After nearly 4 weeks of waiting, the final car I needed for Three Legendary Cars in GT7 finally showed up.

Not a big fan of GT7, not enough cars, a lot of them hidden behind RNG. "Career" mode, if you even can call it that just sucks, can't play on an AI difficulty that's appropriate to my skill level, because they expect you to close up 20+ seconds in a few laps. I know they're working on a machine learning AI, but now I'm done with the game, even after taking an extended break and I won't be back to try it out. Not worth my time.

 

Next on my list: Project CARS. Probably one of my then longest completions with 7+ years. Found someone to knock out all the multiplayer stuff with (already unlocked Community Ambassador years ago) and since I'm in a racing game mood anyway, I'll complete that after I'm done with GRID Legends (for the second time).

Well I've played a lot less this month, but managed to get the 150th Plat in GTA V.

 

Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard All 51 Trophies 13th June 2023 • Platinum in 10 years, 2 months

 

 

Grand Theft Auto V All 78 Trophies 14th June 2023 • Completed in 7 years, 5 days

 

Love the series, but mainly for the single player, doing the doomsday heist trophies was an unbelievable grind made worse with the constant glitches and stat resets. Was good going back to the single player however since I originally completed it on PS3.

Great game, a cross between Mario Kart and LittleBigPlanet. Used to love playing it when it came out and creating stuff mainly so was good to eventually finish this off.

I've been working on this all month; Borderlands 3 platinum obtained in 3 years, 3 months.

Like every other entry in the series, I cut out rather early in the game & years later when I finally came back to it, I played straight through. It's weird because it's not like I play 1st person shooters regularly. So there's no honing my skills in another shooter then trying Borderlands again. I play this series all the way through, or not at all.

Usually though it's because I get stuck on a story boss. I'll be using a lower level gun that I prefer for one reason or another but that comes back to bite me during boss fights, & grinding for better equipment is a pain. This time though was because I just couldn't get invested in the story.

My entry into this series was Borderlands 2, & IMO there has never been a better villain than Handsome Jack. The Calypso Twins, with their social media ploy annoyed me more than anything. That & - while this may be an unpopular opinion - I don't particularly care for Lillith. Never did in any of the other games.

Especially when she killed Handsome Jack in Borderlands 2. Yeah, I couldn't pull the trigger & apparently Lilith will just do it for you.

So I had to wait until I was in a Borderlands mood to get back into this. The humor I enjoyed in the others is still there for the most part, but the game maps are just massive. I probably would have been okay with it if the back tracking for collectibles wasn't locked until post game.

I stuck with the mech character in 3, just like 2. Iron Bear is amazing once you get a good ways down a skill tree, having those few seconds of invulnerability while your shield recharges & you obliterate a mass of enemies is the best. Plus, Iron Bear sticks around after you can't control it anymore & does a bit more damage to the enemy while giving you a shield to stay under. It's comparably good to the mech I had in 2.

& I don't know if 3 was designed this way or I just had good luck, but the guns I picked up were great. Lots of elementals for a wide range of enemies.

I still have the DLC to do & I'm looking forward to them (especially Love & Tentacles. Jakobs was hilarious being angry about Hammerlock's sister while poor Hammerlock was trying to be reasonable). It's all loaded onto my console, maybe I can have the 100% done in a couple more months (raid bosses dependant).

For July, I'd like to finish either Stranded Sands (the most likely game since next month will be busy for me), or AI: The Somnium Files (which I have quite a few routes to go through yet).

I have a game for the month that I thought would become unobtainable with Stranded Sails: Explorers of the Cursed Islands at 6 months, 1 week.

 

Stranded Sails is a laid back survival/exploration game with a dash of cooking & farming simulation thrown in. The story revolves around a crew shipwrecked on an island (though there's a few other islands nearby). While the captain is out of commission & the crew scattered across these islands, it's up to the captain's kid (you can pick the gender of the protagonist) to rescue the crew & ultimately, get home. 

 

You basically start from scratch, having to grow food (yes, there's a hunger meter), harvest materials from the island, forge the equipment you need. Though the game didn't feel like it had any large gaps in progression, everything was linear if you chipped away at the main quest line & kept up with material harvesting & farming. 

 

It also had a mostly optional in-depth crafting system for unique cabin decorations. Each crew member had certain styles they preferred & you could craft this furniture for them for in game perks like being able to run faster or trade with them for rare items. 

 

The cooking portion (which was required for the platinum) felt like a hassle the way it was set up. To discover recipes, you had to cook 3-4 items out of a couple dozen in the correct order. Which leads to a multitude of combinations. Needless to say, I looked up the 60 recipes. 

 

The game also had an arena portion to showcase combat, but really was just wave enemies & button mashing. I think it was thrown in last minute because combat was miniscule in the story. 

 

Overall, Stranded Sails shines as a relaxing explorer/farming game. I ended up having to play it nearly completely twice though due to a bug I encountered. 

 

Near the end of the game, all I had left was the arena to mop up a few trophies & gain a few collectibles for the rest when my save somehow became corrupted. As in, it broke the game so bad I couldn't even access my earlier saves from the main menu. The start menu was broken entirely until I wiped my saves off the console & downloaded one from the first few hours of the game I had stored in the cloud. The game isn't all that long though so I played through again while everything was fresh in my mind. I was worried though the collectible trophy wouldn't unlock. Unfortunately, I had to pick up everything again, but it did unlock!

 

I'd recommend the game, just make frequent back ups. 

 

 

Next up, I think I'll start cleaning up AI: The Somnium Files.
