Party Hard 2 [NA] / 0% - 81% / Rarest earned trophy: 10.60%

This is likely my final update before tonight's slasher hits. There are a couple more trophies I could get in that time, but I am feeling pretty tired and am not sure I want to keep playing at the moment. I will talk more about the game in depth once I finish it within the next couple of days. Suffice to say I am enjoying it, though it does have some short comings.

Made some decent ground this week.

Minutes ago I finished the last DLC for Alan Wake, making my 7th completion of the event. The DLCs were alright but nothing special. Having a no-death run for each was an interesting decision, I got both on my 2nd try after taking the first run to do misc/collectibles and learn the scenarios. I did shamelessly play on easy for these!

I also did one of the little co-op modes in FEAR 3, Soul King. You and your opponent (a split-screen idle controller in my case) try to possess and kill as many enemies as possible in a three minute round, with tougher enemies giving a higher score. Overall it's just your typical multiplayer boost thing, though admittedly I like FEAR 3's gun mechanics a bit so it was pleasant enough. The real draw was that it got me 100+ points toward this event in just about 1 hour of game time! I probably won't continue with the game until I knock out a few other completions first.

My real push for the week was in Aliens: Colonial Marines. It is, in fact, awful. Playing on the highest difficulty to start with and I would say it's not too challenging as yet, the main enemies for me have been the motion sickness caused by janky cameras + textures popping in and out. It's a bit of a brutal game to get through! Much as I like Aliens as well as easy URs. But I do think I am acclimating, and my ambitious goal is to grab plat by next week.

Pushed myself all the way to the end of Trillion: God of Destruction today and that will probably be it before the slasher hits. Though that's only one of the required ten playthroughs needed for the platinum in that, so I have a lot of work to do if I want to finish it up!

Want to throw my update in right before the deadline.

Finished Ghostbusters. Made for a fun "cinematic" action game. Was not careful with the damage, ended up having to run thru the game three times. Thankfully, it is pretty short and some cutscenes can be skipped.

Also, completed Control. It is a sci-fi, psychological(?) adventure game. You battle and investigate corruption caused by the hiss. There are definitely some horror elements with the altered items and the zombie-like hiss enemies. Most of the details of the story went straight over my head. I probably was not paying attention to a conversation or two early on that carried the exposition necessary to tie the story up for me. The game itself plays great. Best described as a third person shooter, where you also have some super powers, including the ability to levitate. The controls worked pretty well for the complex movements the game allows you to have. It is also a gorgeous game. My PS4 sounds like it was going to take off into space, and the game stuttered whenever it exited the pause screen, but otherwise it held up well. I will play it again on PS5 sometime, hopefully it makes more sense to me then.

Total of 8 completions. Looks like I can procrastinate Bound by Flame for up to 4 more games....

Zombi - 50th fastest is 1 day, 12 hours. - 0->100% - 3.29%

Party Hard 2 [NA] / 0% - 100% / Rarest earned trophy: 2.55%

Copied from my post in the Ultra Rare Cleanup thread:, you can skip if you read it there:

Finished off another game. A fun but ultimately disappointing sequel. The party hard games are not for everyone, the pace can be slow but I totally dig it. Getting to be a slasher while you set traps and murder party goers is a lot of fun.

Party Hard 2 transitions the series from 2D to 3D environments. As well it introduces a lot more objective types to mix up the levels instead of just killing everyone. The formula still works, but there is a general lack of polish in this sequel that brings it down. There are a lot of minor bugs like getting stuck on geometry or guards / cops seeing you when they are turned away (and once when a guard was dead they somehow saw me and caught me). The randomness of certain items spawning is a pain, especially when certain tasks needed for the plat require them to spawn, resulting in the player just restarting the level over and over until they get them. The cops and guards are terminators and if they see you they sprint directly at you with unlimited speed so unless you are standing right next to an instant kill trap or can time an item perfectly then you are already dead. The cops also seem to know your general area even if they don't see you making it hard to avoid them without abusing shortcuts if they get called on you. It could have been balanced better.

