map. Which I have to buy first, of course. After exploring the village's surrounding (and escaping from a big blue giant) I entered what seems to be the main temple of the game. After entering the temple I roamed the area and tried to find a path. But soon I had a problem: There's not only one path but there are multiple paths you can take through this temple. Each and everyone seems to be more or less equal to each other so it was up to my own which way I took. While I made my way through the temple to find something of meaning I had to do some basic block pushing and switch activating puzzles. Shortly after I had to realize that there are no real health items and that each main area of the temple only has one savepoint. This makes the game rather hard at first as you have to be careful while exploring the temple or otherwise the enemies or various traps (spikes, boulders, trap doors) will take your life. Even though I was barely in the game (about 30 minutes) I already died many deaths. But TBH it wasn't that bad as it perfectly fits to an ancient temple (at least those cliché ones from movies like Indiana Jones) to contain death-bringing traps everywhere. While I stumbled through the temple I activated the game's hard mode by accident. At the game's beginning you are told to try and read every sign and examine the skeletons. And what happens in one of the game's first areas? There's a sign that tells you to not read it twice . You know what I did, don't you? I read it twice and it triggered Hard Mode and some enemy appeared and insta-killed me. Ok, reload save and avoid that sign (at first). After that I tried to find the game's first guardian, a two-headed, fire-breathing snake. After three or four attempts I finally killed the snake, only to get an important mail from the villager's elder to come back ASAP as something bad happened. Once I was back at the village I felt my anger level rising as he just fooled me. I'm really liking this game so far, especially the fact that it gives you the freedom to walk every possible path early on. You maywill die a horrible death but hey, it's up to you. One fun-fact:The game's first trophy can be earned in the first ten minutes. And only 40% of the people actually earned it. I know it was a PS+-title (I bought it before it went to the IGC) but this is quite a surprising rarity, nonetheless! Oh and it's my first A-graded game from this event. And I only earned 5 bronze so far.
Maddawgmax
God of War I didn't quite get enough time with this game as I spent the 1st day finishing the Raven. I got maybe a quarter of the way through the story. Didn't help I kept having friends invite me to play other stuff. I really miss old games like this. Basically kind of a hack and slash game with QTE's and simple puzzles. I can't wait to play the newest God of War, I'm going to try to beat all the other ones before it comes out. Kind of makes me want to play the old Prince of Persia games I got as well. I got Sherlock Holmes up next I think I can get that done, if so I'm going to get back on this game and try to finish the story at least.
Maddawgmax
update: I might not be able to do Sherlock Holmes as the game doesn't seem to work for me it keeps freezing in the room with the dead bishop right at the beginning of the game. I also don't believe it has a digital version right now so I may be stuck getting another physical copy.
Oobedoob S Benubi
stuff What are you doing? Going on with games while you should have started the new one, then doing the game you're supposed to do three days from now... Not really how this is supposed to work... Popular Post Oobedoob S Benubi
Game 4: ZOMBI First day Total playtime: about five minutes Didn't play that long today. Went to the zoo with the missus all day; when we got back, after dinner she asked if I felt like playing LEGO Star Wars. I'm not passing up an opportunity like that! We went on pretty long and I have work tomorrow, did not want to spend hours on ZOMBI so I decided just to do the intro, which was shorter than expected. First off, if you die in this game then you have to switch to another character (except on survivor mode, where it's an instant game over) so deaths actually mean something. Or a little bit, at least. The introduction cutscene sets a pretty good mood. The first gameplay, less so, mostly because it's so dull. You're running from zombies into an underground station. Falling down a shaft at one point and needing to use your flashlight at another. It's supposed to create suspense but it's much too short to accomplish that, you get the title screen in a couple of minutes after nothing mind-blowing. Compare the Assassin's Creeds, also from Ubisoft, which manage to have a great action and/or stealth intro and then an awesome camera pan over the landscape when the title appears. Much more impressive. The intro to ZOMBI is just run from a couple of zombies, fall down a shaft, use your flashlight for a minute, then run from some more zombies, the end. I would have been impressed if they had lured me around a corner into a huge group of zombies like the ones you see in the intro cutscene but during the game there's only a few zombies on-screen at the same time. They seem to forget what Dead Rising did, which was released almost a decade earlier. The game also tells me how to run, by the way, but I had the feeling that it was not really necessary to do so. To make matters worse, apparently the game doesn't even auto-save after the title pops up and the new scene begins. Guess I'll have to restart tomorrow. Well, at least it's only a few minutes lost. I have more gaming time for myself tomorrow, hoping to see some action. In the game, I mean. Apologies if there are any spelling/grammar errors, first review I did on my phone. Haven't booted up my computer all day. Edited July 10, 2016 by BillyHorrible
