Platinum_Vice
Puzzle 8 of 9 Great job crew. I don't know how you figured that out so fast but it was impressive. The answer to the chess puzzle was: Spoiler Bf6# (Bishop to F6 to checkmate the black king, like this: The answer to the Rubik's cube was: Spoiler L, U, R The password was therefore: Spoiler BLUR Now… the case: NONE of the media release responses resulted in tangible lines of inquiry. I have reached out to interstate and international agencies to assist with reports of "Jane" or "Kevin" or their 4x4 at distant locations but nothing results in further lines or inquiry or of genuine suspicion that the callers had seen our actual targets. We still haven’t been able to access Kevin's laptop, his phone or Jane’s phone. I don’t have anything I can use on Michael and I've fallen out of having any suspicion in him being involved in any way. I don’t have enough evidence to dig any deeper on Robert (but I still don't trust him). One fingerprint came back on the packaging of the multitool: Kevin. Isabella finally answered my calls but she can't recall where Kevin and Jane had been when they'd told each other that they were in love. It turns out that she and I had separately visited that venue that held the Foo Fighters concert but... it just looks like any other arena from what we can tell. Everything else has just been resulting in dead-ends for this case. I am desperately hoping that these puzzles come back with something tangible. Realistically, I don’t think we'll get any more information about Jane and Kevin using traditional investigative methods. I’m counting on you. Here’s the 8th puzzle. The program has only ever indicated that there will be 9 puzzles. We are so close! Good luck! - Vice 8/9 1. The players followed the guides on PSNProfiles.com and therefore only required the time stated in those guides to obtain their platinums. 2. The owner of Overwatch was gifted her copy for free. 3. Adam’s game took less time to platinum than Olivia’s game, but more time to platinum than at least one other friend. 4. Ulysses was so excited to play his game that he paid full price for it on launch day. That game was not Assassin’s Creed II. Eddie is too cheap to do that; he won’t pay more than $25 for any one game. 5. Ingrid isn’t interested in fighting games so she hasn’t played Mortal Kombat X. She spent less money on her game than Adam but more than at least two other friends. 6. The game that took 50 hours to platinum cost more than $5 (but the new owner definitely paid less than the full price that it had cost upon release). 7. Yooka-Laylee cost less than Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. 8. The $20 game took 25 hours to platinum. The password is: The first letter of Adam's game, then the first letter of Eddie's game, then the first letter of Ingrid's game, then the first letter of Olivia's game, then the first letter of Ulysses' game. @DrBloodmoney @MAUSZX @DonFrancesco @Im2Fast_4U @DoctorDrPepper @YaManSmevz @rjkclarke @MattbluePT @HusKy @GuitaristZag @Malachen @AugustUnder @APeskyAxolotl @Taruta13
GuitaristZag
I'm guessing the word is MORAY, as its the only password I can gather using the first letters, but will solve to confirm in a few minutes. Ok, ignore me. Mayor is a thing too. This is why I'm bad at wordle, lol. Given that the actual password is instead MAYOR, I think there may be some connection to Final Fantasy VII Remake. There was previously a maze of Cloud and Sephiroth, and "Mayor" is the code word that Cloud uses while looking for an informant or something (it's been 2 years since I played) at Shinra Headquarters. GuitaristZag
I'm curious if the passwords themselves all tie into games that need to be used for the final solution. I'm on mobile so I can't click back and check all the passwords, but off the top of my head I believe we have had YRUME, which I can't think of. Witness, obvious Blur, Sonic maybe? (Blue blur) Stars (Resident Evil 3 Remake, which is admittedly on my mind as I just got the plat today. Screw you stage 3 nemesis) Mayor, the aforementioned final fantasy 7 remake theory.
Platinum_Vice
Puzzle 9 of 9 I'm so proud of you for getting so far. The 8th password was indeed... Spoiler MAYOR The 9th puzzle is a cryptogram that requires a cypher. I've actually solved this one myself because I figured out the cypher!! If you want a hint for the cypher, have another look at what I posted back in Puzzle 6. I printed out the finished puzzle and then the program restarted back at puzzle 1! Fortunately, I had transcribed the puzzle first. I have organised a land search team. They are briefed at my office – I just need to tell them where to start searching. Can you think of anything that I can use at all to narrow down a possible location? Right. No more investigation updates, deputies; solving this puzzle is the top priority. So, without further ado, here it is. Good luck! - Vice 9/9 FINAL BOSS Jane. Print this out. We're going away for a week. Bring this with you for the drive. MattbluePT
Okay so Spoiler Decoding this cypher wasn't too difficult. My problem was filling the spots empty, but easily understood it was a weeding proposal. SO, I got the following (have to admit due to a little help of the content on the @DrBloodmoney spoiler to find the logic to fill the spots) 1259 days ago you came into my life. It has been a blur ever since. I couldn't think of anywhere more romantic than the place where you told me that you loved me for the first time. I wish for our hearts to run free like wild horses. With the stars as our witness, will you marry me? (Although this last bit is a strange combination of mayor+yrume). So, all i can conclude is they probably are alive, celebrating irresponsibly enough to not give any news to their loved ones. It most definitily is going on a crazy celebration ?

