Holy fucking shit! Are my eyes deceiving me? There's a platinum? Sold!

 

Why couldn't Capcom put a platinum in RE4? I'm i correct in saying that RE4 that landed onto the PS3 was the PS2 port? I don't see any reason why the couldn't re-work the trophy list for 4, but oh well.

Because RE4 was a remaster handled by Capcom while this is a PS2 classic handled by Sony. Capcom just couldn't be bothered making a new trophy list. ?

Oh damn, I wasn't expecting it to have a platinum. Best RE game ever. Actually one of my favorite games of all time, period. I still have it for the PS2, GC, and PS3 (and originally had it for DC, of course), so clearly I don't need this. But yes I do. ?

If the Infinite herb trick still works which is extremely likely, then the RL/Speed Run will be really easy as long as you make sure to dump the herb for the times you switch to Chris, normally you can't pause the timer but you will be able to abuse rest mode for this, I did it on the REmake if I forgot where to go.

 

The A ranks on the battle game are easy apart from Wesker, his isn't time restricted so you can go slow, the biggest obstacle will be whether or not you get the Magnum for Alexia from the slot machine, getting there is pretty hard depending on how you well can handle hunters with the knife. I've done it all before but it wa many years ago.

After playing for about 10 minutes, cursing at the crappy controls, i couldn't put it down. Actually had to, to go to work today. Can't wait to get home!

Do not buy PAL version of the game because it runs 16% slower than US NTSC version yet the times for getting an A rank in battle mode are the same. That makes getting A rank in battle mode for Chris almost impossible making the platinum near unobtainable for EU players. Good job Capcom and Sony.

This game has a very big optimization problem only in EU version.!!! Don't buy it in EU PSS!!!

Too bad I didn´t know that before. I thought Sony already fixed the 50hz to 60hz thing with almost every PAL PS2 games being patched to 60hz, but nope. Now I have a game that I can´t get platinum on because of not proper testing (getting A rank is so easy in NTSC - US - JP versions) and the fact this is my favorite RE makes me quite disappointed :/

Some people say it´s actually 3:30 and if you have the PAL version you put yourself in disadvantage. If the PAL version ran at 30fps/60 fields/60hz like the NTSC version your time would be around 3 hours. I didn´t even try to get the trophy because when I had booted up the game for the 1st time I clearly saw it runs in slow mo and that put me off.

I have the US version. Ok no problem, that was my first run, I'll try under 3:30 then, and see what happens...

EDIT: After countless flawless runs with Chris I came to conclusion that A rank in PAL Battle mode is impossible and that makes the platinum unobtainable. Just tried NTSC version on pc emu and got 5:51 on my first try. What a joke Capcom.

 

Does it run slower then the original PS2 version? That also runs at 50Hz and I did get an A rank with Chris on that one so if it's the same then it's not impossible.

The trophy for beating it in under 4 hours definitely seems to be wrong. All indications are that it's actually 3:30. It sucks, too, because I hadn't played it in years but managed to get about 3:40 while A ranking it on my first playthrough. I've clearly played this game way too much, lol.

It should run the same like the old PAL PS2 version, but honestly there is no evidence that anyone ever got A rank with Chris in PAL version that I could dig up. It´s probably possible if you can glitch the game somehow, but I doubt there are any glitches besides: 3rd form of Alexia getting stuck in the 2 corners and random bug that gives A rank no matter what (that happend to me when I finished Alternate Claire around 8:50 when I also took a lot of damage and used first aid sprays lol, idk what happend tbh but the game gave me A rank... after 50+ battle game runs that happend only once so good luck lol). So I´m saying its nearly impossible.

As others have already said, the PAL version is inferior to the NTSC version. Why is this even a thing in this day and age? I mean it's not the end of the world since I can buy it from the NA store, but it's still an inconvenience. I wish Sony could handle these PS2 classics better in that regard.

 

 

So I guess you're better off going with the PS3 remaster if you don't care about the trophies. That's kind of a shame.

Well if you are confident enough you can make a video guide or something please because Im done trying over and over again   Couldn´t do it back in 2004 when I got the PS2 game, can´t do it now :/

 

EDIT:I have just found a video of a guy actually getting an A rank in Battle mode with Chris in EU PS4 version and of course it is extremely hard and luck based thanks to Alexia but I do have to apologize to Devil_Spooky for not believing him.  Even though I was pretty close to A rank numerous times (6:39, 6:45) I´m still not gonna try to get it though, because 1 tiny mistake and it´s game over + Alexia being RNG I do not have nerves for that.

Funny thing is, I only have memories of having trouble with 2 of the characters, Regular Claire and Steve, the other 3 I remember doing it in 1-2 tries ?

Hm I did Steve on first try in 9 mins. Wesker on first try (got magnum in the casino :P) in 16:xx minutes. Alt Claire and Chris was a bit tougher because of hard bosses.