Popular Post effdeegee
July 10-12 Heavy Fire Shattered Spear Well, I managed to find a friend that would loan me a second PS Move wand, so I'll be able to quickly bang out the last two trophies needed for the in EyePet & Friends. Before I do that, I decided to give Heavy Fire Lime Green (as opposed to Heavy Fire Apple Red) a run for its money. A digital purchase, which I picked up for $0.69 back in that Flash Sale last year, Heavy Fire Shattered Spear sat all of this time because I had already played Afghanistan and, my stars, that was enough of that for a while. Now, I hear everyone saying the collectibles need to be done over 2 playthroughs, in a single sitting, because the game doesn't save them correctly if you quit your game and turn off the system. I'd like to add that, while I'm playing this, not only will I be using both the PS Move wand and motion controller, I'll also be using the Sharpshooter attachment. I used it for Afghanistan too and can say that, because the Dualshock 3 controls for the games are such a hot mess, it adds to the enjoyment considerably. So, I load up the game, play a few levels, and realize that the collectibles are quite hard to differentiate from the rest of the garbage strewn about the levels. I missed the radio in level 1 and replayed it to get it. I missed the radio in level 3 and replayed it to get it. I missed the radio in level 4 and just said, "Alright. I'm following a guide and there is clearly still an issue, so screw it. I'm just gonna do everything else and leave the collectibles for a time when I don't want to commit harakiri over this stupid game anymore." So, I played the next level (5), decided to replay that 4 or 5 times to score some trophies dependant on crowds, and then turned it off. I nabbed 15/32 trophies, but I'm already annoyed with the game.I'm gonna take an hour or so to finish off EyePet & Friends and then slowly work on the rest of Heavy Fire Shattered Spear. If I play my cards right, I might score 2 in 24 hours.

I'm just gonna do everything else and leave the collectibles for a time when I don't want to commit harakiri over this stupid game anymore." The game has indeed to be played through twice in one go for the collectibles. I also missed a couple of my first run when I played it. I started another run a couple of days later, as even though I found it to be reasonably enjoyable it's still somewhat tedious. On my second go I ended up taking several breaks. The game is fairly short, but sitting for 5 or more hours to play through it twice in a row just drains the life out of you. Game 4 - Day 1 Hours played: 1 Trophies earned: 0/45 Didn't play all that much today, as I went out during the afternoon, as the weather was great. In the evening there was the European Championship final (Football: Portugal vs France) so you'll can imagine that I was watching that. Oh and Portugal are Champions btw, if anyone cares . Anyway, back to the game I barely played... So I start it up, go into edit mode to create a custom character, exit and start empire mode. Now I'm confronted with a problem, I couldn't find the option to play with my created character, so I just picked a random one. It's a bit more complex than 6 was, so I'm still not sure what everything does and how it works. The tutorials haven't been all to helpful either, as the generally say you need to use "x ability" and the ability will do "y", wished it would also tell me how to use it... Oh well, did a few assignments and improved some characters stats and that's it so far. Still on the first campaign, which will probably take me several hours to finish as that's how musou games generally work. EDIT: I also decided to start Steins Gate, shortly before the football match, just to chill out a bit. Oobedoob S Benubi
As long as we're all switching games to line up with each other: July 1-3: Tropico 5 July 4-6: Flame Over July 7-9: Yakuza 4 July 10-12: Mousecraft July 13-15: Chariot July 16-18: Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2 July 19-21: SSX July 22-24: Grid Autosport July 25-27: ZOMBI July 28-30: Nova-111 Now I also have ZOMBI together with Mesopithecus. Thanks to some IRL stuff, I don't know how good my mood is during 25-27 though. Sorry Markus, already opened Tropico 5 and only now I see that you're doing it as well. I only played a little bit but it doesn't seem right to switch games after having already started on one of them. Hemiak... missed something? :-) The damage is done, I just blindly checked the OP and started playing what was on there. Sorry Mesopithecus! If you're going to rejoin at some point by the way, I recommend Unravel as one of the games you should still do.