This would be the period of her coming into his life as their “official together date thing” (it’s a real investigator term). Point being, we’ve got a concert right in the target period we’d be looking for. Source! That was a date in the early days of their relationship. Isabella said that was just when they went "Facebook official." Spoiler Well, from the facebook posts, we can intuit that she probably said she loved him for the first time at some point in the first year of their relationship, as he is casual enough saying "I Love You" in his "One Year Appreciation Post" - which was prior to Robert receiving his service medal. Of course, it's possible she hadn't said it yet, and he was just over-eager, but unlikely, as doing that publicly before it's been reciprocated privately would most likely mean they wouldn't have been in a relationship subsequently! His reference to "Wild Horses" and "Stars" suggests outdoors - and probably the place where they went skydiving: A series of photos of Jane and Kevin patting a horse, camping and skydiving. Accompanying text: “Had the most relaxing time. Falling! - with Kevin Lockwood.” Comments from friends include mild jealousy for them, sharing fears of heights, suggestions that they should have done some fishing, etc. This would line up, as it is post-Foo Fighters, but pre "I love You" publicly. Are any of those posts geo-tagged, or can any of the friends of Jane's who commented on the posts confirm where that was? EDIT - it's a stretch, but I wonder if the random "No Sparx" is in reference to this - when camping, there would be no electricity, hence no phones... no electricity... no sparks... Taruta13
I solved the logic puzzle (because I love logic puzzles, didn't realize you had to actually check the trophy guides to get some info) but the last one stumped me. Cryptos are my weakness. EDIT Had to rely on a cryptogram solver but I eventually figured it out, but it's a mess of words to me. Spoiler Case closed. Turns out that it was a big misunderstanding and those two were just going off to a week-long holiday where they could cosplay as Geralt and Ciri from The Wtcher 3 and the place they confessed their love was probably an Anachronistic group festival(those medieval cosplay groups that put up tents in parks for a week and pretend to be in Ye Olde England - I attended one of those clubs when I was younger, but never got into it because the costuming plans were too expensive and I didn't feel like loping around a 110 degree summer outside in an outfit that would kill me with heat stroke.) Then they found out the festival was going on for a month and decided to stay the full time to get into the characters. Seriously, I was not surprised: Any gaming couple who got into that game would probably do the same thing considering the heavily romantic overtones. Then again, considering how Jane's father hates Kevin, I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to drop off the face of the Earth and feign their deaths as Robet would have probably gotten furious if he knew what his daughter was doing, but then again, he never played that game. Is this going to be a yearly thing? I would love to see it happen one a year with some incentives as well to get more people to use their brains. Popular Post Platinum_Vice
OPEN DISCUSSIONS WITH SPOILERS Spoiler tags no longer necessary WE FOUND THEM!! AND WITHOUT ANY TIME TO SPARE!! You got it right. The final puzzle's cypher was 'GERALT.' The gaps in the cryptogram were the 8 passwords: 1. The [&] Witness 2. 1259 3. Romantic 4. Y R U M E 5. Where you told me that you loved me for the first time. 6. Stars 7. Blur 8. M A Y O R Therefore the completed 9th puzzle looks like this: This is what happened and how we could have deduced it with the clues from our lengthy investigation: The puzzles were a long-winded marriage proposal from Kevin to Jane. His plan was to take her to “the place where (Jane) told (him) that she loved him for the first time” … a place with wild horses. [Puzzle 4 hinted at this – from Jane’s Facebook: a series of photos of Jane and Kevin patting a horse, camping and skydiving. Accompanying text: “Had the most relaxing time. Falling! - with Kevin Lockwood.”] It’s a camping site. They visited that spot early in their relationship. It was after that concert but early enough that they hadn't said "I love you" before that trip. They had indeed been 'falling' when skydiving, but it was on that trip that they were also falling in love. Kevin had not told anyone about this proposal. He did not expect that Robert would provide a blessing so he did not ask him at all. [Puzzle 2: He hasn’t approved of their relationship since they met. Robert describes Kevin as a “stalker-type" that managed to trick his daughter into loving him and from puzzle 6: he resents that Kevin didn’t speak to him first about dating her]. Among Kevin's preparations he purchased a multitool [puzzle 6, 7 and 8: The recycling had … a hard plastic case for a $100 multitool/pocketknife … I can’t find the multitool], filled up his 4x4 with fuel [puzzle 4: I reviewed the petrol station's CCTV and can see Kevin filling up his 