Cassylvania's Miserable Little Pile of Platinums

If only the platinum image of Phil's Extra Spectacular Adventure would be his face with his tiny arms up in the air. Admit it, you wouldn't be able to resist :P

Don't put her off her game. It's bad enough she has to see his face every time she opens her trophy cabinet on her PS4. Having that face be on the platinum would make her reject the game and she's so close to the platinum. ;)

In the meantime, I just platinumed my 69(he he, sorry, my inner child is always a 2nd-grader :P) and I broke down and bought Donut County. It's a really nice game and sort of funny when it's dealing with raccoons sucking up stuff with holes. Reminds me of Katamari Damacy but without a mean father of a king demanding you increase the size of your ball to ten meters in one minute or some crap like that. The boss fight at the end was nice too though I almost died the first time because of RNG. If you get the Game Over trophy, wait a bit and watch the sequence afterwards, it's hilarious. xD

If I was anywhere near plat #666, I would consider that.

I forget what I got for 69. I'm sure it was something immature too.

*checks*

Oh. Paladins. Yeah, the game is basically as juvenile as it gets. Especially when people turn their mics on.

ANYWAY, good game tonight. I usually wait until a game is over by giving my opinion of it (except Phil, which clearly sucked from the very first puzzle), but Case is playing well. Now, I'm going to post this reply. Case will not do anything during the rest of the game to change my mind. They are 10 points ahead with 12:47 left to go. I feel confident in pressing the submit button right...now.

EDIT: Dammit.

Even more depressing when people playing are in their 30s and over and they act like they never matured past high school.

I picture some of these people as a DarkSydePhil of YouTube.

@Briste I played Lego Hobbit on an old account and I know what you mean about the story mode being dull, it's even more annoying when you consider it only covers half of the story.  The DLC which covered the second half was cancelled.

Yeah...I didn't realize it didn't include the whole story and that was pretty disappointing. In all honesty, I really didn't like The Hobbit movies much to begin with...I was a huge Tolkien fan as a kid and while I loved The Lord of the Rings series...The Hobbit was the book that had me fall in love with that genre. I really didn't like how they added and changed so much in the movies. I felt like they did it only so they could make a trilogy and maximize the profits off the popularity of the LOTR trilogy. I still consider the 1970's cartoon version to be the masterpiece movie on the book. I think the game did well to follow the movie story line...but it wasn't a story I particularly enjoyed so Story Mode was more of a chore. Free Play though has been much more enjoyable. It feels more like an open world RPG now than before and I don't regret it being immortalized on my trophy wall :)

I also wanted to give you kudo's btw on the Halloween event. I don't think you really signed up for all the work that you've had to put in for it and you have truly made the event a fun one. I think you deserve a lot of credit for your dedication to the event and for that thank you! :)

Congrats on 3k! The Hobbit does have some of the best trophy names/images on the PS4. I've been planning on making one of those a milestone for a while. I guess my next one is 6k (I think every 1000 trophies is now a milestone, until 10k?) or plat #150. It'd be pretty cool to hit both of them this year...

I had a little trouble deciding which one I wanted. I ended up going with the dragon but there were plenty I would have been happy with. I felt like that was an easy trophy to guarantee as well. It looks like 75 is my next milestone and it's looking like one of the KH games may be in line for that one...I'll have to think about it more when I get closer. I am three away from the not real milestone, but I guess our giggle milestone of the 69th Platinum. Was Gronkowski on the cover of a Madden Game? I feel like that would be an appropriate game for that spot. Other games in my backlog that I could put there might be The Wolf Among Us, Life is Strange, GOW III Remastered or Catherine...any recommendations?

Don't remind me. At least I won't have to worry about driving in the snow too much this year. I live close enough that I can just walk or ride my bike to work...

Cause nothing is better than biking to work in the snow amirite? lol :)

I have to say...it was a pretty good weekend of football and last night was a good capper. I was bummed for your boy Keenum since he did have a chance there at the end and just missed the throw...but when i don't have a dog in the fight...I just want a good game and outside of the announcing, I got exactly what I wanted.