It was also disappointing how few level unique traps and distractions there are. Mostly you will just be blowing up gumball machines, speakers and kegs and burning people on BBQs. There are a few unique traps, like a table you can push people into on the hospital level, and a piano you can drop on the motel level for example, but I was hoping for a lot more considering the first game had the same issue with not enough unique traps. There is a lot more usable items in this sequel, which is nice, as well as a crafting system to make more items. But as I mentioned with the RNG if the items you need to craft together don't spawn together you are not using them. As a result a large chunk of the new items I ended up never using.

The last two paragraphs have admittedly been pretty negative but I do want to stress while these things were disappointing I was still enjoying the formula overall. And aside from one trophy it is actually a very easy game to 100%. The trophy that is an issue isn't because its hard, but because it's glitched. You have to do all the hidden objectives on all levels, and when you finish the trophy doesn't pop. There is a work around on the forums that seems to work for a lot of people where you start a new save and complete a specific objective in a specific way. It didn't work for me so I just kept playing that second save doing all the hidden objectives again without changing my character and eventually it popped when I was about 70% done with them. That glitch is the only reason it's an ultra rare plat.

On a positive note I am now the fastest earner of the NA stack of the game, and second faster earner between both stacks. It could certainly be done faster than me though.
Also worth noting that while the DLC does not have any trophies attached it is worth buying as the DLC character Marena makes a lot of the games objectives easier since her basic attacks doesn't immediately kill most NPC's but rather knocks them out without alerting anyone. This allows you to carry victims away to secluded areas to kill them more quietly and hid the bodies. Absolutely worth having. To be honest if someone else does attempt this game I would recommend only playing as her until you get the hidden objectives trophy.

Decided to start up Alan Wake last night. Considering that I beat the original game on PC, I am just using a collectibles guide from the beginning since I remember most of the story anyways, just need a refresher on some of the story beats before I jump into Control and Alan Wake II eventually (after the event, obviously). Also kept improving Trillion with a new rarest trophy - next one after this should be a VR trophy if I get that far this week. Akiba's Trip remains bolded for this week since the update was missed.

After a partial playthru of Observer to clean up a missed collectible, I'll have Knocked it out. Hopefully tonight.

Declaring my final two games:

12. Hotline Miami (PS5)- Masks, Gratuitous Violence, and an all around difficult plat/unsettling feel.

13. The Devil in Me (PS5)- Is a horror game

Here are my remaining game declarations:

#10 Marvel's Spider-Man 2

- Spiders are often associated with Halloween, as decorations will attest to.

- This is only a spoiler for those who haven't seen the trailers, but Symbiotes are part of the game's narrative - and they are pretty scary/terrifying!

- 50th Fastest Completion: 1D 2H

#11 House of Ashes

- Another Dark Pictures Anthology 'interactive cinematic horror' game

- 50th Fastest Completion: 1D 8H

#12 Killer Frequency

- A game where you play as a radio dispatcher in a small town that sees the return of a serial killer.

- 50th Fastest Completion: 1D 11H

#13 Outer Wilds

- I've kept myself almost completely blind to this game, but I hear that it highlights existential dread really well. I also have mild thalassophobia when playing videogames (weird, I know 😂) and apparently there is a planet with deep water. Plus the game's thumbnail/card is orange text on a black background - perfect Halloween colors!

- 50th Fastest Completion: 4D 7H

Another Friday Update.

Finished the Persistence and Little Hope.

Persistence: A roguelite survivor horror, originally a VR game, it takes time to adapt, but the game is actually good. There is a lot of RNG of course so some trophies can be kinda luck based.

Little Hope: I liked the story and the entire enviroment more than Man of Medan, I like the twist more than the twist of Man of Medan, overall I think is a better game than the first one. My wife also enjoyed playing it twice with me.

Have not been able to do more this week, so there is that, hopefully this weekend before the cut I can finish one game.