4x4 and three jerry cans a week before Robert reported Jane missing. He paid in cash and also bought matches], and packed some books and warm clothing for Jane. [Puzzle 6: …except for two books. I can’t find them in the apartment… and Jane’s denim jacket is missing]. He conducted the appropriate chores around the apartment to prepare it for being empty for a week [Puzzle 6 describes this at length] and he packed some essentials such as coffee, milk, bread and bin bags to bring back their rubbish. [Puzzle 6: There’s a kettle but no milk. There’s a toaster but no bread and I can’t find… the bin bags]. As he planned on going straight to and from the camping site (which is remote - ensuring a romantic setting), he did not expect that they’d need their phones, wallet/purse or laptops [Puzzle 1: Jane’s phone and purse were still in the apartment. Kevin’s phone was left behind but his wallet, keys and car were gone]. Kevin had to drive a little further than expected to find the herd of wild horses than last time and so the skydiving spot that they’d visited before was out of sight. They could only hear occasional small planes every few days but they could never see them. Kevin's biggest mistakes in his preparation included not bringing alternative methods of communication and failing to inform anyone where they were going. He thought the secret nature of the proposal was romantic and he wanted to keep his cards close to his chest. [Puzzle 5: Isabella believes Kevin to be quite romantic and passionate about Jane. Also in puzzle 5: Kevin roleplays a cleric, which frustrates James because Kevin’s logistical management is a little lacking]. Kevin forgot some important details with the complicated nature of this proposal. With so much successful planning, he actually thought he was doing alright until things started to go wrong. When Jane solved the 8th puzzle, she followed the instructions of the 9th puzzle by printing it out and she ensured she had a pen to complete the cryptogram. She informed her work that she’d be gone for a week [Puzzle 3: Jane sent the following SMS: “Sorry Sandra, I need the next week off. Sorry that it’s short notice” and Puzzle 9: Jane - print this out. We’re going away for a week. Bring this with you for the drive]. ... So, that’s the information that we could have deduced to figure out where Jane and Kevin have been, the reasons for their absence and the purpose of the puzzles. Here is what we couldn’t know: The camping trip took a turn for the worse and they’ve been gone for a lot longer than expected. That is why I’m so grateful that YOU all gave such an incredible effort in figuring out where they were. Assuming you’re interested to know what happened to Jane and Kevin, I’ll pass on what they’ve told me and what I’ve verified: The romantic escape under the stars was in an isolated camping spot and they thoroughly enjoyed their 7 days away. At the end of that time, Kevin and Jane had additional food and water and were having such a nice time that they decided to stay for another four nights. When they went to leave (on the 3rd of July – two days after I first came to PSNProfiles.com to ask for your help) they ran into trouble – Kevin accidentally hit a spooked wild horse with the 4x4, writing it off and trapping the horse underneath the car. They were faced with the choice of staying with the vehicle and using it as shelter until getting rescued, or, abandoning it to walk back towards civilisation. The walk would take a few days at least. Kevin knew that staying with the vehicle is the better option for rescue 99% of the time, but after another three days of camping next to the car awaiting rescue (they divided up and rationed the last of their food which only lasted for two of those days), the temptation of walking to the skydiving runway overcame them. Their logic was that Kevin’s 4x4 was underneath tree coverage and, most importantly, no one knew where they were. They hadn’t come across anyone else for what had become 13 days of being away. By that time, my investigation was already 9 days old and this forum post was 5 days old. We were only up to the third puzzle by that time. Jane drew a map using the printed paper with the 9th puzzle and the pen that she’d brought with her. She sketched the map based on the direction they had come from and she estimated North using the path of the sun in the sky. She tore the paper in half and duplicated the map to the second half of her paper. She left that second map (and a message with the date and their intentions to walk back) on the dashboard of the 4x4. She did this in case someone chanced upon the 4x4 before they were rescued. This corroborative evidence is one of the many reasons why I am so willing to accept their account of events instead of suspecting foul play. After a day of walking, Kevin took a tumble climbing down what they thought would be a ‘shortcut’ and he twisted an ankle. Faced with grim outlooks and a lack of options, they spent 2 days at hobbling pace returning to the 4x4 where Jane was forced to collect running water within shouting distance of their camp. Kevin’s ankle had swollen to the size