Popular Post graphic_violins8
Cozy Trophies for Cozy Gamers Introduction Why must all these trophy challenges be so demanding! Why aren't there trophy challenges for the folks who just want an easy breezy experience of playing something relaxing to unwind. Well, now there is! The purpose of this event is to get folks to play the more relaxing side of gaming in the form of cozy games: the farm sims, the walking sims, the atmospheric puzzle games. The types of games might change but be certain, the focus is the same: relaxation and the feeling of being at peace while you play. First, what is a cozy game... According to Jumpstart Magazine: Cozy gaming, also called “comfort gaming”, is a type of gameplay that emphasizes relaxation, comfort and self-care Or, according to me... A game which, while featuring goals, does not emphasize the results of failure and instead focuses on success either through player originated goals or the very act of existing within the games space. Vague enough? Good. You're interpretation of cozy is important. Sure, there's rules, but we'll get to that. How to sign up Simply post you're joining. You can add a proposed list or just wing it, and feel free to swap out of your list as often as you'd like. Rules Spoiler Start Date: 01/01/2024 Midnight EST End Date: 12/31/2024 Midnight EST 1. You can play any game you want for the event as long as the game is relaxing or stress free. Obviously this could be considered subjective, but in general, think "mellow" and "relaxed". 2. With that being said, there is no time constraint. Take it easy. This event isn't timed, other than that it will complete 12/31/2024. 3. Upon completing a game, leave a review or post advice for others on a difficult part you experienced in the game. What was the hardest part? A particularly annoying achievement? Or a difficult puzzle? Whatever it was for you, explain it in your finishing post, or write a walkthrough on how to overcome it. 4. You can play games from ANY system, including non Sony systems, though there is a catch which will be explained in Points. However, if you want to play something on PS4, Xbox 360, SNES, literally any system, go ahead. 5. When it comes to combat, we believe the best approach is that combat is fine, but shouldn't be the focus of the game. Think the fighting in Stardew Valley or the combat in the Atelier games. It's there. It's fine. But it's unlikely what draws people to those games. Don't get me wrong, if you want to talk how awesome Doom Eternal is, go for it. It just won't count for the event. 6. There are two ways to finish a game. One is to complete the story and watch the credits roll. This won't be possible for every game (for example, The Sims), so these can only be completed the second way, which is platinum/100% the achievements. This is what will exclude certain systems (specifically Nintendo systems and retro systems) from getting this particular award. 7. Posting updates is encouraged but only as often as you can reasonably do it. The only thing we ask is you @ us when you complete a game or 100%. That way it's easy to keep track and when we do updates (weekly on Sundays) we don't miss anyone. 8. If there is a dispute over a game being "cozy" please PM me and we can work through why you believe it should count. It may take me a bit to message you, but I want everyone to have fun, so I want to try to be as hands on as possible in these matters. If it becomes too much, I may ask for someone else to assist me with vetting things. Points Spoiler The point system will be tracked all year and at the end of the year, tallied to determine the winners (we do have prizes, ooooo) Points will work as follows. Every trophy/achievement list is worth 1 point. Doesn't matter if it has a platinum, if it has 1000G or 300G, every completed list is worth 1 point. There are special goals worth extra points listed below. However, if the game doesn't have achievements/trophies, or the system doesn't support them, you can still earn a point by finishing the game's story (just provide a screenshot). 1. Completion and trophy 100% on Sony systems (excluding psone and 2) can simply be shown via your trophy list. 2. Completion and achievement 100% on Xbox 360, One and Series X requires you to take a screenshot and post it with your update that you completed it. 3. Completion and achievement 100% on Steam requires you to take a screenshot and post it with your update that you completed it. 4. Now, for the games without achievements. For all Nintendo systems, original Xbox, psone and 2, any sega systems, Steam games with no achievements, Atari, the cd-i and Tamagotchi's, take a picture at the completion screen and you'll receive your point. 5. Games with no definitive ending (think The Sims or Minecraft's Create mode) can still count for achievements or trophies depending on the system you play them on. If you choose to pursue any game with in game achievements, like the aforementioned ones, on a system that doesn't have trophy or achievement tracking, just grab a screenshot and post it. 6. Finally, if you wish to opt out of points or the point tracking system, for whatever reason, just let me know and we'll remove you from the running for any prizes. This last piece is just informational. @graphic_violins8 and @Sea_Giraffe007 will be participating. However, they are not eligible for any prizes and will probably separate themselves from the main list. We haven't decided on that second part yet but for sure, no prizes for the moderators. That would be lame. VersusCA
I'll sign up for this. I have a few of these kinds of games cooked up and I especially like that it includes Steam games! Bought a few walking sim/story-based games on sale and haven't had an excuse to play them yet. Will be a good break from torturing myself with the platinum difficulty challenge

graphic_violins8
@setobox and @VersusCA welcome! I’m gonna make my first additions to the main post tomorrow in the form of a leaderboard and I’ll add you both!
Xylobe
There's some fun irony in a "cozy games" event being a score-based competition, but I'll definitely be signing up!

