Popular Post Cmndr_Yoshi
Platinum - #166 Rarity - 19.63% A solid visual reimagining of a childhood favorite, Secret of Mana still holds up today as a solid action-RPG. One thing to note, however, from a trophy perspective, is that the end-game item grind is, once again, unnecessarily RNG-heavy. Still, that quibble aside, this was a fun experience to follow-up the stress-fest that was Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania. *shudders*
Popular Post xGabren
#20 Bloodborne This game is a masterpiece and it's definitely in my top 10 favorite games of all time. I'll be honest, I hated this game at first, and after being stuck on Yarham for about 4 hours just dying over and over again I was ready to give up and never touch this game again, but a friend of mine told me to keep going because I would get better with time and I listened to him because he was an expert with this type of game. In the end, I managed to encounter Gascoigne and, believe it or not, I beat him first try. After that I fell in "love" with Bloodborne and couldn't stop playing, the satisfaction of killing a boss that wiped the floor with you countless times is something I never felt before with another game and the felling of keeping getting better and better at the game is amazing. In short, if you ever play Bloodborne, stick with it until the end, you'll not regret it. Edited April 5, 2022 by xGabren

Popular Post MidnightDragon
#79 Virginia This was an interesting game to say the least. I missed some of the collectibles on my first go. Luckily, you need to play the game twice, so it wasn't a big deal. Some of the stuff is real easy to miss, so be careful. The ending was a total mind fuck, though. I have no clue what happened, even after watching it twice. I enjoyed it, though it definitely screwed with my head.
Popular Post MarcusPunisher
Platinum #163 - Alan Wake Remastered (PS5) 17.22% - Rare Officially done with Alan Wake. This was a great reason to back revisiting this gem and do a whole section to unlock the platinum. I've played this game before, beat it on nightmare mode, so this was not difficult to 100%. The only annoyance was finding all the signs and of course I missed where it didn't tell me which one specifically, so I had to do that again on nightmare. I've mentioned before that the changes may be difficult at first if you are familiar with the original, but it is easy to get used to. It will depend on persona preference, like for me, I thought the fog and night effect was better in OG. They actually added a cool easter egg that was not in the OG and one that connects more to the Control, making it even more obvious they take place in the same universe and other characters from the game are part of the organization in Control. I don't have much to say other than I had a blast replaying this. The platinum is fairly easy, just be prepared to collect bunch of collectables, which can admittably feel very tedious at times. The highest difficulty is not that bad once you know how to combat the enemies. It is still a very unique system that I don't see replicated much in other games. Now that Alan Wake Remastered is in the books (no pun intended lol), I really want to try Quantum Break, another Remedy game that as far as I know is not confirmed to be in the same universe and after that I really want another round of Control to A) play it on the best performance through PS5B ) go through the story again to appreciate the little things that connects both gamesI said this before, but Alan Wake 2 cannot come any sooner as indicated in the post credits. I'm really looking forward to what the crazy mind of the lead writer Sam Lake brings in that game.
Popular Post reaperveteran86
Platinum #257 Override 2: Super Mech League Pierced The Stars - 2,70% It is an arena fighter with mechs, that has 7 different leagues, each with ranks that go from F to S. For the platinum you must rank 4 leagues to rank A and one to S. You do this through win matches in the different leagues. And here is where the problems begin. There are minimal different rules for each league (1vs1, 2vs2, survival against jobbers) but they play all the same and you need approximately 70-100 wins per league to get to rank A. And then there are the club battles (which can be done offline, thankfully). You need the maximal influence in one of them for one trophy, which is 1000 points and you get 2 points per win, so 500 fights for this alone. Oh, and you have to do it in 7 days, because then your progress in the club resets back to 0. To sum it up, the game is fun for a round or two but the platinum kills it with the grind.