Popular Post MarkusT1992
Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris (Day 1) I had no clue what this game is and nearly didn't add it to the library when it was free. This game is a third person action game in the style of Gauntlet. After starting the game you get a little explanation of what happend in the ancient Egypt. Unfortunately I forgot the relations of the people ther. There's Set, who is the bad guy, and Osiris and Horus and I have no clue of the Egyptian mythology, althought it's very interesting and I herad about it in Yu-Gi-Oh. After the intro you ar in the first tomb of the game. The gameplay consists of walking throught the tombs and solving puzzles and shooting enemies like skeletons and scarabs. To shoot you have to press while aiming with the right analog stick. In addition you can jump with and make an evasion roll with while is used to lay down bombs which than can be detonated with . is used as an action button to grab things. And that's all about the controlls. After finishing the first tomb you are in a hub like area with different ways to other tombs. Each tomb has several challanges to complet to gain new weapons or accessoires like rings or pendants and a trophy once all challanges are completed. You can do all this with up to 4 players. So far i finished three myin tombs plus one boss tomb and three out of five challange tombs. I don't know how many tombs are left but according to the trophies there must be seven more plus two challange tombs. So far I like this game very much. It's not very hard but very fun to play. The only difficulte part could be completing all the challanges. I'm glad I picked it up.
Popular Post Mendant909
Game #4 Day 1 I only played for about an hour of Battle Princess of Arcadias, so I'll talk about the tutorials. The core of the game is a beat-em-up but due to the stiff animations think less Muramasa Rebirth and more the first Streets of Rage. That may be my main gripe with the game as the combat doesn't feel fluid like modern beat-em-ups yet does have modern mechanics expected, like a slide/dodge maneuver and ability to string combos. A minor annoyance would be that the game only has a Japanese dub with subtitles so I made the cutscenes voiceless while leaving the grunting for combat on. I grew up with voiceless games, and since this game doesn't have moving mouths, I might as well have the audio that I don't understand be in combat. The story hasn't had a chance to flesh out yet as all I know is that Prunie is a princess that battles, so there's your eponymous title. Monsters rose for some reason and your troops were wiped out by a dragon that looks like a Groudon. The king is your brother that's a goose, for some reason, and he sent spies on a country. It's the tutorial and not much was given but maybe afterwards the story will actually pick up. The dialogue so far isn't noteworthy aside from noting a character saying he wants to give women lingerie because otherwise it's boring or how a brother told his sister that he is her brother. Until the game goes into the lazy fourth-wall breaking that Disgaea 3 or Hyperdevotion Noire constantly did, I'll give the writing a chance. The game manages to have differences of kind by giving three different sections of play: combat, siege, and skirmish. Combat seems to be just clearing out a stage of enemies, siege is fighting a boss with your brigade, and a skirmish is having your brigade fight another brigade. Combat is pretty self-explanatory so I'll give more details on the point of a brigade in the other two playstyles. In both cases your brigade has to survive or it's game over, however, you are able to shift the position of your brigade from offensive to defensive depending on your choice of risk versus reward; do you deal as much damage as possible while leaving yourself vulnerable or do you go slow and steady to chip away the health of the opposition. In a skirmish it's more of a paper-rock-scissors scenario as you are given information as to what type of troops the enemy has and you have to counter that, the key being that any side can switch their troop type as long as they have the morale to do so. So far the game hasn't impressed me and usually the first hour lays the blueprint of what to expect. If Battle Princess gives me impressive skirmishes and sieges then I could see the game getting a recommendation from me. I'll give the game more of a chance tomorrow and maybe it'll be clear as to whether this game has a plot or an excuse plot for the action.

MStalker58
Feels like we're in an elimination race here... Who will survive and be the last person standing? Well not me because I got nothing on ICO from yesterday. Sure, I was busy most of the day but I could have squeezed in an hour or so with the game. I actually inserted the disc and made it all the way to the loading screen. Just wasn't in the mood for gaming yesterday so I couldn't bring myself to pressing start. I'll try to get some extra time with the game today to make up for it. Hopefully I'll be able to post my thoughts this evening instead of waiting until tomorrow morning. EDIT: On another word: Does anyone know what's up with Clawz? Well he's alive. Was getting worried but he did send a PM related to another event that he runs, so we know he's still breathing at least. Other than that, no idea. He'll probably say that he's been really busy lately. That's usually his excuse. Sure you are Clawz.
Popular Post voodoo_eyes
Game 4 - Day 2 Hours played: a bit over 3 Trophies earned: 3/45 Got another 2 hours in today, as I might not have much time tomorrow (got more Star Trek boosting scheduled). Nothing new to tell really. More assignments completed, more stats upgraded and the likes. Finally got to use one of the abilities, turns out they can't be used during assignments... only in invasion or defense missions. Now that's where the problem lies, unless you're the ruler, you can't actively choose when to invade or defend a territory. It's up to "your ruler". and mine happens to be a lazy bum, that has no interest of invading anyone >.< .
