I know it inspired a friends approval of me when I loaned them the game and my playstation for months. To this day, the same person has the same special connection through this game with me. I don't mean creepy, it's like it's our secret and she has since married a friend who doesn't even know. I was such a show off kid doing skateboard tricks just to impress people, many rpg's told me "Stop being a dick", FF7 sealed the deal.
