You wrote about these games so enthusiastically, it was hard to be like "...well yeah but I dunno..." I was very much wowed by the scope of the second game. The building is so huge, and just the addition of seemingly small things like background peeps or TV shows to talk about with your colleagues made it feel that much more alive. Something you mentioned in your review that I also loved was walkin in on the landlord snoopin through your shit. Also the fact that he had a camera on deck to sell you! The throwbacks were so clever. Absolutely I used a guide? I did for both games, although I would keep saves open to explore other branches just because the game was that fun. I feel a blind playthrough would be more time consuming but also more feasible on this one if only for the fact that the clock isn't always tickin away. Popular Post YaManSmevz
Platinum #28: Fallout 4 This is a tricky one for me to review. I wanted to both love and hate this game, succeeding and failing at each, usually at the same time. The simplest way I can put it is like this - as a casual gamer looking for a fun playing experience, this is a great game, however flawed. If you're looking for a satisfying completionist experience, this is a pretty trying and often unpleasant game, though not without its moments. Full disclosure: I have already written about this, but it was pretty unfocused and predated any real interest in talking about games I've finished on a regular basis. This will largely be a retread with (hopefully) more focus and structure. Anyway! As a Fallout virgin, everything was pretty new to me. I loved the hokey, 50's-ish opening. The main theme is pretty bad ass (give me a brooding melody with low, thundering piano notes and I'm a happy man). I thought the post-cryogenic confusion was handled well, and I totally bought into the whole concept, like I was Fry if he woke up into a far less (or at least less deliberately) hilarious situation. The exploration was outstanding. I loved not having my hand held and accidentally wandering into areas where I was obscenely outmatched. Like it's a post-apocalyptic hell hole, it's dangerous! Don't be walkin around like a binocular-adorned tourist when you're level five! Bethesda was right to punish me for that? The world is crafted to such a sophisticated degree, and the joy of seeing it all never went away. I found the diversity of the characters interesting. I liked the complexity a lot of the companions got, and I thought the factions, while clichéd as hell, were at least well chosen clichés. The Institute - The big powerful baddies that everybody is scared of. Everyone else thinks they're evil, they think nobody else knows what's best. To be a bit glib, they're the Edward Scissorhands of the Commonwealth; They want to love, but only know how to hurt? The Brotherhood - Intriguing outsiders with a dope airship (their engineer clearly played Final Fantasy games as a kid). Their leader is that alluring, mysterious guy you're not really sure about... til he says something bigoted af and that's all you can see him as from then on. The Railroad - The scrappy, plucky heroes that David Cage wishes he had come up with. Enough imagination for an on-the-nose Underground Railroad reference but not enough to make the faction genuinely clever. Also they're a bit of a 1770's American militia stereotype! They're outgunned. And they're outnumbered. But they're determined to find a way to win, and to DO WHAT'S RIGHT. The Minutemen - The introduction to the factions, and I really liked them... until it became clear that all I was gonna do for them was protect random settlements. The castle quest was a lot of fun, but that was pretty much it. As for the main story, it has some problems. Starts great. You wake up in the future, your spouse is murdered and your baby is kidnapped. Now you've gotta brave this wasteland, the decayed remnants of the world you remember, to find him and get revenge. You've reeled me in, I'm about it. Then Preston Garvey steps in. "Cool story bro, but we gotta stop bandits from taking over this one settlement. They got a drinking fountain, dude!" Then you're directed to Emerald City, which is pretty cool. I loved Fenway Park as a closed off civilization. Helping out the companions was cool, stumbling upon vaults similar to the one you crawled out of and helping them was cool, basically anything the Minutemen don't put you up to is fun (sorry, I'm salty because I legit spent a few days just doing their missions, thinking that's what I was supposed to be doing). Truth be told, it is so easy to be wrapped up in the side quests, because they are so much more engaging than the main story. And I have no clue how! It's such a great concept, but so dull in execution. When you finally find out what happened, it's just so silly. Italicized spoilers below, taken directly from my first post: "Is it so hard to believe that it's been sixty years," he asks. Yes! And Kellogg?? "Oh yes, I can explain that. It's because we used the, you know, whatever device." You start out all Mel Gibson in Ransom and then when you find your son it's like post-apocalyptic Steamed Hams! "Shaaauuuun!" "Father! I was just.... leading the institute and creating synths! Care to join me?" "Shaun, why are you sixty years old?" "Oh, that's from the cryogenic stasis you'd