Thank you, I appreciate that.  It's certainly been an experience for me, but everyone who has joined up and been participating has made it all worthwhile.  There have definitely been frustrations, but I've been trying not to let them seep over into the event and just be positive and proactive.

I forgot about it in the event thread, but I definitely second that. Must be pretty frustrating not being able to update everything... That's the good thing about people not being way to anal about events like that, nobody will be too mad about it when it doesn't work instantly I think. Everyone is so focused on his own list, nobody will insist on his / her progress being displayed in the main post immediately :P Everything seems to be friendly and relaxed still, so you won't have to worry about that ever changing I guess.

I would gladly help if it were possible, but I guess it isn't. I ran a (european...) football betting game for a couple of years with 20+ dudes, so crunching numbers is kind of my thing :P I thought about solutions how things might be fixed if RL hits the OP (as it probably did? hard to say), but I don't know if it is possible. The one event with the shared account was a handy idea, but that takes quite a bit of trust.

At the moment I'm just glad that the spreadsheet exists, so at least everyone is being tracked in some way.  I know real life can run away with me sometimes, with health issues and life in general, so I do like to give the benefit of the doubt.  I think one of the factors at play here is not fulling knowing the work involved in running an event, also the longer spent away from it, the more daunting updates can be.  I don't want to seem like I'm complaining though, I'm definitely enjoying my part in the event and the interactions I've been having - everyone has been awesome in the thread and I'm glad you all signed up ^_^

I appreciate the offer of assistance too, everything is pretty much in hand at the moment except for the updates on the first post - I've been pondering what to do about that, whether to copy and paste everyone over onto my post but with the spreadsheet, it seems like that might be redundant.  It's been a good learning experience for me, and there are things I'd definitely do differently in the future if I run another event like this.  I like the shared account idea though and it works really well for the Monthly Madness event

@Cassylvania Congrats :D  I can't help wonder how fast you deleted it from your hard drive.  Here is a picture for you of Phil celebrating your success :D

Never have I erased a game faster. I even made sure to hide it from my purchased games list. Now, there's nothing to ever remind me of Phil...except the title of this thread. Guess we better change that soon.

Anyway, knocked out some Cat Q trophies tonight. Not sure why I have to grind to level 99. That seems like a huge waste of time. I wish my sister was still at that age where I could hand her the controller and tell her to run back and forth in the grass and spam the A button to level up my Charmander. Now, she's smart enough to expect compensation for such things. Is this really the kind of world we want to leave for our children?

Not really sure which (if any) of these ruined-my-100% games I'm going to add to the Halloween event. Some of them could theoretically fit in one or two of the remaining categories, but that seems like cheating. Of course, is it any more cheating than playing through some of the shortest platinums/100%'s out there? At this point, looking through my library, I might not platinum another game until 2019! Ridic.

Well, there's still Hellblade. We know I'm going to do that for the event. I COULD try to ruin my Halloween with another Resident Evil game. I hear RE4 is fun. I could also cave and buy VC4. Not sure what that has to do with Halloween, but who cares? This is a party, and I'm taking all the sweets!

I bet all of you want to see me draw Phil as a murderous psychopath.

I was thinking more along the lines of a Phil Halloween Costume...in fact I could make a "Team Phil" in the Halloween Event thread, I'm sure @Jensand @DragonQuest238would be in for that too.

At the very least, you should make a badge for anybody crazy enough to platinum Phil's shitty adventure. I'd rather play through The Witness blindfolded with Spy Chameleon tap dancing on my head than do one more of those stupid puzzles.

It horrifies me to announce that I'm the 23rd person in the world to platinum the North American version of this game. It horrifies me even more to announce that 69 people own this game. That means 46 people are still out there, working their way through this nightmare...if they haven't given up hope already... Let us bow our heads and say a prayer for these poor unfortunate souls.

