Some Guidance!

 

Now that the event is off and running, I've put a few more clarifications in the OP, to help answer some of the most recurring questions getting asked - I'll add to it as needed in the future, but I'll also drop them here, just to help catch attention, and head any confusion off at the pass...

...(or add to it by accident, depending on if this all makes the sense I want it to!) ?

 

 

 

Dominant Colours are tricky sometimes!

 

Some games are good for multiple colours... but try to stick to what draws the eye most.

Usually, this will be either the background colour... unless the foreground really pops so much that the background doesn't catch the eye...

... or the most eye-catching foreground colour... but only if the foreground colour takes up significant real-estate.

 

For example, this:

 

....would be good for Black, or Orange... as they are both pretty dominant.

 

but this:

 

is really only good for Pink or Maroon, as the background is really pushed far into the background by the strength of the foreground.

 

and this:

 

is really only good for Light Green, as the foreground text is pretty minimal, and saying "white" is a bit of a stretch!

 

 

as a basic rule - the dominant colour is the first one to pop in your head, when you glance at it with unfocussed eyes -that's how I judge them, and how I determine when I get asked!

 

 

 

 

Transparent Backgrounds are not Grey!

 

While some (usually older) games appear to have grey backgrounds on the site, be careful, and make sure you actually click through to see the "clean" image.

 

God of war may look like this in your Game List:

 

   but click on that image, and it is actually this: 

 

that means it is good for Orange, but not Grey.

 

 

 

 

Silver is Grey / Gold is Orange or Tan!

 

There is no metallic colour categories, so anything metallic falls under its "matte equivalent"

 

this is Gold, but should fall under Tan

 

This is Silver, but therefore falls under Grey.

 

 

 

 

White on Black / Black on White

 

Images that are black and white, always fall on their backgrounds.

 

 

This:

is only good for Black.

 

This:

is only good for White.

 

 

 

DLCs with the same (or very similar) images

 

DLC packs are good for a slot, provided their specific lists are finished in the timeframe of the event.

If, for example, you have finished a game in years past, but finish the DLC, which has the same image as the main game, this year, that's fine.

 

Equally, if you finish a main game, AND the DLC this year, and they have different images, both of those are fine.

 

The only thing that isn't okay, is if you finish a main game, and a DLC, which have the same image, (or two DLCs with the same image) this year. 

 

Those can be use to fill the same colour slot on two separate rainbows (if you are going for a prestige, as are doing multiple lists this year) - but they CAN'T be used for two different colour boxes - even if the image has multiple legitimate interpretations of what is the "dominant" colour.

 

The reason for this is - while an image might have multiple interpretations (and might be used by two different participants in two different boxes) - each INDIVIDUAL participant is declaring that they believe ONE colour is "dominant" for that image. 

A single person cannot believe the same image has two "dominant" colours - so a single image has to cover ONE colour only, for each participant!

 

This:

for example, could be considered White or Grey... but since it's DLCs all use the same image, any single player must consider it either White or Grey. 

Not both.

 

 

 

 

hope that clears up some things, and is done early enough for anyone to make changes they need to!

First two games of the year! Feel like its better to update every 2 games rather than every game. Idk, just feel thats more efficient so I will stick to that

Didnt realize how hard it was to determine their colors but was able to figure it out with some help. Had a hard time determining GTA 3 due to its color between blue and gray. Ultimately came down to light blue but took some time to set it correspondingly. 

 

 

Brown (Biomutant) was a very interesting game to say the least. Its fun and quirky, but it becomes a chore towards the end. A lot of bugs and glitches but nothing too detrimental, just chops the flow of the game. I had a fun time with it, the story kept me intrigued but i feel like it fell short, felt it couldve had much more potential. Overall I would recommend this game to anyone looking for a stress reliever, something to rest the mind from a hard and tedious platinum like RDR2 or something along those lines.

 

Next was Grand Theft Auto 3 Definitive Edition. 5th time playing this my entire life but anyone who is anyone has played this game at least once (or I hope so for the sake of this "review") so its not much different than the original. The graphics were "updated" but thats about it. This definitely felt like a quick cash grab from Rockstar as they couldnt even implement simple upgrades. Their excuse to "keep things like the original" was just a lazy excuse to do the bare minimum. Although I did enjoy it because of nostalgia and being groundbreaking at the time, much time was needed to do a proper upgrade to this classic game. This game is an all time classic and I will always recommend experiencing it. Because of this game, Rockstar was able to build off of this template and create a gargantuan mammoth known today as GTA5 (GTA6 will break the internet). This one will stress you out towards the platinum but wont make you pull your hair.

Had so much trouble on mobile, i was steaming!

Had no other choice but to come to my PC and update the post. Thanks for trying to help, figured it out at the end but man was it a chore. Never posted pictures before so had to do trial and error.

Howdy all!

 

While I am still on the fence about what to do with my White selection of Goat Simulator I have gone and got a game for my Light Blye section done, while there is some pink on the image it was the Light Blue background that drew me in the most for this event.

 

 

P.S Don't ask me why they decided to use the save data image as the trophy list on PS4 while the VITA got an proper image.

Since I decided to do some random cleanup while waiting for Persona 3 and now I got into the mood of DB Xenoverse, I kind of decided to get done with it for good (still quite far on the Supers grind), and now I'm not really sure on what I should use it.. so, a little question:

 

At my eyes DB Xenoverse is mainly Goldish, closer to Orange, but not really Orange, Yellow or Tan..