Popular Post MStalker58
ICO Day 2 Trophies: 2/16 (3%) My initial impression is that ICO will be my least favorite game in the event so far. That's due more to how much I enjoyed my previous 3 games rather than any dislike of ICO though. And to be fair, I have a feeling this is the type of game that I'll appreciate a lot more once I've completed it and gotten the whole experience. I know that was the case with Shadow of the Colossus. My final thoughts changed quite a bit compared to my initial impressions. The first thing I noticed is that there is absolutely no hand holding in this game. No glowing objects highlighting that they need to be used to solve puzzles, no flashing arrows telling you to go this way, no tutorial prompts teaching you the mechanics of the game, or even telling you the controls. I actually prefer this method of learning everything on my own, but it's still a bit of shock to the mind and takes a while to get used to after playing more current games. When I first encountered the shadowy figures, I wasn't even sure they were enemies. Then they started dragging Yorda (I think that's her name?) into a black hole type thing. Yep, those are bad guys and I should probably kill them. That brings up my only real complaint so far and that's the combat. So far I'm finding it rather annoying. Those shadow guys just keep jumping back out of reach every time I try going towards them. Also, if they knock you down, it seems to take forever to get back up. Not to mention that now the shadows are starting to fly and have wings? Oh great. The majority of the game seems to be guiding Yorda through each area while defending her from the shadows. You even have to hold a button to grab her hand and drag her to where you are going at times. You also have to use the environment to create paths that she can travel. I'm actually enjoying this part of the game. It's somewhat relaxing just exploring the areas and figuring out what you need to do. Anyways, I just met Yorda's mother and she seems lovely. Also, it was very thoughtful of someone to put these couches (save points) in random locations so we can rest on our journey. Popular Post MarkusT1992
Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris (Day 2) Nothing relly new today. I played for about an hour and finishe only two tombs. The tombs are getting harder but still not really hard. Maybe I can finish the story tomorrow but I'm not quite sure. I heared a bit more about the mythology namely about Sebek the god of Nil and rain i think. He is my next bossto defeat befor coming to Set. The tombs are really nice made and getting all the challanges is really a challange but I think it should be doable. I might even get the 100% for this game and with that my first UR trophy.
Popular Post effdeegee
July 10-12 Heavy Fire Shattered Spear Trophies: +18/32 (7,537 - 7,555) I load up the game again, thinking, "Well, it's almost been fun, but I'm glad this game's time is finally up and I can move on to something new and exciting." I play the game for a few levels, score 3 more trophies, put away the Sharpshooter attachment, and then come back here to give my final thoughts. Then, I start to notice everyone else's posts are their first impressions and second day thoughts on their games. Oh, geez. Today's only the 11th. I still have another day of this poop. I only played 3 levels (6, 7, and 8 of 12) and I noticed a pretty huge flaw in the game. The game's calibration messes up every time you lay the gun down. I'd calibrate, aaand immediately calibrate again because it was crap, declare it "good enough," earn a trophy, press the and sync, put down the gun while it was syncing, and update my PSNProfile. Then, when I picked up the gun again to resume playing, it was like 5 inches off of what it was. I did it a few more times just to confirm and it happens each time. So stupid. The Move controls were a bit wonky during this play session, too. I'd see the prompt on the screen to tilt, or jerk, or fart, and couldn't get it to register for the life of me. Anywhoozle. Tomorrow's the end of this Lame McCheaperton. P.S. Where are all of the people? Rach bailed, Hemiak is pulling a Clawz, and Clawz is just being Clawz. Mendant909
I won't really give an update for the second day since those points can be brought up for the third day. Needless to say, Battle Princess of Arcadias's story is meaningless, empty stuff that has no purpose. Thanks for the fair word of warning. It's my fifth game (so I will start it on Wednesday) and personally I thought that this game would be an RPG. Now I know what I can expect. The game does contain RPG elements as you do level up and get better equipment, yet the beat-em-up seems more of a tool to grind as enemies are pretty easy. I'll try to give some tips tomorrow since there's a boss that took an hour of trial and error to beat. After reading your La-Mulana impressions and MStalker's experience with Ducktales I'm interested in playing those games sometime after the event is over. It's interesting to read the opinions on games I might not have given a proper glance and hopefully there will be more games that I'll add to my queue.
