Popular Post Hurricane_Tanya
I finished Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion and Man of Medan. Turnip Boy was a fun and funny little dungeon crawler. It was a very simple game, no need for a guide, just follow the story and talk to npcs for side quests. The post game is a little trickier with an endless dungeon and a trophy that requires beating a random boss that only has a chance of showing up after beating the 4 main bosses, but it was still an easy game and if you find all the health upgrades before that point then there is no issue. Man of Medan was fun the first couple of times I played it, movie mode with my partner, and shared story with a friend. I did both playthroughs without looking at a guide and managed to avoid getting most of the trophies including the death specific and heart/head only runs. So that meant another 3 full playthroughs plus some partial playthroughs for collectibles. That made it less fun, although I still enjoyed when I got a story segment I hadn’t seen before. That brings my points up to 13.5. Good luck everyone

be_minor
Less than a week left in May and I have a bit of an update with four new completions. I finished off the last Endless mode trophy for Yet Another Zombie Defense HD due to a couple of randoms joining my game, thankfully. I also grinded out 16k ridden kills to finish up Back 4 Blood’s platinum. (I’m counting it as complete, even with missing DLC, because I’m okay with 96% overall and likely won’t go back to finish the new acts on No Hope.) Then I played through a couple PS+ Extra games I’ve been wanting to experience for a while. Life Is Strange: True Colors is my new favorite in the series, even though I have yet to play LiS 2. Spoiler Completed (JAN) Cult of the Lamb (JAN) Bugsnax (JAN) Pinball Heroes (FEB) Saints Row: The Third (MAR) Hogwarts Legacy (MAR) Bunny Raiders (MAR) Dysmantle (MAR) Ape Escape (MAR) Biomutant (APR) The Artful Escape (APR) Omno (MAY) Horizon Forbidden West [DLC] (MAY) Yet Another Zombie Defense HD (MAY) Back 4 Blood (MAY) Life Is Strange: True Colors (MAY) Deliver Us The Moon Backlog Afterparty Chernobylite Child of Light Control: Ultimate Edition Cthulhu Saves Christmas Cyberpunk 2077 Dark Souls Remastered Deathloop Dishonored 2 - 18% Dragon Age: Inquisition Dragon Age Origins - 73% (DLC) Elden Ring Final Fantasy VII - 2% God of War Ragnarok Gravity Rush Remastered - 4% Hades Holy Potatoes! grumpaluffagus_1
And that's another game done for May with Guardians of the Galaxy. The story was everything I could want out of a Guardians game, and while I kind of want a sequel, I don't know if they could deliver everything that a follow up to this game deserves. The combat never stopped being clunky for me, especially with the RNG combat trophies and the one that required me to remap the buttons on my controller, and I would love to see this system reworked if there ever is a sequel. Either way, it's on to the next one on the backlog.
Popular Post StraightVege
On 5/16/2023 at 6:44 AM, BlazzingWind said: Darling Baphomet and KillerUni are duking it out over first place while StraightVege snuck past both Hurricane_Tanya AND jones to secure third place! Hurricane_Tanya is still in the top four but Crancian, jones, and Hitman are all not far behind! Ooh, quite a battle this year! It's obviously anyone's game at this stage, but the top two competitors seem nigh unbeatable... Nevertheless, I won't give up easily! Back just in time for an end of May progress update, I've beaten two more games since my previous reply: Ghost of a Tale and The Persistence! Time to rattle on about games yet again (just can't help myself, can I?). Got caught doing two playthroughs of this third-person adventure, since the no damage trophy seems to be rather finicky. At the very least, I can say this development team didn't fail to craft an intriguing fantasy universe, which I hope to see further fleshed out in the upcoming sequel. However, don't go in expecting a substantive indie stealth experience similar to the Styx series of games like I did, or you might be left every bit as dissatisfied. For an E-rated title about talking rodents that stand on two legs, this is a surprisingly grim medieval fantasy world, where the bigger and stronger rats have almost entirely subjugated mice and erased their culture. You control a particularly courageous little minstrel mouse by the name of Tilo, who was unjustly thrown in prison after his singer wife, Merra, refused to perform for a cruel rat baron. Naturally, you intend to bust out of the slammer and find her, before something horrible happens; the couple tragically lost their son to a venomous spider bite in the past already, which is part of what makes Tilo so driven. Really wish they had done more with the interesting setting, as there's this whole subplot about a mouse rebellion rising up against the rat ruling class, which is never explored beyond some NPC comments and lore entries. Maybe they're keeping it in the bag for the next game? Voice acting likely would've bolstered GoaT greatly, too, since Tilo performs historically meaningful songs for certain characters as a necessary part of progression, and these would've been so much more powerful with actual, competent singing. Alas, the game's dialogue is exclusively text, therefore I had to use my rusty old imagination. Cleverer and faster than the lumbering rat guards could ever hope to be, Tilo swiftly scampers from nook to cranny slipping