Aranea Highwind
People have been asking for it pretty much since the PlayStation 4 launched, and Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Worldwide Studios, has confirmed that the ability to turn off the DualShock 4′s light bar will be coming in a future PS4 firmware update. This news comes from Geoff Keighley, who tweeted: Just interviewed [shuhei Yoshida] and he said that upcoming PS4 firmware will let you turn off light bar on controller! Shuhei has previously denied that this would be happening, but it looks like the feedback from fans has persuaded them to give people the option to turn off the light bar. It remains to be seen if turning off the light bar will be a feature added in firmware update 1.70 (there was no mention of it), so this could be something we see in an update after 1.70. Once we hear more information about being able turn off the DualShock 4′s light bar, we’ll be sure to let you know. http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2014/03/20/ability-to-turn-of-the-dualshock-4s-light-bar-coming-future-firmware-update/
KitsuneChaos
I understand the use of it as a controller number indicator, but aside from that, it just poses as a waste of battery life for me. Thus why I'm looking forward to this becoming a possibility.

PREDRAG-K
From @yosp @geoffkeighley no, I said dim the LED, not turn off This. Just checked Geoff's twitter, and he confirmed that he made a mistake. You can only dim the light.
Parker
Hopefully even dimming the light will save some battery. I love the DS4 but it has a pretty bad battery life. Parker
xVolloxx
Saw this earlier and this is good , to dim the light would save probably an hour or two of battery life as at the moment i have to charge it roughly twice a day .
Ryumoau
i suppose dimming it is better than nothing. really bad design choice not given us control of that in the first place.
Masamune
It never really bothered me but if it saves on battery life I'll probably dim it as much as I can.
damon8r351
I just want a controller that doesn't need to be recharged after maybe 6 hours on a good day. I feel that's not too much to ask.
phytopathology27
It wouldn't be much of a problem if Sony never downgraded the battery for the DS4 like the DS3. Both take the same kind of battery, but in the DS4, it's only 1000mAH battery, unlike the DS3 it's 1800mAH battery. That can make a big difference.
STRANGEgenius
Wont dim it, since I have a decal over the light which looks bad ass
ARIXANDRE
Like many have said, you can only dim the light but not turn it off completely.
Shadiochao
I don't even notice it. That's kind of my problem with it. Whether it takes a lot of battery power or not, I can't even see the light at all due to the way I hold my controller. It's just an unnecessary drain that I'd prefer not to have. antithesis
The LED for the light draws little power. If you want to extend the battery life, turn off the audio and rumble. Alternately, get a second controller and swap between them...simples.

skateak
I doubt you'll save that much battery. It's just a couple LED lights. The always-on trackpad, although needed, is probably what's using the most battery.
Parker
It'd be nice if they'd allow us to change the color of the light as well, it doesn't seem like it should be difficult to do that. Parker

Parker
The pad has audio? Yessir. Not all games it but there are some that do. The audio logs in Killzone: Shadow Fall play through the speaker in the controller. Parker

Parker I didn't know this, how is the sound quality? Does it add anything special to the audio? I couldn't stand the Wii audio, it sounded like an old pinball machine

I couldn't stand the Wii audio, it sounded like an old pinball machine The sound quality is actually pretty damn good, the voices were very clear and it didn't seem to be distorted in any way. It actually scared the shit out of me the first time it happened. I was playing Shadow Fall well into the night (I went to the midnight release of the PS4) so my television volume was down pretty far because my wife and son were sleeping, when I picked up my first audio log it blasted through that speaker at what seemed like ear shattering levels as I scrambled to try and cover it up with something. Thankfully you can turn down the speaker volume in the PS4 settings. Parker

Sounds like a pretty neat feature though. The LED light seems pretty bright, isn't it a little distracting if it reflects in your telly?

When I'm playing an actual game I don't recall ever seeing it. Parker