And while you're doing that, let me make one last announcement.

Platinum #135 - Cat Quest

1L10438f.png

I'll admit -- I didn't expect much with this one. I really just needed a C game for FELICIA. And I had Celeste for that, so I'm not sure what I was even doing... But whatevs. I had fun. It's a cute little RPG (?), with simple and fun combat. I really like the idea of running around on an actual map. At first, it seemed kinda lazy -- like, why design environments, when you can just use your imagination? -- but it's very stylish and well-done. Yes, I know that's almost verbatim to the review I gave last week, but that says something about the overall quality of a game when you finish with nearly the same opinion as when you started.

Would I recommend it? Ehh... I don't think so. It's cute, but it's not remarkable. Celeste is remarkable. Yomawari is remarkable. This is...very basic. I don't think the combat or the cat puns ever get old, but they're not very good to begin with. The story is there, but it's not engaging, and the dungeons are all very similar. The best thing it has going for it, honestly, is the length, because it never overstays its welcome. If that's a positive to you, then maybe check this game out if you find it in the bargain bin at your local flea market or heavily discounted on the PS store.

Ha, flea market. I made a funny.

Guess I won't be shaving my mustache for the next 3 months. What would be the flavor text for this team?

- a game which plays with the concept of sleep or paralysis in some form

- a game with just ~20 seconds of music, looped forever

- a game where you have to kill people and hide the clues, aka Hitman

- any game from Epic Games, because Phil is so damn epic

- a game which is about 95% white and makes you eyes tear up after a while

I fully support an entire community event based around Phil. Fill-a-Pix: PEA could be the bonus game. And, yes, I think we would all have to grow mustaches as part of the event.

RE4 has a pretty legendary status, but the escort quest section always sounded way too horrible for me. Everyone said it's not THAT bad, but ehh. But I think I could safely recommend Hellblade for you. I liked it and you might like it as well :P Are you shooting for a complete list once more or are you just adding stuff along the way? I feel like I knew that at some point, but I'm dumb...

I kinda like just adding stuff along the way. I purposely kept the more Halloween-y categories (fear of death, undead, Halloween) open, in anticipation of the Shocktober sale. I can also now make use of my 100% only games, which I was trying to avoid, because I only wanted to use platinums for the Spelling Bee event.

For now, let's see what the free PS+ games are this month...

Oh. My. God.

face-with-open-mouth-vomiting_1f92e.png

I'm not even going to add Friday the 13th to my library. Haven't heard of the others. But I liked the original Rocketbirds... Very cool game.

Hm. That wasn't very useful on my quest for my next game. But hey, I got us a new thread title -- and I even polished up the OP! Check out the 'gories now. Looking them over, I'm still not happy with the placement of some of the games... I think I may have to combine Point-and-Click, Hidden Object, and Visual Novel. Because, really, how do you separate some of those? Root Letter is clearly a VN, but what about Life is Strange? You're clicking on objects, moving a character around in third-person, and solving simple puzzles and dialogue trees. Same with Grim Fandango, Last Day of June, and all of the Telltale games. And if we're getting to the point where only one game fits into a category, maybe that category doesn't need to exist...

Considering how f'king hard The Challenge was(it ruined that game for me forever), and how Spy Chameleon was too lazy to have its own amazing platinum trophy icon(using the stock trophy icon - I can forgive The Walking Dead Season 1 for using the generic icon because it was a Telltale game in the 90s, but there was no excuse for this game because the other trophy icons were amazing art), I can attest to that. In fact, let me amend your phrase...

I'd rather play through the Challenge in the Witness with Spy Chameleon licking my left eye, that bear from Ginger Beyond Crystal pouring honey on my head and allowing his bees to crawl through my hair, and POWGI licking my ASS before I do any more of those f'king puzzles!

(Sadly, I should have waited to type this until AFTER I platinumed Fill-A-Pix, as I still have over 35 puzzles to do.)