past them, while occasionally creating distractions via various thrown objects like glass bottles, which can also be hurled directly into the exposed noggins of the sentries who—due either to foolishness or being under-equipped—lack helmets, knocking them cold for a brief time. Disappointingly, this adequate (at best) stealth gameplay lasts for all of 45 minutes, as you escape the starting jail and traverse a castle, before devolving into something more akin to Hitman in quicksand. Soon after, you'll assemble the dreaded solider disguise from scattered segments of plate armor, and spend most of the remaining 8-10 hours plodding around at a snail's pace, backtracking to complete tedious fetch quests that feel straight out of a bargain bin RPG. Sure, it's "realistic" that a comparatively tiny fella like Tilo would move slowly in oversized rat armor, but it's just shameless playtime padding in an otherwise short game, and why implement stealth mechanics to begin with if you're barely going use them? You can eventually obtain superior gold armor, allowing Tilo to sprint while disguised, but seeing as the game is practically over by then, it's almost pointless. This disguise system isn't even utilized to it's fullest potential, intermittently requiring you to dress up as a pirate or king when deceiving specific NPCs, before begrudgingly donning the painfully slow armor once again. There's plenty of jank to annoy you, as well, like how thrown items inexplicably collide with surrounding surfaces instead of whatever the unreliable auto-targeting is supposedly locked onto. An irritating oversight indeed, because you can only carry a limited quantity of objects at once, and wasting them in the process of defeating one spider enemy means yet more backtracking to collect additional resources. Then, there's the infuriating fact that saving the game is only possible while hidden in containers, which Tilo will stupidly jump out of upon reloading the save... better hope an enemy isn't looking when you do. Mainly an issue early on, though, since you'll be disguised in most circumstances. Tilo does unlock a smattering of character upgrades throughout the game, but most of them felt basically useless, other than the ones that let you carry more stuff, and highlight interactive objects with a button press. Quite humdrum from a gameplay and mechanical perspective. Overall, it feels like a game with an identity crisis, unable to decide whether it ought to focus on adventure-puzzle, stealth, or RPG elements, therefore doing none of them particularly well. The singular aspect I did enjoy was navigating the interconnected map filled with shortcuts leading back to previous sections, reminiscent of Dark Souls. It's always impressive when you open a gate in some gloomy tunnel, only to realize you're in familiar territory again, and the densely packed environment offers a satisfying sense of exploration, discovery, and mystery. Handholding is minimal, lacking the usual objective markers and such you'd expect in a modern game, which actually works well here. If you do happen to get stuck, the local blacksmith sells some hints and maps, for a modest fee, and coins are plentiful enough to make this affordable. Finally, the game is prone to crashing, so saving frequently is wise. I'll conclude fairly by stating that Ghost of a Tale is visually impressive for an indie game, featuring brilliant level design, and a fascinating world of rats vs mice with a looming supernatural threat. That said, it leaves much to be desired in the gameplay department, and unless the follow-up is substantially improved/polished, I'm in no hurry to play it. Despite the moniker, it shouldn't require a great deal of persistence to finish this short, but mostly sweet, sci-fi FPS roguelite with survival horror elements. Taking place on a stranded research vessel in deep space, the game sees you skulking through a meager four procedurally generated decks of the eerie ship, sneakily siphoning stem cells from the backs of deranged clone enemies in the darkness, and crafting limited use weapons (everything from combat knives to gravity guns) at vending machines, with the ultimate goal of repairing various malfunctioning systems to get The Persistence moving once again. It often reminded me of System Shock 2, which certainly isn't a bad game to be compared to. The eponymous craft was in the midst of experimenting with dark matter, until a catastrophic event caused by a black hole left it in this dire state. Now defective, violent clones of the crew are being constantly auto-printed, and they're running amok on every deck. The only sane individuals remaining are the uploaded personalities of two people: security officer Zimri Eder (you), and engineer Serena Karim, thus the grim task of locating deceased crew members to extract their DNA falls to Zimri, allowing her digitalized consciousness to inhabit their cloned bodies (the aforementioned stem cells are necessary to construct them). Each body has unique traits Zimri can use as her own, so the character system is similar to Mortal Shell in this regard—finding VIP corpses unlocks new bodies to control. Easily the most important one to play as for progression is your disembodied buddy, Serena, whose corporeal form significantly increases the amount of loot you'll find. This bizarre situation obviously poses some interesting existential questions, so it feels like a missed opportunity that the game fails to