Looking at the spreadsheet I think one of my in progress games was missed, but since I still survived I'll just keep it bolded when I make the next update. Still working on pushing Trillion to completion, hopefully will be done this week.

Looks like I overwrote the Soul Hackers with Akiba's. Sorry about that. I have fixed it now.

Declarations captured.

I am adding Marvel's Spider-Man 2. I was kind of hoping to push it out after the event ended. Was staying in a media/forum black out to minimize how much it could be ruined by the internet. Ultimately, installed it right after completing Control and could not put it down.

I had a blast with the game. Played it on normal with no modifiers, 60FPS mode, and it was top notch. The combat, traversal, exploration are tweaked and improved from the earlier games. It is a stunning game. I ran into 3 instances of visual bugs, none significant. For example, I once landed on an extension of scaffolding that was not visible, so Pete looked like he was standing in midair.

I will not go into any spoilers here for anyone who is pending playing this game. Keeping commentary general.

The story was great. I enjoyed it more than the first 2 games. It felt more personal for both Miles and Pete. The MJ sections were a big improvement over the original. The overall pacing was on point, with three distinct acts. The game regularly points to exploration to help release the tension from a heavy story mission.

The combat was really good. In normal, I got pounded every now and then. A couple of bosses crushed me until I got the hang of the timing and proper environmental usage. The game is not afraid to send A LOT of enemies your way all at once. You have to stay sharp in the middle of a mob to stay alive. It felt rewarding to figure out fight sequences and to successfully survive an arena battle or a boss. A lot of those quick completions take advantage of easier difficulty and modifiers to trivialize the combat. I recommend facing the combat challenge, it is not daunting and worth it.

The platinum is easy. Complete the game, complete the moderate amount of side content in the open world and unlock all gadgets, skills, suits, and upgrades, and a few defeat enemies in a certain way. Most of it will come naturally. Most of the side content is pretty good. The stealth areas were tricky and more than once I had to resort to just ass kicking to get the job done.

I patiently await New Game+ and subsequent trophy to jump back in all over again.

Seems like Spider-Man 2 grabbed both of us, despite our plans otherwise! 😂

I completely agree with your write-up. One thing I'll add is that I appreciated how getting the districts to 100% was much less grindy. The game still has Street Crimes, but they are entirely optional now (they just help to unlock fast travel earlier on in the game for districts, or to get resources that you can acquire in other ways as well). I know a lot of people found the science-y side activities in the previous games to be very repetitive, and I thought Insomniac did an excellent job of making them more varied in this game.

I was continually blown away by the game's visuals. Constant ray-tracing on the PS5 without performance issues, lightning-speed fast travel with a slick animation transition, the variety of detailed interior mission environments... And the combat and exploration controls are even better than in the first games.

Honestly, anyone who even mildly enjoyed the first Spider-Man game should play this one at some point, even if they wait for when it goes on sale.

Did really as much as I could since the last update. Got a trophy in Kingdom Hearts for the rarity bonus on that, played Symphony of the Night up to unlocking the second half of the game, and finished three more episodes of Alan Wake to bring that completion up. Also got the trophy for not going below 25% health in the Anderson Farm concert in Alan Wake, which is my rarest earned trophy in that game. Also updated all of the rarities below. Dunno if I'll survive or not, but I'll keep playing even if I don't.

Late Update!

I've been slacking and this might the week I die lol. If it is, it's been a good ride, but I did manage to complete Spiderman 2. I basically mainlined it in a couple of day cause I was really excited to play it. I had a great time and it was definitely a good sequel, but I also ran into way more bugs this time around. Didn't really take too much away from my experience, and I will admit I played as a floating white cube for longer than I care to admit cause it was kinda hilarious to me haha. I also really enjoyed the whole Venom section and the use of the Symbiote suit is really fun, hard to put down like others were mentioning. I also managed to chip away a little on Dysmantle, I got a few more trophies, but I was just playing that in the interim until SP2 came out, but I will end up getting back to that game proper eventually cause I really like the vibe, it's just a long af game.