been having!" Come on, now. What's more puzzling is that their storytelling is absolutely in tact. In spite of a lot of floundering about, the story eventually comes together really nicely. You do get quite invested, and going for all the different endings is absolutely worthwhile. Plus, there's the DLC. Far Harbor is excellent, and leagues ahead of the base game when it comes to juggling factions, interesting lore, and entertaining characters. Nuka World is pretty good as well, but unfortunately the ability to become a Raider proved controversial (I thought it was pretty creative myself), and if you're goin for trophies... actually, let's get into that! So the story starts and ends strong in spite of a somewhat lacking middle. The world is tremendous and an absolute delight to wander through. The builds, which I forgot to mention, made leveling up a lot of fun. The options when it comes to building up settlements is very well done too! Decent characters, engaging side content... as I said before, a solid game. The trophies, on the other hand, are rather misguided. For example, the developers have an almost impressive knack for taking a great feature in the game and twisting it into something that nobody would ever organically want to do, ever. "Are you enjoying building settlements and making them a nice place to live for settlers?" "Absolutely, I'm havin a bla-" "How would you like to figure out how to get happiness to 100%?" "Oh... well that sounds like a-" "A good time? Great! Go ahead, there's a trophy for that!" "....fuck." It's almost as if they're actively trying to get you to dislike the game and hired the Ironic Punishment Division in the Hell Labs to set up the trophy list. "So! You like Fallout, eh?" "Uh-huh." "WELL! HAVE ALL THE FALLOUT IN THE WORLD!! AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!" I apologize, this has gone on for long enough! I'll reference my closing paragraph from the first post, do the 'that trophy' segment, and we'll get out of here? This is not a super hard game, but it will absolutely devour your time. I didn't know the lengths I would go to for a bronze(???!!!!) trophy until I built hundreds of workout benches on a settlement or constructed a ton of cages trying to catch five animals at once or glitched out that dumb hoopshot game for however long that took me. Nevertheless, I am proud of my S grade, and if you have a LOT of time to kill, enjoy exploration, don't mind goofy ass storytelling that maybe takes itself slightly too seriously or a mediocre af combat system, there are worse plats you could own. I think Fallout 4 is definitely at its best when simply played and beaten once or twice. Completing it on the other hand is, while rewarding, a real drag. THAT Trophy: Eyes on the Prize Benevolent Leader was no picnic, but I remember getting that trophy and feeling like I'd gotten the worst out of the way. Not so! This was such a tedious time sucker, and the novelty of the games themselves dried up real quick. I didn't want to get the platinum before finishing the DLC and in retrospect I made the right decision, because if this were the last thing I did in this game I would've been left with quite a sour taste! Anyway, props to everybody who read all this! In the end, I guess was as inconsiderate with the time of others as Fallout 4's trophy list was?
DrunkenEngineer
Great review! I have Fallout 4 on my profile and it’s the one game I started and never even beat the campaign, for many of the reasons you talked about. Been meaning to give another go after my big open world game fatigue has diminished a bit.
YaManSmevz
Thanks @DrunkenEngineer! Yeah, after GTA5 I imagine you could use a bit of a break from that, haha... this one is definitely easier though, there's just a lot of drag here and there. Definitely worth tackling at some point down the road, I'd say! Edited August 29, 2021 by YaManSmevz
DrunkenEngineer
I've also been holding out on the hope it gets a 60FPS patch like it did on Xbox, but alas I don't think that's in the cards. At least there are no online trophies so it can be done whenever!
rjkclarke
Y'know we were recently discussing other people talking about games getting them hyped up to play or go back to their own. Well.... I meant to post this when you wrote it - but your review of Fallout 4 has made me want to jump in and clean up the rest of the DLC trophies I have left on Fallout 4. So I might hop over to the store shortly and pick up that pricey DLC which is thankfully on sale right now. You've made it sound more appealing than I expected to. I didn't get on too well with Fallout 4 - something about it felt a little bit, I don't know... Missing? Maybe, it's a huge expansive place to uncover, I just think it lacks a bit of the charm that both Fallout 3 and New Vegas had. Plenty I did like about it though. It can be really immersive. I remember coming across a settlement that had one really old ghoul there, that you could trade items with him for caps, and I had maxed out speech skill, so I managed to drive up a really high price. I remember feeling so guilty when his almost exactly like Hans Moleman voice spoke back something like "that's a lot, erm I don't have much but AAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLRIGHT" in the most protracted old man way possible. I felt so bad ?
