Genshin Impact - General Discussion

Undead Wolf

Recommended Posts

I prefer Electro and as such, a region filled with water is just really fun. In other regions, I have to wait for it to rain to curbstomp foes this hard ^^

In all seriousness, I enjoy the region's new mechanics, especially the diving, a lot. So far, I have been exploring, ignoring the story, as I almost always do in any given open world game (and Genshin update). Having a healing mechanism underwater is a nice quality of life addition. Underwater combat is a bit tedious, but not too bad. And, as an added bonus, nobody has even mentioned that darn card game they tried to push on everybody a few months ago yet.

Though, I have to say, the map is just bizarre. Liyue has a border town with Fontaine and should be accessible from the rainforest region of Sumeru, yet we wander all through the desert and enter from the furthest point from anywhere Sumeru has, to end up with a strange protrusion of the map that connects nowhere? Bit of an odd choice, that.

Surprise don't have Reputation and Statues upgrade trophy.

Yes, future patches (I think up to 4.4) will be adding new parts of Fontaine. So it is highly recommended if you are going for the trophies to grab every Hydroculus now and also start doing the weekly Reputation quests in Fontaine. It will take 2 months to reach level 10, same as the other regions.

EDIT: Also open all the chests for the Hydro sigils, since there will definitely be a trophy to reach max level for the Fountain.

Now personally I reached 100% completion for trophies again. You need to complete the two big side-quests to unlock all waypoints (the Melusines quest and the Narzissenkreuz one) and there are also some collectible based quests (Salsa and Henri quest) that give trophies. For Henri after you bring him the 7 mysterious cores, make sure to pick up the chicken to unlock the trophy. The These are a few of my... trophy is unlocked by entering through a water wall inside the sea and interacting with the gramophone there. It's located inside the trench between the Beryl and the Belleau region towards the left side (Beryl side).

I still have to properly explore a big part of the map, but overall I really like the new update. I love the underwater mechanics and the addition of separate maps for underground caves etc is a huge quality of life update.

Archon quest is basically Ace Attorney in Genshin, I really enjoyed it and the ending is sort of a cliffhanger.

It seems like by exploration percentage what we have now is about a third of the total area of Fontaine. I just finished off the trophies and I'm sitting in the mid 20%. Still lots of chests and a handful of quests I haven't done. They could always retcon that though so I would take that number with a grain of salt.

The underwater mechanics were super fun and some of the more flowy characters like Kokomi look great in the water. The layered maps aren't perfect but they're a huge, huge, huge improvement. I wish we had something like this for the pyramid update in Sumeru, that one still gives me nightmares. I'm surprised how much there is to do in such a geographically small area, frankly.

Trophies were a breeze, especially with the interactive map. Took me I want to say 15 hours? I wasn't tracking my play time super closely. The quests are manageable, the Easter eggs are fun, and there are more than enough chests.

I did notice that the shrine keys seemed higher up in the Fountain (tree equivalent) than I remember them being, so I also still have a shrine to unlock. The 240 chests and quests didn't earn me enough sigils to get to the second one.

I opened up the full map but haven't really started the bulk of my Fontaine exploration yet. Could you list off the key questline names that are required for the trophies in this latch, if possible? I always find I ignore the important quests and then have to do a lot of googling near the end of my run with the new area to figure out what I still need to do.

Yes of course.

A Brush of Seafoam and Crimson: This is the Melucine quest found in the left part of the map (Beryl region). This is quite long but not THAT bad. It has 3 parts and it will unlock some waypoints. This will give you the "Limner, Dreamer and Robotic Dog" trophy.

The Narzissenkreuz Adventure: The second of the big quests in this patch, it is found underwater on the northwestern part of the underwater part (just north of Beryl region). This is the quest with the Hydro mimic creatures, also unlocks waypoints and gives the "Ann in Wonderland" trophy.

Truly Mouthwatering: This is a quest found on the northwest part of the Belleau region, near the shore. Talk to Henri there and after it is done, you will have to find 7 mysterious cores around the map. Once you find them, bring them back to Henry and after the scenes are over, pick up the chicken that was next to Henri.

2308161449-TNLlrJp2.jpeg?height=600&quality=85

Good Stuff but Terrible Taste: This is Salsa's quests. Around the map you will find some canvas with a suitcase, near them you must solve a puzzle and then open the chest that appears by the canvas to start a quest with Salsa. She gives you a small task. You can find her in 5 places all around Fontaine. AFTER you do all 5 of them, you will have to go to the north part of the Court of Fontaine (above the city and near the road) and do a Hydro Elemental monument puzzle by some slimes, which will start the last of her quests and give you the trophy. I didn't find an image for them, you can find 3 quests in the Beryl region, 1 in Belleau and 1 in the Court of Fontaine (aside from the final one)

So, i have uh, decided to come back to this game after 2 years, where I quit decently early on (aka before starting liyue, did get past it now though and fucking about in the interlude before inazuma atm) and as such would be curious if there's any advice since i am now missing so much of the game lol.  So far i've just been getting through with yanfei fischl sucrose and barbara, and past that i ended up rolling diona, chongyun, mika, and some barb dupes so i'm not sure what i should be focusing on now?

