I am wondering why leaderboard‘s bad ass can get 8000+ platinum？

I read a genius record news about ikemenzi‘s 8000+ platinum and congratulations！

But I knew two years ago，Hankoom just got 3000+ platinum in ten years may more.But now 8000+ platinum？What happened？

I noticed platinum included different PSN like NA,AS,JP,EU. So is this the reason that PSNP didn't include all PSN region before？

I am so confused so I sign up for this question，and nice to meet you guys！

Listen … leaderboards are pointless now given autopops and 5 min plats .

 

This website is better off disbanding the leaderboard and just having an authentic profile rating instead, it’s not healthy trying to catch up nor gaining notoriety for shoving 5 min plats on your profile and dealing with abusive / negative comments that follow.

 

Gaming is a hobby , not a job, just keep doing what your doing and you’ll find your happier gaming than being burnt out playing catch up

The short answer is that the amount of shovelware - that is, games designed to be played from zero to platinum in a matter of seconds - being released increased throughout 2021 and exploded around May of 2022. Prior to that, the shortest you'd get were 20-45 minute affairs, which while still extremely quick just weren't released in large enough volumes to be able to reach those kinds of numbers. For example, nowadays if you were so inclined, you could go from 0-500 platinums on a fresh account in a day or two from jumping food games alone. Even with so-called EZPZ games that were common before, that might take a month or two.

These numbers are becoming more and more absurd, in 2 years they will reach 20k platinums.

It's a fight for a throne that hardly anyone wants to sit on.

My English is bad and I’m sorry about it.My first playstation was PSP and then PSVita which I knew platinum first time.I liked this system and  platinum can make me feel my love for this game，like a mark or prove.I also liked this feeling when I got plats and I played several games I didn't like just for plats and that is boring and tired.So I gave up for number of plats，and only fighted for platinum when I played the games I enjoyed so much.

 

I don't like shovelwares.They insult platinum，they insult the name of GAME.

There's nothing badass about playing almost nothing but trash for years, it would be more impressive if it was 8,000 non-shovelware Plats instead of mostly "press X => Get Plat" style garbage. It's time that leaderboards in general were discontinued, because trying to even get close to the top is an expensive and ultimately futile endeavour that few people can ever hope to pull off.

I imagine that depends on what you count as shovelware and how deep down the rabbithole one wants to go. Some folks consider VNs shovelware, others include “joke” games (Mayo or Mr. Massagy), games that are just bad/poorly designed, anything EastAsiaSoft or Rata put out, or even Sony 1st party titles as “shovelware.”

I don't want to come across as condescending as we all have different reasons for doing what we do. However, what I find concerning about shovelware addicts is that - while they get the dopamine hit of that sweet platinum pop - they're not actually enjoying the game, itself. You could argue that the fun factor comes from the plat pop, but if you're in the thousands with that rubbish - for the sake of staying at the top of the leaderboards - then eventually those 30 second plats start to add up. In other words, these types of players literally don't have the time to play proper games.

 

There are some profiles where you can see there's quite a lot of shovelware but amongst them are also some legitimate games, so you can tell their shovelware plats are just palette cleansers / downtime. But for the addicts, do they not want to play hotly anticipated blockbusters like Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2? Do they not feel a sense of FOMO for missing out on critically acclaimed games like Jedi Survivor?

 

Presumably they got into this hobby because they once loved games for the sake of playing them but now they can't play a game unless the plat pops 30 seconds after starting? I just find that kind of tragic. It's the gaming equivalent of an artist who stops doing it for the love of the craft and eventually starts doing it for the money, except in the case of the shovelware addicts there's no real world benefits outside of virtual clout.

Again whilst @BlindMango and his crew can determine what’s shovelware and what’s not by labelling the game as SW, affecting leaderboards with this change would irk a lot of members  though it may be worth opening a debate about

People have been begging for this for years. It's really the only way to save the leaderboards. In their current state, it's like people comparing who has a bigger pile of junk.

I like how the possibility of someone just not wanting to play AAA games doesn't even factor into this at all. Either you play the AAA games like everyone else or you're wasting your time, I guess. 🤣

Those were just notable examples, obviously. Lots of wonderful AA and indies games out there as well that will give you far more enjoyment than Zippy the Circle or ZJ the Ball Sack or whatever it's called (I dunno, they all sound the same) stacked over and over.

Yeah, on second thought Jedi Survivor wasn't the best example given the absolute state of it at launch lol

But I heard that the game underneath was great, and I did enjoy Jedi Fallen Order at least.

I’m fairly certain those were just examples, chosen for name recognition more than anything else. I didn’t interpret it as implying it was a “waste of time” to play indie or non major AAA titles, but rather finding profiles where there are months if not years of nothing but Qump Jump and Jumping White Choco Santa Turbo stacks before you find anything that isn’t a five minute Platinum a trifle weird.

tbh I think the poster knew very well that I wasn't trying to say only AAA games are worth playing (I play and plat indie games all the time), so their comment was more of a deflection judging by their profile 👀 but I'll leave it at that!