Well I guess that solves it...Catherine it will be. I guess that will have to be my next game then since Lego the Hobbit will be #67 and Yomawari: Night Alone will be #68. Rocketbirds is the only game that looked remotely interesting to me. I've heard Friday the 13th isn't bad, but it looks like you need several thousand online matches for the platinum...no thank you. I think I'd rather do a Philuzzle....

ps...Peggle 2 is $2.99 right now...worth it?

Oh. My. God.

Yeah, I know that the PS freebies are going to be filler trash that used to be good back in the day but they are still not hitting a great ring for me. I am never doing a co-op game, and the rest of the stuff is complete BS. It's like they don't care what Vita or PS3 shovelware they put up for free because they know its days are numbered and all we'll get are two crappy PS4 games every month after March. :(

By the way, Cassy, I am doing a bit of a project right now while I struggle through Russia Phil's Express("In Soviet Russia, you do not solve puzzles, puzzles solve YOU!" xD) and want to ask you this question. Can you answer this honesty?

If you were given the chance to be an RPG character, what class would you be? Warrior, mage, priest or thief? I'll tell you why I asked that when I am done. ;)

That's a good price for it. It's a LITTLE tedious, but the gameplay is fun, and the trophy list is surprisingly fair. If you get it, make sure it comes with the DLC (Jimmy and Windy's levels).

Hm, that's a tough one. I've always pictured myself as a bard. They're rarely playable (or useful) in RPGs, but they're friendly, charismatic, and offer support to those around them -- just like me. Plus, I like the idea of killing people with music.

But of the ones you named? I guess thief, since it's the closest thing to a bard. Maybe I'm a part-time street musician who moonlights as a pickpocket (but only takes money from those who deserve it).

Actually, I was going to make you a part of my Miitopia project with Dark Lord Phil, but I realized that I had bought Miitopia on the 2DS I had traded in to Gamestop, so that's a dead project because I'm not spending my money to repurchase Miitopia($39.99) since I don't want to have to live off of freezer pizza again come Halloween. :( Sorry to get your hopes up, I would have totally made you a pop star, as that's one of the classes and that is as close to a bard as you can get. Shame, I had even made a Mii of Phil for that game.

On the bright side, I'm almost finished in earning the Russia explorer trophy(just have one more puzzle) and I have downloaded a PC program called Mega Man Maker that lets you create fan Mega Man levels. I'm going to use it to create draft levels for my future plans to make a best-selling super-cheap indie Mega Man clone called Giga Gal where you play as a computer hacking program bot that goes through platforming areas to hack into evil computer networks and save the city from a selfish hacker girl who is destroying the Internet for her own selfish reasons by sending out Robot Master hackbots to corrupt networks in the city like the police network. It'll have a mode that lets you randomize the game to cater to speedrunners. :D

Ah, that's too bad. But it's OK. Maybe we can do that with one of the Disgaea games at some point. If I ever get around to playing Disgaea 1, maybe I'll name a character after each of you (and Phil).

Continued my one-game-a-night streak by knocking off P-Arch. The DLC trophies really aren't that bad if you set up your prison the right way. Unfortunately, Escape Mode is extremely glitchy. At one point, I sabotaged the power supply to create a blackout, and the workers never fixed it. I also went on a killing spree, wiping out the entire prison population (I call this "Skyrim Mode"), and the game didn't seem to know what to do. The guards eventually respawn -- as does (or do? seriously, I'm too tired to worry about my grammar, and it bothers me that I've spent any amount of time trying to Google the right answer) the rest of the staff, I assume -- but the new prisoners were left standing in the reception area forever, and then were thrown in their cells with their handcuffs still on. Maybe it's because I had such a low guard population to begin with, but the game seemed a-broken. (It's like a-brain, but better.)

I can probably knock off Crash tomorrow, but Minecraft is a bigger problem, as I sold my copy a long time ago. You would think that's one game I'd like to keep on my shelf, but I really don't care for the console version. Same with most building sims, really...