 

 

Ideally I would use it for Yellow, since I kind of plan DB Z Kakarot for Orange, but still unsure what's really the main colour in it..

I'd say orange is the clearest - but there is enough yellow there to be acceptable as that ?

Two more games added to the list!

 

Red: Marvel's Spider-Man

I platted the game in 2019. I bought the physical copy at the time because it was at a discount for $20 during Days of Play sale, and sold it after obtaining as many trophies as I could. Yes, I was a cheapass gamer and still am. ?

 

I revisited it this year, and completed it yesterday. It took me 10 hours. Frankly speaking, the DLCs were more or less the same as the main game, so it was great. I still found, however, hunting crimes in Marvel's New York was kinda boring. Best part of the DLCs was actually the Screwball challenges. They were varied, and provided a nice challenge.

 

Orange: Stray

The Asian stack of the pawsome cat game. I believe almost everyone on PSNP has played it.

Yeah - it's fine to swap games over if needed - though really that should be more about getting the "gradient" colours to work (a light blue to a dark blue, if a lighter one comes along, etc.)

 

I don't mind someone swapping one over if they want to use a different dominant colour in ones that legit have two possibilities - just try to stick with what you really think is the dominant colour, not just a colour that appears on it though.  Obviously some have legit multiple acceptable colours, but not every game will be able to fit a slot...

....and since there's a year (and badges will reflect "prestige levels) there's always a second or third round if you have multiple games done of the same colours ?

Nice one so far - I'd swap Shady Part of Me over to Black though, as for Black and white only images, the background is always the deciding factor - there's a lot more black on that one, and once the rainbow is complete, it'll look much better in that spot!

Looks like everyone is hard at work! I wanted to form the rainbow with as many games from my backlog as possible and free much contemplation and some very valuable friendly input, I've successfully filled up most spaces by now. In case that anyone here curiously fancies a potential dash of inspiration, here are my tentative plans.

White: Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni JP This is my first dive into a JP game, though my second time platting this game. The menus were a bit difficult to navigate, but once I memorized them they weren't that bad. Was a bit worried about it being in Japanese, but since there were no missable trophies, it wasn't that bad. Good news for the other JP games I have bought to play. Now I need to find an EU cartridge for full stack...

 

I have Biomutant done as well, but I can't decide what color I want it as, so it is pending right now. Lol.

I had to redo my list since I couldn't find my last update, so here it is. Also, my dreams will have the Mos Eisly Cantina music as background music for the rest of my frankin' life. ? Also, with another platinum, another shiny Pokemon is banished for... another red Pokemon in Charmander.

 

Seriously, do not play LEGO The Skywalker Saga unless you had watched some of the original movies and want to experience the other movies without paying for Netflix. I watched the original trilogy in my teens when it first came out and never watched the other six movies. I had played a little of LEGO The Force Awakens on an old account but discarded it after seeing it had DLC trophies. This title helped me get up to speed on what happened before and after the original movies. I'm sure a lot of people hate the other six movies but I didn't feel like they were that bad. Then again I didn't actually see the movies. This title cauterized the really bad parts of the whole thing.

 

But seriously, this is the largest and most grindy LEGO game ever. And I have platinumed both LEGO Harry Potter titles which need to be together to top the amount of levels you have to deal with, but at least there was no voice acting. Still, I'm impressed by the voice acting here. I think the problem was that the PS4 version is living in the same boat as Pokemon Scarlet and Violet(and Violet crashed on me during one boss battle so there goes its deathless track record!) - tons of lag and frame rate issues, especially in heavily populated areas like Coruscant, risk of crashing and even a couple of clip issues. Also, some of the level challenges were painful and annoying. The Jango Fett chase through the asteroid field has one which requires you not to get by a certain attack and one Last Jedi level requires you to avoid getting spotted and take out a bunch of soldiers and the guide I was using was stupid.

 

Still, it's a good title and the way they used various roles for characters was pretty clever, although the Dark Side characters felt no different than the Jedi.

 

With that, my colorful list is 50% done before the end of the first month... the remaining 50% is going to be taken slowly and take up the rest of the year as they are ALL JRPGS with 100 hour completion times.

...So I got a Light Green in the form of Hoa (PS4) It's game number 5 for me and bought as part of the sale that's just gone.

 

Is it a good game? My opinions are strangely similar to Teacup which was my green game. It's a very pretty game, and I mean movie quality pretty, if beauty is enough of a reason to get a game, this is an easy recommendation. But when it comes to story, this game comes up short; Hoa is only about two hours long and the dialogue is very minimal, basically just consisting telling you how to use a new move or to go to the next area, the only piece of tangible story is the final cutscene. The gameplay itself is fine, it's a puzzle platformer, it works fine, but isn't interesting until the final chapter and never challenging.

Knocked off another color with Afterparty for Purple! Originally I was thinking this would be my pink, but the second I had the image in the box it was clear it's waaaay more purple than pink. Back to the drawing board on that one! And with a few of the categories actually. But hey, at least there's plenty of time to figure it out!

Cat Quest should probably be for Light Blue though,  with Last Campfire in Black, as there's much more of those colours on them...
