Popular Post Sly Ripper Posted October 22, 2011 Popular Post Share Posted October 22, 2011 So some of you know that I was going to do site trophies as a proper trophy list. I got into trying to complete it but after working on it for a bit I'm starting to doubt if this is the right way to go. I initially thought it would be cool to have all of the features a normal trophy list has, plus no other site does it like this. Thing is, site trophies aren't the kind of trophies you need these features for, you can't really go and earn a site trophy since they mainly require time. So I thought of this other way of doing site trophies, naming them "Pins". Instead of "earning" pins, you "collect" them. They don't have names and descriptions, just a little line about what each pin is, such as "Earn 50 trophies in a week" or "Get 500 forum posts". They will be shown in the sidebar on a profile and they kind of build a character of what you've done over time. One of the flaws with a trophy list is that over time, it needs to be tweaked/changed, some of them have to be removed from people etc. With pins, because they have no value (bronze/silver) more and more can just be added without it becoming unbalanced. Not for those reasons, but because it felt like it was giving people a free game to platinum for members of the site. That was subsided a bit when I was told the trophies weren't going to be added to our numbers, but as cool as the idea is/was, it still left a bad taste. The big PSNProfiles.com game on the trophy profile kind of took away from the other games. That said the "pins" idea doesn't sound too unlike anything you'd find on other forums that offer some kind of site/forum achievements, but still cool nonetheless. Would they still link to things like '# of Trophy Tips posted' and the sort? Or would it be mainly forum achievements? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

With the other sites, there was always issues with them: the values, the requirements, all that. basic, valueless pins (or you can say "benchmarks" i guess) dont encourage any boosting, any lust for them really...if you want them, it entails participating in the site more.....nice idea Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

In all seriousness though (because that is what the internet is!), I like it, I think its an idea that will attract not only newcomers but those who may have not been as active yet. Nice idea Sly.
