germ1984 Posted June 11, 2016 Share Posted June 11, 2016 I honestly don't think it was harsh, Russia were so bad. We only looked amazing because they were so goddamn awful. Can see Wales giving us a good kicking to be honest. They looked great, and I can't see our crappy defence defending nearly as well as Slovakia did. True, but you can only play what's put in front of you. I guess I'm one of these rare optimistic (some would say foolish) England fans. If Russia had played that badly and we hadn't created any chances at all then I'd be a lot more pissed off. As for Wales, both the team and the fans are an absolute credit to their nation and I genuinely hope they do well. We played well and thats why we should have scored more than 1 goal and secured the 3 points instead of throwing them away to an awful team who only had the one chance on goal all game. Like I said, we created plenty of chances which is certainly encouraging and something we haven't really done in previous tournaments. I'm not saying we're gonna win Euro 2016 (hell, I doubt we'll win the group) but if it wasn't for a combination of shoddy finishing, good goalkeeping and Raheem Sterling, we would have won this game easily. England had an amazing qualifying round, so expectations were a bit high for them; naturally they had to take a huge dump on them all. They looked better than they did in Brazil and their young team gives them lots of promise, but it took them 70 minutes (and a humongous error) to score a goal in a game they dominated until the last 10 minutes of the match (during which they defended like a bunch of amateurs). To make things worse, some of their stars did jackshit - Sterling being the main culprit, although Kane is certainly trying to get the 'overrated' tag added to his bio. They lack creativity and a lot of finishing, there's no merit in reaching the opponent's area if you don't create chances, and Wales and Slovakia's organization may prove to be a problem unless they fix that and play more like they did during the qualiyfing phase. I don't think they'll fuck up to the point of not reaching the next round, but I think the damage's been done and they'll end up as second (or even third), and they better hope it's second, otherwise they'd face Germany or Spain (excluding fuck-ups).
