Portugal's other free kick takers are bad - letting anyone other than Ronaldo them take 'em would've been as useless.

What about Nani? Or Quaresma?

Also, I don't think anyone with half a brain and that knows football thinks Portugal can achieve anything, given how mediocre they are as a team and how Ronaldo is their only exceptional player.

I don't think that Portugal is mediocre team. They have a lot of good players on every position with the greater potential than CR7. Also, Ronaldo's form in the latest matches wasn't that great as many people think.

Add a complete and total lack of organization (unlike Iceland, whose players did their job well) and creativity and you've got a pretty average team. There's only so much a single player can do for a team.

Then again, I totally disagree. Remember how many 100% chances they have? Iceland basically had a great goalkeeper and also had so much luck (I'd say even more than Russia in the match against England).

OT.

As always, I'm going to watch all three matches, but today I only have eyes on the match Poland vs Germany. Hope we're going to win this, like we did on October 11.

I was seriously worried at half time today. Straight after Bale's goal we looked utterly deflated and wasn't sure if the team would come out for the second half and just capitulate. Hodgson bringing on Vardy and Sturridge straight away must have sent a message to the players to remain positive and go out and win it, which they managed to just about do. The look on England's faces at the end seemed like pure relief rather than joy.

Also, if Sterling starts the next game I'm gonna flip out.

Well Germany sure tried to score. Kind of surprised they didn't, too, given how things go for them 90% of the time. Still, props to Poland for holding out. Guess this proves Germany's not so hot afterall.

What about Nani? Or Quaresma?

lol

I don't think that Portugal is mediocre team. They have a lot of good players on every position with the greater potential than CR7. Also, Ronaldo's form in the latest matches wasn't that great as many people think. .

I wouldn't say 'great'. They have somewhat skilled players, but nothing special. It's a team made up mostly of 2nd rate players that's always being overrated because it has one of the best players ever. They're a long-shot from what they were ten years ago, let alone 50, but because of Ronaldo the media (specially morons) say they're one of Europe's "big" teams, yet they always fall short in the big competitions and struggle to qualify.

Then again, I totally disagree. Remember how many 100% chances they have? Iceland basically had a great goalkeeper and also had so much luck (I'd say even more than Russia in the match against England).

A 100% chance is a goal. They had one. Sure, they had some chances that were close to being a goal, but the fact remains that they didn't do it. They had a lot of possession but they didn't really know what to do with it, and most of it was spent crossing the ball (most of the time badly) and hoping for a header or a rebound, nothing else. Iceland spent most of the match defending and did so well, and even though they hardly tried to score they seemed to have a better idea of how to do it.

what a bullshit this match ended up being
we (Croatia) were dominating the first half, sill quite a bit better than Czech the 2nd half and then at the very end our "fans" start throwing flares at the field, it's idiotic, it's a self sabotage by a group of idiots...and then that penalty and playign with hand which wasn't right at all, it wasn't intentional and it was Czech attack, there was no need for that yellow card and penalty...great match ruined by bad fans and one dumb decision by the reff.

Absolutely disgraceful scenes at the Croatia v Czech Rep game, and I'm not talking about Croatia shitting the bed and throwing away a seemingly nailed-on win. I'd be surprised if they don't get a suspended disqualification, similar to the Russians.

...and then that penalty and playign with hand which wasn't right at all, it wasn't intentional and it was Czech attack, there was no need for that yellow card and penalty...great match ruined by bad fans and one dumb decision by the reff.

That was one of the most obvious penalties you'll ever see. There was absolutely no reason for his arms to be up around his head like that.

oh don't worry there is a lot of people who want their heads on a stick, I'm sure this will have huge consequences and we'll be on the same page as russians now, we had a winning game and then that small group of apes with brains the size of a potato (combined) decided that they had to do what they did...that break mentally ruined our players, not gonna lie we didn't play perfectly and we do have holes in our defense but we should have won that...

I'm super surprised we actually got point from that match... =D

Croatia was undoubtedly better, but Modric's injury became a big factor in giving us the edge and shaking Croatia.

And the "fans"... just wow...  How can this happen on such a big tournament... no idea.

and then that penalty and playign with hand which wasn't right at all, it wasn't intentional and it was Czech attack,

You may not see it that objectively (could be said about me as well, I guess =D) but the penalty was obvious.

It was critical fault of Vida, you can't jump into box header with hands in the front.

You don't need to touch ball intentionally with your hand for penalty to be called. According to rules, nothing happens only if the ball hits your hand while it's tightly pressed against your back.

I think they changed this to give advantage to attacking players.

As for the attack, you may be right, but this is just common happening in the box. There are many fights like this one without referee's blowing his whistle.
