This anime has obviously been hyped up quite a bit, and for me at least, it didn't disappoint. The best way I can describe FranXX is like a mixture of Evangelion and Gurren Lagann. The mysterious world it takes place in had me hooked right from the start and I wanted to know more. Squad 13's development over the course of the anime was real nice. For example, I wasn't expecting to like Mitsuru, but he really puled through as it went along. Goro is best boy no doubt. That dude is just cool, caring, and all around nice guy. He's the kind of person you want as a best friend. I think the last third of the anime is a little weaker than everything that came before it, mainly because of the plot twist that I don't think was really explored enough, but it was still enjoyable. As for the inevitable best girl discussion, I've got to say, I had a hard time coming to a conclusion on this one. Usually it's a lot more obvious for me. Zero Two stood out to me initially of course because she's so unpredictable, brash, and mysterious. I really like her design too - HAWT! However, I think she loses a lot of her charm during the second half of the anime which is unfortunate. On the other hand, Ichigo is consistently good. I tend to have a soft spot for flat-chested cuties like her. She's quite shy, but has bossy side of her too. Very caring and gets embarrassed easily. These are all character traits I quite enjoy. For the most part, I get my anime fix from a number of different Fansub sites in Spanish so I don't think I could pinpoint you to any of those ? Well, it had only been 6 months since my last one, but it still feels like ages... Senran Kagura (2013) Enjoyment: 8/10 After Estival Versus and Peach Beach Splash, I thought I'd finish my Senran Kagura marathon with the anime series and other related anime. It had been a while since my last anime series anyway and as I'm trying to (slowly) get back into anime, I was looking for a short series to watch, so this one was just perfect. I had read mixed reactions on it, so I went in with low expectations. Well, I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It's a fun series that features some of the traditional Senran Kagura fan service and humor while having a more serious story. It serves as a sort of introduction to the Senran Kagura universe, what with the narrator explaining the terms that are used throughout it and some of the characters' pasts and backgrounds that are explored, so I'd recommend watching this series before delving into the games if you haven't yet. But even if you already have (like me), it's still a nice way to get more insight into this universe. The series tells the story of a conflict that erupts between two factions: "light" (Hanzou Academy) and "dark" (Crimson Squad). You can guess how each faction operates and trains based on that. It's a simplified "good vs bad" story, but it doesn't drag on (at least Season 1 didn't) and is pretty enjoyable. It's not anything stellar or worthy of more praise, though, so if you don't go in with high expectations then you'll hopefully enjoy it for what it is. It also surprisingly doesn't feature a lot of (blatant) fan service. It's mostly Katsuragi's obsession with Asuka's breasts and some random moments here and there. There's also a pretty good amount of action scenes, and it's well animated and voiced (I'm talking about the Japanese VA, obviously ). I personally enjoyed it and would recommend it if you're into or plan to get into the Senran Kagura universe. Senran Kagura Specials (2013) Enjoyment: 7/10 Not really much to say about this one. It's all about the plot. Specials is a set of six 3-minute episodes that feature humorous scenes involving some of the Senran Kagura girls. There's no actual story or character development to be seen here. Although I gotta say... Spoiler What the fuck, Hanzo? Senran Kagura Estival Versus: Shoujo-tachi no Sentaku (2015) Enjoyment: 7/10 This one is mostly about the plot (featuring uncensored nudity this time). This OVA is a sort of re-imagining of Estival Versus' prologue and features the same premise, but with a different outcome. It's only 30 minutes long, so everything feels kinda crammed and each girl doesn't get a lot of screen time as a result of that, but it's good enough to be enjoyed as a standalone anime, and it has a lot of "that" (see above) if that's the only thing you're looking for. I think the next anime series I'll watch will be Code:Realize - Sousei no Himegimi. It's another short anime series that has gotten mixed reception, but I loved Guardian Of Rebirth, so hopefully it's a decent one at least. Undead Wolf Posted September 23, 2018 Share Posted September 23, 2018 Island (12 Episodes) Score: 6/10 I'm a sucker for anything involving time travel, so I had to check this one out. I know its based off a visual novel, but unfortunately it wasn't localised on PlayStation, so I never played it. I don't know how long the game was, but I knew it couldn't be a good sign when I saw this only had 12 episodes. Sure enough, the pacing in the anime is very poor. It rushes through everything so fast and it can be very jarring to see one scene which then immediately cuts to the next. It would have definitely benefited from more episodes. Having said that, at its core, it's actually quite good. The story was interesting to me, even if I don't think certain elements were explained well enough. The ending was really nice. The other Rinne barely got any screen time at all outside of the Never Island part, although I did really like her in that. I think the decision Setsuna made at the end was the right one, though.
