My guess would be that one of the robots landed on your head or very close by and that killed you.

There were no robots yet. I just reached the elevator, hid, then remembered that I need to press the button to activate the elevator and died during climbing animation

I believe that the spot you've died on that elevator is a death barrier since I remember watching some failed runs ending exactly at that very spot, just like in your footage.

That is pretty funny but ngl that’s very unfortunate! 😆 That room seems to be a death trap with all the bizarre and buggy ways you can die. Aside from robots landing on you, one that a lot of people don’t realize can happen (even though it’s pretty common) is a bug where the helicopter landing causes an instant death. I’ve seen this one in a lot of videos.
 

The thing is — you don’t even have to be underneath it or anywhere near it for that matter, or using the battle walkers, or to be doing anything at all that would make sense really. Sometimes it just lands and if you’re anywhere out in the open it will just insta-kill you without explanation. I always waited safely underneath the cover until it fully landed for that very reason, and I never used battlewalkers to reach the exit prompt for fear of clipping the helicopter blades.

Everything that could go wrong - gone wrong. This was so shitty stream that it had to be this one. 

Shit stream quality, strats failing, my brother having mental breakdown because of personal trauma, had to pause the game and calm him for an hour. I was gonna stop the stream, but eventually he got better and even joined the stream chat to cheer me up. Then everything gone even worse, I was on the edge of death a few more times. I was nervous, everything was so slow and wrong in my mind. And then it just happened. I beat Mein Leben. 

I'm so happy! I was scared of this plat for almost 5 years and now it's mine. 

Done. Never playing it again. Would recommend to everyone, incredibly rewarding plat. The end))

I don't know if this is a known strat for elevator section, but I'll post my clip here. Strangely, no one seems to use it, but it never failed me and I view it as safest and 100% consistent. I kill everyone on the lower floor, activate elevator, then hide on the back right corner.

1 Supersoldier dies on landing from a charged lasercraftwerk shot.

Then 1 robot rushes you from the left - I shotgun him.

Second supersoldier dies as the first one did.

Fnally second robot rushes you from right - shotgun him. And no one rushes you on upper floor.

Why people still bother with stealth shenanigans and the rail jump?

Interesting tactic, gonna give this a shot on a practice run. The first half of your strategy is more or less identical to what I do, except I jump and run the rails instead of taking the elevator, which I then have to blast my way through rushing enemies and rush myself to the despawn point which is nerve-racking at times. This looks a hell of a lot safer, thanks!

I did it, I bloody did it. I don’t think I’ve ever put this much work into one trophy, maybe even more than I did for the Impossible Boy trophy from Super Meat Boy. The feeling of when I finally made the final ladder climb on the Ausmerzer towards the level exit was unmatched. The feeling of relief, excitement and anticipation as I was a couple of minutes away from earning what would be one of the toughest Platinums I have attempted. 

It wasn’t all smooth sailing, though. I began my Mein Leben attempts after a solid week of practice on my I Am Death Incarnate backup saves. 

Word of warning, a very long post incoming. Inspired by @dieselmanchild, I kept a death diary to keep a track of my deaths that I often referred back to for refining my strategies where required. As a stats nerd, I love graphs and anything numbers related, so here’s a bar graph showing my progress per attempt, until my successful attempt on the 52nd (!) try.

 

And without further ado, some therapeutic reading from my death diary that can help you pass the time when waiting for that intro cutscene to finish…

25 November

• Attempt 1 - Died at Manhattan 1
  Alerted the very first alarm with the two commanders whilst trying to melee kill the very first enemy in the building. Normally he's looking away from my direction but this time he turned and started shooting, alerting the alarm. I ran to the top to despawn the enemies, which I did...only to be seen by that damn drone in the next section...alerting the next alarm. Brilliant. Tried to book it to the subway entrance but was promptly taken out by two soldiers. Welcome to Mein Leben. 
• Attempt 2 - Died at Eva's Hammer
  Keen to jump back into it and better my previous attempt, I was killed by the third enemy in the very first encounter of the game. Lesson learnt. Don't rush. 
• Attempt 3 - Died at Ausmerzer 1
  My strategy for the second-last encounter of the second level was to open the Ausmerzer door, camp on the left side behind cover and kill the three soldiers and one Supersoldat from there. Except this is a risky strategy if your aim is as bad as mine under pressure. Killed the soldiers but the Supersoldat was getting close so I tried to run to a different place for cover. He promptly shot me in the back and sent me back to the main menu. 
• Attempt 4 - Died at Manhattan 1
  Literally the very first enemy in Manhattan that's walking away before entering the building with two commanders. Shot him about four times and he didn't die, alterted the alarm and I was rushed in seconds. Stupid way to die. 
• Attempt 5 - Died at Roswell Underground
  Finally, some progress past Manhattan. Doesn't make this death any easier to take, though. On the rocket train section, I dropped down to melee kill the first robot, only somehow I was seen - which has never happened on a practice run. Things spiralled from there. 
• Attempt 6 - Died at Ausmerzer 1
  Almost identical to my death in Attempt 3.  I decided I'd revise my strategy for this section. I jumped into an IADI practice save and decided to take out one or two of the guards, before sprinting to the right and hiding in the vent leading to the weapons room used earlier in the level. From there, any remaining soldiers would come to you and be easy to pick off from cover inside the vent, and the Supersoldat becomes comically easy to kill as he'll eventually come and stand right in front/near the vent and you can shoot his legs until he dies. I didn’t fail a run at this encounter from here onwards. 