of an orange. They fed on the rotting meat of the dead horse. It had been dead for 6 days at that point but Kevin and Jane – starving at that stage - had decided that eating it was a necessary evil. That cooked the meat over a campfire for another 2 days before it became so far gone that they physically couldn’t keep it down any longer. Their hope of rescue was extinguished and Kevin's ankle’s swelling had worsened. His ankle was red hot and the size of a grapefruit. He developed a fever. That was 4 days ago on the 11th of July. We were up to Puzzle 7. They decided on another plan: Kevin volunteered to remain behind in the vehicle with only their clothes for blankets while Jane was to take their sleeping bag and depart again on foot for rescue. She was to walk towards the skydiving runway and raise an alert for a land search to find Kevin. She would take her pen and paper and keep a map while leaving strips of clothing on trees as markers. Jane walked for 4 more days between the 11th and 15th of July. The 15th marked her 23rd day away from home. She survived on rainwater and bark while following the intermittent sounds of planes. Between fatigue and a lack of exact knowledge where the runway was, she took longer than a reasonable person would have needed in normal circumstances and failed to maintain a direct path. On the 15th she collapsed at a clearing with the relief of seeing a plane in the sky. Thanks to YOU, who figured out where Jane and Kevin would be (a camping site with wild horses near a skydiving business; geo-tagged Facebook photos), I alerted the skydiving association and local volunteer searchers. The skydiving plane spotted Jane in half an hour and we made it to her in time to get her urgent medical attention. We got Jane to hospital and she described where Kevin would be. We located Kevin this evening in the car. Following Jane's map, verbal directions and strips of cloth in the trees, I was there with the volunteer searches as we found Kevin's 4x4. He was alive. Barely. Both Jane and Kevin are in really rough shape with malnutrition and dehydration. Kevin may lose his leg… but... they are alive. They will be spending a long time in hospital. I’ve spoken to them both (I had to wait a while for Kevin’s antibiotics to cut through his fever) and fully believe their accounts. I have no suspicion of any ill will or criminality at this point. It is clear to me now that this was a young couple in love that have started their engagement off with some very, very poor decision-making. Hopefully that is not an omen for the rest of their lives together. I asked Jane about the clue of having "no Sparx." She smiled and told me that she had put the same question to Kevin when she had solved the 5th puzzle so many weeks ago. She had said to him, "but there's no Sparx!" He had said, "there's been sparks since the moment I met you." But I am so excited and relieved. I am also incredibly thankful for all of you for helping me find them. I’m commenting the happy result here before I even write up my own official report to close this rollercoaster of a case. After seeing Jane and Kevin myself and then calling Robert, coming online to tell you all the good news is the first thing I’ve wanted to do. I hope this was as satisfying for you as it was for me. Thank you all so much. - Vice ?️

Taruta13
Well, my answer was a bit crazy but to be honest, hearing that account at the end shows that love can make you do the dumbest things. If Kevin ends up with a prostetic leg and with Robert not verifying his distrust of the guy, it's his own damn fault for not letting SOMEONE know where to go instead of sending all these silly puzzles. Still, glad we could help. I'm sure it'll all be right in the end, but I'm sure that Robert will keep a VERY tight leash on his daughter after nearly losing her because of a stupid animal who decided to become roadkill. In reality's side, I enjoying working the puzzles. While I do like playing JRPGs and video games, sometimes a nice physical puzzle is a good palette cleanser. Considering how I am procastinating on Nexomon: Extinction, you can tell my priorities are not in the place. (They are in grinding vocations for Dragon Quest VII for the 3DS, which I will never delete because sadly the eShop is closing and the only way you can ever get this wonderful game after that shop closes is to go on Amazon and pay $200 for a physical copy.) EDIT: I am planning on making my own set of indie games for the PSN store, including an RPG that will have most of the aspects from Dragon Quest VII - the restoration of areas by time travel, the vocation system including some monster classes, etc.); I've cut my teeth on the Switch's Gamer Garage title and plan to work on the platinum for Dreams to get some more game-building EXP so I can get started building it on something like RPG Maker XV. If you are interested, put me a PM with any ideas. I really want to see a game like Dragon Warrior/Quest VII on the PS5 in the future and I know that these indie RPGs can work as there are a lot of such games on the PSN store like Pier Solar and Evoland(which I got the platinum for recently).
