Spring 2024 Backlog Challenge

Okay, I decided to try this event again and have a motivation: I am calling this list the PS4 Pro Housewarming RPG List, as I just replaced my black PS4 with a white PS4 Pro that was only $266 and most of these games are RPGs. (I guess I can leech off $75 to buy the games I had to lose when transferring my system - I forgot that you can transfer your library from PS4 to PS4. Luckily most of the games listed were on PS+'s Extra catalog so I didn't have to pay a dime for them.)

 

Also, I am going to go crazy and try to do 12 games. One has the 40-50% completion (because I really need to get it off the backlog ASAP) but the others were mostly 1% or lower meaning I have to do a lot of work for them.

• Legend of Mana (recently added to PS+)
• Final Fantasy VII (PS+)
• Nexomon (PS5)
• Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom (PS5)
• Dragon Quest XI S

1. Secret of Mana (PS4 because it was added to PS+)
2. Trials of Mana (PS+)
3. Final Fantasy V (paid $15 for it) (1%)
4. Final Fantasy VI (will have to buy it for $15)

6. Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom (PS4)
7. Evoland (will have to buy it) (45%)

EDIT: Okay, I'm not that insane. Let's be reasonable. I won't have enough time to play FFXIV in the off time if I have too many long RPGs. I do want to work some on the Mana series(since Visions is coming out this year) and Final Fantasy series (as Rebirth is big hype in the RPG community now and I do intend to plat the Remake on my other account) but the ones I axed would take too long or are stacks of the same game so I can deal with them later.

Well, as usual, I'm definitely in for this event!  Here are my first 5 games; I'm hoping I'll actually complete a couple of these games before the event starts because they were part of the Fall event.

One question before I revise my list: If I start with five games and complete them all and have time to spare, can I add more or am I done? I know you can add 15 more if you do a full 25 games, but what if you declare less than 25?

You can add up to 10 more. Then if you do all those, you can add up to 15 more.

Changing my list up a bit as I already finished Sniper Elite V2 and I’m not sure wether I want to play Some of the other games I selected. I might have to switch Mafia 2 before the start depending on how much I progress.

Okay, thanks for the heads up.

 

Right now, my list is going to be created based on how fast I get my current projects done: Chicory: A Colorful Tale for PS5, then Disgaea 5(just did a new game and played catch up to my old save) and Evoland as well as a couple titles for my Kaledioscope challenge. Ignore all the lists I had put down and I will get back to you soon with a definitive list in at least 24 hours.

Here is my initial list. I will add more games after completing it, but I want to try to get 15 games done during this event, since it lasts for two months, and try not to cop out with visual novels or anything silly like that. Now that I have to rebuy all the games I had planned to platinum because I didn't transfer my account over and just deleted it on my old PS4, and some games aren't cheap, I have to decide which games I'd go for. Luckily most of this list is on PS+ and the only game I have to buy again is cheap and can be put off until I get my check on Friday(it usually goes on the 3rd, but since March 3 is a Sunday, the bank puts the check out early) and pay off my rent and first week of groceries.

 

So here is my final initial list and this will not be changed, I think I can handle these games:

1. Cat Quest (only game I have to buy and it's $7.99 on the PSN store)
2. Dragon Quest Builders (downloaded from PS+)
3. Final Fantasy VI (the Pixel Remaster, I downloaded this on my PS5 so it's already pre-purchased)
4. Final Fantasy VII (downloaded from PS+, I have a feeling this game will never be removed from the list unless they delist it and remove it from the store, which might happen as FF7 Rebirth is being released on Leap Day and they're already working on FF7 Revival[aka the third game in the trilogy, I made up the name ] so fewer and fewer people will want to play the O.G. and its clunky graphics. 😜)
5. Legend of Mana (just added to the PS+ Extra with Secret of Mana, so I downloaded those ASAP and plan to platinum the entire Mana series; I got the Vita platinum for Adventures of Mana a while back)

Going to drop in some quick edits to my list as we are pretty close to the event starting. I made more progress than I anticipated in the Monster Hunter World/Iceborne entries for the fall/winter challenge. So I'm going to drop World for the Spring challenge, and retain Iceborne as my 'up to 50%' eligible game. It hasn't put me at much of a disadvantage as quite a bit of the progress I make in Master Rank Iceborne content will contribute to some of the grindier aspects of World too.

 

So with that in mind, this will be my final starter list. This should keep me nice and occupied for the whole challenge.

 

Also, FF7 Rebirth unlocks nicely on the first day of the challenge so it's going to be a great one to start off with. Looking forward to this one!

Hey @MidnightDragon just wanted to check. Doesn't the challenge start Friday? I know a day makes little difference but planning on adding my definitive list on the first morning of the challenge starting and don't want to add late (in case changes count as swaps).

I think I'm going to sign up this time around. I have some games in my backlog I'd really like to get cleared out, and this will hopefully give me the motivation I need to make it happen.