Popular Post YaManSmevz
Platinum #3: Detroit: Become Human A Detroit review.... how would a hard-boiled, eccentric gamer start a review on Detroit: Become Human? FUCKINGPERSONALBACKSTORY Obviously! This was one of the first games I got on PS4, and as such one of the last physical gaming purchases I ever made. For Christmas of 2019 (about twelve years ago) my mother and sister bought me a PS4, easily among the best gifts I've ever gotten (and first console I've been given as a gift since childhood, so that was a real treat), but I was vastly unprepared for entering the current gaming generation - it would be a first for me since the PS2 era. I immediately consulted my friends Timmy O'Internet and Johnny B. Google, who informed me of all the PS4 must-plays, and as I'm sure you've guessed by now, this was one of them. I bought a fat stack of games, all of them foreign and new to me, opened up the PS4 box (does anybody here ever take a whiff of their freshly purchased electronics? I have ALWAYS loved that smell... just me? Ehhh nevermind), and set out to be the very best aging manchild that I could be. When I got to Detroit, I was absolutely floored. I feel it can't be overstated, on a technical level this game is ridiculously polished. It looks utterly gorgeous, the soundtrack is sweeping and would not be out of place in a blockbuster film, and I remember marveling at how close the gap in quality had become between cutscene and gameplay scene quality. This game is a spectacular PS4 showcase! So imagine my disappointment when I settle in after that great intro, and the first thing I do is... go buy some paint. Whatever, though! We just started, we gotta set this shit up. It's gonna be awesome... damn, those protestors do not like me... kinda sorta subtle-but-not-really social commentary, that's cool, nothin wrong with that! I mean as long as it isn't overly litera- ...okay the androids are crammed into the back of the bus. ....but I mean whatever, this is the reality of the in-game world, of course that's gonna naturally come up here and th-... dude, they are really driving home this back of the bus thing, I'm pretty sure we all get it! So many topics are hamfistedly tackled here. It's practically "Now That's What I Call Xenophobia 2018!" This collection has got all the hits! Slavery! Segregation! Immigration! The Holocaust! And of course, everybody's favorite, The Civil Rights Movement! There's nothing wrong with having a message in your game, but this is so obnoxiously direct I can't help but wonder who it's for - it's too easy to assume it's just Mr. Cage giving himself a congratulatory pat on the back. "I'm not racist, I made Detroit: Become Human!" Good for you, bro. Moving on, then there's Kara's segment, where the first thing you do is clean up Todd's house, for what feels like a while. This reminded me of that bit in Mafia 2 where you have to load the 2×4 planks or whatever it was until you realize you're supposed to stop at some point - here you actually have to do it. I remember thinking "I just cleaned up around my own house... why would I want to simulate cleaning up someone else's?" The Hank and Connor stuff was like an amalgam of "unlikely cop duo" stories I've already seen, but it was easily the most enjoyable aspect of the story. Kicking the game off with Connor was the right move, and the intro did an excellent job of introducing controls, gameplay mechanics, and getting you into detective mode. Also, after staring at Hank for quite some time, I realized he was played by none other than Clancy Brown, Captain Byron Hadley and Mr. Krabs himself. What a cool career this man has! Having said all that, did I enjoy completing this game? Actually, yes I did! There was clearly a lot of work put into making sure each branch felt like its own thing. And it's made easy to keep track of, with a chart you can access for each chapter to see which bits you've seen and which ones you haven't. For all the over the top bluster, you genuinely do find yourself wanting to see what happens with different choices you can make. Once you just let go and accept the self-importance of the game and just go along with it, it's fun to get swept up in all the dumb drama! As far as endings, although it was my least favorite arc, I enjoyed Kara's the most, if only for that relentless tension trying to get them to safety. Markus' endings were satisfying, even the Kiss North/Sing ending was so absurd that I couldn't help laughing. David Cage was like "they'll identify with his humanity... and then we'll cut to a hands across America type moment. I'm a GENIUS." Connor and Hank's endings ranged from heartwarming to tragic, and were pretty well done. Clancy Brown did his thing, man. Hank could've been such a bore, but his performance really brought the character to life. I'd say this is a great game if you don't take it seriously, but it's impossible to take seriously so I guess it's just a great game? THAT Trophy: Just a Machine Making Hank hate you enough to kill you was not as easy as it sounds. Plus you feel like such a monster pushing this clearly tormented man to his breaking point, it's not all that dissimilar from the Oxenfree trophy where you have to be a prick to everybody! Poor Hank.