Having so much to do in the game can be overwhelming, so my advice on that would be to tackle each region individually. Start with Mondstadt (exploration-wise) and do as many side-quests there, grab all the chests etc. generally bringing the whole region to 100%. Do the reputation quests each week in Mondstadt until you are done, then move to Liyue and do the same, then to Inazuma, Sumeru and Fontaine. The chests alone will give you tons of primogems to pull quite a few 5* characters. Use the interactive map to track your progress, since there is A LOT of things to get.

https://genshin-impact-map.appsample.com/?map=teyvat#

Regardless of how fast you want to complete each region's exploration or how much you want to play every day, the minimum you should do each day are the daily commissions EVERY day and using all 160 Resin. It's recommended to use Resin first on bosses/ley lines to stack up on gold, exp materials and character upgrade materials. Then you can use your Resin to farm artifacts and talent/weapon materials, although it will take a while before you should do these.

Then you need to focus on a team. Yanfei is an amazing 4* DPS, which shines if you give her 4 pieces of the Crimson Witch artifact set along with a Widsith weapon. You should build a team around her for starters. Sucrose is excellent with 4 pieces of the Viridescent Venerer set to decrease enemies' pyro resistance. You may want to swap Barbara with Diona, since Diona can also shield you apart from healing you, and you can trigger melt with Yanfei. Fischl is great as well, but I am not a big fan of the Overload reactions ( Pyro + Electro). In exploration she should be fine in your team.

Later you want to add a second Pyro character for increased attack in your Yanfei team, along with a Hydro character for Vaporize reaction (Pyro + Hydro), which is the best reaction for Yanfei and most Pyro characters in terms of damage. Two ideal characters for these are Bennett (which we will get for free in an event in this patch) and Xingqiu. Your final team should look like: Yanfei - Bennett - Xingqiu - Sucrose. You will be able to clear almost all content in the overworld (with the exception of the Abyss). The spreadsheet below is a huge help when building characters.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gNxZ2xab1J6o1TuNVWMeLOZ7TPOqrsf3SshP5DLvKzI/htmlview?pru=AAABdXYM80o*xMxXJdNbCCZ-v9FLVh6EXg#

At the very end you will need to keep an eye on the banners with the limited 5* characters. When you see a character you want to get, you will have to invest around 20k primogems on average to get the character 100%, 10k primogems if you win the 50/50 or even less if you are exceptionally lucky. This is a long time ahead of you though so for now:

1. Do daily commissions and spend resin every day, do not miss on any current events. Do reputation quests and bounties weekly

2. Explore all regions to 100% (chests, quests, puzzles, XX-oculus etc.). Order: Mondtadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, Fontaine

3. Build your first team

4. Save primogems for strong 5* characters

5. Build a second team

6. Tackle Abyss and endgame content

One thing, though: Don't worry too much about team composition. There's a hardcore player scene out there that is kinda obsessed witzh "the meta" which is, imho, odd in a game without PvP. They will give you long, mostly incomprehensible lists of team compositions and stuff. You don't really need those, except for some of the very late-game content (the Abyss and some of the tighter timed challenges) by which point you will already have figured out the team that works best for you with the characters you managed to get. Everything beyond having two pyro characters is honestly not all that important as long as the team fits how you play.

Honestly I go with a team that is absolutely horrible in most people's eyes: Traveler - Lisa - Amber - Xiangling. Setting enemies ablaze and then hitting them with Electro tends to cut through just about anything. I tried a lot of hyped characters and found them utterly useless for my playstyle, Beidou being a big one (Electro and Claymore is just a combo that does not work for me). Many overworld mechanisms and challenges require a bow, anyway, so having a bow user handy is alway good.

Why am I saying this? To make one point: If you are bad with any commonly recommended team, just try other teams. There will be one you will be good with. And it might be one others consider utter shite - like mine. The game is not hard enough that getting a Ph.D. in Genshin is as necessary as some seem to like to make it sound.

Oh, also, keep weapons and artifacts upgraded. Those are often way more important than the characters themselves.

Pretty much all characters can do anything, other than Abyss where you'll need some heavy investment and maybe a bit of specialisation with your picks. Sucrose absolutely fucks honestly. Probably best to focus on getting everyone up to level 80 initially and then finally pushing to final ascension. The amount of experience needed to get from 80-90 is a massive jump so that can wait a little while. Also don't forget to level up your talents, the extra stats there help a lot.

Other than that, just work your way through the main quests and explore anything that looks interesting along the way. It'll take a long time if you're going for 100% so might as well enjoy it and take at your own pace.

Think I'm finally finished with this section of Fontaine. 100% on all three areas, Fountain level cap (20) hit, all of the oculi, all of the reputation quests completed. Apparently 4.1 is bringing some beefy world quests (though none as beefy as Aranara Quest), so I'm betting those will be the trophies we get with the next update.

Getting close to the point where the PS4 version will need to be split into a separate list, too. That's probably when I'm going to drop the PS4 version and free up that sweet hard drive space.