delve into them meaningfully, in the way Frictional's SOMA did. It's eventually mentioned that the company has been keeping clones of its employees without their permission for years, but this revelation is never developed into anything. Seems like the stage could be set for a potential sequel, though. As a consequence of once being a VR-only title, the controls initially need an adjustment period, but fast become quite intuitive. Opening doors, interacting with machinery, and picking up items only requires that you stare at them for a moment, which defied my expectations by NOT being irritating, and I'm actually surprised more games haven't done it this way. Instead of sprinting, you can travel more quickly by teleporting short distances, similar to Dishonored's blink ability, which is incredibly useful for popping behind enemies to stealth kill them with a stem cell extraction. When you inevitably get clobbered or blasted to death by an angry mutant of some kind, the game's meta-progression systems let you upgrade the stats of your future clones, and improve your equipment using obtained schematics, which leads to becoming overpowered before you know it. This definitely isn't the most challenging roguelite out there, so the usual reason you'll die is simple recklessness, because you failed to adequately check the room ahead with your Supersense power (it highlights enemies through walls) before entering, and got yourself sniped by a Listener. These partially headless foes wielding rapid-fire pistols are probably the biggest threat to deal with, alongside Weepers, who behave similarly to the witches from Left 4 Dead. While cautiously traversing the dimly lit wrecked laboratories and machine rooms, random events such as hissing steam pipes, deafening falling panels, and automatic doors slamming in your face will occur to startle you. The Persistence is surely adept at jump scares... for a while. After seeing the few haunted house tricks the game has up its sleeve, these gimmicks just become obnoxious and predictable, so it's unfortunate they overused them shamelessly. If, like me, you've gotten hardened against scares by playing far too many horror games, you'll get sick of them even sooner than the average player is likely to. One sneaky little enemy type even likes to jump out and scream in your ear, which became annoying enough for me to keep an instant-kill melee weapon on hand at all times. "Eh, shaddup!" By and large, there are certainly worse ways to spend 15-20 hours of your life. For a roguelite, it's light on content, lacks significant challenge or replayability, and the horror aspects wear thin long before the conclusion. While the game does nothing outstanding, it's still a solid sci-fi romp that I had a reasonably fun time figuring out. I've no idea how it holds up in VR, of course, but it was good enough to be worth playing in the standard mode. Like the above game, though, it can crash, corrupting your saves in this case. Frequent save backups are a must, really. Remember when games were stable? Whew, and that'll do it for now. I'm also adding an old PS3 DLC to my list for next month, which I've been meaning to complete for years, so this event seems like the perfect excuse to finally go for it: the Fearless add-on for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale! Admittedly, this amounts to little more than paying two bucks for a laughably easy silver trophy, but that's what completionist derangement syndrome will do to a person. HollowCalamity
Update - 1 June: Completed: Stray [May 7th] – Really enjoyed this one! I bought my PS5 right around the time the iam8bit version of this was up for preorder, so this is technically the first game I bought for the console (even though it wouldn't arrive for around six months). I think any review I give will be biased simply by the fact that I really love cats, and so the novelty of having one be the main character didn't get old for me in the way it might for others. Regardless, I found the story surprisingly emotional, and the environments quite interesting to explore. Transistor [May 10th] – Earlier this year, I played Bastion, also by Supergiant Games. I like to play titles from a specific developer in release order in order to see what improves (and what doesn't). Transistor started off as more of a mixed experience comparatively – I loved the setting and music, but found the combat sort of clunky at the beginning. The skills the game starts you off with are...not great, to put it bluntly. However, after about an hour, things really clicked and I started putting together different builds. The hybrid real-time/tactical combat took a while to get used to, but eventually I found a great rhythm for handling fights. Basically, this is one that takes a bit to reach its full potential, but when it does, it's an incredible experience. The game's not afraid to let you construct a ludicrously overpowered build, which I appreciated. Final Fantasy III [May 22nd] – Finishing up the NES trilogy with one of the few FF games I'd never played before. I don't really have much to say about this one – it was interesting to see the first iteration of a proper job system, I suppose, and the Pixel Remaster graphics/music were beautiful as always. Since this was my first time playing III, I don't really have a connection to it the way I'm sure many do. Still enjoyable, though. Final Fantasy IV [May 27th] – In my opinion, this is when the series really