Shrooba
Excellent reviews on Fallout 4 and Detroit! Man, that Eyes on the Prize trophy was obnoxious indeed. Oh boy, what a trophy it was! ? What I did was grab the ball and I think I either just held it above the hoop and crouched over and over, or I think I manually moved my vision up and down to do it, either way, it was tedious. I'd absolutely recommend Fallout: New Vegas, but apparently it runs horridly on the PS3... It's really a shame, it's a game I wanted to do so badly as well. I don't have my PS3 on me at the moment so I wouldn't be able to play it right now, but I feel especially upset for other people that want to play it on the PS3 as well. It runs great on the 360 though, so I'm really not sure what went wrong with the PS3 version... Fallout 3's art style is an interesting take as well; everything is a washed out green, emphasizing the more brutal nature of an apocalyptic wasteland. It's sort of like 4's Glowing Sea but it encompasses everything and not just one corner of the map. With Fallout: New Vegas, you've got the New Vegas Strip with it's eye-catching neon lights, with 4 it's Emerald City. Both are vibrant hubs, but you compare it to Megaton from 3 and you can really see the difference. Detroit is also another great game as well; Hank being portrayed by Clancy Brown was an excellent decision. The Shawshank Redemption is one of my favourite films, and seeing one of the actors have a role in Detroit was great. Acting is an art that takes time to blossom, and Clancy has been honing his talents for years. I couldn't see anybody else filling the role. His relationship with Connor was awesome too. The story I feel does waver in some areas, but I definitely feel as though it's made up with some of the great characters. I look forward to your future write ups. ? Popular Post YaManSmevz
Platinum #18: Back to the Future: The Game I opted to use this image rather than the platinum one as I usually do because this is one of those old ass games where there's a very boring platinum trophy simply titled "Platinum Trophy," and to take the banality a step further, the image is just a picture of a trophy. Boooo. I found this game on the 360, it was like twenty bucks and I just went for it. I LOVE the first two Back to the Future movies (and reasonably like the third one), and while like many gamers my age I have awful memories of the atrocious NES game, I figured why not - twenty years is long enough to get your act together, right? For my first point and click game I gotta say, not bad! Charmingly goofy graphics, cute film references, and a decent story. The puzzles did get a bit annoying after a while though, and around halfway through I kinda lost interest and forgot it existed. Fast forward to some random night where I'm havin' some drinks and playin' some PS4, and out of left field I remember this game and look it up in the store. Of course, it was nowhere to be found, and after some quick research on the unfortunate fate of Telltale, I find that it's been discontinued. Oh well, I think. Old news anyway, who cares? Time to pour another drink... The next morning I woke up with a headache and an email from Amazon thanking me for my sixty dollar purchase of a used physical copy of Back to the Future. What's funny is that I can picture my drunken self thinking it so clever that I found a way around this non-problem, but like that Simpsons gag where Homer misremembered his night of being a drunk fool as being a witty man-about-town, I'm sure I was constantly dropping my credit card and failed to input the correct expiration date numerous times while giggling like a buffoon. So the game arrives, and I again loved it. And again I grew tired of the puzzles halfway through. There can be very long and convoluted sequences you have to follow precisely in order to get past some parts... and the corniness is often times palpable. Trixie singing "I don't caaaaaare" to "You should caaaaare" (which is enough to light a fire under somebody to do the right thing, somehow) is something a friend and I will reference every so often. But at this point I was in a plat-stacking groove. I couldn't let this tedious, repetitive shit get the best of me! So I followed a guide and it went much more briskly. Telltale has a reputation for easy platinums, but while this is far from difficult, I was surprised at how many trophies were missable! You really have to be paying attention. But I guess that's a moot point, because what kind of jack ass would go through any kind of trouble to hunt down a copy this game?? Ultimately, I enjoyed it. It was like what you'd expect if they made a Back to the Future 