26 November

 

• Attempt 7 - Died at Courthouse 
  Finished the first phase under the bench, killed the two Supersoldats and waited for the dog, which I promptly killed. However, I panicked a bit and waited a little too long, as when I got out of cover to run through the now open door leading upstairs, I was gunned down by two soldiers off to the side who had made their way to that location. Lesson learnt, don't linger around once killing the dog. 
• Attempt 8 - Softlocked at Ausmerzer 1
  Attempting the level skip in Ausmerzer 1 and got stuck in the box. So annoying.
• Attempt 9 - Died at Eva's Hammer
  Killed by one of the enemies in the five-enemy encounter after the second elevator. Thought I'd killed all of the enemies on the ground and ducked out of cover to kill the last enemy that sits on the upper far right behind the pipes, only to be ruthlessly gunned down by the remaining enemy I'd missed.

27 November

 

• Attempt 10 - Died at Roswell Underground
  Again at the start of the rocket train sequence; tried headshotting the two soldiers on the upper railing. Succeeded with one, didn't with the other and the robot on the lower floor was alerted, followed by the alarm. Things went south quickly from there as I tried to book it to the exit, unsuccessfully. No point in killing these two soldiers at all, classic case of overthinking under pressure. 
• Attempt 11 - Softlocked at Ausmerzer 1
  Identical to Attempt 8. I absolutely hate the first section of the skip. 
• Attempt 12 - Died at Roswell Oberkommando
  Did the elevator skip, and Rambo'd through with my shotguns to get to the area to despawn this encounter. Was about to hop the railing inside the building to run to the end and was shot in the back by a soldier I missed, ending my run.  
• Attempt 13 - Died at Penthouse
  Normally I use the "lean and hide behind the curtain" glitch to be unseen and have the helicopter take everyone out, which has worked every time so far. This time, however, I must've not been in the right position and was seen not long after the helicoper arrived. Got flustered, aim was bad, and was killed quite quickly. 
• Attempt 14 - Died at Penthouse
  Thought the previous death was a case of bad luck, and thought I'd nailed my hiding spot this time. NOPE. Decided I'd change my tactic to more offensive for future attempts. 

28 November

 

• Attempt 15 - Died at Eva's Hammer
  New day, excited to try again. Dead at the first encounter while trying to rush. My impatience is a problem sometimes.
• Attempt 16 - Died at Roswell Underground
  At the section with the first commander, was somehow spotted by the dog when I leaned up while crouching on the stairs to get a sight on the commander. This mongrel was looking right at me and charged at me, which alerted the commander. Killed the commander and pulled the lever, but a soldier had run into the room on the other side. Ran to the railing to jump to the train but was killed just as I was about to jump. That damn dog.
• Attempt 17 - Died at Roswell Oberkommando
  Almost identical to Attempt 12. From this failure, I always make sure overcharge my health before the elevator skip and attempting this hectic section, making it a lot easier to survive if I do get hit a few times.
• Attempt 18 - Died at Eva's Hammer
  Killed by the lone soldier after the first elevator. Shot him in the legs as I was going up, thought I'd killed him (I didn't), and was promptly shot in the back as I wheeled forward. 
• Attempt 19 - Died at Penthouse
  Went immediately on the offensive from the hiding spot and started to take out enemies with the dual Sturmgewers. This of course gives away my position, but with some half-decent aim this shouldn't be an issue. A supersoldat came in and began walking up the stairs on the right side, right in front of the hiding spot. Panicked as this doesn't usually happen so I decided to quickly throw a grenade, except the grenade hit my cover and landed at my feet, taking out most of my health and armour, putting me on my arse and into a sitting duck. Tried to readjust my position quickly but got wasted in no time. 