I didn't play anything towards this event until late Wednesday but still managed a decent week.

My main progress was finishing up the story of Aliens: Colonial Marines, as well as doing some MP boosting and miscellaneous stuff. It's definitely a bit lengthy as a plat because of the challenges. Figuring out that you could simply run through basically any open area because the AI is too stupid to track and chase you was a nice revelation that shaved off a good amount of time. Watching friend and foe AI basically warp around the map really was something, plus on one level there are blind aliens that awkwardly shuffle around and look ridiculous even if they didn't glitch out half the time. The final boss fight - where the game sort of turns into a broken and terrible version of Alien: Isolation as you have to sneak around and pull switches - is a very dumb turn for a game that was otherwise almost entirely action-oriented. It was all bad though! Jealous of everyone who got to play Spider-Man 2 this week while I played this 😂

I also booted Lone Survivor and played for about an hour just to put another 90 points on the board. Really too early to have much in the way of impressions.

Finally, tonight I started up Silent Hill: Downpour. I actually like it so far though it does have notable performance issues related to frame rate dropping and stuttering. Seems it will take a little more than 2 playthroughs but that's not so bad. It's got a good atmosphere and I'm curious to see where it ends up. It reminds me of Evil Within 2, and strangely enough the weird Saw tie-in games on PS3. I think it's the combination of an emphasis on melee combat + the fact that all the characters are grimy and unlikable.

Looking ahead to next week I am not too sure what the plan is. Put points on the board with Riddick almost definitely, but otherwise I have a lot of interesting directions I could go with it. One things for sure: I am not reaching 13 completions, and probably won't even make 10. I probably should've waited before declaring some of this stuff as it was really a tall task I created for myself!

A game that has unexpectedly sucked me in this weekend has a very Halloween-appropriate level. I just *had* to declare my 13th game a few days ago, despite the fact that I probably won't get to 13 games since I'll be out of town for four days shortly. //facepalm 😂

I also finished the Spider-Man 2 platinum this week, but hopefully I can make more progress tonight before the cut-off happens.

I somehow totally missed that the last cull would be a few days longer! That's excellent as I can catch up a bit more then I expected. Though I definitely won't be getting all 13 done. I can probably get 1 or 2 more done in time. A little over 5 days to go so here is my mid cull update:

Lba33e7.png

The Last Door / 0% -> 100% / Rarest earned trophy: 31.01%

This blew me away! The Last Door has been on my radar for a few years. I actually own seasons 1 & 2 on steam but have drifted away from PC gaming so never got around to them. I saw this on sale for $4 CAD and playstation release combines both seasons and all mini-episodes so I figure I would double dip specifically for this event. Developed by The Game Kitchen (who also made Blasphemous) the game is a low res gothic point and click adventure set in late 1800's. It takes heavy inspiration from Lovecraft and Poe. I knew I would probably like it but I absolutely loved it.

The game opens with you controlling a man as he hangs himself with a noose in an attic. If that doesn't se the tone of the game then the beautiful and often haunting sound track will:

On top of the soundtrack the sound effects are also top notch. They really give a sense of space and unease. The graphics despite being low resolution use shape and colour extremely well to depict areas and events while leaving out enough detail that your brain fills in the gaps. Imagination is often worse than anything they could show you in full detail after all. The playstation version has actually redone a bunch of the graphics to make them look better then the original PC release and they did so without compromising the original artistic vision.

Across both seasons you will play as two main characters as you uncover mysteries and more importantly the horrors of the occult. It's a captivating narrative from the first moments to the last. It masterfully weaved fear of the unknown and a growing sense of dread in with moments of beauty and awe to create a truly unsettling experience. Exploring empty and abandoned places and discovering the madness within was so much fun. Even inspecting mundane objects gives well written flavour text that often expands on the creepy atmosphere.

