Financial Year Backlog Challenge Thing

Recommended Posts

Oh, so I've missed the final tier... And here I've thought I was finally done with the Item World... Well,  that's Disgaea for ya. Thanks!

Ya, usually there's only 40 ranks, but they add a new one in this version of Disgaea 4 (it wasn't in the original D4, nor in any other Disgaea game..).

It's a nice way to make us spend 6-10 extra hours in Item World..

It's never too late. :P

I'm not making much progress lately due to time consuming games but I did earn a few more trophies in Rune Factory Oceans. I'm also getting pretty close to finishing the story of that game.

Time for another update! :D Unfortunately there isn't alot to report on since last time, since I was busy at work (again) and will be for at least the next 2 weeks because of my work term report, so these updates won't feature much progress. As a result of this, I think I'll start doing what almost everyone else is and actually make some notes about the games that I did play since my last update. So, here it goes:

  • In DRIVECLUB, I managed to earn my 1 millionth drift point while making some progress in the a couple of the many DLC's this game has (thanks season pass that was included when I bought this game for $15). With that gold trophy in my cabinet, I am that much closer to my 2nd PS4 platinum and the 7th of my 10 platinum goal for this year
  • Key fragment #2 is now within my grasp in Hyperdimention Neptunia. After making some progress through Lastation (including attending a very special tech demo), I'm not in the dungeon which contains the Lastation Key Fragment and only have a very determined Black Heart standing between our party and the goal.
  • Along with exploring some of the menus I didn't realize existed, my bonds with Luka, Kaito & Meiko maxed out in Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f 2nd. While I would love to platinum this game before Diva X comes out (which I finally have pre-ordered), this one might take me another couple months to get, especially if the extra time it took me to plat the first project diva game is a good indicator.
  • Finally, while my trophies won't reflect it I have been trudging along through NBA 2k16. I started the Lakers Road to the Finals challenge about 2 weeks ago, and after finalizing a lineup I can work with (aka; all 8 of the required Lakers players are riding the bench while my star lineup of Gary Payton-Klay Thompson- Lebron- Anthony Davis- DPOY Marc Gasol dominates everyone) I've managed to get a 3-2 lead in the series, hopefully I'll win my next game and move on to the next round of the challenge. Also this week, while in a party with my 12 year old cousin, we both open some player packs just for shits & giggles and he managed to pull a DIAMOND Russell Westbrook (97 overall, plus there's a trophy for it), he's only had the game for a month (got it from PS+) while I've been trying for 6+ months and the best I've ever gotten was a regular old Lebron (94 overall).

July 23 Update

Hey all, haven't forgotten about this, but work has been kicking my butt. My gaming time has been severely limited but I have managed to complete Doom and started working i on Prison Architect

Completed: Doom [PS4]

Absolutely loved this game! Id definitely got this one right, combining new elements with the core that made Doom a classic in the 90s. The speed of the game is easily its biggest appeal, as each battle arena requires quick thinking and constant movement. The AI isn't overly smart, but each enemy type feels unique and understanding their patterns and prioritizing threats is key in harder difficulties.

In the past 2 days I finely managed to finish Natural Doctrine story, not really an interesting plot, but enough to keep throwing us from a map to the next, although the way the characters join seems random and not logical.

And even while I was playing on easy, there was little or no easy thing about the game, since usually 1-2 wrong placement of characters would end in a game over.. and I actually had to look up a vid on how to defeat the final boss without anyone dying.. as well as replay the highest lvl optional dungeon for an extra lvl..

Time for the Weekly update..

HAN_THE_DRAGON

Oh cool, this is still getting people on it. I'll update the post ASAP, there was a black out last night so I couldn't do it at home, and my laptop wouldn't connect at TAFE so I couldn't do it during lunch either, uggh.

Anywho, I'm finishing up on The Warriors at the moment, fuck I love that game, might go for my first 100% on this challenge with that game, it's just so much fun.

Oh well, this is why I didn't sign up lol - woke up with an 11% off email (what a strange percentage) for Rise of the Tomb Raider, I mean I couldn't say no for £31 shiny British pounds right? ;)

........ And then I accidentally (read 'I very purposefully and of my own free will') bought the Marvel Ultimate Alliance bund-a-ruu (read in Cartman's voice) for ps4.

At least I've confessed my sins, two months buying no games is a ridiculous new record for me so I'm hoping to get back on the wagon after this tremendous fall / face plant ha ha :D

Hehe, enjoy your new games. :D

But 2 months is really nothing unusual for me. Tomorrow I'm gonna be at exactly 4 months without buying a new game. :P That's not my record, though. (I'm not counting the one I won in the SongVote giveaway, though since I got it for free. :D)

And for the mandatory update: nothing new really besides some more progress in RFO and in the 2 guides I'm currently writing. I've been mostly studying and I also had the urge to rewatch Parasyte.

I'm done with Disgaea 4 (plat is currently on hold until #40, have only one trophy to pop), and have started Project DIVA f 2nd as my next Vita game.

So, what needs to be updated:

- Move Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited (PSV) into "Games Crossed From Backlog" category;

- Add Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA f 2nd (PSV) into "Current Progress" category.