29 November

• Attempt 20 - Died at Penthouse
  Horrible attempt. Distracted irl beforehand, aim was bad and had a couple close calls in the earlier levels. There were three enemies on the left and one on the right of my hiding spot at one point and got overwhelmed and killed.
• Attempt 21 - Died at Courthouse
  Killed by the very first enemy as I fumbled under the bench to pick up the Hammergewer. So annoyed.
• Attempt 22 - Died at Penthouse
  Almost identical to Attempt 20. Burnout was getting to me after a long day and was promptly killed. It was late but I decided to go for one more attempt...
• Attempt 23 - Died at Penthouse
  ...only to die at the Penthouse again. I learnt how to properly do the hiding glitch (down inside the box/bin) instead of the curtains so this level was no longer a problem in future runs. 

30 November

• Attempt 24 - Died at Manhattan 1
  Another bad attempt. Alerted the drone and alarm after picking off the two soldiers talking to each other. Missed the jump on the side of the building, tried to run up to try again but was killed by two other soldiers that had come round. 
• Attempt 25 - Died at Manhattan Ruins
  At the start of the Zitadelle section, I always headshot the one soldier that walks down the stairway and comes to a stop at ground level. Only this time I shot him in the head about three times and he still didn't die. Panicked and tried to kill him asap but the alarm was alerted. Went up to jump the platforms to the other building but was rushed by the damn dog, and was quickly dispatched of by the commander not far behind. 
• Attempt 26 - Died at Eva's Hammer
  Missed the shot to blow up the fire extinguisher to kill the two guards while riding the conveyor down towards the end of the level. Killed one guard, but taken out by the other. Frustrating death.
• Attempt 27 - Died at Eva's Hammer
  Identical to the previous death. I never had an issue with this section before, I think frustration was creeping in. 
• Attempt 28 - Died at Roswell Oberkommando
  First section, after the elevator lands, I funnel out the enemies from the entrance and the Supersoldat usually follows not long after from the side, which I usually take out using my shotguns. He was taking a bit longer than usual, so I popped out of cover to have a look, only for him to be standing right around the corner. He charged and took out a massive chunk of my health and armour, and I was knocked on the floor. Rushing to get back up, he destroyed me with his lasers. 
• Attempt 29 - Softlocked at Ausmerzer 1
  Repeat of Attempts 8 and 11. Decided it was a sign for me to go get some sleep as it was very late. 

1 December

• Attempt 30 - Died at Manhattan Bunker
  Finally past the Courthouse, some progress. I've never messed up the Bunker level before on a practice run, but things went south as I was spotted and attacked by the dog in the end section leading to the bunker entrance. Killed it, and thought I killed all of the soldiers, but there was one I'd missed off to the left somewhere near the end of this section. Used my Battle Walkers to try get to the bunker entrance, not knowing that soldier was still alive, and was promptly shot down.
• Attempt 31 - Died at Manhattan Bunker
  The damn bunker again. I went to attempt the skip, made it out of bounds and took my first jump, only to glitch through the floor and plummet to my death. PAIN. 

2 December

• Attempt 32 - Died at Venus 1
  Best run by far. Every strategy up to Venus executed to perfection, no close calls. Made it to the first stealth section where the first supersoldat is walking to the right. I normally kill the soldier directly ahead with a thrown hatchet, then quickly kill the two soldiers (one standing and one sitting) at the end of the hallway with a quick silenced headshot. If done right, the supersoldat will still be making his way with his back to me, however I took too long to kill these three soldiers and was quickly spotted by the supersoldat who had already begun to walk back and shot at me. I survived, and tried to make a run for it through the hallways in an attempt to make it to the transport pod but was killed on the way by one of those damn robots. 

3 December

• Attempt 33 - Softlocked at Ausmerzer 1
  This shit again. 
• Attempt 34 - Died at New Orleans Day
  Missed the jump in the warehouse to skip the crane section and panicked as to where to go as I didn’t have a backup strategy incase I missed the jump (I learnt later there’s a room you can camp in to the right to funnel enemies). Got shot down by three soldiers. 

4 December

• Attempt 35 - Died at Venus 1
  Didn’t get much further than Attempt 32. Same stealth section - took out the three soldiers and Supersoldat with no issues. Went forward to hide next to the doorway to let the next Supersoldat pass, except he somehow saw me or heard me, stopped, then came round the corner at me. With nowhere to go, I ran out and blasted him with the shotguns, but was then caught and killed by the commander’s dog. 
• Attempt 36 - Died at Courthouse
  Right at the end of the second phase, where the two robots spawn in. I’m camped in the safe area upstairs with all the ammo/armour/health and never have a problem taking the two robots out. They came close together from the closer side on the left; took out the first one, didn’t have my eye on my clip ammo and went to kill the second only for BJ to reload the gun, which gave the second robot enough time to end my run then and there.

