Big thanks ? yes I kinda complained about the grind but, honestly, both of us did way more egregious grinds on our profiles.

If you've hanged around this beautiful thread, you know my absolute love and appreciation for Atlus' Magnum Opus that is Catherine. An utterly delightful game where you push blocks, pull blocks, save sheeps, try to decide between a control freak hottie and a kinky imma-hump-you-at-every-corner hottie(bless Atlus), try not to accidentally pull a Sayori (DDLC people just know) and push MORE blocks. Amazing game, I know, peak videogame stuff. 

 

Well since the devs clearly knew that we will all blow our underwear in pure amazement when we see the marvelous gameplay of block pushing, they thought "Hey, why not make a minigame that is basically the same game except it has a shitty 16bit motif and covers the hairiest princess of them all, Rapunzel?AND MAKE IT 64 LEVELS" FUCKING AMAZING THINKING KATSURA-SAN, YOU HAVE WON + 5000 JAPANESE HONOR POINTS!! I loved your idea so much that I made the initial post here, absolutely applauding the idea behind this minigame.

 

Then another idea appeared..

What if we do an EXTRA HIDDEN 64 LEVELS?

LORD ATLUS PRODUCER, JUST HOW MANY PAIRS OF CLEAN UNDERWEAR DO YOU THINK I HAVE?

 

Anyway...I finally did the extra 64 levels. Jokes aside, this has been one of the worst grinds of my life, easily pairing off the "From C to Shiny C " grind in street fighter 4. Since I utterly loathe this game, having to do all the stupid ass puzzles while hearing the "ding-a-ling" song, WITH YOUTUBE help almost short fried my brain. Actually scratch that, I am definitely sure that my brain is fried, no way did I escape unscathed from this experience. 

The levels aren't even that much different from the main 64...it's just more ball busting Rapunzel. Why did I start this stupid ass game again, I have no idea. Clearly I was younger and more stupid back then.

 

And now, inspiring one from Lord SsethTzeentach: "A warm thanks to the members of the Ukemi Guild @Yuber6969, @AihaLoveleaf and @Honor_Hand for supporting and funding this achievement with their encouragement. You are truly wonderful". Without you 3 I couldn't have dreamed of clearing up this abhorrent trophy.

Especially @Yuber6969, you were so motivational with the "just do it dude" that I will closely monitor your descend into madness when you attempt Art of Fighting Anthology  Have a good one!

 

P.S. Now all I need done is getting gold on all Hard levels and clean up Babel mode. Easy peasy I'd say. How hard can it be, after Rapunzel?

Thanks man  you will unfortunately have to wait for a long while, because while I managed to do stage 1 on hard (grabbed a shiny trophy even), on stage 2 I randomly lost the combo because Vincent decided to rest against the cube instead of climbing it -> silver trophy instead of gold.

Love to see Rapunzel done after (literal) months of effort. It was worth the hilarious write-up, at least. ?

 

The extra 64 levels were too much even for me. Rapunzel's sweet spot was in the 24-32 level range. After that, it wears out its welcome of being a cute little distraction and just becomes a boring slog the rest of the way through.

 

I'm glad you can finally get to some of the real shit that Catherine has to offer. Hard Mode Stage 9, and the last three levels of Babel are what made Catherine a memorable trophy experience for me, and not in a good way either. That can wait until later, however. For now, a toast for today's good progress. ?

Well done dude! And your thoughts on Rapunzel are spot on. What asshole decided to make a minigame that is a retro version of the main game, and make you do it twice? I hated that grind.

I did end up toasting a full glass of wine after getting owned by Stage 2 Hard so...yeah here's to another year of Catherine misery!?

Assassin's Creed Valhalla - Mastery Challenge The Reckoning (Part 2)

 

Trophy name - Full Master - get all gold medals in challenges

 

All hail Ubisoft for being the no.1 lead in terms of broken DLC!!!

I finally decided to buy the Dawn of Ragnarok DLC, however before starting that I wanted to clear up the second set of Mastery Trials that the Ubi overlords released into the wild. The first set of trials were a broken mess (you can check my impressions here) but I heard that the second set of trials are working silky smooth and are an upgrade from the first set of Trials. 

"NO MORE BUGS AND GLITCHES" they said!

Well...whoever "they" are, "they" must've played a completely different game. Because the second set of Mastery Challenges are even more broken than the first ones.

 

As usual, Eivor has to follow the indications of an old hag and do several sets of trials : Bear trials (combat), Wolf trials (pew pew with the bow) and Raven trials (sneaky Snake Eater in Viking era). Obviously you have to accomplish all targets in order to get the gold medals. If you played past AC games you might recognize these as "full 100% synchronization targets" - don't be spotted, shoot the weak points, headshot enemies, kill them via fire etc etc.

 

Well, normally these trials would be a 3/10, simple stuff, but they are so goddamn broken, they simply do not work! The very first trial "kill all enemies in under 2:30 minutes" took me 3-4 hours to make because Eivor could not stop getting stuck in the walls or enemies just fell through the map every single time.

 

Bottom line - if you never played AC Valhalla never start this game. The DLCs will drive you insane and make you wonder why you paid money in the first place.

 

I also started the Ragnarok DLC...first hour was mainly escort NPC followed by some lazy fights. Already promising...

This was such an awesome write up, it really was!  Because.... well, because you ALMOST, almost got me to reconsider actually playing this.... I'm still a little on the fence about it. I'm almost sure I'd probably like it from a gameplay perspective, I'm not even afraid of the challenge side of it.