Popular Post AusLeviathan
#28 Elden Ring Elden Ring Difficulty: 6/10 A great game that drops a little in quality towards the end but remains fun the entire way through. I need to get around to playing the rest of the FromSoft games. #29 Life is Strange: True Colors Haven Maven Difficulty: 1/10 It was good but they really should've done more with the trophy list. There are so many optional and easy to miss things to do that are ignored in favor of trophies for pressing a button in front of something hard to miss. #30 Horizon Forbidden West All Trophies Obtained Difficulty: 5/10 Story wise I thought it was as good as the first game until towards the end when they kind of rushed things, though I imagine they'll have a DLC coming to add some more which might help the experience later. Game play wise it's better than HZD in basically every way, especially with all the quality of life improvements. Hopefully it won't be too long of a wait for the third game. Popular Post rjkclarke
Platinum #349 Peaky Blinders: Mastermind (PS4) Master of Small Heath Get all Trophies “On a gathering storm, comes a tall handsome man, in a dusty black coat with a red right hand” It just feels wholly inappropriate to begin anything relating to Peaky Blinders without Red Right Hand by Nick Cave as an opening accompaniment. I guess that’s one of the first giveaways that I like the television show Peaky Blinders a whole lot. Do you need to like it to play and enjoy Peaky Blinders: Mastermind? I would say, no, you don’t, not at all actually. The game doesn’t assume you have any prior knowledge of the show. It’s actually very accessible in that regard. It doesn’t contain any references that will be lost on anyone it is purely just a new story set in the shows universe before any of the events of the television show actually take place, so no need to worry about spoilers for the show. You take the role of the entire Shelby clan as they seek to keep order in Small Heath dealing with some nefarious corruption along the way. Admittedly the story is rather bare bones here – but, that really isn’t an issue – not when the gameplay is as compelling as it is in Peaky Blinders: Mastermind. I haven’t played Invisible Inc myself yet, but I am planning to in the future, and from what I understand about that game – Peaky Blinders certainly shares some DNA with it. So what is Peaky Blinders: Mastermind? If you have any prior knowledge of the show – then I bet what the game is will absolutely surprise you. Peaky Blinders: Masternind, released in 2020 by developers Futurlab is a essentially a puzzle game taking place over ten discrete levels that leans very heavily into strategy and planned movements, with a really interesting time rewind mechanic. The setting being – based on, well, you guessed it, the television show Peaky Blinders. In a way this approach makes sense for a Peaky Blinders game – meticulous planning is part and parcel of Tommy Shelby as a character. What I must say though, is that I absolutely commend the effort that went into designing this game. It would have been perfectly valid for them to do a game in the style of the EA Godfather games, or the Mafia game series using the Peaky Blinders license. Opting instead to take a risk, and try and provide a unique puzzle experience, something that I think they absolutely achieved. On a visual level Peaky Blinders: Mastermind is not exactly reinventing the wheel – the small discrete scenes that serve as the games cutscenes, are very well realised though, if a little flat due to just being still images. These are essentially stylised renders of the characters – usually in conversation. It looks like all of the key actors from the show have lent their likeness, so everyone looks the way they should, aside from one or two of the scenes where the characters look a little – well, off shall we say. Peaky Blinders: Mastermind is shown from a top down perspective, so there’s not really too much intricate detail on the in-game character models. Small Heath as a location is very well realised in the game – it’s one of those small areas where having not seen the show won’t leave you out in the cold, but it will let you appreciate minor aspects like this, perhaps a little better. It really gets the grimy dank aesthetic of the early part of the show down to a tee. Whilst I’m on that subject – the character animations are quite a nice touch. They aren’t all perfect, but there are small subtle little details that I thought were particularly well done. For example – in the show, Tommy has a very specific stride, slow and purposeful – in fact, I’m sure about five percent of the show is just Tommy walking moodily. Although it doesn’t quite capture that walk, it is a good approximation of it. In the same vein Arthur has a lumbering, almost hulking bow legged gait in the show – something that they did capture very well in the video game. It’s not a particularly important feature, but it’s nice to see the effort nonetheless. Although the audio is fairly limited in Peaky Blinders: Mastermind, the only problem I had, was that I wanted more of it. I suppose, when you think about it, that isn’t a problem at all. What there is of it is actually very good. It is very light on sound effects and audio stings, and has absolutely no voice acting – so, I did my own haha. I don’t know why I went to such effort when I was playing this by myself, but I had a fair bit of fun, even if doing Arhur’s voice is a bit of a strain on the old vocal chords. Still, when so much effort went into perfecting the gameplay, I think that’s fine that they had to cut corners in a few areas like audio, and the astronomical cost it would have been to get the actors in. Where it really shines is a genuinely good – albeit, perhaps too short original soundtrack, provided by Feverist. There’s a good range of music in its ten or so tracks. Much like the television