4 - not great or must-see by any means, but pleasant enough for BttF lovers who aren't expecting greatness (a narrow audience, I admit). THAT Trophy: Fuel Master Not difficult, but kind of annoying, and very much a solid example of the gameplay's occasional shortcomings. The issue isn't that it's hard to decipher the instructions, but the controls are a bit iffy and it's easy to accidentally run to the wrong thing, and make a mistake and thereby void the trophy. And it goes on for a minute! You get five or six sequences done, thinking that hopefully you've gotten pretty far, and then Doc sticks his head out like "We're about a quarter of the way, keep it up!" I shouldn't complain too much though, if not for these sorts of obstacles it would be even more EZPZ than it already is! File this under "Would not play again, but would definitely watch a playthrough on YouTube for background noise."
Popular Post YaManSmevz
-Okay People, Move It Along, Nothin to See Here, Just Another Boring Ass Update- For whatever reason, I just ain't feelin writing a review. And as the stoner in us all would say, "naw bro, ya gotta FEEL it, man!" So rather I'm gonna post some updates on the shit I'm playing here to avoid boring the peeps in the contest thread to death! Rocket League Can't believe I've got eight trophies left. I remember when I was trying to get that obnoxious aerial trophy (provided you're not skilled enough to get the mechanics down like myself, otherwise I'm sure it's pretty simple), I was just like nah, fuck this. But eventually I came back and took care of business ....on a game with a 3/10 difficulty rating. See what I mean with this thread's title? Let me say it loud and clear for the folks in the cheap seats, I am a scrub with a capital S! I wanna give a quick shout out to @DrunkenEngineer! Our schedules are a bit opposite and we haven't gotten too much gaming time in together but he's quite a gentlemanly boosting partner, always lookin out! Hopefully I'll see you out there again sooner than later, my dude? Family Feud I'm gettin this one done this month dude, it's been hangin around for long enough. Five more online wins... what's daunting about it is that every game is very much the length of an episode! Who has the mental capacity to sit through a minimum of five Family Feud episodes, without ever stepping away once? Not me. But it's just gonna have to get did. EA Sports UFC 3 Speakin of 'gotta get did,' we got this fool right here. That and Family Feud are incomplete and just chillin on my profile, like unruly tenants of a building who ain't payin rent and are stinkin up the joint. They gotta go. I started thinkin 'fuck man, Legendary mode might just be too hard for me.' Then I see @KindaSabbath stompin through Trials, with his awesome warts-and-all updates, makin some truly bad ass progress, and I can't help thinkin... the fuck is my excuse?? I need to get back to work, plain and simple? Final Fantasy IX Crazy how this game, from the jump, is even more warm and majestic than I remember (@rjkclarke did not lie one bit in his magnificent review). The graphics have largely been cleaned up quite nicely, but.. am I nuts, or did the original have a different font? I couldn't help but laugh at a very middle-aged lookin Baku bein like "We're gonna kidnap us a babe-a-licious sixteen year old girl," and I know the infamous "ooh, soft!" bit is coming up, but as Mozart said when asked about the brothel setting in Amadeus, it's charming! Finally got the first real step of the delightful jumprope mini-game and hit the 100 mark. In no small part thanks to Mr. Clarke's tip to watch Vivi's right hand appear to hit the table behind him - I pictured Mario jumping and anticipated the coin sound - I made it to 101. Need to get this grind out of the way ASAP! Yakuza 0 So I just finished Chapter four, and we switch perspectives back and I'm like wait!! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!!! Story is pickin up nicely and I'm getting the hang of the fighting system. First boss fight was hard as shit, then I realized I had like twenty million yen and didn't upgrade my fighting styles, what a dummy! Also I now see that the GTA comparisons were pretty damn lazy, if anything it's got more in common with something like Streets of Rage - the thugs you rough up even have their own little names and life bars? The side stuff is deliciously outlandish. Miracle Johnson and that immortal deluge of Michael Jackson references knocked me on my ass, and the cult storyline managed to both make me sad at how this really happens and laugh at how boorishly it was satirized in its portrayal. My kind of