starts to show the DNA we know and love today. I like the previous games, but this is the earliest FF that completely clicked for me. So many innovations present along with the leap to the SNES (although that visual improvement isn't visible with the Pixel Remasters, you can look up screenshots and see a substantial difference) – the first iteration of the ATB system and an actually in-depth story (surprisingly high-quality for the time). IV, V, and VI are all amazing in different ways, and I'm looking forward to revisiting those last two this month. Furi [June 1st] – So, this is probably my favorite indie game I've ever played. LOVED the combat and the music – especially the music during the entire final boss. The hints of story were so interesting to watch unfold, even if that wasn't the main focus. This game is challenging, but incredibly rewarding when you finally take down a boss. Ever since I first played the original Dark Souls, I've looked for a game that would give me that same feeling of overcoming titanic odds, with fights that would fill me with adrenaline. Finally, I found this one. There is also a very tangible feeling of improvement as you play. Cannot recommend this one enough – the trophy requirements look daunting, but the game is (mostly) much fairer than I was expecting. Best game I've played in a very long time. Adding: Pyre – as I mentioned earlier, I'm working my way through Supergiant's releases. I know this one has a bit more of a mixed reception, but I'm still looking forward to it. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII – Reunion – I actually never played CC! It was on sale so I picked up a copy and may as well add it to the list. Stories Untold – I'd like to play No Code's previous titles before the release of Silent Hill: Townfall, but I understand that this game is quite short, so if anyone feels it shouldn't qualify, I would actually understand that and be fine with it.) Metro 2033 Redux – I've never played this series, but I've heard good things. The Redux pack (2033 + Last Light) was on sale recently for some insanely low price so I figured I'd give them a shot. Marvel's Spider-Man – Re-adding it because the new one actually looks pretty cool – I wasn't originally going to pick it up at launch but now I think I will, meaning I'll need to knock out the first one. Edit: I also had a question regarding DLC – I completed the DLC for The Last of Us: Remastered (MP + Grounded + Left Behind) while I was working on the base game. Would that count separately or would I have had to do them at different times? No worries either way, just curious since some games I'm playing soon have separate DLC and I'd like to min/max points. BlazzingWind
On 5/20/2023 at 8:31 AM, Psy-Tychist said: This does seem interesting and in line with what I have wanted to do this year which is clear up my backlog and reduce the number of games just sat on my Library. Quick questions: 1. Is there a limit to the types of games you can put on your list? For example do games that are Shovelware count towards points or are they ignored? 2. When posting a list you can only put games that are below 33% completion to begin with or is that flexible? 3. With games that are unstarted and not on the profile, do they all have to be declared before completion or can they be completed and just added on after? I'll start with 10 games to begin with that I will begin in June, currently I have no WiFi and no working TV, so it will have to start in June. 1. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle - 25% 2. Creaks - 18% 3. Captain Cat - 18% 4. Super Exploding Zoo - 25% 5. Remothered: Tormented Fathers - 9% 6. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice - 9% 7. Underland: The Climb - 10% 8. Sokocat Combo - 12% 9. Far Cry 3: Classic Edition - 31% 10. The Dark Prophecy - 0% My work schedule is a bit erratic, I apologize for not getting to you sooner! Welcome to the event - grab a place in our little band of Backlog Slayers and make yourself at home! To answer your first question: This is actually the first time someone has asked about quick games/shovelware. And as of right now, there is no ban on them. If others raise an issue about it, we can have a vote and add it to the rules. But right now as it goes, they are counted like any other game. For your second question: When FIRST posting your starting list, you can have 3 games that are above 33% in your list. After that, any games added (up to the limit of 50) need to be between 0-33%. The only exception to this rule is in August (April already passed), when you can add games that are above the 33% cap. 3rd question: Games HAVE to be posted before going over the 33% completed mark to count. It can be as simple as doing a post of 'adding game x to my list'. I am off tomorrow so will have the update (and your list inclusion on the first page) posted tomorrow. Awesome completions so far! For DLC to count as a separate game: The DLC must be completed 2 months after the main game was awarded points. So if you completed TLoU for June's point, you would only get points for the DLC if you completed it starting in September. Also keep in mind that 'DLC' is considered a group so it will only be +1 or +0.5 points (depending on when in the month it is completed) once in any combination of completeness. Great work on the Final Fantasy Pixel Collection so far, I'm also playing 5 right now. They really are great games to revisit, even now.

