Popular Post HowIPendragon
Let me start off by saying that I am a hardcore Adventure Time fan. I've seen every episode, own every comic, know most of the voice actor's names, etc. I adore it. That said, this game is one of the biggest disappointments I've ever felt in a game, especially one with source material I really love. Its the worst birthday present I've ever asked for. The game does have an overall plot, but come on, its Adventure Time. Its wacky. Where this game fails is in the overall gameplay/mechanics. Gameplay The gameplay is EXTREMELY repetitive. I cannot stress that enough. You are literally doing the same exact thing throughout the entire game. You basically run through each floor of the dungeon and either clear them out, collecting treasure along the way, or you can just run to the stairs and end it, but skipping treasure will prevent you from upgrading your extremely limited and extremely expensive stats. Each floor consists of 2 to 5 rooms, which are huge when you consider how sluggish your character moves.I really wanted to like this game, but it gets boring VERY quickly. I knew by the time I got to level 18 (out of 100) or so that I did not like it. To make matters worse, treasure is very hard to come by. So you would think that any treasure you get could be stored for future use. NO. For some ridiculous reason they decided to implement a punishing system which causes you to lose all of your unspent treasure once you go back into the dungeons. Now, you would think you could avoid this problem by simply never coming up from the dungeon for a break or an upgrade. Except for the fact that you can only hold 999 treasures at a time. And by the way, one of the most expensive upgrades in the game costs 700 treasures, which takes roughly an hour to obtain. "Features" I'll give credit where credit is due though, this game did try a bit. It gives some variety as far as new enemies go, but they only come after clearing 10 or so levels. It also gives you the ability to level up your stats (but even this is VERY basic and limited) and about 30 or so different tokens that you can find in the dungeons and equip to give you different abilities before going back in. Another thing I thought I was going to like was the blocking/dodging maneuver which reminded me of the evasion techniques used in God of War or Killer is Dead. But even this is very limited since you can only block what's directly in front of you and is completely useless if you are surrounded by enemies, in which case you are forced to just mash the attack button until you're safe. All these "features" are not enough to save this game from its dull repetition. Bottom Line The fact that something like this is selling for $40 when something much better like Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus is $30 at regular price is a joke when this game could have easily just been either a flash game on the Cartoon Network website or a $5 game for your iPod.The sad truth is that WayForward's B-team and D3 relied only on the "Adventure Time" license to drive the sales for this waste of money. Cloudstrife192
I tend to try and avoid games based off of movies or tv shows. There are some exceptions though. edit: Just watched a video and I see what you mean about repetitive Edited December 20, 2013 by Cloudstrife192
amebapiko
It's a shame that it turned out this bad, I only heard good things about the previous one.
HowIPendragon
It's a shame that it turned out this bad, I only heard good things about the previous one. I wasn't even crazy about the previous one, but compared to this one its a work of art. I could at least say that one was fun.

JaM
hmmmm... I'm quite not surprised with the negative feedback... didn't expected much from an AT game after playing the first one... **still can't get over with 100%ing a game in 7 hours**... but it's weird.. I tend to go with long game yet boring than fun but short games... might still pick it up if it is again in sale and I don't have a game to play anymore... CasaDeBen
Yah i wanted to pick this up until i read some reviews from people who like the show. Im cool with old school dungeon crawler gauntlet type games but the candy tax or whatever it is just sounds awful

LabwisCheesecake
To be honest, I expected little of this game. Most games based off of TV/Movies have been bad and it also seems that Adventure Time was just trying to push something else out with their name on it. I'm not down talking the show, but this was just a bad idea to begin with.
dansora
it is really repetitive, But I like how all the trophies are named after adventure time episodes. And the game is more fun when one of your friends are playing with you. but if you want this game to play by yourself, you're not going to have much fun as I got bored of it within the 15th dungeon and realized I spent 40 pound on some flash game... but it's fun and good if you have nothing else to do though
omgadamstopit
It's a rogue-lite with Adventure Time fan-service. My wife and I really enjoyed it together because we're both Adventure Time fans and I love how it bridged the gap between lite gameplay for her and hardcore rogue-like gameplay for me. I think people are a bit too hard on this one, but I understand why some people can be so opposed to this game in a time where next-gen graphics and the like exist.
Lady Lilith
I want a new Simpsons game like the last one (The Simpsons Game). I had a blast with that.
Parker
My wife, son and I are all big Adventure Time fans so I still plan on picking this up someday but it is a shame it turned out like this. I think it is very possible to make an awesome Adventure Time game (open world RPG would be even more awesome) and it seems like the developers stay very true to the source material and genuinely care about it too. Hopefully we'll get an awesome game one day. Parker

It probably is that for some people, but it definitely isn't the case for me. I love it when people can make a game with simple graphics be so fun. If you're into this style I really recommend Anodyne and Volgarr the Viking. I played it with my little brother and found it a bit more enjoyable.
lumphy101
I was thinking of getting this later. Looked like a fun platinum with a new game. Watch a video. Oh god why. The sad thing is I love Adventure time. Oh, well...

daniezutton
The game can be enjoyable if you play with multiple people. In the end it is just a repetitive ball of misery.