humor! Plus, when your screen reads "MENACING MAN" in urgent letters and gives way to an older man in an exaggerated drunken style stance, pissed because he didn't get laid, if that doesn't get a laugh out of you, I don't know what to tell ya. I know this game is gonna ask a lot of me, but I think Yakuza 0 and I will get along just fine! Hitman Just finish two more missions, and get the clean up done. Even though I'm at a mere 40%, that's literally all I have to do! Not looking forward to the escalation contracts, and I have to just do better so that I don't feel the need to scum save (cuz apparently on some maps that will nullify the trophy for completing all opportunities), but this is such a great game, and it deserves the effort, dammit! Arkham, Empires, Res 5, Cities, Tony Hawk, and San Andreas are on deck, they finna get this smoke too, trust.. priorities though!

You'll get there - it'll feel great once you start to get to the point where 1-200 becomes almost second nature and you can get there almost flawlessly every single time. That makes much more sense to picture Mario than how I described it - didn't I describe it as a high five-ing a medium sized animal? Or something equally unusual. I don't know how people manage to do it based on just audio cues - I could see why it works for some people though..... I just never quite could. Such a cool game, and I was just like 'meh.' Will be doing a lot of research (and possibly a replay) when that review comes around! Anyway, sayin all that to say, there's nothing wrong with a quick lil sabbatical. I guess The Death Star wouldn't be getting blown up any time soon under my watch. I too would fail miserably at blowing up the Death Star, for what it's worth! Dude, thanks to your advice I went from 12 to 101 in literally about twenty minutes. I know the rest will most definitely NOT be as quick, but it gave me a big surge of hope! I know there will be some rough twists, but it feels that much more plausible! Agreed, I can already tell the footsteps won't work for me, but I absolutely CANNOT look at the counter for longer than a split second yet, and when the girls talk I'm like "SHUT UP!! DON'T TALK TO ME RIGHT NOW, ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND???!!!" In all seriousness, as miserable as this makes us gamers... how do you think those girls feel? Poor kids just wanna jump rope, and this awkward little mage just keeps jumpin back in and trippin over himself. I'm surprised they're never like "yo, can you fuck off and let us play? I don't know if you've noticed but we could do this all day, and were doin just fine til your ass showed up." He's going to feature heavily in a few stories, when peppering in a bit of light heartedness in some reviews where I've gotten platinum's whilst house sitting for my Mum... Oh and yeah, I guess my human brother is okay too!! Haha ?..... I hope you didn't do a silly arse thing like I did with Vice City and leave Take the Canoli trophy until last.. Or practically until last. I remember being a bit deflated when I got the platinum for that, because all I had left for it was that and a miscellaneous thing I left for last so I actually had some gameplay to do last. As a result it kind of left me a bit bummed out - I think in hindsight it would have been way better to nail the 100% as the last thing. It's not like it soured it massively or anything. I'll always bloody love that game - I feel so blessed that we even get to have a platinum available for us to go for in it. That's hands down my favourite GTA title. Although obviously I like them all to some degree. I'm guessing as you came over from the Xbox 360 like I did that you've played GTAIV yourself, just not on this account. I think I'd get it pretty quick sharp though if that got a remaster. 19 minutes ago, YaManSmevz said: Dude, thanks to your advice I went from 12 to 101 in literally about twenty minutes. That's really great to hear - happy to have helped in some way. I found that 101-200 the speed matches up pretty well with the step count, so if you just press or every time the jump counter goes up by one, hopefully you'll find it'll sync up. If a nervous twitchy person like me can overcome nerves and nail this, then you absolutely can. You've got this man!! The only time I think I ever relied on the footsteps was when it starts double tapping at 200+ - but the hardest thing is the weird speed transition it makes. You actually have to press the input much slower than your brain probably tells you too, that's what I found at least. There's a really obscure character cameo in it, he's a really minor character from the 5th game that is part of a substory in Yakuza 0 - that I thought was a really cool callback. I'm a little worried that Kiwami might feel a little bit underwhelming after playing 0, it's far less bombastic and stylised.... Still brilliant though. But for what it is, a remake of the original title, it's excellent, it did the original title a hell of a lot of justice I thought - and I really like the original PS2 title, so that's high praise from me. 34 minutes ago, YaManSmevz said: Hell yes! KindaSabbath