Well played, and I wholeheartedly agree! Among the most exhilarating bosses in gaming history, accompanied by bangin' synthwave tunes to rival even Hotline Miami's exceptional soundtrack. In particular, defeating The Burst on hard difficulty took everything I had (that final phase is nasty), but it sure felt great to finally triumph. I recall having some issues with how the dash works, but you get used to it. Man, PS+ included some fantastic games in those days. Following a strong performance in May, I'm attempting the keep the momentum going this month, despite being really tired lately. Knocked a couple of things off the list so far: The Fearless DLC is now squared away, after 8 years of letting it collect dust on my profile. Literally all I needed to do was start a practice round on the "new" arena as Nariko, set the super move to level 3, and press the R2 button. Two dollars well spent, am I right? ? The PS3 store is barely held together by duct tape at this point, so navigating it to purchase this add-on was the hardest part. cOmpLeTIoN! I'll be glad when you're dead, you rascal you. As someone who long ago lost interest in GTA-style games, and never particularly enjoyed Mob flicks, Mafia is obviously not the sort of thing which would normally pique my curiosity. I detest open world busywork, and considering my own family's quite checkered past on the Italian side, I suppose the subject just hits too close to home. Nowadays, I find it rather difficult to sympathize with villainous characters, making it tough to enjoy this type of media. However, I recalled reading somewhere that it's all killer, no filler, delivering an excellent story with stellar voice performances, so the glowing reviews—alongside my desire to extract some value from my unsatisfactory PlayStation Plus subscription—inspired me to give it a shot regardless. Having now finished it several days ago, I'd say that these claims at least partially hold up, and I didn't regret my time with it. Told via flashbacks in noir fashion as the protagonist recounts his unbelievable escapades to a hardboiled detective over lunch, the game's story is fairly ordinary genre stuff, but well composed and paced. Beginning in the early 1930s, during the tail end of the Prohibition, you step into the shoes of hardworking Sicilian immigrant, Tommy Angelo. After another long day of picking up fares as a cabbie in Illinois, Tommy has an unfortunate encounter with a couple of gangsters, who force him to be their getaway driver at gunpoint. Of course, a rival Mafia faction isn't thrilled about this, and end up trying to murder him days later, so he desperately turns to the same mobsters for both protection and revenge. Quickly accepted into the Salieri family, Tom soon realizes he can live a far more luxurious life as their wheelman, and before he knows it, he's in too deep, carrying out gruesome hits and shooting at cops. While he's clearly morally conflicted about this business, it's not a life one can easily step away from, and the prospect of again struggling as a Great Depression cab driver isn't exactly appealing after being a made man. Ignoring the grandiose action scenes, Mafia thankfully doesn't glorify organized crime, showing the ugly aspects for what they are. The game succeeds at getting across the point that poverty and the misguided war on drugs only fuel crime. Most of the acting is indeed top notch, although a few characters sound like comical stereotypes, or just plain bored with reading their lines. It's true that the campaign is undiluted, consisting of one expertly crafted mission after another, and even allowing you to skip most of the boring driving segments, throwing you directly into dramatic scenes, white-knuckle car chases, and tense shootouts. On the other hand, it's necessary to spend a number of hours in the game's "Free Ride" sandbox mode, scouring the city for hundreds of useless collectibles if you want the platinum. A shame they couldn't resist doing this, because the game was already just fine without the filler content. "Please, explore every inch of our beautiful world! LOOK AT IT!" Ah, well; they certainly did create a convincing 1930s urban sprawl here, bursting with detail. Everything from the endless billboards and advertisements plastered around, to the retro cars and storefronts, and suitably surly citizenry make the fictional Lost Heaven feel like a living, breathing place. The building interiors look every bit as authentic, thus I couldn't stop gawking at the restaurants, pawn shops, and garages, which reminded of real places I've visited. Mafia is not only visually stunning, but the high quality sound design does its part in immersing you into the experience, as well. Park your car after a long drive, and you'll hear the pinging of cooling metal under the hood; tread near a backyard