Is there a clear point when to expect that? That would be the point I'll have a go at the Abyss trophies because a 100% would finally be final. Didn't do that yet because I just don't care for the Abyss much.

125 trophies is a limit for a PS4 trophy list.

Current abyss is pretty easy, dunno how bad the line-up will be on the 1st of september.

Hmm, that's still 43 trophies left. At the current rate of new trophies, this is getting us quite some way still. Sounds like the break will be either when starting or during Snezhnaya, August 2024 at the earliest.

How many trophies are added per update's been pretty sporadic. We got 11 this time, which is the most from any update since launch. It hasn't been consistent it's hard to extrapolate a trend with any degree of certainty, but the earliest I'd expect the PS4 list to wrap up is at the end of Fontaine. Isn't Natlan supposed to be next though, not Snezhnaya?

PS4 has 82 trophies including the first Fontaine set, that's 43 trophies left. That should easily fit both the remainder of Fontaine and all of Natlan even if they increase each region further to 30 trophies. Unless they do something unexpected and add an odd trophy list in between. I dread the prospect of seeing trophies connected to Genius Invocation TCG.

However, we're getting into timeframes where I'm starting to doubt PS4 will still get updates.

Is Fav Bow a good weapon for Yelan? I finally managed to pull her, but I need to work through the rest of Inazuma/Enkanomiya and then the Chasm to unlock her ascension boss.

I really don't want to waste the few wishes I have left in hopes of getting Aqua Simulacra if I can steal the Fav Bow from Diona since it's already level 90 and ready to go.

Rather than Favonius Warbow I'd pick either the 2.7 event weapon Fading Twilght or Sacrificial Bow for Yelan. They both have half the ER of the Favonius Warbow, but Fading Twilight's passive averages out to a 20% damage buff, which is much better than the Warbow's passive, and Sacrificial Bow's passive is essentially a budget version of Yelan's C1, which is a massive damage increase.

Yes, she is quite energy hungry.  Also more particles for the team.

My Yelan.

Looks nice, juicy crit ratio and still boatloads of ER which I'm guessing is pumped up nicely by the Fav Bow.

Are her normal attacks really worth levelling unless you're using her as a on field carry? I was thinking of using her in some sort of Hyperbloom Team with Keqing, Nahida and maybe Fischl with either Keqing or Nahida as the driver depending on how lucky I get with artifacts.

Mind you this is all a pipe dream at the minute as I'm only just getting back into it and working on levelling up characters and weapons as well as catching up on story atm.

@tomhannay I'm mainly opting for Fav since it's what I have on hand. Only have an R1 Sac Bow whereas my Fav is R3 which I figured would be good for particles, plus with the bulk of ER in the weapon I can focus more on HP% and Crit substats for my artifacts eventually. I've missed a lot of the event weapons from sporadically coming in and out of Genshin and that's one I don't have unfortunately. Would love to actually push for C1 Yelan, but I just don't have the wishes at the minute, and I'm not willing to break out the wallet just yet, already did that for Kazuha and regretted it as soon as I pulled the trigger. He's great, just the money you have to spend isn't worth it IMO.

You better hope they don't add Fishing or Gardening achievements, those were horrifying to get in the game. TGC is not that bad, thankfully I have all cards and grinding slowly for the cards' dynamic skins. I pray that PS4 version stops getting trophies soon, I want to free some space and continue solely on PC and PS5 when I buy one.

It is her best 4* weapon if you are in need of a lot of energy recharge. Sacrificial and Stringless are also good alternatives. With Favonius you can focus on more offensive stats on your artifacts (HP, Crit) rather than hoping for all upgrades on Energy Recharge sub-stat.

That just makes rotation longer, imo, especially in Hyperbloom.

Not really, I just prepd a lot a stuff for her, because I was wainting for a rerun at the time and had noone else to build. You basically only level up NA for a special charged shot that she has, It's not really worth it and rarely used.

As for Hyperbloom. Fischl is not good at triggering seeds. Best option is Kuki if you have her.  I just tested Keqing - Yelan - Nahida trio and that seems to work well.

Chamber 3 first half was the hardest by far because it took me forever to deplete the shield of the pyro heralds. In the end the key was switching Kazuha to the Sacrificial sword as double ele skill made it a lot easier to get them and keep them together plus killing those things that they drop down faster.

Still have yet to complete the last 3 chambers. Great job

I've built my Yelan mostly around her skill, 2 piece Tenacity 2 piece Heart of Depth with a Hydro DMG goblet, pretty much kills all mobs with her first skill use, and most beefy enemies with her second. I only really use her burst on bosses, and even then since each skill use triggers a volley of hydro arrows separate from the 1/sec cooldown it still adds to her DPS. I've built her with EoSF before but I find the utility of her skill to be the best part of her kit.

Event weapons and characters are one of the biggest benefits about staying around, it's a shame Star Rail doesn't seem to be doing them. I agree with not wanting to buy primos directly, the game gives out so many it makes buying them seem ever more expensive. Hell I'm welkin only, but that only makes up 23% of my last year's primos, which makes even the welkin feel like bad value compared to being F2P.
