I'm surprised nobody has bitched about autopops yet, maybe the other 55 people are writing longform pieces on why it's ruining the trophy economy?

I submitted a support request to Blizzard last week about the trophies auto-popping. They finally responded, and have escalated my ticket to the development team. They did say that the trophies should

I got a reply and now the issue is scheduled to close out unless I reply. I'm not sure what to make of it, it sounds promising but they could be getting confused with sprays. I made it very clear this is about PS5 trophies so who knows.

You will not have to repeat the requirements on additional platforms to access your rewards and trophies.

At this moment I have more faith in spam mails asking me for money for an upcoming sheikh with a great cash back later, than in any word coming from an Activision employee.

 

I swear this company gets more incompetent every year.

I find it really strange that only the PS5 versions of overwatch and fall guys won't auto pop trophies... even tho it works on every other platform

My gut tells me they were focused on the in-game rewards associated with the trophies (the sprays). I highly doubt they enable auto-pop after this much time has passed, but who knows, I think if it doesn't happen in Season 2, people need to give up on it.

So it's the same issue like with Fall Guys? Hero-related trophies not popping even if requirements are met again?

Definitely Sony is the one to blame here too for making bad cross-gen progression inferior to smart delivery on Xbox, lots of devs opt out even from implementing PS4 to PS5 save transfer (e.g. Yakuza 7 had save transfer from Xbox One to Series S/X but didn't have it on PS4/PS5), even if Sony can't add a proper save transfer no wonder that they can't implement a proper trophy transfer system either. And Blizzard? Blizzard is fucked up as usual, one of new trophies in Season 2 appears to be glitched, Junker Queen and Sojourn is nerfed making trophies added in Season 1 harder to obtain, new hero is overpowered, good job!

UPD: both new trophies are glitched :facepalm: Played the game after leaving this comment and popped "non-glitched" trophy awarded for triple kill with ultimate ability after killing only one player (my team wasn't even near me so there were no assists either)

She's still massively overpowered. The only map you'll have issues with is Junkertowns 60m line of sight. The other maps are still in her 40m rail gun range and she still one taps squishies with 100 rail.

I re-opened the ticket and nothing yet. People need to respond on the official forums with the bug report to keep it active so the devs can see. Even if they take months to fix it would be nice to see an official reply that they are working on it. I'm not too confident in the support ticket system.

There was a similar issue with The Elder Scrolls Online, where the trophies from the PS4 version didn't automatically pop when switching to the PS5 version.

There was also a thread going on in their forums and it took them months, but they got it fixed at some point.

 

Here is what I think is happening:

 

These online games have all the stats, etc. saved server-side. What should logically happen is that when you start the game and connect to your account (aka your save game), the game should check if the requirements for a trophy are achieved and if so, pop the trophy (if it isn't already popped).

From a coding standpoint, a relatively simple task.

 

However, what was happening in the ESO case is, that instead of the game checking for achieved trophies and then popping them, the devs were expecting Sony to synchronize the PS4 list with the PS5 list. (IMO, because it never got officially explained/confirmed. But based on the replies in the Elder Scrolls thread, this is what I conclude from it) What was striking at that moment was that every Bethesda game behaved that way (DOOM Eternal for example), while games from other developers just auto-popped fine. This to me shows that it is not a PSN issue but a developer issue. And, IMO, as I already explained, it was because Bethesda (and their studios) simply didn't understand how it is supposed to work.

 

And I guess this is what's happening with Overwatch as well. Instead of the game simply running a script or something at the startup that checks which achievements you already have achieved and then triggering the trophy pop, Blizzard is expecting the trophies to actually synchronize from the PS4 list to the PS5 list by PSN. (This will never happen since Sony gives different platform versions of a game different SKUs, which means for them, they are different games/products, thus they have separate trophy lists. Also, I simply believe that Sony doesn't even have a trophy sync feature between games built into PSN, because by their logic, a separate trophy list means a different game and therefore there is no reason to sync the trophy list of two different games. By their logic, The Witcher 3 and The Witcher 3 GOTY Edition are two separate products, thus they have separate trophy lists)

 

One of the reasons why I think this is what happening is because back then, the ESO devs often used phrasing like "we will check with Sony why it isn't working" etc.

And then at some point, they seem to realize that they simply need their game to check for achieved trophy requirements and then trigger the trophy ... et voilà, almost a year or so after the release of the PS5 version (it wasn't a high priority to them), ESO PS5 now auto-pops.

 

So, long story short, whoever is in contact with Blizz support about this should maybe explain to them that it is not a Sony issue but that their game should simply scan the user profile/save game and trigger the trophy pop for every achievement requirement that is already met. There is a high chance that they think as Bethesda did, that it is something that should be done on Sony's side, while it is something that needs to happen on the game's side.

Maybe it works that way with XBOX and that is why the devs get confused, IDK. But the fix should actually be super simple: scan the "save" and trigger the pops for every trophy requirement that's already met.

 That's what happening but only with single trophy (Decked Out). What you said could be a working theory but:

  1. Xbox OW2 version has single SKU/achievement list so there is nothing that could confuse devs between platforms
  2. This doesn't explain the situation with Fall Guys which has the exact problem as OW2. Prior to PS5 version release devs removed the old PS4 launcher and added new one, from technical perspective it ended in a new SKU/store page and a new trophy list. Autopop worked without any issues but in PS5 version autopop is broken completely.

This page appeared right away when PS5 version was released so Fall Guys devs definitely struggled with autopop implementation and knew that it's not working properly but obviously spending a month on making PS5 trophies work properly and postponing release for something like that was not an option.

So did OW2, ESO and Fall Guys devs suddenly saw the same dream that PSN has some trophy sync feature which is not documented anywhere and all decided to try using it? Definitely no.

My theory is that PSN may have actually received some sort of PS4-to-PS5 trophy sync feature but it's either too complicated to use or it's just broken garbage that doesn't work. Or that Sony changed something in PS5 trophy system making it non-trivial task to trigger a single trophy with different logic (check during game startup to autopop + normal in-game logic if trophy requirement is met while playing). As Sony added the ability to track trophy progress for cumulative objectives, they definitely made a lot of changes in how trophies work.

Or most likely there is some bug that prevents PS5 trophies to register properly on player account, e.g. trophy data is split between more than one DB/storage in PSN, for example one is used to quickly read/write trophy data while game is being played and the second is used to fetch the whole trophy list when players view trophies from console menu and this first DB is being updated properly but the second DB with whole account trophy data is not being synced. This can explain why trophies not only not autopopping but not being awarded even if the requirements are met again. And maybe ESO devs were just waiting for Sony to fix this shit but lost hope same way as players lost hope that trophy list will be fixed at all and came up with some tricky solution eventually.

Hello trophy hunters.

I am a user who cleared the PS4 version of Overwatch, and I ran the PS5 version of Overwatch today.

When I first accessed this game, I automatically won trophies Decorated and Decked Out.

After one win, the Centenary and World Traveler trophies were automatically won.

Are you sure there are four trophies that you can get automatically now? Or is there more?

It's only those 4 really, I started with my orignal PS4 account and nothing popped so just made a new account and got most of them again.