fence, and the barking of dogs protecting their territory might startle you; walk down an apartment hall, and the shouting of a heated argument or some hanky-panky going on emanates from behind the closed doors. For a remake of a now 20-year-old game, Mafia is technically impressive on many levels. Where the game does reveal its dated origins somewhat are the mechanics: the cover system and aiming controls feel clunky in gunfights (Uncharted, this ain't), fisticuffs battles are very simplistic and a bit awkward, while the vehicles aren't the most responsive to drive (they're old, to be fair). Polish is lacking in a few areas, with objectives that can fail for no discernible reason, cars flipping over at the slightest provocation, and it's actually possible for Tommy to suddenly fall through the map. Fortunately, Mafia isn't particularly challenging, even on Classic difficulty, featuring generous checkpoints and strong aim assist, therefore these issues aren't a major hindrance. 19 hours later, I was done, with minimal fuss. All in all, it was perfectly fine, but still not quite my cup of tea. I have no doubt the many "crime simulator" fans out there will find Mafia to be a masterpiece, though, and the tremendous passion and work poured into making it is extremely evident. Now that, I gotta respect, paisano. ? While I'm here, let's add Trek to Yomi to my backlog, since it's coming to PS+ soon! -Completed- 1. Dreaming Sarah - January 9th (+1.0) 2. Darling Baphomet
Been a bit since I updated last! Haven't really been feeling like writing out a post here. I bought Nightmare Reaper as soon as it released, and after ten days of playing it, I am now (well, more like a bit over a week ago) proud to say that I am the first achiever! Nightmare Reaper was a fantastic boomer shooter roguelike (well, probably more accurately called a dungeon crawler) with just an absolutely ridiculous amount of content and love put into it. The gunplay is solid, the randomized loot is fun, and it's full of inventive ideas like having retro minigames instead of skill trees - your first skill tree is a Super Mario World overworld map, with each skill being a level you have to complete once you have enough money. Besides that, there's an absolutely absurd amount of content in this game - you play three levels in each biome, and there's close to 30 biomes, and on top of that there are over 80 different base weapons, which drop with a variety of perks, including projectile modifiers which lead to hilarious weapons like the absurdly powerful but incredibly annoying rubber chicken machine gun that carried me through most of my arena waves. (At the start of my second playthrough I sold it, figuring that I'd quickly find a better weapon since NG+ has weapons drop with damage multipliers, only to spend half the playthrough trying and failing to find a new gun until I finally found... a rubber chicken minigun which was even more powerful and even more annoying.) Anyway, solid game overall, and definitely got my money's worth even at the somewhat steep price of 30$. Hero Land on the other hand........ ech. I mentioned in my last post that it's an amusing RPG parody with hilarious dialogue. That remains true. But the gameplay! Good fucking god, the gameplay. It's essentially an autobattler - you equip your heroes with weapons and choose items before going into a dungeon, then your heroes automatically choose attacks and such. You can occasionally interject to use items or give them specific commands, but this is on a cooldown, and if you grind a bit and make sure you have a healer, you'll barely even need to do this. To make it worse, all of the dungeons are almost identical. You get a bunch of linear encounters, then occasionally you can choose one of three encounters (sometimes twice in a row) before returning to the linear path. Then you get one of three random events, and fight a boss. The dialogue is, again, fantastic, but it's just far too sparse and by the end of the game won't be anywhere near enough to make up for just wanting to get done with the thing - this isn't helped by the fact that you have to collect every rare drop from every monster and every dungeon, which is difficult enough even with save scumming. I usually love games that I can watch while playing shows, too - but this one is just too god damn boring. At least it gave me an excuse to whip out my Switch and play the new Advance Wars remake. Fantastic set of games, by the way. Whew, those were two long ass games. Going to do a shorter game next, I think. I think I will add Road 96 and Two Point Hospital to my backlog. ... Yeah, I know Two Point Hospital is a grind. I can't help myself. StraightVege