Update for the past 2 days:

Nothing major trophy wise, only got 1 of the 2 NG+ trophies on Natural Doctrine... So far I'm almost 2/3rd into the story, so I expect to end tomorrow.. knowing how the maps work (since usually there's 2-3 stages to each map) makes it a bit easier, but I still die a few times on some maps.. but since I can use more or less the same strategy that I used on the 1st playthrough, this one is being much faster and easier, since even tough it's NG+, nothing carries over to it, only difference is a new side quest to get an alternative ending and 2 trophies..

Other than that, I went to check how my Agarest War Zero save file was, because I think that I may go back to it soon (still next in line is Thief.. and GTA5.. I think..). After checking it, I saw that I'm at the spot to farm the ATK+999 and MAG+999 abilities, but I'm unable to kill or capture the enemies on that area.. I think that was why I initially stopped playing it, but I need to figure out a way to do it.. or maybe I will do a playthrough on normal (I always keep a Clear Game save file just in case something happens..) to farm the items that get converted into those abilities and then start the EXTRA playthrough again (abilities don't carry over, but weapons should, so I think that it would work..)..

I would love getting in on this, sounds like a challenge right for me, but I already have more pre-ordered than allowed :-( No Man's Sky, South Park Fractured Butthole, Horizon Zero Dawn and PlayStation VR, the last of which is technically not a game but will probably include buying some games. Though truth be told I have almost completely paid for No Man's Sky already just by trading in games I've played through.

Perhaps next year...

I've been thinking about this contest some more and I would really like to join...

Two questions:

- Since my pre-orders mentioned above technically have been (largely) paid for or at least committed to since before I noticed / (hypothetically) joined this contest, can they be excluded? As in, do only bought games count if they have been (pre-)ordered after starting the event?

- What is the opinion on trading games, or selling games and using that money to buy new games?

I currently have a backlog of 21 games for which I paid (25 if we count my pre-orders) and 60 games which were free/ps+, so I really should have enough to do for a year. I'd use the three allowed games for VR and the DLC allowance for VR upgrades of games I have (Driveclub, Ethan Carter etc).

I think you should be fine, as far as I know the rule is basically: what you pay before joining doesn't really matter but once you join any money spent would be counted, even if you preordered the game before then. Note that this challenge is mostly about trying to save some money by reducing ones spending habits as well as reducing your backlog instead of making it bigger.

Also, you won't be excluded if you buy more than the rules allow for but you will have to list those extra games as cave-ins and live with that shame. :P

I only have ~30 games in my backlog, by the way, so you should be fine with 60. :D

As far as trading/ selling games and buying new ones go, I can't really say anything about that. I guess it would be one of those dark zones but personally I'd say even if that money comes from selling a game, money spent is still money spent.

I might still join this now I have finished with my plat rain day exploits.

My only question is how is it decided whether a person has bought a new game or just didn't have it on their list already? Would we just be going on honesty.

It's not a competition, so we rely on honesty. I mean there's also really no way to tell since the only way to certainly say wether a game was bought within the challenge or not would be if someone would buy games that were released during that period of time.

I mean you could tell people to start all the games they currently own once but they could still play new games offline and/or on different consoles.

As far as trading/ selling games and buying new ones go, I can't really say anything about that. I guess it would be one of those dark zones but personally I'd say even if that money comes from selling a game, money spent is still money spent.

I'll have to hear how exactly SFSG counts it then. I have practically completely paid for No Man's Sky already, just by trading in old games (and a gift ticket for getting enough points). Have partially paid for South Park and Horizon as well, and VR is not a game but a peripheral (what are the rules on those?) though I will at least buy Farpoint, probably. On the whole I've been a nice little boy ever since switching to PlayStation but I could concentrate on my backlog even more than I am doing now.

Those 85 from my backlog are just my PlayStation games, by the way. I've got another 23 unplayed games for the SNES - well, at least unplayed since I decided to fire up the SNES again this year after not playing for about five years. yeah by all means I should be fine :D

I tend to trade games anyway instead of selling them but I can see how selling a game and using that money would still be a cave-in. We'll be able to see this on the total expenses, I guess. Well, I'm not in this to win anything anyway, I'm mainly looking to see if I'm not disqualifying myself even before I actually start.

I might still join this now I have finished with my plat rain day exploits.

My only question is how is it decided whether a person has bought a new game or just didn't have it on their list already? Would we just be going on honesty.

As Falcion said we rely on honesty alone. But i think this is kinda competition... a competition of how honest you are to yourself in keeping money in your pocket :P:D

But as mentioned too, you won't be excluded if you buy more games than allowed... you just have to live with that :P:)

The Goal is save money and play what you have... reduce your backlog... if you keep trading games back and forth i think it misses the heart of this challenge... But i think that the date of buying stuff is important, not the release of a game.. so if you have paid for No Man's Sky and enter now this challenge it's fine from my point of view :)

@ Topic:

I'm really glad that even after looking at the whole list of games reduced in price in the "Summer Sale" i'm not interested in even a single game :D :D :D

Oh and i have a little Update.

Though never mentioned before i'm super happy to say i finished Dante's Inferno on 100% :D ... the last trophy ( :bronze: It's in the Trial) was the worst  :S

I finished two more mp trophies of Crysis 3... almost finished that part :)

With help from my buddy saghor i completed more errands in Dragon's Crown he adviced me how to proceed faster forward than i was aware of :D

Same here :D  ... in the last sale i saw Virtue's Last Reward on discount but resisted the temptation because i didn't have enough cash on my psn acc :D

Yeah it's a lot easier to resist those temptations when you can't just buy it with two button presses. :D
