i don't feel they need to justify it to me.  People who play these games jump in on these threads that are overwhelmingly against shovelware and start justifying it.  I don't need them to justify it, i get why they are doing it.  It's not lost on me.  As far as i'm concerned there is no valid or reasonable justification for it. People saying it's fun are lying. Tonkie jumps in on these arguments and can get quite confrontational.   I've never had direct discussion with her but if you can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen.  It would be like me going to a biker rally and screaming at the top of my lungs bikers suck.  you just don't do that unless you're looking for confrontation.

damn i was scared there for a minute i though i was cognitive dissonant.  i had no idea what it meant but it sounded really bad.   I hate to be shit talked on when someone doesn't even know what they're talking about.

but Frantz Fanon was. and he explained it as:

An anecdote perhaps, you should see my son when I give him an A4 colouring book. He's supposed to use various crayons to colour in pictures of Thomas The Tank Engine. Which with guidance he does for a few minutes/seconds, but then will just excitedly go ape shit, colouring in the entire page with giant purple or brown lines, and looking up at my face and grinning as he does it. You would not believe the fun and excitement he is having, he's such a happy boy, without a single care in the world. And then he opens the next page and continues his colourful rampage.

 

Now at that pace and style he will finish his colouring book in no time. If there was indeed a colouring book contest based on number of pages completely, he'd be a hot contender for being at the top.

 

Just because he's having the time of his life though, doesn't mean that we are NOT going to correct that behaviour later when he is older and teach him better ways to have fun. He's only 3 years old he doesn't know any better. Which can't be said for grown adults, if your standards for fun at that to be that low.

 

Of course it's never been about fun, it's all about the trophies, and that's all it ever has been.

 

There isn't a single person on this planet who collects hundreds of shit games on their Nintendo Switch. The levels people will go to defend these games, it even surprises me sometimes.

 

DrBloodMoney mentioned Drink Driving earlier which is a decent analogy. Except sane people know Drink Driving is wrong, the stigma is there because it's dangerous, not only to yourself but you could literally kill other innocent people.

 

In the case of trophy hunting though, the urgency is not there, there is no immediate damage to anyone, doesn't give you cancer or sudden death.

Throwing your time and money away though, by yourself...

In one respect, I like to think the best in people and be part of a good community trying to introduce each other into more healthy game playing habits, and you know, just being a good old samaritan all around. Spread love not hate, as the dubious slogan goes.

 

That's not to say of course it's not without merit to converse with people of differing options. This isn't an "Echo Chamber" after all.

After all, there are quite a few people reading this thread even as I type, I think everyone can read what's going on and make up their own minds and maybe come away learning something.

 

Alas, two stacks of the subjectively fun game Pongy P just rolled in. The door to the action is right over there, for those of that particular persuasion of course.

I think the saddest thing of all, is that it's only who is winning. There will never a winner.