Nice, congrats on securing first achiever! Personally, the best I've ever placed was 2nd for The Binding of Isaac. I definitely ought to pick up Nightmare Reaper eventually; sounds like exactly my kind of nonsense. ? Minor update: Among the now countless games influenced largely by Thatgamecompany's emotionally provocative style of narrative driven titles, The First Tree opens with dialogue from a grieving man named Joseph, awoken one night by a vivid dream, which he then recounts the events of to his concerned significant other, Rachel. The gameplay occurs in this parallel, symbolic dream world, where you control a fox searching for her missing cubs throughout various wilderness landscapes, accompanied by wistful piano and violin music. As the fox follows guiding star collectibles, digging up important objects from Joseph's past buried in the earth, you're rewarded with more bits of the conversation, detailing his troubled upbringing in rural Alaska, much of which Rachel wasn't aware of. These clearly aren't professional actors using high-end recording equipment, but their earnest attempt is almost endearing. Estranged from his father who recently died, Joseph feels terribly guilty about failing to be a better son while he still had the opportunity. Since my dad was a nasty piece of work, the story didn't quite hit me where it hurts in the intended way, actually striking me as rather sappy. I found myself thinking "this guy didn't know how good he had it as a kid," but to be fair, everyone's problems are relative, and this is obviously a deeply personal work by a fledgling developer, so I'm sorry to be overly mean in my assessment. It did manage to dredge up some memories of vanishingly rare moments when he could be kind or reasonable, at least. Indeed, making things right with the people you care about, if at all possible, is preferable to a life of regret. "Here one day, gone the next" is a painfully true expression, I can tell ya. With The First Tree being more of an experiential journey than a game, exploring the dream isn't particularly engaging, and would've benefited from additional elements to push it beyond being an uninspired fox walking simulator. Occasionally, you're required to do some extremely basic platforming, with assistance from butterfly clusters that boost your jump height. Otherwise, it's around three hours of running through the forest to collect detritus, albeit in visually pleasing environments. Hardly the worst of these I've played, but the many imitators haven't risen to the heights of their inspirations just yet. Please take this post with a grain of salt, however, as it's written by a thoroughly jaded asshole; I don't doubt that plenty of folks found the game meaningful. Been thinking about trying the PS+ Extra tier for while, since upgrades are currently discounted. It would certainly give me more ammunition for this event, but I haven't decided yet. If it happens, I'll likely need to tweak my list significantly in August to keep things manageable... we'll see. Also downloaded Trek to Yomi today, so I'll probably tackle that one soon.

BlazzingWind
The Leaderboards have been updated as of 05/31: @KillerUni12 17.50 points ---> 18.00 points @Darling Baphomet 16.00 points ---> 16.50 points @StraightVege 13.00 points ---> 14.00 points @Hurricane_Tanya 11.00 points ---> @Crancian 14.00 points Alrighty, Killer and Darling are still duking it out for the top spot but Killer seems to be pulling slightly ahead as we head into June. And Hurricane got jumped by Crancian to land just short of StraightVege by a day in earning the points! We are here in June already, kinda feels like the year is just speeding bye at this point. But we have two new additions to our slaying group: @Psy-Tychist and @IO2-MGTP! I apologize for the late welcome, but glad to have you here all the same. Onto the nitty-gritty of this update - I revised the leaderboard on the first page to make it cleaner to scroll through and show those that are still actively participating or who have reached out and said they were leaving instead of just ghosting. As always, please check over your tables and make sure everything has been entered correctly (with the knowledge that this is updated through the end of May only). Some shoutouts - @freddie1989 I have looked back through the entire forum and I do not see where you indicated Life is Strange to be added to your list. Without being given notice of it being on your list, I can't give out points. @IO2-MGTP your list is fine, however you joined the day following earning the plat on Saints Row so that game can't be counted for the event. Also, please see the rule on duplicate games for points purposes. (For duplicate games to count, the game of the same name must be completed two months AFTER the first game of the same name). And to everyone participating in the event: Once again a giant 'thank you' for dealing with the lack of updates. Hopefully this month will be better/more consistent.