5 December

• Attempts 37 and 38 - Died at Eva’s Hammer
  Both very cheap deaths while trying to rush through the first level. 
• Attempt 39 - Died at Manhattan Bunker
  Another death down to bad reload timing. Very last enemy before the entrance to the bunker. Very avoidable. 
• Attempt 40 - Died at Eva’s Hammer
  Another death because of me being too impatient. Missed the fire extinguisher completely at the conveyor section and got lit up. 

6 December

• Attempt 41 - Died at Ausmerzer 2 (Final Level)
  This one was painful. Best run so far, flawless up through to the final level, with every strategy executed perfectly. Made it to the final fight, killed all six Supersoldat, waited for the first Zerstorer to pop out so I can headshot him…only to be shot in the back by a rogue soldier that must’ve taken a different path from usual. Went from full health and armour down to about 40 health in a flash. I tried to make a run for it to the side tunnels under the arena to pick up some health and armour but was killed on the way by another soldier. 
• Attempt 42 - Died at Roswell Oberkommando
  In the section where you have to plant the bomb, during the stealth section before planting the bomb itself. Killed the first commander, hopped the railing and tried to shoot the one walking soldier as usual. Shot him about four or five times and he didn’t die. Saw me, alarm triggered. I’ve never triggered the alarm here so wasn’t sure what to expect. Ran back to the area where the first commander was and got cleaned up by about three robots from different directions. 
• Attempt 43 - Died at Roswell Underground
  Messed up the jump to the train…twice. Would’ve survived if I had only messed up once but was met with a handful of soldiers at the top when I tried to go for my third attempt and took me out in no time. Poor. 

7 December

• Attempt 44 - Game reset at Manhattan Bunker
  So technically the attempt was from the night before. I put the PS5 in rest mode after making it to the start of the Bunker as it was quite late, and would continue the run the following day after work. Rest mode has worked just fine for me in continuing runs from the night before/during the day with no issues, but there was a PS5 software update that I didn’t know about that installed automatically when put in rest mode, closing my game and prematurely ending my run. Absolutely livid. I turned off the option to automatically install updates in rest mode after this, lesson learnt. 
• Attempt 45 - Died at Eva’s Hammer
  Frustrated from the software update debacle, I rushed back into another attempt, only to yet again miss the fire extinguisher near the end of the first level and get lit up back to the main menu. Cool. 
• Attempt 46 - Died at Roswell Oberkommando
  Stupid, avoidable death. The section right after the big elevator, tried to rush through to the next area and was deservedly killed by two soldiers when rounding the corner. 

8 December

• Attempt 47 - Died at Venus 2
  Set off alarm in the first area indoors. Ran down to the underside area to pick off any enemies near to where the commander is. Did quite well, and only had two Supersoldaten to deal with. Rushed out to find cover so I can get a clear sight on them, and decided to throw a grenade…which somehow bounced off something not far from them and back towards me, blowing me up in the process. Never trusting grenades here again. 
• Attempt 48 - Died at Ausmerzer 2 (Final Level)
  This one was infuriating. Strats executed almost flawlessly up until this run (bar a close call on Venus 2 after messing up the Battle Walker skip). Right at the start of the level, I forgot that you have to turn around and run, and just walked forward, right into the breaking bridge and straight down to my death. 3+ hours of progress ruined by one moment of stupidity. 
• Attempt 49 - Died at Roswell Underground
  Was somehow seen in the stealth section when riding the top of the rocket train carriages and got cleaned up by the Supersoldat. 

