Having a child named after a videogame character

I have a friend named Joel.

I work with a dood named Joel. lol

But I wouldn't name my child after a video game character. Unless it was semi-normal? Like Ken from Street Fighter? I think the closest I'll get is naming my daughter Jasmine from the Aladdin movie.

I was asked before from "someone in my past" what would I name my son/daughter... took me while to think TBH... then in end... decided I might name him/her Zack or Aerith (from FF VII...)

If my wife and I were to have kids, she wanted to a boy Zack after this fucking guy:

Which I soundly vetoed, because naming your kids after video game characters is silly.

I'll never have actual children, but I do have fluffy ones :P My dog is named after Jin Kazama from Tekken, does that count?  My koi fish is named after Dante from Devil May Cry too, I always forget about that. lol

Also.. Joel's a common name :L (referring to a couple of above posts).

A fish named after Dante from Devil May Cry :o That is one badass fish dood

I wouldn't mind naming my children after video game characters as long as it's not too obvious/ridiculous and sounds good.

Some examples I had in mind were:

Son:
-Sora
-Aiden

-Nathan

-Leon
-Roxas

Daughter: (It seems I like names ending in [ee] for girls :P)
-Ellie
-Jody
-Kairi
-Chloe
-Dawn
- Zelda

Now I only need to find a GF, marry her and grow old with her xD

LOTS of respect for Joel and Booker !!! I just don't really like the sound of it xs

I'm thinking about calling my son Sora from Kingdom Hearts

I knew I wasn't the only one with that in mind :P

This is just pure nedism mixing videogames with real life wtf

Maybe so, but you do realise that most of those names were used long before the games we know them from, came out ?

Besides, a lot of people name their son or daughter after a game character without even knowing, because 9/10 times they're just regular names.

It's just a nice touch that it means something to the parents aswell.

Now, I'm not saying we all have to name our kids after characters and I can imagine that you don't like it, but it sure as hell isn't as unusual as you may think.

Besides, I've heard FAR worse names than the ones I've read in this thread, just to be "original"... And those weren't from videogame characters. (e.g. I know someone that is called Wolv :P)
