How long was your worst item grind?

I've been trying to get the Spear Orb in the Mana Fortress for hours and still haven't gotten it yet. I was at Level 80 when I first started killing the Tsunamis (the blue slimes) and I'm now Level 92. I get as low as 10 chests to as high as 20 chest per level, so I opened and analyzed at least 200 chests.

No other grind took this long except for the Ninja gloves where I was battling 3 in the Underground City. On average other items took me 15-30 minutes per rare item (like I already got the 2 Axe Orbs).

It is good thing v1.03 fixed the crashes. So far, I had yet one crash so the grind is not as bad as before.

So, what item took you the longest? And how long?

My longest grind were the axe orbs from the burning head (don't know his name). It took me approximately 4 hours to get them. It almost never spawned chests and if they did I just got this damned vampire cape. I sold over 20 of them. Everything else was rather quick compared to that. The funny thing here is, after I had everything and went again through the mana fortress to go to the end battles, I killed a few guys on the way and got 3 chests with candy inside, one of the axe orb guy and two of other enemies - which mean these would've been rare drops... I hate RNG. My level was 86 in the end and I had no problem to bring all my magic to Level 8 while grinding. Two of the spells I even got to max.

It took me roughly three hours to get the cockatrice cap to drop, two and a half hours for the ring to drop with the Eggplant Man on the subway, about 45 minutes for the items from the Doom Sword and the National Scar, a little over an hour for the three drops in Pure Land, and about four hours to get everything in the Mana Fortress. Most of that time was spent hunting Fiend Heads and Wolf Lords to get both of their orb drops.

Except for a few lucky, quick drops, I had to grind almost all endgame items for hours. Mana palace, Pureland, Mana fortress - I spent hours in each area, killing the same foes again and again. Of all the games I have played, this one  sure has the dumbest and most boring trophy  list...

I also had the most problems withe the very first item grind: The Cockatrice Cap from those Basilisks in the Underground. I guess it took me about 3 - 4 hours. On the plus side this whole ordeal managed to boost my party about 18 levels so it was not a complete waste of time.

Everything else I got within 30 min so it wasn't as boring as I feared it would be.

The weapon grinds are pretty rough, but so far my most notably annoying grind is the dragon coil from the ice fiends.  The very first one I fought dropped it, only for me to discover my arm inventory was full, so naturally it disappeared.  I then had to spend 45 minutes to an hour killing them for it to drop again.

I kinda hope whomever designed the RNG for this game meets a horrible end.

For me, getting the orbs at the end was the worst. Fiend heads and those armored guys in particular are brutal since there's never more than 1 of them in a group. Fiend heads alone took me 3 or so hours. One of my least enjoyable platinums in recent memory.

Are you talking about the big knight guys?  There was a group of three right before the very end... in the same room that had 3 master ninjas.

Up to Mana Palace the farming has been reasonable, but now in Pure Land I swear it has become soul crushing. I've been farming Griffin Hands and Ice Bandits in the zone before the Blue Dragon for the past three hours and got barely any chests to spawn, let alone the rare drops, so either I have to advance to trigger the availability of those drops, or this otherwise enjoyable game is quickly turning into a masochistic workaholic slog I regret putting on my profile.

Edit. Sorry, I meant before the serpent boss.

PS. Turns out that the final axe orb I'm missing it's my most elusive item, I've already spent three hours looking for it, I've seen only Vampire Capes so far, when the enemy has the decency to drop chests at all.

I’m grinding for my final 4 weapon orbs at the moment, currently at around 10 hours total for the other weapon orbs and items.
I’ve definitely played games with worse drop rates that required a bigger time investment but I feel like secret of mana feels really bad because the game itself is quite short for a jrpg so the time spent waiting for item drops feels a lot longer in comparison to similar games

I started the Mana Fortress at level 78 and finished on level 97.  I managed to get all of the rare gear for everyone on my team.  The last orb I picked up was the Spear Orb from the Tsunami.  I also learned that the three section of the Fortress is the best plan to grind for gear.  Many enemies are near doorways.  I either torched them with Popoi's Burst spell (Dryad) or buffed Randi with Primm's Moon Energy (Luna) to one-hit crit kill things.

I am still looking for watcher ring. Have been farming eggplant-man for couple hours. It keep gave me cup of wishes that I don't wish for.

--

Just gave up the Underground City. I got it in Pure Lands. Not sure about the guide says it's easier to farm/drop on Pure Lands or not. Struggling with Dragon Coil now.

--

Got Dragon Coil not on my farming spot. Guess I have to move on if i don't get the rare drops.

Here's some misery porn for you all. I forget to get the Watcher Ring from the Pure Lands so I had to do the mana fortress grind. I ended up getting about 8 Amulet rings from the Tsunami in the room with the slimes before I got one Watcher Ring. Furthermore, when the Watcher Ring did drop... my inventory was full.

On the bright side, if anyone wants to know the most efficient way to farm slimes I'm happy to share it. I can see through the matrix of their programming. I am slime.

Watcher Ring in the Mana Fortress was a 6 hour grind for me and I ended up getting Cockatrice Helmet 15 minutes before that. I was running between the room in the Mana Fortress with the only Basilisk and the room with the shapeshifter, that shapeshifter was actually pretty generous for birthing Eggplant Men, got around 15 cups of wishes before finally getting my 1 in 64 rare drop or whatever it is?  Also Javelin orb was 2 hours, everything else I got in under an hour or by coincidence. The missable Pure Land items were around a hour.

Honestly yeah, I ended up having not a bad time at Pure Lands after that.

Last one was the whip orb from Mace Menace; I picked it up and didn't realize I needed to upgrade so I just boogied to the boss, realized I f'd up and only took me another couple of spawns to get 1 to drop again!