 

BUT I hate where it fits into the Metal Gear series timeline, it completely undermines a really important plot detail from Metal Gear Solid 4, like offensively so. I just can't get my head around that aspect of it. I am fully aware that's a ME problem though. If this game was non-canon, which apparently it isn't, I think I'd genuinely be a little more on board for it. 

 

It certainly didn't stop me from enjoying the hell out of this write up though! I like the fact that Raiden was one of the things you found least interesting about the entire thing, it's good that they kept Raiden's blandness a consistent part of his character ?. With as much bombastic stuff going on as this game seems to have,I'm not surprised he gets overshadowed by almost everything else.

 

I love the soundtrack too by the way, I might not have played the game, but I have heard quite a substantial amount of the soundtrack. It looks like it meshes so well with that frantic gameplay too!

 

Anyway, it was an absolute treat to read, and if you suddenly see Metal Gear Solid Rising appear on my profile.... then you're almost certainly the reason why!

Thats why I can't recommend this game enough. It's not ONLY the gameplay (although it's a big part), it's also the characters. Holy shit you will love the characters, almost if not all of them overshadow Raiden.

Undoubtedly a 10/10. You know me and my soundtracks, this one is heavenly music, it just fits THIS well.

I really have to say that Metal Wolf Chaos is even more of a fever dream compared to MGR. I never thought it could be possible buy my god this game is a different type of crack.

I guess there isn't a definitive answer really.  Like I'm sure I read somewhere that everything that Kojima was directly involved in was canon and I believe he was quite involved for a while at least with Revengeance.  That sort of mindset wouldn't surprise me, as that man is an absolute raging egomaniac. So who knows haha

I'm up for the change of pace from less stealthy stuff, I'd be aware of it going into it.... It'd be nice to actually have SOME gameplay, as most of the recent MGS titles have been 75% Cutscenes, Audio Tapes, or Codec Calls, so to actually PLAY something might be a welcome change ?

Don't apologise for what you wrote about AC Valhalla! If it pissed you off, then it pissed you off, it does seem as if Valhalla is almost all of Ubisofts game design issues, but magnified by about 300, so if anything they should be the ones apologising here!

Same. I've heard different things about the canon status of MGR. Just googled again, and it's still not clear. I mainly see debates. Kojima would say something like "This game has a place on the Metal Gear timeline, but it's not part of the story told by me". Who knows what that really means.

Dude, maybe Metal Gear Rising is the proto-Strand type of game from Kojima, before Death Stranding you know! 

We would never be able to understand Kojimer's brilliant mind  From my side, slicing and dicing huge ass metal raptors as an emo ninja boi is all I need.

So there are a lot of Codec Calls in this game too, and they really are required for a very annoying trophy. The best part is that you can 100% skip them. Who cares about story give me more shit to slice!

Valhalla is truly the epitome of Ubisoft formula going mad stale, because all the issues are popping here. Ubisoft games are part of a dying "Open world empire"

Yep agreed. This is the best description of the game, it's basically Metal Gear Shrooms with robots.

Intermediate Vacation Log

- or a non-gaming gaming related experience-

 

So in this past week I've been on my first normal actual vacation since...the beginning of the pandemic (2019?2020? it's been so long...). Main target was hiking, visiting places, basically getting rid of that stupid work and city and (not stupid) console. 

 

Obviously, since it has been a "nature only" vacation, I couldn't help but visit a Romanian "Used Products" store that also had games, because how could I ever be consistent in my activities?  Since games = a great time for me, I had to buy something so I ended up with Tekken 6, a fighting game from a franchise still relatively unknown to me (played a few Tekken 3 matches and platinumed Tekken 7 which...is a joke of a platinum sorry game!). Mint condition and half the original price:

 

The CD was in perfect shape too, what I did not expect though...apparently the game is in French ? mind you, I know a bit of French from my grade/high school days, so this might be an extra challenge. I do kinda hope I can change the language to English however, else I will laugh my ass off if I see that "King" is actually "Le Roi" or something.

 

Anyway it's time to get another Tekken on my list. @Yuber6969 you're on, we gon' do Onlinery  

 

Unfortunately, I haven't found the second game that I was actually looking for. Instead I decided to allocate some of my monthly funds to purchasing Dead or Alive 5 digitally when I get home. It's a fighting game, it's rated 10/10 in terms of difficulty, it has a 0.51% completion rate, it has hot babes, yep gotta play it, it's unavoidable. All I hope is that the online servers are still up and won't give me "too" much trouble. Crossed fingers, I have to start that ASAP, the moment I return home (Sunday)

 

And finally....this one is for @DrBloodmoney. Apparently Romania did a time jump forward in terms of evolution. While I was browsing the most popular chain store of books, comics, manga and whatnot, I have found a compendium of comics that I would have never imagined it would hit this backwater ass of a country. Imagine my shock and delight when I found the entire Fables collection available to purchase in Romania...the actual physical thing...including the "ahh fresh paper" smell...

 

 

For those who don't know, "Fables" is the inspiration for that little TellTale games The Wolf Among Us and I can guarantee that the comics are a fantastic piece of work. I did spend 10 minutes reading the first compendium until the employees started to give me the nasty looks, so I had to curb my enthusiasm a bit and leave the store with a moderate degree of sadness.

Unfortunately, this little vacation kinda ran me dry so I had no money to purchase any of these beauties, but they have been added on my Wishlist so at the first sign of "extra income" or "oh shit I have money left at the end of the month" I will definitely purchase these.

 

That's it for now, this has been the Copanele Holiday Report. This should have been a status update, but it felt more of an "experience" so it fit better here.

Those compendium versions are gorgeous, aren’t they?

 

I have the older hardback volumes, but I bought my sister those compendium versions for Christmas one year, and they’re awesome - that volume 3 Totenkinder / Darkman cover is dope!
