Popular Post AlteredFormula Posted June 18, 2012 Popular Post Share Posted June 18, 2012 Ok, I've been having a think about this over the last week or so, and before I put anything into place, I wanted the community's feedback. How do you all feel about me ripping off Comp at .com's interviews idea and establishing them here with a couple of changes so that it looks like a new idea that nobody ever had. (Hey, I'm not going to lie about it!) Here are the things that I would be changing if we go ahead. 1.) It's not a member of the month, its just an interview thread so that you can get to know a bit more about the people in the community. 2.)I'm not keen on it being a vote based poll (no offence to comp, but I always felt that a voting system, can easily be abused and it turns it into a popularity contest.) 3.) Interviews wont be weekly or monthly but as and when I think a member has made enough of an impact (Quality not Quantity!) that I feel people might want to hear a bit more about them. 4.) The interviews wont have a theme. For example, its not going to be about 100% / Plat streaks every week, some weeks it may not have anything to do with gaming at all. I may just want to interview you because I saw a status update about your pony trek into the Himalayas, and thought it was worth finding out more. 5.) If you think someone is worthy of an interview, feel free to PM me with a well thought out reason why you would like to see them interviewed. Any PM's that say "Interview Johnny9000 because he is awesome." will be ignored. However "I'd really like to see an interview with Johnny9000 because from my understanding he's adopted 35,000 kids and still finds time to game." gives me something that other community members find interesting. 6.) When a member is chosen for an interview, I'll pop up a thread announcing who it is, and why I'm interviewing them, so you guys can post the questions you want asked. I'll mix those in with my own questions so that the community has some input. I wont lie, I have a few that I'd like to see interviews with for varying reasons, which is why the grey matter got tickled. Of course, if I ask you, and you dont want to be interviewed you only need to say. Personally I think it would be a great starting point for new members that want to know a bit more about the community they are joining. Give me some feedback. Am I out of touch and this isnt wanted at all? Do you guys have better ideas that you've wanted to see in interviews before? If you dont think this idea is great, or pointless, make yourself heard. Sorry Comp, but it always scratched me (as well as many I know/knew) the wrong way when you and other mods would get voted for motm. A lot of people did feel like it was not only wrong that mods got to be nominated but most just saw it as a popularity contest. One of many reasons I am no longer active at the other site. Point 2 is a brilliant idea though, which I would like to visit in the future if said members are up for having their image plastered up on the site. I've seen Skype in action (installed it so the wife could talk to the kids on the east coast) but haven't dicked around with what it can do. Having a split screen with the interviewer/interviewee would really be sweet. Probably uploading the interview to youtube and then linking to it would be the posting method. I actually had no idea that it even existed over at .com (I guess that shows how much I am here and not there lol ;P). Also, if you ever wanted to interview me, I would enthusiastically agree! I'm not sure how Comp's system works, I mean the way they were done before that. There are a few people who I'd love to see an interview from. Parker Posted June 19, 2012 Share Posted June 19, 2012 I'm not a fan of how the interviews were handled on the other site but I'd be all for interviews here, as long as it doesn't turn into a popularity contest and the same set of questions are asked each and every time. Sure there will be some common questions like "how did you get into gaming" or something of the sort, but I'd like to see a bit of personality and originality from the questions themselves.
