Unless there is some crazy awesome in-game bonus I cannot live without or a physical piece of swag like pins or keychains I don't think it's necessary to pre-order at any time.  Firstly the retailers are seldom out of new software on day one.  There are acceptions of course but for the most part, Wal-Mart will have the game you want.  Secondly, they won't sell out digitally ever.  Unless the game was preselling at a 50% off sale price I ain't buying it digitally.  I already feel that digital games should be at least 10 bucks less than the physical equivalent and I am certainly not buying it for the same price and then not getting a physical copy.  But that's just me.

I ususally don't preorder games, but one of the few exceptions is Gotham Knights Digital Deluxe Edition PS5, it comes out when I'll have some free time from work so It's right on time, no better way to use my free time than playing a new DC game day one

Pre-ordered the digital deluxe edition of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak for Nintendo Switch the other day. Really looking forward to it, especially after playing the demo.

 

More than likely going to pre-order God of War: Ragnarök and Pokémon: Scarlet sometime soon. Waiting to see what's going on with Bayonetta 3 before pre-ordering it.

I am definitely one of those people who prefer to wait for the first updates after the game's premiere and play in 2-3 months after the release. Still catching up on PS4 era games. However, I will definitely order the DAY1 Digital Edition of Resident Evil 4 REMAKE. I have to play this on the first day!.

 

PS: I'm also thinking about a new version of The Last of Us. I played the original shortly after its premiere on PS3 and the TLoU Part II was simply amazing. I think that I will decide on a possible TLoU pre-order a few days before the release. I have a tight schedule, but I will find a place for this remake. ;-)

One game I fondly remember pre-ordering was Resident Evil 6 on PS3.

I was hot off the heels of RE5 and was looking for another co-op horror experience.

Unfortunately I was oblivious to the fact it was a Michael Bay movie and not a co-op horror game.

 

Nowadays I don't bother with pre-ordering. I wait for actual gameplay and reviews to drop before I make the jump.

Too many games launch either broken or with issues. so I try to play it safe.

Right now my list is small (for me, anyway). Only Star Ocean 6, and Madison (aware it’s already out digital, but I ordered a physical copy from Target a few months ago.)

 

Once I get paid, though, I need to add Valkyrie Elysium (Digital Deluxe edition, since I want Lenneth as well) and Gotham Knights, plus Ragarok, The Devil In Me and The Chant once it actually allows me to do them.

I'm happy to have God Of War Ragnarok Digital Deluxe PS5 edition preordered, this game is one of the very few that I would've preordered without needing to know anything at all on top of it being a sequel to one of the 10/10 games from last gen
