Managed to pull Nilou with my final Welkin Moon since I won't be spending money on the game going forward after how they handled Dehya's kit. Now the saving begins for the Fontaine archon and harbinger (hoping for Arlecchino).

Same.. My Welkin Moon ran out two weeks ago, I didn't renew it.. After a year and half doing WM & BP, no longer giving Hoyoverse any more money. It's a combination of badly designed characters, bad rng i've had for wishes, billets and artifacts, terrible events, lack of quality in the story and the game being straight up boring now.

I'm still enjoying the main story, but I do agree about a decline in quality, particularly from that Aranyaka questline. It was a horrible slog and made me despise those stupid mushroom people. I don't understand how anyone likes that questline and I can only hope Fontaine offers a better world quest. The bar is extremely low, so it shouldn't be too hard.

I may even just quit Genshin once Wuthering Waves arrives since PGR is my favourite gacha and I doubt I'll be able to juggle two open world gachas at once.

I'm saving for Kazuha's banner at this point. He's a staple in both of my main teams but he's at C0. Want to get Freedom Sworn and C2 to really double down on his support. Beyond that, I don't have a lot of water or claymore users and I've seen rumors of a water claymore 5* for Fontaine, so maybe that will be my next target? Haven't really been following the leaks so I don't know if that's intended to be the archon. But I might be over pulling archons for the sake of having archons,

Spoiler

Zhongli and Nahida

just sit on my bench and I kinda regret pulling them.

I still enjoy the game well enough, but I'm going to take a break soon as well. Genshin (and any live service game, really) is just such a big time commitment and there's other stuff I want to play. It's easy to get burned out. Looking back, it looks like my previous big breaks were 1.3-1.6 and 2.5-2.8, so it seems like this is around the time in the region/update cycle where I typically begin to wane.

Ok, completed the new area to 100%, God it helps that I have these days off work, I did quite the long session. Also got the game back to 100% in trophies. Only one side-quest is left, which is time-gated.

A few thoughts: The new area is great aesthetically and I love how doing the main quest actually changes the landscape. OST is great as always. But that's where the pros end.

The map while having significantly less underground parts, STILL has some obnoxious caves with multiple levels. Not as bad as the first areas of Sumeru, but it's still there. Got a little dizzy trying to navigate near the end of the grind.

I don't know if the team behind the archon quest is responsible only for this, but they need to bring them back for the rest of the quests. The main quest/story of the new area was so uninteresting that I started skipping dialogues with X after a while. It also didn't help that it lasted for 3-4 hours.

This is the first time I think that they tried to introduce more than 10 different mechanics/puzzle types in a single update. I get it when you try to bring fresh air in the game, but everything has its limits. I was browsing the tutorial section trying to find that entry for a puzzle I got stuck more times than I'd like to admit.

Overall, a good update but they could do much better. Sumeru has been the largest region so far and after the second released area it grew a little tiresome. Less complex caves and more interesting side-stories in the future please. Now to leave the game on auto-pilot until Fontaine later this year.

Here's the overview for version 3.7:

Quote

The latest update will bring the “King of Invokations Grand Prix” main event, more than 60 brand-new TCG cards, as well as the new playable four-star character Kirara into the game.

As an international TCG tournament across Teyvat, the “King of Invokation Grand Prix” attracts numerous visitors, including card players, tourists, and even a reporter from Fontaine at its venues and celebrations in multiple areas. Working for the famous newspaper The Steambird, Charlotte will not only cover the tournament but also investigate into a strange case on-site, and players can join her and meet characters from various nations in the event storyline. Meanwhile, the Adventurers’ Guild has prepared events that will delight everyone, regardless of whether you’re a TCG player. Card players of all levels can attend the unofficial tourney “Zero Hour Invokation” and duel with selected cards. Visitors who are interested in Genius Invokation can also try out “Evermotion Mechanical Painting” or “Heart of the Dice,” two mini-games that incorporate elements of Genius Invokation TCG. The former requires participants to restore card illustrations from complex and disordered mechanics and gears, and the latter is a combat challenge where random Elemental Dice can be obtained to unleash special skills. For people who just want to enjoy leisurely gameplay, “A Tour of Wonders” is a great choice to join a sightseeing Parkour or enemies-clearing tour and collect commemorative stamps at the checkpoints to exchange for rewards. By finishing the events above, players can win Invokation Coupons to redeem rewards, including the free 4-star bow “Ibis Piercer.”