@YaManSmevz Awesome update man! It's good to read your progress on the many games you're working on. Always a pleasure to read, too! You are one funny mother fucker ?. Shit man, I've gotta give some admiration for your ability to multi task! Yo, did you invite me to play Rocket League the other evening? I was sweating Trials, as I do. I saw it pop up in the corner of my screen and then it was gone and nothing in my notifications. I was scratching my head thinking "wait, wut?" @rjkclarke it's hard wanting to play anything when you've just had an experience with a game, like you just did. Probably even more so when you know you will be writing about the next game. I'll say this: take your time bro. When you wanna play something, play it. If not, don't. But do not feel like you need to deliver on the same level with your next write up, if the game ends up being a far inferior experience. You're a talented writer. Not every game will be quite as demanding of your talent as Final Fantasy IX. Whatever you write next will be top quality, regardless. I have no doubt. Even if the next game you play, you end up writing: Yeah fuck this game, I wasn't feeling it, it sucks ass compared to FF IX and then proceed to *insert a bit of routine info on the game here* - I'm sure you would word it in such a way, it would still be awesome! The community is very supportive of everyone's progress, and it's nice to read about what others have been playing. I'm also taking part in the Fall/ Winter event, I'd definitely recommend giving it a go at some point ?

I must admit that as happy as I was to be done, it wasn't the healthy "holy fuck, wasn't that a good time!" I had been hoping for. I needed a break after that, and for whatever reason I didn't give myself one. Masochist, I suppose. 8 hours ago, rjkclarke said: I'll always bloody love that game - I feel so blessed that we even get to have a platinum available for us to go for in it. Can't tell you how surprisingly grateful I was to be able to complete those games yet again. And you guessed right, I would be all over it! I'm still surprised at how uninterested they seem in reviving that, though from what I understand the soundtrack and voice acting might be a financially unpleasant thing for them to revisit and deal with - just a shame they haven't been running off with bags of money thanks to GTAO and don't at all have the means to address those issues? Loved IV, and I love Vice City, but I must attest to the extraordinarily boring conclusion that San Andreas is my favorite. But Vice City, with San Andreas-and-beyond mechanics? No.. shh!! That is LEGEND. 13 hours ago, rjkclarke said: That's really great to hear - happy to have helped in some way. They must! Sometimes I look at NPCs in JRPGs and it cracks me up to think of counterparts to them doing whatever they do in in real life. How much would that creep you out if there was a gaggle of little girls around the way from you who were always playing jump rope, and always in the exact same configuration? Like it was clear that they never went home or at least took a break or anything like that. That's some Shining shit! Frankly we're probably lucky that all they want is for us to jump rope 1,000 times... in fact, how do I know YOU'RE not in on it too?? 13 hours ago, rjkclarke said: I don't think you'd really lose anything by playing 0 first, so I'd say it was the right decision too - there's like one or two references here and there, but actually playing 0 first will make you go "OOOOOOOH that's who that was" when you see them in future games... I'm so impressed with 0 thus far, and while I'm aware of the Kiwami backstory and that I shouldn't expect as much from it, I'm still really excited to see where the story takes me. It is a lot of fun, and I credit the Spring one I did last year with getting me out of my shell in this place. I also owe it a huge debt for getting me to knock out a large chunk of my backlog - games like Manhunt that I touched once, balked at the controls and fucked off from, never thinking I'd get a plat out of it, ended up getting finished because I knew that I'd committed to it.