series, it uses contemporary music alongside a historical setting, it’s one of those areas that could be a little jarring if you hadn’t seen the show and weren’t aware that mixture is commonplace, but it worked very well I thought. Let’s take a look at the gameplay shall we. This is undoubtedly the absolute best area of Peaky Blinders: Mastermind. Rewinding time in video games is not a unique concept – but the way this game does it, makes an absolutely worthy attempt at standing out as its very own unique thing. You can pause and rewind time, whenever you like. If you think you could do something better, then rewind and do it again. The animations are a little rigid, but I think there’s a deliberate intent to it, where that tightness, forces you to walk the most optimally quick paths. I’ll be honest; I lost count of the amount of times I had to rewind time because my character bumped into a piece of furniture or scenery, and in a game like this, even shaving off milliseconds wherever you can is helpful. In Peaky Blinders: Mastermind all – and I do mean all of your characters actions play out along a timeline – in early levels; this could just be one character, for example. In the later levels, and the last level particularly, that includes every single available character. As you might expect each individual character has their own set of abilities that they and they alone can use. There is some overlap between character abilities, but for the most part each character has their own unique skill set, which means you can’t just brute force your way through a level playing as one character alone and hoping for the best. As a result the game becomes a delicate balancing act of trying to maintain speed and also efficiency when puzzle solving, you need to be quick and you need to be clean too. If you’ve ever used any video editing software like Avid, or Final Cut Pro for example, then the timeline itself will actually look very familiar to you. It looks very much like projects do in the edit, where you have random splices of multiple layers of sound, images and effects all contributing to a larger whole. I’ll leave an example here, of one of the later ones.... I absolutely love the fact that every small action however long or short, by every character, gets represented on the timeline. It might look a little chaotic, but seeing the entirety of your actions play out and overlap with others can be incredibly satisfying, especially as you get further into the game, and the puzzles and tasks you’re allocated become increasingly more complex, requiring more and more thought each time. A little side not, but seeing all of the small elements come together to create a whole is also one of the areas of editing/sound design that I personally love the most, there’s something very satisfying about that aspect. This is where the complexity comes into it – and something that quite honestly could have gone disastrously wrong, had it been implemented badly, thankfully, however, that wasn’t the case. If you’re going for trophies (which as we’re on this site, let’s assume you are) then you’ll be aiming for the gold times in each level. At first these look very deceptive. When you see times like two minutes, forty-five seconds or a flat three or four minutes, you’d be forgiven for thinking the game, which only includes ten levels, would be fairly short. To put this in perspective, you’re given a seven minute gold time for the final level – and it took me roughly an hour – give or take, to set every single action up properly to get through it within that time limit. In a sense the satisfaction you get from figuring out the puzzles in this game is almost the video game equivalent of The A-Team line “I love it when a plan comes together.” You’d think a gameplay loop of repeating steps would become a little tiresome – but for me it never did. For what it’s worth I tend to zone out when it comes to repetitious things, so my tolerance for it is actually quite low. Yet, the repeating nature of this game I always found I was pretty content to go back and change even the slightest thing, it really was that enjoyable. It’d be wrong of me not to mention how well put together some of the later puzzles are – sometimes in puzzle centric games, some of the most satisfying parts can be those “EUREKA” moments that you get where you’ve figured out the puzzle by yourself. I’m not ashamed to admit (I have already admitted to doing impressions of the characters as I read the dialogue after all,) that I audibly said “Oh that’s so clever,” during some of the latter puzzles. There was something so satisfying about getting a character to a crank in time, then timing holding down the crank long enough to keep a gate open both long enough to open a gate, and still keep pace with other characters, elsewhere in the level. If this game required perfect runs of every level this could have been such a mentally taxing game, yet still one I think I’d have enjoyed just as much, if not more. Would I recommend this one? Yes, absolutely, I think this genuinely turned out to be one of the most entertaining and creative puzzle games I’ve played in some time. It’s a very unique experience, and the fact that it only has less than one thousand owners currently, I urge more people to get and play this. I really enjoyed the ten or so hours I had with the game.
MidnightDragon
#80 UglyDolls: An Imperfect Adventure This is a simple game where you have to save the UglyDolls from the evil robots, who want everything perfect. There isn't much to it. There's lots of collecting and grinding. Most of the trophies are very easy to get. The only annoying one was making five robots dance at the same time. That may take a few tries. I had to grind at the end of my first playthrough since I was careless about the stuff I made and used. It would be an enjoyable game for kids, too. Overall, I enjoyed it.