9 December

• Attempt 50 - Died at Ausmerzer 2 (Final Level)
  Made it to where the Zitadelle (big robot) comes in not far from the end. Normally I’d take it out with two charged Laserkraftwerk shots but I had forgotten to charge it in a previous area. Had one shot, but wasn’t enough to take it out. Tried to shoot it with a Kampfpistole, and little did I know the shot ricocheted off the very edge of the wall I was hiding behind, landing not far from me and destroying me. Second time I’ve blown myself up in less than 24 hours. Truly comical. And I only realised what had happened after watching the recorded playback from the PS5, I originally thought the Zitadelle had somehow shot me. 
• Attempt 51 - Died at Penthouse
  Was somehow seen and killed as I made my way to my hiding spot in the corner before I had even climbed the box. This has literally never happened in any run before.
• Attempt 52 - SUCCESS!!!!! 
  Finally. It’s over, it’s done. It didn’t come without its scares, though. Had two encounters go sideways in New Orleans Night and Lakeview, both of which I somehow survived on 1 health after being caught off guard by a couple enemies that didn’t act as they always did. Had another big scare in the final fight with the second set of Supersoldaten; shot the first one thinking I had killed it, then killed the second. Moved forward to get ready for the third set, only for the first from the previous set to shoot me in the back, depleting all of my armour. Luckily quickly turned to blast him in the face and survive the rest of the fight. 

If you've somehow made it this far, I hope you enjoyed reading through my painful but rewarding journey for this crazy feat. If there's something to take away from this, it's that no matter how difficult the challenge, enough practice, patience and perseverance will eventually get you across the line. I'm well below average with FPS games and my aim can be laughably bad at times and still managed to do it. So if I can, you can too! A massive shout out to a lot of you in this thread for sharing strats for some sticky sections, particularly @scoreaddict for his brilliant Safe Strategies Mein Leben guide.

Haha after the first few times, I learnt it's best to keep myself busy watching a YouTube video or make myself a coffee while it plays out in the background. I never give up, just used each death as a learning experience!

Agreed. It was definitely new to me, I've never used Rest mode on the PS5 on any other game.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your Death Diary. Attempts #41, 44, and 48 were particularly brutal so kudos to you for not losing focus! I literally had the exact same misfortune of getting shot in the back at the final boss and it was a crucial moment for me where that mental toughness had to kick in, because it was crushing to say the least, especially with how well things went up to that point. I can’t believe you accidentally walked off the bridge at the start of Ausmerzer 2 either lmao, that’s hilarious! Just as bad a brain fart as when I accidentally clicked the wrong dialogue at Hitler and nuked a good run hahaha.
 

I saw the video you posted in the chat of your successful run and how close that Supersoldat came to killing you.. gotta say amazing work at recovering quickly and staying calm and composed for that final charge up the ladder. It was executed perfectly. I can imagine how great that felt!

 

Final thoughts… I think your graph was a really beautiful touch and very interesting to look at now. As frustrating as all the setbacks can be while you’re actually in the thick of it, it’s pretty neat to be able to analyze your graph now and see that you were actually making very steady progress with each passing day. I mean you can pretty much draw a diagonal line across the graph from your first attempt to your final! 😁

I can’t believe you accidentally walked off the bridge at the start of Ausmerzer 2 either lmao, that’s hilarious! Just as bad a brain fart as when I accidentally clicked the wrong dialogue at Hitler and nuked a good run hahaha.
 

I saw the video you posted in the chat of your successful run and how close that Supersoldat came to killing you.. gotta say amazing work at recovering quickly and staying calm and composed for that final charge up the ladder. It was executed perfectly. I can imagine how great that felt!

 

Final thoughts… I think your graph was a really beautiful touch and very interesting to look at now. As frustrating as all the setbacks can be while you’re actually in the thick of it, it’s pretty neat to be able to analyze your graph now and see that you were actually making very steady progress with each passing day. I mean you can pretty much draw a diagonal line across the graph from your first attempt to your final! 😁

I couldn't believe my luck (or lack thereof) when that soldier shot me in the back, considering that had happened maybe twice over 30+ practice runs of that final fight, but I figured if I made it that far once then the whole thing definitely wasn't out of my reach. I generally kept quite calm across most of my deaths (considering I mostly play late nights when my daughter is asleep), but the walk off the bridge at the start of Ausmerzer 2 had me yell into a pillow out of frustration and is just about the one time I lost it in all of these attempts 🤣Oh man, misclicking a line in the Venus audition would absolutely suck! Can't imagine the frustration haha

 

Surviving the supersoldat in the final fight had my heart racing, and even more so when I made it up the ladder and into the vent! Such a great feeling overall though. 

 

I noticed that sort of trend in my graph too, just goes to show that persistence and practice are so important for this challenge.

Congratulations! Thank you for sharing your story in such detail. I love reading the death diary. And the visualization of your deaths is impressive. Some brutal deaths in there! Can’t imagine the Venus and Ausmerzer 2 deaths. (I had one Ausmerzer 2 deaths in 50 tries and it was devastating - try #30 if I remember correctly.)

Damn. I remember something unexplainable happening to me in one run during the Manhattan level. No enemies around (at least I thought) and died while crossing through the building.
