Long time, no update! After several weeks, I've finally got my third game on the board (my updated checklist is in the spoiler at the bottom of this post):

Discovery Tour: Viking Age

 

Earlier this month, I learned that Hitman (2016) & Hitman 2 (2018) are getting de-listed tomorrow (January 26th), and put the majority of my gaming focus on those games, as both were sitting in my PS Plus Library, and I didn't want to miss out on the potential of getting 100% (especially with Hitman 2...I had to buy the Expansion Pass for that...). As a result, I got to the point yesterday where I REALLY needed a palette cleanser / break from Agent 47 for a little bit. 

 

I saw Discovery Tour: Viking Age in the Under $20 sale (NA) this week, and was reminded that it was also sitting untouched in my library. I originally bought it around the time of its release as I found the Discovery Tour: Ancient Egypt DLC of Assassin's Creed: Origins extremely enjoyable when I played it back in September 2021. (Yes, I've really only played the Discovery Tour for that, lol). I'm a big history buff, and the idea of being able to learn more about Viking & Anglo-Saxon history/culture was exciting to me. The fact that it's a stand-alone DLC with trophy support didn't hurt either. ?

 

If you're coming to this game already having experienced it through Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, you may have a different perspective than the one I'm about to share. But, as someone who has not played through the main game, I found playing through Discovery Tour to be a fun and relaxing experience. The visuals are stunning, and all the details added to the combat-free, open-world environments of the game were a joy to explore. Plus, each of the 178 collectibles provided context and historical background to the events depicted in the narrative quests you play through, and didn't feel like a chore to collect. If I'm being perfectly honest though, the narrative stories are generally pretty average and are more snapshots of events in characters' lives, rather than grand epics. But, they serve their purpose of immersing you in the in-game world and, as stated before, have a nice synergy with the educational collectables. (Seriously, I learned a lot more than I expected!)

 

Furthermore, I personally didn't feel like the main game was spoiled for me either. Yes, there were some (minor) references to characters and environments from AC: Valhalla. But, I didn't feel like they impacted my experience of Discovery Tour in a negative way. If anything, it makes me more interested in checking the main game out. (Though I have a lot of games to get through in the series before that can happen!)

It's OK. It's short and fairly easy, but not so easy that you feel cheated. You could do a lot worse for less than a dollar.

Works for white… could be better in light blue, but if you have one in mind for that, I wouldn’t bump on white for it ?

I'm likely to play Paraiso Island next weekend, since I don't want to play P3P on a different system, to avoid running into a glitched trophy (still, I don't understand exactly why trophies are glitchinf for some people on it).

 

The game image in question is this:

So, where does it fit? This image is such a colour mess that I can't pinpoint the "main colour" of it.. I'm leaning towards Green, but not totally sure.

 

Also, the game is supposed to not be that good, but it should be a fast F2P 100%, and I need to play a F2P for BingoBonanza2023.. so, it fits the bill.. (the other F2P games that I thought about were Cuties Hacked and Caravan Stories, but both have a much higher average completion and worse trophy images..).

I'd say you could probably get away with light blue or green. Possibly even tan. Although, the fact that it's arguable for so many colours means it's probably not an ideal one for any colour really.

Speaking of tricky colours, I've had Lamentum in my backlog for about a year, and this is the image: 

 

Now, I would typically consider that 'tan'. But the shade of tan for this challenge is very light – almost mustardy. So is this better for brown? Or neither, perhaps? I can probably find better for both, tbh. It triggers me a little when the colours are off-shade haha.

That's a tough one - and kinda leans towards the idea that not EVERY game has a dominant colour, and is therefore valid for the challenge...

 

...but push comes to shove, I think Green.

That one is borderline for both Tan and Brown, and could work for either - really depends on if your other Brown or Tan game was lighter or darker than it, so see which spot fits it

Aye, I figured as much. I might just use something else. I have a few others that are probably a better fit, and I can still clear Lamentum off my backlog. It's a very short game and fits with some other challenges I'm doing.

Ok, then I will mark it at least temporarily for Green when I complete it and replace if I get something more suitable (from my notes, my original idea was Lost Sphear for Green and Ni no Kuni 2 for Light Green).

Added you - prelim list looks good - Light Green and Grey are a little borderline, but both acceptable - note though, each image should only cover one box, so Chicory is good for White, but not Purple!

Besides, I believe the grey background in Indivisible trophy tile is not actually grey, but a transparent background.

I saw that - and it is borderline... but I think with the silver medal, and the stars, Grey would be acceptable for that one

Woops, completely forgot that Chicory was a duplicate one. I have a ton of purple candidates though, so no problem.

Finished my second game with Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights.

It is a metroidvania with very light souls-like elements. You have your save points called resprites where you can heal and refill your healings but all the enemies get revived by doing so. If you die you start at the last resprite you rested at but you don't loose anything like experience or collected items.

I don't play many metroidvania games but this one was recommended to by by a friend so I tried it and I have to say it was a good choice. It took me around 18 hours to complete and I had fun with it every minute. Typically for a metroidvania you explore the areas, collect stuff and get new abilities to reach new locations. The new abilities in this game are given to you after defeating the main bosses.

I actually wanted to play this game more than God of War: Ragnarök which I bought just after starting this game.

 

 

I guess the image works for grey since there are way blacker images than that one.

I haven't slotted this game for the exact same reason. Lol. Brown and light blue def work. Brown is probably the color I would choose, since that is what draws my eye first.

I had also thought of using this for brown so I'd say brown is a strong choice as most are thinking the same colour

Have any of you thought about pixelating the images to find out dominant colors? There are tons of online pages that do that. just set pixels to be giant so you have only a few in the end.

with pixelation you can clearly see that, for example, this one fits much more as a dark green/brown at the most, but blue is very limited here   

 

 

No clue if that would be helpful for anyone lol, it's just my art focused ass immediately thought of pixelating it as aid

For games that don't have an obvious dominant colour I think it's better to just not use them for the event unless you get down to your last colour and are desperate for something that works

I'd love for LiS to be white, but I also thought it was Tan. Made it a toss up for me between it and Plague Tale Requiem for tan.  Are you an official color judge? I'd be down for that to count as white.