That reminds me. Anybody play Cities: Skylines? I'll probably wait for the Complete Edition before considering buying it, but it looks fun.

Also, while we're on the subject of game recommendations: how about a good racing game? I'd like something in the 20-30 hour to platinum, no (online) multiplayer, 5-6/10 difficulty range. You know, something I could sink my teeth into for a good chunk of time, but not so involved that I have to give up eating.

Don't worry. I'll be doing that for you guys. I'm going to be picking up Disgaea 1 Complete myself come Tuesday(have to get another filling for my teeth at 1 PM after gym next week :() and I'll definitely name a thief character after you, Cassy. Just don't make a character named Phil. I know that serving Laharl is being part of the evil Netherworld, but Phil is someone who Laharl would probably destroy with his Overlord's Wrath. xD

Speaking of the unspeakable, I just got Russia Sightseer as my first trophy in two days. Yeah, I was so burned out yesterday that I didn't feel like earning trophies, so I just bummed out and advanced some more on my Dragon Quest journey by getting through 2/3 of Dragon Quest V for the DS. (Cheating, of course, as it would have taken me two weeks otherwise. Emulation is fun, but don't tell anybody I said that or I'll get in trouble from the hardcore purists.)

On trophy hunting, I am trying to go through the third town in Dark Cloud. It shouldn't take too long since I have managed to upgrade all of my characters' wepaons to max level with a glitch and just got Ruby the genie, who is going to break this game wide open once her weapon is at max level. ^_^

Also found a site called Mega Man Maker, which lets you create custom 8-bit Mega Man levels. You have to create a profile to share your levels but other than that, it's a fun computer app. I'm definitely going to fiddle around with it. :)

I know this question was directed at Cassy, but I like it so want to answer too :) I've played a lot of RPG's and I always choose the thief if available. This stems all the way back to Locke in Final Fantasy VI (III how I played it) being my favorite character of all time. Add in that there is usually a stealth aspect to it, which is my favorite way to approach games, and I'm hooked. In FFXI my first main job class was also THF and that was always my preferred job class to play. What about you?

I've done some preliminary research on the game and it does seem to be a little luck based as far as the randomized puzzles...so who knows, maybe I'll get lucky. I've never played an 'anime' style game before so I'm looking forward to that as well.

I generally don't shave on the weekends or when I'm off from work for an extended time. My problem with the mustache/beard is that it is patchy or doesn't connect. If I tried to grow a goatee, the mustache won't connect to the chin section...also my facial hair tends to grow in grey and makes me look older...it is a little slimming...but looks too terrible to keep when I go out in public lol

It is... but part of it was me being just really way to stupid to solve the puzzles on normal. That was the first game in ages where I thought about putting it on easy to just get through the story. I never felt like getting better, that puzzle system was always way too weird for me...

But the rest is pretty cool and it's pretty much like an anime movie (is that even a real phrase that exists?) so my watching partner was absolutely on board. So overall playing it is worth it, but completing it... ask someone who got gud at this game, so definitely not me. I heard horror stories about the post game bonus stages tho, one was almost literally unbeatable and you had to do it in coop so that the screen would slow down, or something like that. So you should probably wait on some info about that.

I'm counting this game in the same kind of breath as a SMB. Every once in a while I like to throw a game on my profile to challenge my 100% completion. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get them all done provided nothing becomes unobtainable...it's just a matter of patience. I figure I'll go back to SMB after Yomawari for a bit since I don't want to accidentally pop a platinum early. I also feel like SMB would be an appropriate 69th platinum should I be able to do that first.

I have nothing for you. The last racing game I played was Mario Kart for the Wii and the last game I played that had any kind of racing component was the challenges in Arkham Knight or maybe the GTA games. Never been a huge fan of that genre...outside of the Mario Karts and F-Zero on the SNES, the only racing game I ever really liked was Demolition Derby on the original PS. That motocross racing game was free a few months back...did you happen to pick that up?