In terms of trophies, it's an easy plat, just a little annoying having to replay chapters to find secrets. Many of which are very easily missed as they require specific steps. Thankfully the game does save them as you find them so you can quit out of a chapter once you have found everything you need.

I could gush about this game for ages. It's seriously so good. Of course if you need some action or challenge in your gaming, or just need something more fast paced, this is not for you. But if you like point and click adventures or slower more cerebral and tense experiences heavy on discovering a narrative you should check it out. This game will live rent free in my head for years to come.

Little Nightmares / 63% -> 100% / Rarest earned trophy: 3.98%

This on the other hand was just okay. Like I did enjoy the creepy setting but I found the overall platforming experience to be pretty mediocre. It's (in my opinion) bland gameplay is why it took me a year to come back to finish this up. I really don't have much to say about it to be honest. Nothing I found outright bad about it. It just kind of exists as a game. The hard core trophy was much easier then I expected. If you are unaware that trophy requires a sub 1 hour speed run with no deaths. You can backup your save to a USB or PS+ any time you want to allow you to reload if you do die, and while the sub 1 hour time is tight I didn't actually have any issues with it. I died once and didn't have to replay any sections to cut down my time.

With only 5 days left I plan to try and speedrun through Ghostbusters Remastered and complete 1 or 2 more games if I can. With that in mind I will declare my final 2 games so that I can tackle them if I get the chance. Both on the shorter side to increase my odds.

Deadlight Directors Cut

50th fastest completion: 1 day 2 hours

Zombie post apocalypse.

Cursed to Golf PS4

50th fastest completion: 4 days 5 hours

2D rougelite golf game themed around ghosts and the undead.

As for my other two declared games, I won't be returning to Savage Halloween. It will simply take me too much time to practice the hard trophies and it's just not worth it for more points. Dead Space Extraction I will try to boot and earn at least a little bit in, but I am not expecting to make much progress there.

Declarations updated.

I am declaring a couple of new games.

Simulacra - a horror FMV visual novel. It takes place exclusively on a phone, with texts, dating app, e-mail, browser to find clues and communicate with characters and get to the end. It is not much of a mystery, as even through there is multiple conversation response options, the only real difference comes at the ending. The platinum is pretty easy. It was on low end of enjoyability of the FMV titles I have played.

Observer: System Redux - a horror adventure game. Set in a cyberpunk future, apartment building, you play as an observer, which is basically a detective. The tasks are to solve cases, which mostly requires scanning and picking things up. You interrogate disembodied voices across doorways and infiltrate minds to see visions/memories. I can tell why Bloober Team was sought for Silent Hill. While the gameplay was slim and simple, the visual and environments were great. Shifts in perspective and distortions, along with solid sound design build a creepy world.

Zombi - 50th fastest is 1 day, 12 hours. - 0->100% - 3.29%

Slain: Back from Hell - 50th fastest is 1 day, 22 hours - 0%->100% - 4.07%

Bound by Flame (PS4) - 50th fastest is 1 day, 23 hours - 0%

The Quarry (PS4) - 50th fastest is 2 days, 8 hours - 0->100% - 11.73%

Zombieland Double Tap: Road Trip - 50th fastest is 11 hours, 12 minutes - 0->100% - 24.97%

Deadlight Director's Cut - 50th fastest is 1 day, 2 hours - 0->100% - 3.82%

Vampyr - 50th fastest is 1 day, 4 hours - 0->100% - 8.46%

Ghostbusters: The Video Game (PS4) - 50th fastest is 1 day, 1 hours - 0->100% - 14.39%

Control (PS4) - 50th fastest is 1 day, 3 hours - 0->100% - 15.31%

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 - 50th fastest is 1 day, 2 hours - 0->100% - 36.58%

Simulacra - 50th fastest is 18 hours, 38 minutes - 0->100% - 30.39%

Observer: System Redux (PS4) - 50th fastest is 1 day, 16 hours - 0 ->100% - 14.64%

Running Score: 2032.08
