It doesn't completely eradicate their existence, but rather you can turn off notifications if they reply in Status Updates or quote you in a reply in a thread. I see nothing wrong with the ignore feature. It's voluntary communication. If you think someone is an arrogant prick online, use the block and ignore features that are an indelible part of these online communities. You don't know them, so you owe them nothing. Blocking people on forums has zero correlation to ‘cowardice’ in real life interactions, because most of the hateful/ bullying/ nasty content people get blocked over, the person would never actually say in a real life interaction. They say it from the safety of their keyboard, because it makes them feel like the big, brave, grown-up boy they wish they were in real life, because there is no possibility of any real consequences. That means the only recourse is to either block it, or engage with it - and blocking is the easier option, since, as out fathers taught us, there is little dignity in arguing with a child, a drunk or a fool. It's shockingly simple - If a person is inherently an awkward dickhead and they choose to act like one towards others members of this or any community site, then this doesn't involve a difference of opinion at all. It's just them literally being an unlikeable awkward dickhead. As a result - a combo of staff moderation and the block function is perfect for this (and absolutely necessary in any community platform.) I suppose the best advice I could give here is, if you find yourself blocked and inconsolably butt-hurt over something you are sure is just a difference of opinion then it's definitely worth examining whether it was truly a difference of opinion, or in reality just you acting like an awkward dickhead towards someone who did the grown-up thing and removed you from their online existence. So I can't understand why some people suddenly change the topic here. Reading and understanding is different from reading and thinking up something for yourself. Is this now more about you getting along with people? or navigating social situations with folks that have a different opinion to you? You can get along with someone who has a different opinion to you. I'm not sure what to say about the kids part, isn't this now getting way off topic?