Popular Post Oobedoob S Benubi
Game #4: ZOMBISecond dayTotal playtime: about an hour Well, I got more action, like I wanted... Rather than doing one whole coherent story, I want to share some independent thoughts I had while playing the game last night. So apparently, running during the intro is indeed not needed. It doesn't help that the game quickly gives me a way up where I can rest and look back, and see that the few zombies around were not even nearly close to me. Hey, the game tries to do stuff through my controller's speaker! Fine, I'll turn its volume on then... Those sounds coming from the controller are actually pretty cool, it really helps the atmosphere of the game. So I need to get a backpack, from "the last person" the man on the radio tried to help but that person didn't want help. He's now a zombie so I really have to take note of the tips the man on the radio gives me. Okay... Why is he stuck in between some heavy shutters? Right, I'm saying it right now: the guy on the radio cannot be trusted. I like the idea of looting bodies, who may or may not be undead. I do not like the scanner which immediately tells me if a body is undead and/or has loot. It kind of defeats the purpose. The damn thing is, naturally, another remnant of the WiiU controller. Lots of rats and birds so you have no idea if a beep on your radar means undead or harmless animal. I like that. Hmmm, the radioman is unlocking a door for me now, he had locked it "for my own safety"... This guy has EVIL written all over him. I like the overall atmosphere. Abandoned city, all on your own (excluding radioman), trying to stay alive. It's encouraged to find an alternative route past an undead horde. Haha, I try to open a door and and the alarm goes off... Good one, game, you got me there. Here's what I hate about the game already: It puts me in a "rather flight than fight" atmosphere, encouraging horde-avoiding and picking off zombies one by one. Then, when I get back to the safe house, it suddenly drops loads of zombies at the front door, which I do not have enough ammo for even though my ridiculously low ammo cap was already filled to the max. Give me weapons and make it a fighting game or give me resources and make it a stealthy game but don't expect me to hold off a horde with just a bat. It's stupid anyway, I finally have a hammer and planks to nail down doors but for whatever random reason I can't use this on the front door of the safe house. That's arbitrary and unnecessary and I don't like it. I'll probably get some playtime later tonight for the final day, but I'm afraid I won't get to three hours of playtime this time around. Still, I already have a pretty good feeling what this game is about.
Popular Post crimsonidol38
Game #4:La-Mulana EX () Didn't play that much of La-Mulana EX yesterday (about half an hour) as I wasn't in the right mood for it (high temperatures, long work day --> brain not able to fulfill the task of playing La-Mulana EX ). I explored the Mausoleum of the Giants, the area that contains the sign to trigger Hard Mode, and I was only able to trigger a mini-boss called Ghost Lord. The attack pattern of him was rather simple but I was too clumsy and he killed me. At least I found the savepoint in that area. It feels like the game is just getting started as the area contains a lot of signs with information about the game's lore. Something about eight beings (probably those guardians like the twin-headed snake) that are all children of "Mother" and that lived in that area and ruled it (?): It's really cryptic so far but that makes me rather curious. I hope I can get some additional hours in today. So it's more or less like a Vanillaware-game without the nice animations. Tips are appreciated. And about La-Mulana I can say that you should give it a try if you like games with Metroidvania-like gameplay (huge areas you can freely explore without any real goal given) and aren't affraid of some trial and error sequences. If it comes for the trophies this game seems to be a tough nut as there seems to be a high amount of missables and a lot of preperation is needed AFAIR. Plus it was in IGC so you may have it in your backlog already.
Oobedoob S Benubi
ICO I never paid much attention to this game - I only got a PS3 last year, and while COlossus has been on my radar I can't say the same about ICO. Your review makes me rethink about getting the double pack though. I know it's on a sale right now but it was on for €8 half a year ago and I still have a large enough backlog. I'll wait for a bit more.
Hemiak
Hemiak... missed something? :-)Almost certainly. As of this moment Im assuming you made a change to your list at some point. Let's just presume I exercised my ultimate authority and decided against allowing it. At least in that case I seem like a dick, and not an incompetent moron. P.S. Where are all of the people? Rach bailed, Hemiak is pulling a Clawz, and Clawz is just being Clawz. Hem's in Florida, without a computer or Playstation. My plan at this point is to completely take over the TV for several nights when I get home, and catch up on all the games I will have missed. I'll shoot for 3+ hours each night and then move on to the next game each day. I'm occasionally checking in, but won't be active for another 3 days or so.