In addition, a series of trials will be added, and these will put the combat techniques and the imagination of the players to the test. Travelers will have to face three formidable enemies in “Feast of the Departed Warriors,” fight in battles where time stands still in “Fayz Trails: Hypothesis” and share their innovative custom Domains in “Divine Ingenuity: Collector’s Chapter.”

Version 3.7 also features a major update to Genius Invokation TCG with more than 60 new cards, a new player-versus-player mode, and a player-versus-environment mode. The ever-expanding TCG collection will officially welcome Character Cards of all four Archons as well as a larger selection of characters, monsters, weapons, and artifacts. With more flexibility in deck building, two special TCG modes serve as great testing grounds. In the new player-versus-player mode “Arena of Champions,” winners will need to secure a total of 5 wins, while 3 losses will result in you having to start over from the beginning. The other new addition is the player-versus-environment mode “The Forge Realm’s Temper,” where players can select the difficulty level and additional conditions to score extra points.

Kirara will also debut as a four-star Dendro sword user. Kirara works as a responsible courier who offers first-class delivery services. As a nekomata from Inazuma, she is also a master of transformation, and prefers to strike with her claws and youkai powers. With her Elemental Skill, Kirara can use her nekomata talents in two ways: she creates a Dendro shield with a flying kick, or she further transforms into an “Urgent Neko Parcel” to move more quickly and deal Dendro damage when she encounters opponents. When she unleashes her Elemental Burst, Kirara will bash her enemies with a special package that splits into many small Dendro bombs that deal additional Dendro damage. This nekomata can also approach some smaller animals without startling them. For version 3.7 Event Wishes, the first half will welcome the debut of Kirara and reruns of Yoimiya and Yae Miko, and the latter will feature reruns of Kaedehara Kazuha and Alhaitham. Players can also join Yoimiya on a long journey towards the Nation of Wisdom in the second act of her Story Quest “Carassius Auratus Chapter,” or visit the talented architect Kaveh to uncover the complexities of his inner world in his Hangout Event.

A new character besides the Dendro Neko that's not one of those usual NPC model with stuff added(like Blue horns etc.) but a unique one that might be playable down the line. Also nice that's Hu Tao is part of the flag event and Cyno was a given as he's a die-hard fan of Genius Invokation TCG.

Fontaine is going to have underwater exploration but I won't be surprise if there's underwater caves and what not that will make me go "Where's that damn cave entrance!" like Sumeru did with it's underground bs.

I haven't really been doing the Genius Invocation stuff but it looked like there was more to the event than just the card game. Lots of characters I like were in the trailer so it looks good. Glad I'm finally going to have another chance to get Freedom Sworn and Kazuha constellations, too.

Want to ask… if I play mostly on mobile… and once I get everything besides the platinum ( or achievements ).. will those transfer over and auto pop the trophies? I want to play this on the go but still work towards trophies. Same with Honkai I hope.

Yup, if you get the in-game achievement it will autopop the matching playstation trophy when you play the PS4/PS5 version

I've had my eye on this game for a while now and i'm slowly working my way through this mega thread :) In terms of fully catching up and going for the 100% trophy completion - how much of it relies on grouping with other players vs. how much of it can be solo run? Trying to figure out if i need to start planning a group of partners or if i can just head in alone.

It's mostly solo.  All the Archon and Spiral Abyss has to be solo'd.  The only multiplayer trophy is the heart island one.

I just need to avoid every banner and save for Fontaine at this point, but I'm still probably going to end up rolling for Alhaitham since he'd help ease some of the nonsense the abyss is starting to throw at us. Luckily I have a few other games to roll sooner like Kafka in HSR, so I'll be able to put off the urge to just roll for the sake of it.

I made a start on this yesterday but couldn't get very far due to maintenance happening. Bad timing on my part.

I've been watching tonnes of videos and tutorials and I have a pretty good roadmap of how i'm going to build my account. Part of that strategy is to focus on one character to start with as main DPS. But none of the videos or guides i've viewed seem to give any guidance on how to know which characters are main DPS/Sub DPS, Support etc.

Which of my starting characters would be considered viable main DPS in the short term?

I haven't used the wish system yet, or Paimon's shop. But one name that keeps coming up is Xiangling, which i understand can be obtained either by clearing level three of the Abyss or bought directly from Paimon on rotation.Unfortunately, literally no-one that mentions the character in beginner videos explains if they are viable main DPS etc.