graphic_violins8
@setobox @VersusCA @Xylobe @Hurricane_Tanya @Helyx everyone has been added to the leaderboard. I've also added some other stuff like how to sign up (exactly like how ya'll did it, but more for anyone else who finds the event), how to post updates and something else to points. Excited to see the turnout so far!

setobox
I have a question. So we are doing fresh cozy games for this that we haven't played at all right? For example, I played Gone Home when it was free on PS Plus a few years ago and got all but 3 trophies. If I got those three for this, it wouldn't count correct? If I got those three for this, it wouldn't count correct? I’m fine with you using things you already started the achievements or trophies for the 100% points. What I would say wouldn’t count is if, for instance, you played a game and finished the story in 2021, but mopped up the achievements or trophies next year. You’d get the points for the trophies but not the story completion, if that makes sense. Now with Gone Home, I see you beat the game already BUT two of the trophies require you to do so again. You would get both point values because beat the game and did the achievements during the event. So basically nothing will apply retroactively but anything earned during the event is fair game. Sorry if that’s super wordy but that’s my stance on it.

MissShake
Oh dang, this is right up my alley! Sign me up, I've already completed some games that would've counted for points (why didn't I wait until 2024 for Stardew...) so you know I am all about these games!
viech54
Not sure this event is for me, considering the games I want to play next year. I'll post here again should I decide to join. Good luck to everyone else, though, have fun. On 12/6/2023 at 2:46 AM, graphic_violins8 said: Narrative - Tell me a story, but make it really vague. Yeah, and cryptic too. So Dark Souls, Demon's Souls, and Bloodborne, got it. Just kidding. But it made me think of these games.

esstee11
Yay comfort and relaxation brought to you by a game, one of the greatest gifts a PS5 can bring! 👌 I love this kind of stuff (except any simulator that involves doing a job lol I cannot comprehend why anyone would derive pleasure from finishing their irl day job, getting home to relax on the couch, then going back to work in a PS5 job sim 😂???🤷♂️) I've played a lot of the others, fun thing is figuring what other titles will be valid like: Journey, Stray, What Remains of Edith Finch, Submerged, A Memoir Blue, The Witness, All TellTale games, Life is Strange games? island sims like Stranded Deep or Subnautica maybe? How puzzley can we go, like The Talos Principle? Edit: I'll throw in a few more suggestions: No Mans Sky, Spirit of the North, Road 96, N.E.R.O, Gris, and any Artifex Mundi (HOP -hidden object puzzle) games, all quite beautiful and super chill 🙂 I've never entered a psnp event before but I'm considering this one! So for your questions as for games I think most of those would count. I think things like The Witness and Talos Principle work in that technically they are relaxing puzzle games (even if the puzzles can be really difficult). Edith Finch and those definitely count. I’m going to say for Telltale that because the combat (if you call it that) is so seldom, I think those could count as well. The only ones you mentioned I think wouldn’t count are Stranded Deep and Subnautica but only because (and I’m not super familiar with either title so feel free to correct me) but when you die in these, don’t your characters get wiped? I think that could add a lot more stress. If that’s not accurate please let me know (I’m gonna do some research myself).
AshestoAshes28
Oh my goodness, this is literally my favourite genre of games, next to JRPGS, so I'd absolutely love to join! My plan is to replay some cozy games I already completed over on Xbox now I finally have a PlayStation again 😂. And I have a wishlist on the store full of them, so I'm set for next year! Might even finally find the motivation to finish my collection on Animal Crossing 🫣 Edited December 7, 2023 by AshestoAshes28
DoctorDrPepper
This sounds real fun, but I think i'm at a disadvantage because i've already platinumed a ton of these games. But i'd still like to participate even if i'm not gonna win.
MDLarson74
I'd like to join this event. I was planning to join one or two events next year to help me commit to finishing more of the games that I start, and I have a bunch of cozy type games in progress. This is the year that I will finish Stardew Valley, for sure! Only downside is I just bought A Short Hike and was looking forward to playing it. I guess I better wait a few weeks...
graphic_violins8
@AshestoAshes28, @DoctorDrPepper and @MDLarson74 got you on the board! I've also added a rule to that segment and finished up the extra point goals.