I'm a bit lost on the characters to be honest - does anyone have any recommendations for solid main DPS characters I can get relatively early on in the game? I would love to get started on the right foot. Any help would be appreciated :)

Before I give my recommendation, here's a kind note to you. Unlike lots of RPGs out there where character designs and abilities readily lend themselves to DPS, healer, etc., Genshin's elemental interaction system, weapon, and artifact systems throw that out the window to some degree. Simply put, "innate" DPS characters may refer to anyone who gets passive bonuses like attack and critical hit rate and damage. However, weapons may not cover all the passives out there. And until you're well into the game, it's not worth your time to farm for "ideal" artifacts when your characters aren't built up yet. To compensate for this, create teams whose elemental skills and bursts create interactions that bolster your damage. For instance, though Lisa and Amber are about as far as you can get from being mainline DPSes, attacking a target with their skills will produce an AOE explosion effect with significant multiplier damage.

Ok, now that that's out the way. The Traveler and Kaeya will make the most sense as your first close combat melee DPSes to build. Traveler's versatility will become understood as you progress through the game. Meanwhile, Kaeya is a solid swordsman whose elemental skills and bursts support a quick play style. Good luck!

Wish for Al-haitham in the second part of current patch (19 data later) if you want strong all around DPS. Dendro is best element anyway. As for Paimon shop, save up for Xingqui in monthly rotation.

Xiangling is great and you will get her best weapon( the catch) by fishing.

Do not touch current banner, because all the 4* characters are either very niche specialists (Kirara, Yunjin) or useless (Chongyun)

For the long run, be on the lookout for any of the following limited-time 5* WHEN they return:

  • Hu Tao (Amazing Pyro DPS, a little risky to play without a shield but she has insane 1-target damage)
  • Ganyu (Amazing Cryo DPS, low HP and DEF you must compensate with a shielder)
  • Ayaka (Amazing Cryo DPS)
  • Xiao (Amazing Anemo DPS, you need a healer in team like Barbara or Jean)
  • Raiden (Electro DPS / Best Energy Recharge)
  • Zhongli (Best shield in the game, if there's any utility character to pick it's him)
  • Kazuha (best Anemo character to gather enemies and produce Swirl)
  • Nahida (amazing Dendro application)
  • Kokomi (great Hydro application + healer)

These are some of the top tier DPS characters with the last 3 providing amazing utility.

For starters though you want to focus on a 4* DPS. Some great ones are Ninguang and Noelle, both Geo characters that are exceptionally strong. Utility characters to have in mind are Xingqiu, Bennett, Xiangling, Sucrose, YaoYao and Fischl.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write up all these tips @Doctor Completion, @Akrioz, @ZOLANTON, I really appreciate it.

I'm definitely going to aim for building Xiangling as soon as I can get her. Bennett looks like he can be purchased from the shop, but i'll need to save some Starglitter for that, unless I get lucky with a wish at some point. I've also had my eye on Raiden Shogun and Kuki Shinobu as both cropped up in multiple team build lists. Raiden is definitely a way off for me though in terms of bringing into the party.

I actually wished a few times last night and pulled these:

  • Razor
  • Noelle
  • Ningguang

So between them and the traveller, i'm pretty set for some early-mid game. Longer term these would some mixed characters i'd be interested in getting:

  • Raiden Shogun
  • Kuki Shinobu
  • Bennett
  • Sucrose
  • Nahida

I'm not quite at the stage yet where i'm looking at group composition and advanced tactics, but it's nice to have a mini-plan

She's not necessarily one of the earliest characters to build, but it's worth rolling for Yoimiya whose banner is currently up. She's a very strong DPS despite some of the complaints you might see about her. One of the easiest characters to play and she pairs well with Xingqiu.

I'd also highly recommend pulling Yelan next time she reruns. She's an extremely strong sub DPS that I use in every single abyss. By far my most used character.

I would recommend against this for one reason: Since he started playing a couple of days ago, he won't have enough Primogems to build pity on her. Sure he may pull Yoi but chances are he won't and the result will leave him with a few niche 4*, whereas he can save the primos for some better 4* in a banner combined with an even better 5*.

The problem with Yoi, despite being one of the most fun Archer characters to use along with Childe, is that there is a problem with her aim when there are multiple enemies nearby. More than once she wouldn't hit the enemy I wanted. But still she's a great DPS even if there are others better than her.

I accidentally got her C1 yesterday when I pulled for Kirara. I was at 6 pulls from the last 5* and I wanted to spend around 40 pulls before I stopped. She appeared at the first 10-pull and Kirara at the next 10-pull so I'm satisfied.

I will say +1 for Yelan but only after he has built one good team. Xingqiu does her job as a hydro applicator + off-field DMG with an additional effect of damage resistance plus a little healing at the cost of some damage.
